Glenda Fern Austin, 61, of Searcy died November 12, 1999. Born February 6, 1938, in Nashville, Kansas, she was the daughter of Alfred and Edna Dicke Opitz. A graduate of Garden City Kansas High School and Fort Hays State College in Kansas, she taught high school in Kansas, was a bookkeeper and a member of Shepherd Lutheran Church, Women of the Moose Lodge and River Oaks Golf Course.
Survivors include her mother, Edna Dicke Opitz of Mountain Home; her husband, John Austin, of whom she married
June 2, 1963; and two sisters, Carol Malcolm of Ness City, Kansas, and Phyllis Goss of Mountain Home.
She was preceded in death by her father, Alfred Opitz.
Services will be this morning at 10 at Searcy Funeral Home Chapel with entombment at Kirby cemetery and Mausoleum in Mountain Home at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Searcy. Arrangements are by Searcy Funeral Home.
Carol Lyn Guest Thompson
Carol Lyn Guest Thompson, 40, of Searcy was born November 16, 1961 in Searcy to Elijah and Marcia Guest and departed this life February 7, 2002. She was a member of Arnold Tabernacle CME Church. She worked at Land O'Frost in Searcy.
She was preceded in death by her father, Elijah Guest, her mother, Marcia Guest, and two sisters, Denise Lynette Cooperwood and Patty Guest.
Survivors include three sons; Anthony (Elidia), Christopher (Jamie) and Benjamin Thompson and one grandson, Anthony Lee Royce Thompson, all of Searcy. She is also survived by seven brothers, Elijah Guest of Corpus Christi, Texas; Robert, Steve and Bobby Guest, all of Atlanta, Georgia; Terri and Paul Lewis of Augusta; and Elbert Lewis of North Little Rock; nine sisters: Charlotte Holliman of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Patsy Washington of Toledo, Ohio; Inez Culver of Atlanta, Georgia; Francine Hannah and Inette Chatman, both of Little Rock; Ella Watson, Carolyn Baker and Barbara Hadley, all of Kensett; and Gloria Woods of Augusta: two uncles, Steve Woods of Augusta; and Jim Woods of Sherrill; one aunt, Inez Richardson of Kansas City, Missouri; 49 nieces and nephews and 33 great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 15, 2002 at 1 p.m. in the Arnold Tabernacle Church in Kensett. Burial will be in White County Memorial Gardens in Searcy. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Searcy. A fund will be set up at First Security Bank to benefit the surviving children. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to this fund. Arrangements are by Powell Funeral Home of Searcy.
Faye B. Benson
Faye B. Bemson, 87, of Vilonia, died Thursday, April 18, 2002. She was born January 14, 1915, at Marmaduke to Dolin Jay Brewer and Molissie Caroline Bradsher Brewer. As resident of Searcy for 40 years, she was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Searcy.
She is survived by two daughters, Carol Keller of Vilonia and Robbie Bray of Jackson, Missouri; one son, Benny Keith Benson of Mountain Home; three sisters, Lurlene Henry of Judsonia, Imogene Finch of Searcy, and Geneva Brewer of Searcy; eight grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Henry James Benson; four sisters, Vivian Brewer, Morene Coppick, Trellis Harris, and Erma Bosson; and two brothers, Oren Brewer and James Brewer.
Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Roller-Daniel Funeral Home of Searcy, which is in charge of arrangements.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2002, at Roller-Daniel Chapel with burial in White County Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Nancy Catherine Fielder
Nancy Catherine Plant Baldridge Fielder, 87, died Friday, November 16, 2001. Born July 24, 1914, in Rose Bud to Charles and Sallie Plant, she was co-owner and worked for many years at the Baldridge General Store. She was a member of Rose Bud Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter; Patricia Stark of Rose Bud; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Horace Baldridge and Howell Fielder; an infant son, Wiley Baldridge; one daughter, Carolyn Gail Baldridge; five sisters, Lola Cook, Bessie Wilkinson, Myrtle Mae Foreman, Lottie Rodgers, and Floy Arnold; and two brothers, Dewey Plant and Henry Plant.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, November 19, at Rose Bud Methodist Church, with burial at Rose Bud Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. today, November 18, at Powell Funeral Home in Searcy.
Mary Clyde Baldridge
Mary Clyde Baldridge, 95, of Beebe, formerly of Winston, California, died Thursday, April 12, 2001.
She is survived by a daughter, Dee DuBusk of Cabot; and a son, Daniel O. Baldridge of Florence, Oregon.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at Winston cemetery in Winston, California. Local arrangements have been made by Westbrook Funeral Home in Beebe.
William Carl Johnson
William Carl Johnson, 87, of Kansas City, Missouri, died Wednesday, February 14, 2001. He was born October 4, 1913, in Arkansas, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Johnson. He was a retired farmer and of the Baptist belief.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alta Mallonee Johnson. Survivors include a son, Carl Wayne Johnson of Kansas City, Missouri; a daughter, Joyce Smith of Tennessee; and several grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Olmstead Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Olmstead Chapel. Internment will follow in the Sidon Cemetery. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Incorporated.
Lela McCollum
Lela McCollum, 82, of Searcy, died Wednesday, December 6, 2000. She was born July 26, 1918, in Romance, to John and Mittie Jane Moore Stracener. McCollum was a member of Westside Church of Christ. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Lavelle Davis of Floyd, and Ava Jones of Bald Knob; one brother, Reid Stracener; two sisters, Lois Hilton, and Lola Sidle; four grandsons; three great-granddaughters; and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin McCollum, six brothers, and two sisters.

John B. Miller
John B. Miller, a long-time resident of Searcy, died Friday, September 8, 2000. Born February 24, 1921, in Uniondale, Indiana, he was the son of John and Mary Etta Ditzler Miller. He was a long-time businessman in Searcy, and owned and operated the Miller Milling Company. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Searcy and a veteran of World War II. He was a Turret gunner on a bomber that was shot down over eastern Europe.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Doris Miller; and sisters, Margaret Cupp and Marceille Shutt of Bluffton, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Lela Haflich, Naomi Boulware, Mary Lou Thomas and Mabeline Keplinger.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Powell Chapel in Searcy with burial in Fairview cemetery in Bluffton, Indiana, by Powell Funeral Home of Searcy. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Searcy or CARTI.
Larry Lanny Smith
Funeral services for Larry Lanny Smith of Garner were held August 22, 2000, at Garner Baptist Church with Brother Bill Pennington, Brother Bob Arthur and Brother Jerry Langley officiating. Songs were "When Dust Shall Sing" by Marvell Gowen and "I Will Meet You in the Morning" and "When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder" by the congregation. Linda Smith was pianist.
Pallbearers were Dale Smith, Mike Smith, Huey Spence, Jason Smith, Glen Judkins and Jerrell Boyd. Burial was in Cheek cemetery by Searcy Funeral Home.
Ida Faye Horton
Ida Faye Horton, 80, of Searcy died September 9, 1999. Born December 28, 1918, in Georgetown, she was the daughter of Thomas Franklin Acree and Mattie Viola Wright. She was a service girl with the International Shoe Factory and member of Bethel Assembly.
Survivors include a son, Bobby Martindale of Kensett; four sisters, Pearlie Good and Rosa Lee Andrews of Kensett, Lenora Johnson of Conway and Rozella Tucciarone of Fair Port, New York; a brother, Thomas Acree of Kingman, Arizona; a grandson, Lynnie Cockrum of Searcy; and two granddaughters, Eugenia Kujath of Minnesota and Tina Jackson of Bald Knob.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Ann Snook; and brothers, Wesley Acree and Lorne Acree.
Funeral services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Roller-Daniel Chapel with burial in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens by Roller-Daniel Funeral Home. Visitation began at 6 on Friday.
Carl Huston Hawkins
Carl Huston Hawkins, 73, of Quitman died February 23, 2000. Born October 13, 1926, in Alicia, he was the son of W.H. (Bill) and Lissa West Hawkins. He was a retired plumber and farmer, a Baptist and a disabled American Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Alma Beatrice Tate Hawkins; sons, Garry Don Hawkins of Mineral Wells, Texas, and Larry Glenn Hawkins of Quitman; a daughter, Paula Sue Hawkins Dowell of Batesville; two sisters, Mardell Hutcheson of Bald Knob and Helen Steinke of Mountain Home; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Bob, Charles A. and Johnny Hawkins.
Graveside services will be this afternoon at 2 p.m. at Center Point cemetery at Quitman by Roller-Daniel Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Quitman Baptist Church.
Ethel I. Allen
Ethel I. Allen, 72, of Leesburg, Florida, former resident of Searcy, died October 2, 2000. She was born in San Bernardino, California, and moved to central Florida in 1997. She was a member of United Morrison Church and a homemaker. She was also a past member of the White County Medical Center Auxiliary and Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Allen, and one daughter, Barbara Montgomery.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Robert and Sara Montgomery of Searcy, and a niece, Susan Zell of Hopewell, Virginia.
The family will have a memorial service honoring her Saturday, October 7, 2000 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in the Pyeatt Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, Allen has requested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
Roscoe H. Crafton
Roscoe H. Crafton, 79, of Searcy, died Sunday, June 24, 2001. He was born October 1, 1921, in Sidney to Curdy and Nora Mae Shaw Crafton. He was a member of Valley Baptist Church, a 32nd degree Mason, and a veteran in the Air Force in World War II. He owned and operated a service station in Searcy.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene Crafton; one stepdaughter, Pat McClain of North Little Rock; one sister, Mrs. Jess Roten of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dean Crafton and C.L. Crafton; and one sister, Nora Redwine.
Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Valley Baptist Church, with burial at White County Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are under the direction of Searcy Funeral Home.
Myron Stroud
The funeral services for Myron Stroud of Beebe were conducted at Westbrook Chapel at 2 p.m. on December 21, 2001 with Richard Pectol officiating. The special song selections were "The Old Rugged Cross", "In The Garden", and "Amazing Grace".
The pallbearers were Keith Barnett, Danny Barnett, David Barnett, Johnny Stroud, Robbie Stroud, Harry Belew and Joe I. Belew.
Burial was in Pleasant Grove cemetery in Floyd by W.L. Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe.
