Adgrain Bell

Adgrain Ray Bell, 53, of Little Rock, AR received his wings on September 21, 2007.

Survivors include: his wife, Lucille Bell; son, Marcus L. Bell; daughter, Lucinda D. Hyman and many other loving relatives and friends.

Home going service will be Saturday, September 29, 2007, 12:00 noon, at Greater South Temple COGIC, 2623 South Arch Street Little Rock , AR.

Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, Alexander, AR.

Family visitation will be Friday, September 28, 2007, 7:30-8:30 PM, at Ruffin & Jarrett Funeral Home, 1200 Chester St. LR (501) 372.1305.

Alice Stewart

Alice Ann (Watson) Stewart of Little Rock and formerly of Cabot, slept away on Saturday, October 13, 2007.

Her parents, Charlie Watson of Old Austin, AR and Victoria Poole Watson of Hickory Plains, AR: husband Willie Snook Stewart, seven brothers, five sisters and a great-granddaughter preceded her in death.

Alice is survived by a son; Willie Bogard Stewart, three daughters; Mary Evelyn Patillo Crutchfield, Vickie Lynn and Lisa Alberta Stewart, all of Little Rock; one sister, Iola Smith of North Little Rock; one brother, Charles Watson (Mary) of West Des Moines, Iowa; two brother-in-laws; Jerry McAway and Ray Haney (Inez), both of North Little Rock, eight grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Family Hour: Friday, October 19, 2007, 6-7 pm, Ruffin & Jarrett Funeral Home, 1200 Chester Street, Little Rock, Arkansas (501) 372.1305.

Funeral Services: Saturday, October 20, 2007, 1 pm, Covenant of Zion Cathedral Church 3023 West 12th Street, Little Rock, Arkansas.

Internment: Haven Of Rest Cemetery, Little Rock, Arkansas.

Minnie Reed

Minnie E. Reed, 79, ofNorth Little Rock, took her heavenly flight on October 9, 2007.

She leaves to cherish her memories: one son, Maurice Reed; six grandchildren, Carmen Reed, Tenecia Reed, Maurice Reed Jr., Teonga Reed, Ebony Flowers and Joshua Pike along with a host of other loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Family hour: Friday, Oct. 12th, 6-7 at Ruffin and Jarrett Funeral Home, 1200 S. Chester St. Little Rock, AR (501) 372.1305.

Funeral Service: Saturday October 13, 2007 12: 00 pm at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 1017 Ray Road Jacksonville, Ark.

Interment will follow at Arkansas Memorial Gardens, North Little Rock, AR.

Curtis Sykes

Curtis Henry Sykes was born December 21, 1930 to Arlene Sykes and Clarence Jerrod in North Little Rock, Arkansas. He attended North Little Rock public schools, graduating from Scipio A. Jones High School in 1947. He received a Bachelor of Science from Bishop College; a Master of Arts in Education from Texas College; and a Master of Sciences in Education from Harding University, of which, he was the First African-American student to graduate.

Early in his youth, Curtis became a member of King Solomon Baptist Church , in North Little Rock , of which he has for over 50 years served as a Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, a member of the Board of Trustees, and a member of the Brotherhood.

On November 27, 1955, he was united in marriage to Delois Mitchell of Camden, Arkansas. To this union were born three daughters, Adrienne, Belinda and Curlethia.

Curtis served as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War, and after receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to his roots and began a career in the Arkansas School System. In 1985, Curtis retired after serving 34 years in education as a teacher, football coach, assistant principal, and principal. Curtis Sykes has always been active in his community and has served on numerous boards and commissions, some of which include: the Dark Hollow CDC, the Sherman Park Community Center, Past Vice-chairman of the Young Branch of YMCA, Cope of Central Arkansas, Chairman of the North Little Rock History Commission, Founder and Chairman of the Arkansas Black History Advisory Committee (now known as The Black History Commission of Arkansas) the NAACP, Urban League, the Argenta CDC; the S.A. Jones Alumni Association, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission, Prince Hall Masons, Pi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.,(Life Member), the Afro-American Historical & Genealogical Society and PAAC Preservation of African American Cemeteries, Arkansas Baptist College Alumni Association, Phi Delta Kappa, Pan Hellenic Council, National Education Association, and he chaired the Community Housing Resource Board (CHRB) for many years.

On Sunday, September 9, 2007, 11:13 am, at Baptist Hospital in North Little Rock, the Lord called upon him to receive his crown in glory. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, John & Ella Sykes; parents Arlene Sykes and Clarence Jerrod; one son, Michael Hester, Sr.; two grandsons; Jerome Hester and Logan Swanigan.

He leaves to honor and cherish his memory his beloved wife of 52 years, Delois Sykes, daughters, Rosalyn Sykes, of Grandview, Missouri; Adrienne Thrasher (Howard), of Round Rock, Texas; Belinda (William) Burney, of Richardson, Texas; and Curlethia (William) Swanigan, of North Little Rock; 7 Grandchildren, Kimberly Hester, Michael Hester, Jr., Karen Hester, Shawntrice White, Curtis White, Kyndall Thrasher, Howard Thrasher, Jr.; 3 Great-grandchildren, 3 dearly loved aunts, Thelma, Elsie, and Dorothy; a sister, Catherine (LeRoy) Baker, a brother, Earl (Zelma) Sykes; and a host of relatives and friends.

Linda Dunlap

Linda Faye Benton-Dunlap, 54, ofLittle Rock, formerly of Pine Bluff, AR died on October 20, 2007.

Left to mourn her passing are: aunts, Jimmie Lee Harris, Betsy White, and Bradis Harris all of Pine Bluff, AR; uncle, Tommy Benton of Pine Bluff, AR.; a host of cousins, family, friends; a goddaughter, and godson.

Mrs. Dunlap s visitation will be Friday, October 26, 2007, 6-7pm, at Ruffin and Jarrett Funeral Home, 1200 Chester St., LR, (372-1305).

The funeral services will be Saturday, October 27, 2007, 1pm at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 2501 Main St. LR.

Interment follows at Oakland Cemetery.

Lucius Larry

Lucius Larry, 76, of North Little Rock, AR departed this life on October 7, 2007.

He is preceded in death by both parents, Josephine and Pearl Larry; 2 sisters, Leatta Ozier and Bernice Maxiel; 1 grandson, Ernest Lucius Washington; 2 brothers, Billie Lairry and Kenneth Lairry; sister in law, Marion Simmons.

His survivors include: wife, Barbara Larry; 2 daughters, Pamela Washington of Rockford, IL. and Barbara (Thomas) Mitchell of Flint, MI; 3 sisters, Earlene Jordan, Donella Jones, Frenchia Lairry Ellington; 2 brothers, Rev. Edward (Helen) Lairry and Jesse (Josephine) Lairry; brother in law, Paul (Viola) Brooks; five grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Home going service will be Saturday, October 13, 2007, 1:00 PM at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 850 Atkinson NLR, AR.

Interment will be Monday, October 15, 2007, 10:00 AM, at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, 1501 Maryland Ave. North Little Rock, AR.

Visitation will be Friday, October 12, 2007, 6-7 PM, also at Mt. Olive.

David Tate

David Henderson Tate, Jr. "Toe", 62, of Little Rock, passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2007.

He was born on March 2, 1945 to David H. Tate, Sr. and Augusta Brown-Tate.

He is survived by his Mother, Augusta Brown-Tate; two sons, David H. Tate, III (Diane) and David Peterson; one daughter, Tiffany Jordan of Little Rock. Two sisters, Mavis Scroggins and Annette Tate-Jones (Billy) of Little Rock, and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

His Father, David Tate, Sr. and one son Michael Baird preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at Ruffin & Jarrett Funeral Home.

Interment will follow at cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7:30- 8:30 p.m., Friday at the Funeral Home.

The family can be reached at 2301 S. Jackson St.

Dorothy Thomas

Dorothy Mae Thomas, 86, of Little Rock, Arkansas passed away on October 17, 2007.

Her survivors include: 2 sons, Dennis Thomas and Lindsey Thomas, Jr. (Faye); 3 daughters, Vicki Jackson, Phyllis Nichols (Bobby) and Patricia Long (Tony); 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Berniece Croston and a host nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 24, 2007, 11:00 AM, at First Liberty Hill Baptist Church, 2801 S. Spring Little Rock, AR.

Interment will follow at Rest In Peace Cemetery, Hensley, AR.

Family visitation: Tuesday, October 23, 2007, 7:30-8:30 PM, at Ruffin & Jarrett Funeral Home, 1200 Chester St. LR, AR (501) 372.1305.

Hasslee Hodge

Hasslee Brown-Hodge, 97, ofLittle Rock, AR passed away on October 15, 2007.

Her survivors include: son, William H. Hodge; 5 granddaughters, Linda Hodge-Seay (John), Cheryl Hodge-Franklin (Gerald), Cassandra Hodge-Reddick (Vonn), Wanda Hodge and Feleica Hodge-Omoware (Duke) and a host of other family and friends.

Home going service will be Saturday, October 20, 2007, 1:00 PM, at Greater Second Baptist Church, 5615 Geyer Springs Road, LR.

Interment will follow at Rest In Peace Cemetery, Hensley, AR.
