William Calvin Bentley
6/29/1949 - 7/20/2004

Officer William Calvin Bentley, who recently retired from the Little Rock Police Department, died Tuesday night at the age of 55 of cancer. Bill, as he was better known, was also an Air Force veteran, having served as a loadmaster on C-130 s in 1968-1970 during the Vietnam War. He faced his illness with courage and strength and underwent a liver transplant in 1995. Not to be deterred, he returned to work in three months as a patrolman, a job he dearly loved. His captain put him behind a desk but Bill didn t rest until he convinced his superiors to let him return to patrol, a job he proudly held almost to the time of his retirement.

Bill is survived by his wife, Maryann; his son, William Christopher and his wife Rachael, and their two children, Autumn and William Caleb; his daughter, Melissa Anne; his parents, Wilbur C. Dub Bentley and Flora A. Bentley; his sisters, Margaret Kathleen and her husband Mike Simpson, Janis Lynn Bentley and Beth Ann Whitten, all of Little Rock. Bill also has numerous cousins.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 A. M. Saturday, July 24, 2004 at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home Chapel (224-8300) with Reverend David Ard officiating. Interment will be in Pinecrest Memorial Park. The Little Rock Police Department will provide funeral honors. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P. M. Friday at the funeral home.

Winston G. Chandler
10/19/1919 - 7/20/2004

Winston Griggs Chandler, Sr., age 84, of Little Rock, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2004. He was born October 9, 1919, to Lester and Mattie Chandler of Walnut Grove, Arkansas in Van Buren County. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ouida (Hunnicutt) Chandler; three sons, Winston Chandler, Jr. and wife Sharon, Mike Chandler and wife, Linda, Jeff Chandler and wife, Nancy, ten Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren; and a sister, Opal Kidd Koone. Winston was preceeded in death by a brother, Wendell Chandler. Winston attended the University of the Ozarks, University of Arkansas, and Arkansas Law School, graduating with LLB and JD degrees. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force, four years active duty during World War II. He was a bomber pilot and retired a Major. Following his stint in the service, he and Ouida returned to Clinton and opened Chandler 5 & 10 Cent Store. After a few years, they sold out and he attended law school. They settled in Little Rock, where he owned and operated Chandler Trailer Convoy, a nationwide transportation company, from 1953 until 1986. His community service included stints on the Pulaski County School Board for eleven years, member of the President s Development Council of Harding University, member of the Arkansas History Commission, Lions Club, and Sons of the American Revolution. He was a member of the National Democratic Finance Council in the mid-70s, and was Chairman of the South East Section in 1976. In 1962, Winston mounted a campaign for the United States Senate, opposing Senator J. William Fulbright. One of his campaign speeches was noted for being the first political oratory to be broadcast via satellite to other parts of the globe. In 1966, he entered the Democratic Primary for Governor of the state of Arkansas. Winston remained active as an advisor and consultant on both the local, state and national scene until his passing. Winston was a member of the church of Christ for 36 years, serving as an elder, deacon and worship leader. In recent years, he attended and was a vital member of the non-denominational Little Rock church. Music was always a big part of his life. He taught rural singing schools all over Arkansas and Missouri, was a member of the McDonald Stamps-Baxter radio quartet, and performed coat-to-coast on radio s Gene Autry Melody Ranch program in April of 1943. Graveside services will be 11 AM on Thursday, July 22, 2004, at Walnut Grove Cemetary near Clinton, Arkansas. A celebration of a life well-lived will be 11 AM on Friday, July 23rd, at Little Rock church, 10701 West Baseline, Little Rock. (501-455-0900). Lloyd Ellis Williams
5/8/1918 - 7/20/2004

Lloyd Ellis Williams, 86, lifelong resident of Independence County died Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
Born May 8, 1918 in Newark, Arkansas and he was the eldest of six children born to Herbert Victor and Lilly Austin Williams.
He was a veteran of World War II serving as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army National Guard in Alaska.
He was a retired U. S. Postal Service worker of thirty-five years.
He was a lifelong member of the Central Avenue United Methodist Church, a member of the Batesville Lions Club, American Legion Post 114, an institutional representative for the Boy Scouts of America, an administrative board member for the Central Avenue United Methodist Church, past member of the Batesville Water Commission; and a member of Central Avenue United Methodist Men s Club. He was also known by his friends and family for Uncle Lloyd s barbeque chicken. He was instrumental in the founding of the Batesville White River Water Carnival.
He is survived by his wife, Celia Bell Williams of the home; two sons, Mark (Janis) Williams of Batesville and Grant (Marietta) Williams of Harrison. He is also survived by one brother, Herbert A. Williams of Little Rock; three sisters, Leah Weatherford of Memphis, Ruth Hutcherson of Alexandria, Virginia, and Dorothy Cook of Jonesboro; four grandchildren, Andrew and April Williams of Batesville, Austin Williams and Adriane Williams Hubbard of Harrison as well as several nieces and nephews.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Roscoe C. Williams.
Pallbearers will be James Street, Bill Jenkerson, Donald Hedden, Jim Barnett, Bud Kerr and Shelby Baxter.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lyndell Norton, Owen Shaw, James Rutherford, Jr. and Members of the Omega Sunday School Class of Central Avenue United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Central Avenue United Methodist Church in Batesville with Reverend Marcia Dodd officiating assisted by Reverend Joe Linam.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday.
Burial will be in Oaklawn cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville. (870) 793-4161

Romie Wayne Roberts
February 16, 1920 - October 23, 2007

Romie Wayne Roberts, 87, of Bee Branch died Tuesday, October 23, 2007.
He was born February 16, 1920 in Bee Branch to the late Thomas Ira Roberts and Amelia Bell Clenendin Roberts.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Teresa Stevenson.
He was a member of the Church of Christ,
Survivors are his son, Tommy Wayne Roberts of Bee Branch; half sister, Hazel Payne of Damascus; 1 granddaughter, Becky Graham; 5 great-grandchildren, Arron Stevenson, Jonathan Stevenson, Samantha Stevenson, Michael Langford, Michael Langford, Dustin Stevenson; 1 great great grandchild, Ethan Stevenson.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Thursday at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home, Greenbrier (501) 679-2575 with Fred Shoemaker officiating. Burial will follow in Old Whipple Cemetery,
Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Jonathan Stevenson, Michael Lankford, Arron Stevenson, Dustin Stevenson, Carl Chapman, Doye Wharton, and Garrett Johnson.

Chester A. Wolfe, Jr.
October 7, 1927 - October 23, 2007

Chester A. Wolfe, Jr., 80, of Conway, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2007.
He was born October 7, 1927 in Springfield, MO, to the late Chester A. Wolfe, Sr., and Rebecca Benton.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Wolfe.
He was a member of Calvary Church in Conway and a retired Navy veteran of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Mary Wolfe of Conway; son, Richard Wolfe of Henderson, NV; grandchildren, Clayton Wolfe, Jordan Wolfe, Katie Wolfe, Rachel Morgan, Autumn Wilhoyt; great-grandson, Issac Morgan; step sons, David Richard of Conway, Paul Richard of Greenbrier; step daughter, Kim Richard of Maumelle; step grandchildren, Zachary Richard, Summer Richard, Zane Richard all of Greenbrier, Dillon Richard, Jordan Richard of Conway.
Graveside services with full military honors will be 10:00 AM Thursday at McGinity Cemetery, Dr. Lynn Mayall officiating.
Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home, Greenbrier, (501) 679-2575.

Ida Alma Hopkins
October 4, 1927 - October 23, 2007

Ida Alma Hopkins, 80, of Forrest City passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2007 in Jonesboro. Mrs. Hopkins was born October 4, 1927 in Helena to the late Shepard Bowman and the late Rossi Warren Bowman.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Cheryl New and husband, Chris, of Colt, Tommy Raines and wife, Angela, of Wynne, Garry Graham, Jr. and wife, Lisa, of Wynne, Bippy Eaton of Cherry Valley, Courtney Stevens of Seacy, Mark Hopkins of West Helena and Milton Hopkins and wife, Rena, of Monnette; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by both parents; her husband, Tommy Hopkins; children, Sandra Stevens, Marie Raines, Bonnie Graham and Wanda Garrison.
Services for Mrs. Hopkins will be Friday, October 26, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Roller-Citizens. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6-9 p.m. at Roller-Citizens. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park in West Helena.
Pallbearers are Garry Graham, Jr., Tommy Raines, Mark Hopkins, Chris New, Garry Graham, Sr., and Bobby New.

Jerry Lee Franks
October 11, 1948 - October 23, 2007

Jerry Lee Franks, 59, of West Memphis, AR passed away at his residence Tuesday, October 23rd. Mr. Franks was born in Blytheville, AR to Comer Hill Franks and the late Eunice (Key) Franks.
He was a member of St Paul Lutheran Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Jean Franks and survived by two sons, Jason Franks of Marion, AR and Jeremy Bunce of Indianapolis, IN; father, Comer Hill Franks of Blytheville, AR and four grandchildren.

Myrtle May Schultz
November 29, 1929 - October 23, 2007

Myrtle May Schultz, 77, of Jonesboro died Tuesday, October 23, at Skilcare Nursing Center. Born in Jonesboro, she was retired from Frolic Footwear and was a homemaker.
She is survived by a son, Kenneth Matthews of Bono; and a grandson, Kenneth Matthews, Jr. of Jonesboro.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Schultz; her parents Kenneth and Mary Williams Shook; and a sister, Mary Serpico.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Friday at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.
No visitation has been scheduled.
