Mattie C. Higgs, 73, of Blue Mountain, died Friday, March 29, 2002.
She was born April 21, 1928 in Danville to the late Tom and Lillie Horn Crawford. She was a retired cook for the Danville School District, a member of the First Baptist Church in Danville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Higggs.
She is survived by a son, Edward Higgs of Blue Mountain; a daughter, Jeanetta Ewing of Arkansas City, Kan.; a brother, Billy Crawford of Conway; a sister, Lillie Snow of Benton; and three grandsons.
Funeral services were Tuesday, April 2 at 2 p.m. at the Danville First Baptist Church with the Rev. Delton M. Beall officiating. Burial was at Earl Ladd cemetery in Danville under the direction of Cornwell Funeral Home of Danville.
Pallbearers were Michael Elliott, Eddie Short, Steven Cox, Rick Nordin, Bill Benson, and George Newman.
Honorary pallbearers were Roger Elliott, Ed Blalock, and Rusty Mosley.
Sister Elaine Walbe
Sister Elaine Walbe, 84, of Fort Smith, died Tuesday, March 26, 2002.
Vespers were Sunday, March 31 at 7:15 p.m. at St. Scholastica Monastery. Funeral Mass was Monday, April 1 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Scholastica Monastery.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews.

Lavawn Parsons
Lavawn Parsons, 90, of Paris, died Thursday, March 28, 2002.
He was a member of the Paris Christian Center and a homemaker.
Funeral service was at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 1 at Paris Christian Center with burial in the Caulksville cemetery in Caulksville under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
She is survived by her husband, Dan Parsons of Paris; two daughters, Judy Berry of Ozark, and Janetta Stanford of California; two sons, Leonard Rowe of Caulksville, and Richard Rowe of Paris; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and eight grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Roy Rowe, Richard McClain, Justin Rowe, Jeremy Rowe, Austin Weeks, Ray Cameron and Sam McElhany.
Sidney Crossland
Sidney Thomas Crossland, 69, of Booneville died Thursday, March 28, 2002.
He was a retired machine operator for the Container Corporation of America and a member of the Norwood Lakeview Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Shirley Crossland.
Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Monday, April 1 at Roberts Memorial Chapel in Booneville with burial in Oak Hill cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife Lucy Crossland of the home; two sons, Joseph Eivan Crossland of Muskogee, Okla., and Thomas Eugene Crossland of Tennessee; four daughters, Kathy Paris of Muskogee, Okla. Cydney O Dell of Muskogee, Okla., Debbie Hamman of Greenwood, Ind., and Nona Bryant of Bucksnort, Tenn.; one brother, Bill Crossland of Georgia; one sister, Mary Woodruff of Muskogee, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Daniel Parris, Jeremy Parris, Michael Parris, Pat Harman, Charlie Horton and Frank Terry.
Cecil McBride
Cecil Elmo McBride, 89, of Booneville, died Thursday, March 28, 2002.
He was retired from Bob Miller Drilling Company in Fort Smith. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a lifetime member of of the DAV, member of the National Masonic Lodge 411 in Ratcliff, member of the First Baptist Church in Branch and past patron of the Eastern Star in Paris 411. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry Boyd McBride and Sarah Elizabeth McBride.
Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Monday, April 1 at Branch First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Don Elmore and the Rev. Tim Hobbs officiating. Burial was at US National cemetery in Fort Smith with Masonic Rites under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine (Jerry) of the home; one daughter, Sandra Whittington of Charleston; one son, Joe McBride of Little Rock; two sisters, Hartance Suits of Levelland, Tex., and Gene McGee of Grand Junction, Colo.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Pallbearers were Orin Adams, Bennie Rausch, Reed Haynes, Ronnie Merritt, Lewis Earl Bennett and Sonny Cole.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Masonic Lodge.

Bill Gann
Bill G. Gann, 67, of Lavaca, died Monday, March 11, 2002.
He was born July 31, 1934 in Lavaca to Charles R. Gann and Letha B. Masterson Gann. He was a retired hydraulic specialist for OG&E and a member of the Lavaca United Methodist Church.
Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 13 at Smith Mortuary Chapel officiated by Rev. Vern Wilson with burial at Garden of Memories in Charleston under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
He is survived by his wife S. Gail Gann; two daughers, Myra Keith of Charleston, and Marla Granger of Lavaca; two sisters, Rachel McMaster of Lavaca and Gelene Ray of Lavaca; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Joshua and Jake McRorey, Derek Keith, Michael Murray, Chris Moore, Andre Sanders, James Maddux, Mitch Lee, Cliff Burnett and Charles Granger.
William "Bill" Jones
William "Bill" Donald Jones, 65, of Ozark, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002.
He was a lineworker for Cloyes Gear Company in Subiaco. He was a Air Force veteran; member of American Legion; and a Baptist. He was preceded in death by half sisters, Eulk Sumner, Jocie Lovett Nason and Dovie Young.
Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Friday, March 15 at Mt. Zion Regular Baptist Church with burial at Piney cemetery north of Mulberry under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
He is survived by one sister, Avanelle Carter of Brookhaven, Miss.; two brothers, Carl Jones of Ozark, and Jimmy Jones of Overland Park, Kan.

Mark Martin Vogelpohl, 55, of Paris, died Monday, March 11, 2002.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus, a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, a former president of the Cathedral Club of St. Louis, Mo.; a Vietnam veteran, a graduate of Subiaco Academy and the owner of Mark's Tractor.
Rosary service was at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 13 at St. Benedict Church in Subiaco.
Funeral mass was at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 14 at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Subiaco with burial in St. Benedict cemetery in Subiaco under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
He is survived by one sister, Anette Knittig of Van Buren; three brothers, John Vogelpohl of Little Rock, Sid Vogelpohl of Brandon, Miss., and Lambert Vogelpohl of London.
Pallbearers were Jerry Klaeger, Robert Valentine, Tony Eckart, Raymond Eckart, Jarrad Ward, Gordon (Butch) Baker, Eugene Jasper and W. J. (Slick) Willmann.
Ethan Cleveland
Ethan Allen Cleveland, 86, of Magazine, died Wednesday, March 13, 2002.
He was a member of the Old Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church, an Army Veteran of World War II, a Royal Arch Mason and a member of the Blocher Lodge of Booneville.
Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Friday, March 15 at Old Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Magazine with burial in Ellington cemetery in Magazine under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
He is survived by his wife, Vestal Cleveland of the home; two sons, Representative Herschel Cleveland of Paris, and Dr. Elton Cleveland of Little Rock; two sisters, Flossie Garner of Magazine and Marie Barnes of Magazine; one brother, Emmett Cleveland of Murfeesboro, Tenn.; grandchildren, Jared, Justin, Jodiane and Jadyn Cleveland; and great-grandchildren, Crason and Callen Cleveland.

Dewey Beck
Dewey Beck of Cushing, Okla. died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002 where he had resided for the last several years.
He was the son of the late Vernon Beck and Thelma Biggs Beck. He was born April 22, 1922 in Logan County and grew up in the Paris area.
Services were held for him on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 11 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home in Cushing. He was brought to Paris, Thursday, Feb. 7. Another service was held for him at the Paint Rock Church at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7. Services were conducted by Darien Downs, Church of Christ Minister. Burial followed in Paint Rock Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife Joy and one son Robert of Cushing, a sister Winona Roberts of Magazine, two aunts Laverne Gilbert of Torrance, Calif. and Preshie Beck of Ventura, Calif. and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
