Roy Chudy, 89, of Hickory Plains was called to his heavenly home on April 19, 2009. He was born Dec. 27, 1919, in North Little Rock to Joseph and Laura Chudy.
Roy grew up and lived in North Little Rock for most of his life. In 1944, he married
his childhood sweetheart, Jean Rush. He served in World War II. He was always proud to have served his country.
Roy retired from Chicopee Manufacturing Company in North Little Rock. He was involved in so many activities. He was a volunteer archery instructor at the North Little Rock Boys Club and he was president of the Archery Association.
Roy was always involved in something, such as hunting, fishing, raising quail, archery tournaments, beekeeping and especially gardening. Roy loved to raise a huge garden and take his produce up to the post office to give it all away. Roy attended Hebron United Methodist church of his community.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean Rush Chudy; one great-grandson, Noah Madru, and six siblings.
He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Lu Madru and husband Tom of Hickory Plains; a grandson, Dustin Chudy and wife Erika of Little Rock; granddaughter, Krystle Hobart and husband David and a great grandson, Elijah Hobart of Mabelvale, as well as many friends and cousins.
The family would like to thank Tina Davidson, his very special caretaker, and Arkansas Hospice of Cabot for all their loving help and care.
A graveside service to celebrate his life was April 21 at Hickory Plains cemetery. Arrangements were by Westbrook Funeral Home in Beebe.
ALBERT SMITH
Albert Ronald Smith of Cabot went to be with the Lord on April 16, 2009. He was born July 2, 1921, to the late Emmett Eugene and Lela Grace Carrol Smith. He served as a gunner in the Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1948. He was a 50-year Mason and member of Mt. Pleasant Ward 99, and was retired from the Rock Island Railroad where he was employed for several years as a brakeman.
He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Cabot for 40 years, where he served as a deacon, taught Sunday school class and was a head usher. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. His presence will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Flota Daniels; his brother, Hudson Smith; his granddaughter, Tiffany Morden; his grandson, Adam Goforth and his son-in-law, Dr. Jerry Chapman.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Elsie Reid Smith. Other survivors are three daughters, Reida Robinson and her husband Gary of Las Vegas, Nev., Sandra Goforth and her husband Rickie of North Little Rock, Diane Chapman and her late husband Dr. Jerry Chapman of Cabot; two brothers, E. Eugene Smith and his wife Elwanda of Conway and Doyle B. Smith and his wife Wanda of Little Rock; three granddaughters, Lark Buckingham of Little Rock, Amanda Jones and her husband Scott of Sherwood and Melanye Weir of Cabot; one grandson, Jace Chapman of Houston; six great-grandchildren; six nieces, two nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral was April 20 at First Baptist Church of Cabot. Interment followed at Sylvania cemetery. Arrangements were by Westbrook Funeral Home in Beebe.
MARVIN STRACENER
Marvin Edward Stracener, 70, of Cabot passed away on April 18, 2009 after a long and courageous battle against cancer.
Marvin was a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and he retired from Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America in Searcy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lottie Stracener of Gravel Hill, and a grandson, Seth Edward Stracener of Kingsport, Tenn.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nell Webb Stracener; three sons, Steve Stracener and hiswife Sheree of Kingsport, Tenn., Scott Stracener of Cabot, and Stan Stracener and his wife Stacy of Cabot; six grandchildren, Stephanie and Spencer Stracener of Kingsport, Tenn., Ashley, Baylee, Cole and Brookly Stracener of Cabot; and one sister, Vela Strayhorn and husband Clarence of McRae.
Memorials may be made to Faith Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 1475, Cabot, Ark. 72023 or to the American Cancer Society.
The funeral was April 21 at Faith Missionary Church of Cabot with burial at Romance cemetery. Arrangements were by Westbrook Funeral Home in Beebe.
John Sutton
John Shelby Sutton, 52, of Alexander, passed away Thursday, August 3, 2006.
He was born September 27, 1953, in Little Rock to the late Van D. Sutton and Mary Yarberry Sutton Cullins.
He was an ordained minister.
He is survived by his children, Shelly Cagle and husband Terry of Cowan, Tenn., and James Sutton and wife Connie of Ward; brother, Lee Sutton; sisters, Sue Mullings and husband Sam of Alexander and Sharon Fluker; two nieces, Kimberly Axelson and LeAnn Bajorek; five grandchildren and his fiance', Zora Anderson of Beebe.
A memorial service was held Tuesday at Viney Ridge Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Karl Oelschlager
Karl H. Oelschlager, 54, of Jacksonville, died Friday, August 4, 2006 at his home.
He was born October 31, 1951, in Bridgeville, Penn., to the late John H. and Myrna C. Gilkeson Oelschlager.
He served in the United States Air Force and was a Lutheran. He was a member of ABATE - 13, American Motorcycle Association and an honorary member of Rolling Thunder Inc. Arkansas Chapter I. Survivors include his children; Marissa and Jon Oelschlager, both of Gainsville, Flo., two sisters; Diane Heinz of Port St. Lucie, Flo. and Margaret Watts and her husband Ed of Bridgeville, Penn., two brothers; James Oelschlager and his wife Corry of Flemington, New Jersey and Jack Oelschlager and his wife Jacqueline of Canonsburg, Penn. and two grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m., Thursday at Moore's Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville.
Leroy Bacus
Leroy Bacus, 68, of Beebe, died Thursday, August 3, 2006 in Searcy.
He was born August 22, 1937, to Elmer and Maybell Powell Bacus.
He was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Austin.
He was preceded in death by his father; Elmer Carl Bacus Jr. and his sister; Margaret Martin.
Survivors include his wife, Corena Gray Bacus, mother, one brother, Carl Bacus III of McRae, five sisters; Leola Christene Young and Norma Gene Forester, both of Beebe, Margie Stephens of Conway, Lorrine Bacus of Florida, and Patricia Secreast of Florida.
A private service was held at the home of Leola Young Monday with the Rev. Otto Brown officiating.
Sherry Stanfield
Sherry Anne Stanfield, 66, of Jacksonville passed away Sunday, August 6, 2006 at her home after a long illness.
She was born on September 29, 1939, in Bemis, Tenn., to the late Raymond T. and Ann Elizabeth 'Garr' Davis.
She was an active member of the Brockington Road Baptist Church in Jacksonville.
She was a nurse for many years and served as such in both Mississippi and Arkansas, especially to the elderly.
She is survived by four sons, Mike Beall of Atlanta, Georgia, Todd Beall and wife Charolette of Jacksonville and Scott Beall and wife Joanne of Columbus, Miss. and Jeff Beall and wife Cindy of Brandon, Miss., two brothers, John Davis of Ellijay, Georgia and Tommy Davis of Clinton, Miss., grandchildren, Alan, Byron, Courtney, Katie, Wyatt, Lauren, Kristopher, John David and numerous other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be at noon Thursday at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel in Raymond, Miss..
Burial will follow in Raymond cemetery. Visitation will be today from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Brockington Road Baptist Church.
Sylvia Mitchell
Sylvia Maxwell Mitchell, 70, of Jacksonville died Nov. 6, 2007.
She was born Nov. 16, 1936 in Dumfries, Scotland, to the late Robert and Elizabeth Maxwell.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Mitchell and stepfather, Jack Williams.
She retired after working 25 years for First Arkansas Bank and Trust. She was a member of The Church of England and also the Business and Professional Women and The English Ladies organizations.
Survivors include her daughter, Catherine Mitchell-Buzbee and husband Richard of Little Rock; son, Mark Mitchell and wife Judy of Santa Fe, Texas; three sisters, Aileen McQueen and husband Jackie of Dumfries, Scotland, Moria Young and husband Heston of Danville, Ky., Sharon Adams and husband Phillip of Margate, England; five brothers, Ian Williams and wife Janet of Burchington, England, Max Williams and wife Doreen of Margate, Ronnie Williams and wife Carol of Ramsgate, England, Dennis Williams and wife Maureen of Durham, England, and Gordon Williams of Bristol, England; three granddaughters, Melissa, Megan and Erin Mitchell; two step-granddaughters, Amanda and Jodi Carr; three great-grandchildren, Eric Teague, Cameron Kirschner, and James Theiler.
She will be missed by everyone at First Arkansas Bank and Trust and by her special friends, Carl Wayne and Maureen Wilmouth, Cathy Erickson and Susan Erickson.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 in the chapel of Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs.
William Jennings
William Dale Jennings, 36, died Nov. 8, 2007. He is survived by one son, Joseph Reese Jennings of Lonoke; his parents, Dale and Kathy Jennings of Lonoke, and one sister, Laura Jennings of Little Rock, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 at Concord United Methodist Church with burial in Concord cemetery in Lonoke. Funeral arrangements are by Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke.
Richard Hummel
Richard Hummel, 81, of Jacksonville went to join his loving wife Yvonne in the presence of the Lord Nov. 8, 2007 in North Little Rock.
He was born August 6, 1926 in Port Clinton, Pa., to the late Herbert and Irma Hummel.
He proudly served his country in both the Navy as a radio operator and a flier and the Air Force as a Russian linguist and in personnel management.
He was a member of the Lions Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4509, NCOA and the American Legion. He was of the Episcopal faith.
Survivors include his son, Adrian Hummel of Jacksonville; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Hummel of Conway; brother, Herbert Hummel Jr. and wife Sally; nieces, Lynn and Robin and one nephew, Stevie.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12 at Victory Baptist Church in Jacksonville with Rev. Dale Scott officiating.
Edna Blanchard
Edna M. Blanchard, 87, of Jacksonville died Nov. 4, 2007. She was born Jan. 15, 1920 in Mauldin, Mass., to the late John and Mary Jane Smith.
She was a secretary for Melrose Wakefield hospital before retiring.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Richard E. Blanchard; two sons, Richard W. and Robert Blanchard and wife Jackie; three grandchildren, Rachel, Joshua and Cassandra.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14 at Puritan Lawn cemetery in Peabody, Mass.
