Evelyn Harris

Evelyn Lucille Harris, 90, of Cabot passed away Aug. 13, 2006 at the Arkansas Hospice Center in North Little Rock.

She was born November 28, 1915, in Chaffee, Mo.

She was a member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church in Cabot.

She was a graduate of St. Ambrose High School in Chaffee. In 1934, she was married to Ralph Stanley Harris. During the 1950's she advocated equal education rights and spent the rest of her life as a homemaker raising several generations of children.

She loved to sew, cook, play bridge, fish and volunteered her time and skills to many causes and organizations through the years.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Ava and Alvin Papin; her brothers, Lewis 'Bud' and Joe Papin; her sister, Alvina Schwaller; and her sons, William Eugene 'Gene' and Brian Carlton Harris.

She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Chris Harris of Little Rock, Sandy Pearson, Kelly Coughlin and Kristen 'Kish' Gardner; seven great-grandchildren, all of Cabot; three nieces, Pat Birkholz of Foristel, Mo., Sara Armellini of Eureka Springs, Janet Sharp of Salt Lake City, Utah, and two nephews, Dan Powell Melton of Jonesboro and Darrell Melton of Tennessee.

A memorial service was held Aug. 15 at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church in Cabot.

Memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice Center or Potluck Food Rescue.

Minnie Thomason

Minnie Christine Moore Thomason, 81, of Lonoke, died Saturday.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Lelon Thomason; her parents, Agnes Terry Moore Hester and Thurman Moore; her stepfather, John Thomas Hester; three brothers, Harold, Cecil, and Robert Moore; two sisters, Jessie Pearl Moore and Elizabeth Moore Hester; one grandson, Wade Finley, Jr.; and nephews, Robert Dean Hester and Jerry Don Moore.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Diana and Wade Finley, and Kathy and Tommy Franks, all of Lonoke; two grandsons, John Franks of Little Rock and Joe Franks of Lonoke; two granddaughters, Dawn Tirman of San Anselmo, Calif., and Lesley Faulkner of Little Rock, granddaughter-in-law, Amy Finley; two great-grandsons, Collin Tirman and Wade Finley III; one great-granddaughter, Skye Tirman; two sisters, Ann Pepper and Bess Campbell; one sister-in-law, Dorsie Moore; seven nieces and four nephews.

She is also survived by her late husband's nieces and nephews, who have been devoted to her since his death in 1997.

She was born on April 5, 1925, at Plainview, but spent the majority of her life in north Lonoke County. She and her husband were dairy farmers in the Wattensaw community for many years. She was known to say that her talent, she guessed, was milking cows. Sewing was also a great talent of hers.

She was a member of Wattensaw Baptist Church for more than 50 years and taught Sunday School class for more than 20 years.

She and her husband lived on the same farm for 57 years. Their home was the site of many family reunions and was a virtual 'coffee shop' to the entire community for many years, especially during deer season.

In 2004, she sold her farm and moved to Lonoke. Although her health was failing, she especially enjoyed the services at the Lonoke Library.

Funeral services were held at Wattensaw Baptist Church in Lonoke. Burial was in Wattensaw cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Wattensaw Baptist Church 7300 Hwy 31 N., Lonoke, Ark., 72086.

Mitchell Stuart

Mitchell Cranford 'Mitch' Stuart, 46, of Beebe, passed away Aug. 12, 2006.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jess and Nora Bailey Stuart; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Bailey of Beebe, and Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Stuart of Tampa, Fla.

He is survived by a son, Ben Stuart of Beebe; aunts, Polly Simmons and Marie Hobby of Sherwood, and Icy Hubbard of Beebe; uncle, Glen Bailey of Lewisville; special cousins, David and Sissy Branch of Beebe and a host of other close cousins, workmates, church family and a special friend, Terry Westfall of Gravel Ridge.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Westbrook Funeral Home in Beebe with burial in Mt. Bethel cemetery at Rose Bud.

Robert Thomas

Robert Jim Thomas, 81, of North Little Rock, died Aug. 13, 2006.

He is survived by one son, Robert Kent Thomas and wife, Joan of North Little Rock; two brothers, Russell Thomas and Joe Bob Thomas, and two sisters, Pauline Luebe and Mattie Armstrong.

Private graveside services will be held in Monk cemetery.

Fermon Kelley

Fermon Coy Kelley, 72, of Plano, Texas, formerly of Jacksonville, passed away after a long struggle with respiratory disease on Aug. 13, 2006 in Plano.

He was born October 27, 1933 in La Delle, to the late Martin Fermon Kelley and Tommie Deal Kelley.

He was a self-employed contractor, a 30-year member of Local 665, a member at First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville and an Air Force Korean War Veteran.

His brother, Thomas Lane also preceded him in death.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Margie Kelley, of Plano; one son, Allan Coy Kelley and wife, Alicia of Springfield, Mo., two daughters, Brenda A. Wells and husband, David of Springfield, and Marsha E. Parr of Plano; grandchildren, Brandy Parr, Cameron Wells, Bridgette Wells, Colton Kelley, Conner Kelley and Alexandra Kelley, and one brother, Michael Lane.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 17, at First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville with Rev. Wendell Dorman and Dr. Carol Goddard officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville.

Shirley Hopkins

Shirley Ann Petty Hopkins, 67, of Stuttgart passed away Aug. 5, 2006.

She was born March 5, 1939, in Little Rock, to the late Julius and Myrtle Petty.

Survivors include her sons, Ray Harrison and wife, Becky of Little Rock, Lynn Berry and wife, Sherry of Austin; one daughter, Susan Deely of Stuttgart; two brothers, Dr. Gene Petty of Longview, Texas, and Dr. Charles Petty of Raleigh, N.C.; one stepsister, Lois Lovette of Stuttgart, and seven grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Aug. 7 at First Baptist Church in England. Funeral arrangements were by Thomas Funeral Service.

Robert Morrison

Robert Dwayne Morrison, 44, of Cabot, died Aug. 3, 2006.

He was the son of Robert Lee Morrison and Elender Ashmore Morrison.

He attended the Apostolic Church in North Little Rock. He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include one son, Robbie Morrison; one daughter, Sarah Morrison; one sister, Tamera Morrison, and his mother, all of Cabot.

Funeral services were held Aug. 7 at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home in North Little Rock.

Burial was in Rest Hills Memorial Park.

Jessie Scott

Jessie A. Scott, 77, of Jacksonville, died Aug. 7, 2006 at her home. She was born Oct. 19, 1928 in Washington, D.C. to the late Wallace E. and Elsie Schenck Miller.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Norman Russell Scott; a son, Steven M. Scott, and two sisters, Murle Miller-Casey and Elsie Buddington.

Jessie was a member of First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville. She was a member of Seekers Sunday School Class and First United Methodist Church Young At Heart. She was a member of Rebsamen Medical Auxiliary, a lifetime member of AFSAA and volunteered at the Little Rock Air Force Base Pharmacy. She was a Leader employee.

Survivors include a daughter, Aileen Holt of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a son, Russell Scott and his wife, Angela of Jacksonville; five grandchildren, Chris Scott of Little Rock, Jessica Holt of Tampa, Fla., Kimberly Chrissonberry of Conway, Leslie Hallahan of California, Steven Holt of Colorado Springs and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Aug. 10 at the First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville with Rev. Charles Watts officiating.
Interment followed at The National Veteran's cemetery in Little Rock.

Visitation was held Aug. 9 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville or to the American Red Cross.

Charles Schmitt

Charles Edward Schmitt, 49, of Jacksonville, passed away Aug. 6, 2006.

He was born April, 8, 1957, in Little Rock, the son of Heles McDaniel Stoneking of Jacksonville and the late Waymon Schmitt.

Survivors include two brothers, Orville Mccoy, Sr., and Jackie Larell McCoy, Jr., both of Jacksonville; two sisters, Barbara Moon of Maumelle and Brenda Mitchell of Fort Smith; one aunt, Alice Thompson of Jacksonville; three cousins; a host of nieces and nephews and many friends.

Funeral services were held Aug. 9 at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Chapel in North Little Rock.

Anthony Chanicka

Tech. Sgt. Retired, Anthony 'Tony' Chanicka, 52, of Ward went to be with our Lord on March 24, 2007 while visiting family and friends in Trinidad, the land of his birth.

Tony joined the Air Force shortly after his arrival in the U.S. and served proudly for 20 years. He retired in June 2000 from the 61st Airlift Squadron at Little Rock Air Force Base, then joined the Falcon Jet team as a safety manager.

He leaves behind many friends and family both in the United States and in Trinidad. Although Tony can't physically be with us, a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. April 14 at Ward First Baptist Church. Please join us as we pay our final respects to Tony.

David Goins

David Delbert Goins, 72, of North Little Rock passed away April 7, 2007.

He was born March 8, 1935 to the late Neal and Evelin Hall Goins in Belfield, N.D. From 1954 to 1956, David served in the Marines. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1960. He was a member of First United Methodist in Jacksonville and a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joanne Goins and brother, Norman Goins.

He is survived by his wife, Ernestine Goins; children, Blane Goins of Little Rock and Derek Goins and his wife Kathi of Mesa, Ariz.; step-sons, J. Mark Hardin and his wife Debbie of Greenbriar and Joe D. Hardin and his wife Beth of Greensboro, N.C.; brothers, Neal Goins and his wife Barbara of Dardenelle and Hubert Goins and his wife Helen of Berryville; sister, Mary Ann Weldon and her husband Tom of Owassa; and seven grandchildren, Ciara and Justin Goins, Kelli Corda, Allen, Kristopher, Greyson, and Amanda Hardin.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 11 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Flemming officiating. Entombment will follow at Chapel Hill Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to Arkansas Children's Hospital.
