Jim Chancellor, 67, of Charleston died Friday, July 9, 2004, in Fort Smith. He was born Feb. 9, 1937 in Kiowa County, Okla. to Edwin Earl and Mayme Hoover Chancellor. He was a retired tool and dye maker for Whirlpool in Fort Smith and a member of the Lavaca First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bettie Goodwin Chancellor.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, July 12, 2004 at Smith Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Bob Gilstrap officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Hope Cemetery, north of Vesta under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
He is survived by two daughters, Coeta Dooly of Lavaca and Charla Chancellor of Fort Smith; two sons, Roy Chancellor of Conway and Robert Chancellor of Charleston; one sister, Betty Lou Wright of Inyokern, Calif.; two brothers, Billy Ray Chancellor of North Edward, Calif. and Jerry Chancellor of Ardmore, Okla.; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Leo Robertson, Rick Posey, Steve Hamilton, Troy May, Jim Shaver, Oscar Burton and Jim Gattis.
Michael Gunn
Michael G. Gunn, 61, of Clarksville died Friday, July 9, 2004 at Johnson County Regional Medical Center. He was born in Chicago, Ill. on June 14, 1943 to the late Gene and Margaret (Pardon) Gunn. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Judith (Bruegman) Gunn and his eldest brother, Tyrone Gunn.
He was a retired high school principal. He graduated from Hayti High School in 1962, the College of the Ozarks in 1968 and received his specialist degree from the University of Arkansas in 1981.
Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Monday, July 12, 2004 at Raymond Munger Memorial Chapel on the campus of the University of the Ozarks, Clarksville and burial was in Woodland Cemetery, Clarksville, under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
He is survived by his mother, Margaret (Pardon) Gunn of Hayti, Mo.; two daughters, Jennifer and spouse, Tim Bellamy of Paris; Cyndy Gunn of Washington; son, Mark and spouse, Sarah Gunn of El Paso, Tex.; two sisters, Sharon Snow and Betty Hampton of French Village, Mo.; and brother, Bobby Gunn of Clarksville; four grandchildren, Sydney and Maitlyn Bellamy, Preston and Dawson Gunn.
Pallbearers were Sid Kern, Leon Kern, Jerry Curtis, John Burke, Mike Kinder, and Ashley Whitman.
Carrie Smith
Carrie June Smith, 89, of Ozark, died Thursday, July 29, 2004.
She was born June 13, 1915 in Cecil to the late Aubrey Taylor and Minnie (McGee) Taylor. She was a homemaker; retired assistant manager for Hunts Department Store; founding family and life long resident of Franklin County; member of First United Methodist Church in Ozark; and member of Esther Circle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Smith; son, Leonard Dale Smith; daughter, Marilyn Smith; daughter-in-law, Judy Coffee; and son-in-law, Travis Nixon.
Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 31 at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Bill VanMeter and Todd Roland officiating. Burial was at Cecil cemetery under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel of Ozark.
She is survived by two daughters, Hope Nixon of Paris; and Patti Wisdom of Fort Smith; one sister, Grace Taylor Barlow of Fort Smith; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Waymon Barton, Stanson Davis, Hershel Sloan, Bill Fant, Harold Fay Jones, Marvin Maurus, and Don Sosebee.
Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren.

Virvle Johnson
Virvle Deane Johnson, 77, of Scranton, died Friday, July 30, 2004.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Newell and Magie (Denton) Johnson and a brother, Bernell Johnson.
Funeral service was at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 3 at Johnson Freewill Baptist Church in Scranton with burial in Wares Chapel cemetery in Scranton under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
She is survived by one brother, Raymond Harold Johnson of Dublin.

A. J. Jones
A. J. Jones, 73, of Subiaco, died Friday, July 30, 2004 in Fort Smith.
He was a technician for Rockwell International and a retired inspector for Cloyes Gear Company. He was a member of the Olivette First Baptist Church, Sand Springs, Okla. He attended First Assembly of God Church in Paris and was preceded in death by his father, Jim Jones, a son, Jay Phillip Jones and a brother, James Edward Jones.
Funeral service was at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3 at First Assembly of God Church in Paris with burial in Oakwood Cemtery in Paris under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jones of the home; two daughters, Karen Butler of Springdale anld Shirley Meadows of Sand Springs, Okla.; mother, Ruby Jones of Paris; one sister, Elsie Highfield of Paris; one brother, Jim Jones, Jr. of Subiaco; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Charlotte Michaud
Charlotte Sue Michaud, 59, died Friday, July 30, 2004 in Fort Smith.
She had a degree in business, was a job placement officer and CAI lab instructor. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paris and was preceded in death by her parents Adam David and Geneva (Messek) Yother and her husband Maurice "Moe" Michaud.
Funeral mass is at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Paris with burial in St. Joseph's cemetery in Paris under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
She is survived by one daughter, Jacqueline Joanne Athey of Paris; two sons, Thomas Levite Michaud of Ratcliff and Joseph Maurice Michaud of Penasco, N. M.; four brothers, Adam David Yother, Jr. of Rock Fall, Conn., John Yother of Plantsville, Conn., James Yother of North Haven, Conn., and Gilbert Yother of Wallingford, Conn.; six sisters, Bertha Wineberg, Bernadine Reed, Doris Mitchell, all of Paris, Alice Ming and Linda Pader of Meridan, Conn., and Albina Bertrand of Chaplin, Conn.; and four grandchildren.

Jerry Varnell
Jerry L. Varnell, 54, of Paris, died Saturday, July 31, 2004 in Clarksville.
He was born June 22, 1950 in Midway. He was a car salesman and was preceded in death by his parents, Nettie and Lee Varnell. He was of the Assembly of God faith.
Funeral service was at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3 at Midway Assembly of God Church with burial at Hickory Groves cemetery in Midway under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Lavaca.
He is survived by one son, Jerald Varnell of Charleston; step-father, William Wimberly of Paris; and four brothers, Curtis, Darrell, Larry and Danny Varnell all of Subiaco.

Ross Lee
Ross William Lee, 23, of Paris, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004 in Saline County, Mo.
He was born Aug. 24, 1981 in Fort Smith. He was a truck driver for Werner Enterprises and was a member of the Restoration Worship Center in Booneville.
Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27 at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Paris, officiated by the Revs. J. H. Carter and Garth Cray. Burial was at Oakwood cemetery in Paris under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home of Paris.
He is survived by his father, Doyle Lee of Paris; mother, Wanda Reed of Scranton; paternal grandparents, Jack and Edna Lee of Paris; maternal grandmother, Ora Mae Trusty of Paris; two brothers, Shayne Lee of Caulksville and Garland Cotton, III of Scranton.

John Dendy
John Ray Dendy, 92, of Paris, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004.
He was a sheet metal worker and worked for the Civil Service and was a World War II veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Ray and Myrtle I. "Weems" Dendy.
Graveside and burial service was at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4 at McVay cemetery in Paris under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
He is survived by his wife, Gail Dendy of Paris; one daughter, Linda Owens of Iowa; two step-daughters, Nancy Lucas of Paris and Catherine Harger of Clarksville; one son, Kenneth Dendy of California; two brothers, Herbert Dendy of Antioch, Calif., and Sammy Dendy of California; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Gladys Wald
Gladys A. Wald, 84, of Paris, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004 in Charleston.
She was born June 13, 1920 in Ratcliff, to the late Joe and Rebecca "Stubblefield" Mahl. She was a homemaker and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paris. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Alice Jean "Jeanne" Wald and Betty Schricker; brothers, Raphael, Andrew and Richard Mahl; sister, Beatrice Warnke.
Rosary was at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paris.
Mass was at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 27 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paris with burial in St. Joseph cemetery under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
She is survived by her husband, Clem Wald of Paris; two daughters, Debbie Cline of Central City; and Karen Sutton of Benton; sister, Josephine Schmalz of Charleston; and eight grandchildren.
