HARTWELL THOMAS "SONNY' WILSON

Hartwell Thomas, "Sonny" Wilson, 86, of Little Rock, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004. Sonny was born in Helena, where he graduated from high school. He also graduated from Mississippi State University in Starkville.

After school, he was drafted and he joined the U.S. Army and was apart of the D-Day Invasion, arriving at Normandy Beach six days after the invasion. He was wounded two months after his arrival.

Within that short period of time, Sonny was awarded 2 Bronze Stars, a Silver Star and Purple Heart. He eventually returned to Arkansas and started his career in sales working for Arkmo Lumber Co. in Corpus Christi, Texas, and Little Rock.

Sonny and Jess Harkness Curl, of Helena, were married in 1945, raising two sons, John and Hartwell. Sonny continued his interest in the lumber business working for Arkla Gas Co. where he was sales manager of their Forest Products Division. Before his retirement in 1974 he worked for Stewart Forest Products. Sonny loved hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He was a member of Lakeside Country Club, and Belcher Hunting Club. He and Jess were members of Westover Hills Presbyterian Church. Sonny leaves his wife of 59 years, Jess Harkness Curl Wilson, of Little Rock; two sons, John Charles Wilson and wife Ann of Little Rock, Hartwell Thomas Wilson of Wichita Falls, Texas; two brothers-in-law, Robert S. Curl and wife Glenna of Amarillo, Texas, Charles C. Curl of Amarillo, Texas; a sister Marjorie Hall of Live Oaks, Fla., and two grandchildren, Matthew and Jessica Wilson.

There will be a visitation Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Ruebel Funeral Home, followed by a memorial service Saturday at 10 a.m. at Westover Hills Presbyterian Church officiated by Reverends Debbie and Jim Freeman. Services are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com.

Memorials in lieu of flowers should be made to Westover Hills Presbyterian Church, 6400 Kavanaugh Blvd, Little Rock 72207, or Presbyterian Village Residence Center, 500 Brookside Drive, Little Rock 72205.

ROSETTA COLEMAN

Funeral services for Mrs. Rosetta Coleman, 70, will be held Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Old St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in West Memphis. Pastor Rev. Frederick Anthony will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Olive cemetery in Marvell (Sandtuck community).

Mrs. Coleman was born Sept. 16, 1934 in Phillips County. Her parents were the late Henry and Lucille Cobbins Woods. Mrs. Coleman departed this life on Monday, Oct. 18, 2004 at Crittenden Memorial Hospital in West Memphis. She accepted Christ at an early age.

Her husband, Nolan Coleman, and two children preceded her in death.

Her memory will be forever remembered and cherished by her loving mother, Mrs. Lucille Sebastian of Marvell, six sons, Rufus Coleman of Springdale, John Coleman of Fort Worth, Texas, W.A. Coleman, Floyd Coleman, Edward Coleman and Jessie Coleman, all of West Memphis; a sister, Pearl Thomas and a brother, Franklin Cook Sr., all of Marvell; 25 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

SYDNEY PATTERSON

Funeral services for Sydney Patterson, age 7, of Choudrant, La., will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004 at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Pastor Wayne Evans will officiate. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 9 p.m. today at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home.

Patterson, born Feb. 28, 1997 in Helena, died Oct. 8, 2004 in an auto accident at McGehee. She was a student at Choudrant Elementary School in Choudrant, La.

She leaves her parents, Theresia "Sissy" Patterson of Choudrant, La., her father Stephen Patterson of Cleveland, Miss., her grandfather Gerald Evans of Choudrant, La., grandmother Theresia Evans of West Helena grandfather Willie Patterson of Clarksdale, Miss., Grandparents Dorothy Bourgeois and Richard Bourgeois of Picayune, Miss., step-grandmother Debbie Evans of Choudrant, La., uncles and aunts, Gerald Wayne Evans Jr., and wife Mary of Franklinton, La., Seth Evans and wife Jessica and Gary Patterson and wife Brandy of Choudrant, La.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Simmons, Josh Rowland, Adam Rowland and Danny Martin. Honorary pallbearers will be Daggen Martin and Terry Lee Evans.

Roller-Citizens Funeral Home will direct services.

CAROLYN CUNNINGHAM

Visitation for former West Helena Librarian Carolyn Cunningham will be held from 5 until 9 p.m. this evening at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home.

ANNIE M. WILLIAMS

Annie Mae Williams, 72, of Little Rock, formerly of West Helena died Oct. 4, 2004. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Brown's Home for Funerals.

BESSIE L. KING

Funeral services for Bessie Lee King, 93, of Chicago, formerly of Lake View will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct 16, 2004 at the Lake View Church of God in Christ. Burial will be at Jackson Memorial cemetery in the Southland Community.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church.

King, born April 18, 1911 in Boyce, La., to the union of Louise and Ed Montgomery, died Oct. 9, 2004 at the Manor Case Nursing Home in Homewood, Ill. Two siblings Grover Lee Montgomery and Ella Doris Montgomery Davis preceded her in death.

King attended the public school in Boyce and finished her education in Dermott, where her family later moved. While in Dermott, King met and married her husband of 64 years, Leroy King, who preceded her in death. To their union three sons were born, Harvey Charles King and Clent Otis King, who preceded her in death, and Roy Chester King and a goddaughter, Lillian Walker, whom she helped raise.

Recognizing that Christ was the head of her life, she converted at an early age. King and the family moved to Lake View and there she joined the Lake View Church of God in Christ. She faithfully attended church and served on the Usher Board for many years. You would often find her greeting you at the door with her kind and gentle smile, followed by a sweet "Praise the Lord."

In August 1997, King moved to Blue Island, Ill., after realizing the need to be closer to her family. In Blue Island, she joined Robbins Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Willie J. Anderson where she served faithfully on the Mother's Board until her health declined.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Harvey Charles King of Houston, Texas and Roy Chester King and wife Velma of Blue Island, Ill.; three grandchildren, Carla Bond and husband Rev. Robert Bond, Pamela Williams and husband, Bradley and Timothy King; seven great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Brown's Home for Funerals will direct services.

FORIANDO SLAUGHTER

Graveside services for Foriando Francis Slaughter, 78, of Helena will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004 at the Marvell cemetery. The Rev. Rodger Hooker will officiate.

Slaughter, born Sept. 28, 1928 in Holly Grove the son of Samuel Jessie Slaughter and Birdie McClesh, died Dec. 18, 2004 in Helena.

He leaves five nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Gideons.

Roller-Citizens Funeral Home will direct services.

CORNELL ARTER

Funeral services for Cornell (Smith) Arter, 56, of Chicago Ill., formerly of Lake View will be held at noon Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004 at the First Baptist Church in Lake View. The Rev. G.G Brown will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Grove cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 until 6 p.m. today at Jackson and Highley Funeral Home.

Arter, born April 29, 1948 was one of 16 children born to the late Lucious and Jessie Lee Arter. He died Dec. 16, 2004 in Chicago.

He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the First Baptist Church at Lake View. He graduated from C.V. White High School in 1968 and joined the U.S. Army.

He was married to the late Monine Arter and three children were born to their union.

He leaves a daughter, Katrenia and Claude Royster of Aurora, Ill., two sons Roderick Brown of Helena and Keifran and Stephanie Arter of Bloomington, Ill., five grandchildren, Kiara, Roderick Jr., Kallen, Kai, Kniyah; three sisters, and their families Ollie Mae and Willie Murray, Fannie Smith, Elizabeth and James Lidell, Wanda and Arvy Jordan all of Chicago., Ill., Susie Arter of Flint, Mich., Jacqueline and Dwayne Henry of West Helena Linda and Curtis Evans of Flint, Mich., Sue Ella and Sammy Wade, Alice and Man Childs all of Lake View, and Ora Lee Arter of Los Angeles, Calif., four brothers, Alfred Owens of Chicago, Ill., Clifton and Carolyn Owens of Minneapolis, Minn., Columbus and Linda Owens of Hanover Park, Ill., Lucious and Patricia Arter of Fort Smith; an aunt Fannie Owens of Dumas, one uncle Joseph Williams of Minneapolis, Minn., five sisters in law, three brothers-in-law and a host of relatives and friends.

Jackson and Highley Funeral Home will direct services.

BILLY MONEYMAKER

Funeral services for Billy Martin Moneymaker, 66, of Helena were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20, 2004 at the United Pentecostal Church. The Rev. Kenneth Harmon officiated. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Park in Barton.

Moneymaker, born Aug. 24, 1938 at Barton, died Dec. 17, 2004 in West Memphis, from complications after suffering a stroke.

He was employed in construction work.

He leaves his wife Deanna Moneymaker of Helena, four sons, Mark Moneymaker of Marianna, David Moneymaker of Barton, Tommy Moneymaker of Helena and Tim Moneymaker of West Helena; three granddaughters Brittney Moneymaker of Gosnell, Jessica Moneymaker of Birmingham, Ala., and Carrie McBride; two grandsons Steven and Bradley Moneymaker of Barton; four brothers, Virgil Moneymaker of Helena, Richard Moneymaker and Mike Moneymaker of West Helena, Bobby Moneymaker of Sumitt, Miss.; three sisters Virginia Levenette of Dallas, Texas, Shirley Morton of Raymoore, Mo., and Nancy Moneymaker of Helena; and an aunt Wanda Ridge of Marianna.

His parents George and Myrtle Moneymaker and a brother, John Moneymaker, preceded him in death.

Pallbearers were Jake Moneymaker, James Mathis, Harold Rose, Charles Rose, Frank Rose and Ronnie Layton.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Roller Citizens Funeral Home directed services.

ERNEST L. GREEN

Funeral services for Ernest Leon Green, 57, of Heber Springs, formerly of West Helena, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004 at the River of Praise Assembly of God Church in West Helena. The Rev. Steve Burton will officiate.

Green, born Jan. 5, 1947 in Harrisburg, died Oct. 14, 2004 in Heber Springs. He was a machinist for Remington Arms and was a member of River of Praise Assembly of God Church in West Helena.

He leaves his mother, Louise Green of West Helena; a son Ashley Green of West Helena; a daughter and son-in-law, Carrie and Shawn Teague of Heber Springs and a sister Susan Kennedy of West Helena; three grandchildren; two nieces and three nephews.

Pallbearers will be James Johnston, Jack Horner, Charles Allen, Roger Griffin, Jim Paul Benton, Danny Vandiver, Randy Beard, Jimmy Gordon and Alex Green. Members of the Central High School Class of 1965 will be honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be sent to the Alice Bass Memorial Scholarship fund at Helena National Bank.

Roller-Citizens Funeral Home will direct services.

GLADYS TRICE

Funeral services for Gladys Ruth Trice, 76, of Helena will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2004 at the chapel of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. The Rev. Derl Cordell will officiate. Burial will be at the Cypert cemetery in the Cypert Community.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home.

Trice, born May 24, 1928 in the Cypert Community, died Oct. 14, 2004 in West Helena. She was a retired seamstress from the Bobbie Brooks Garment Factory in West Helena.

She leaves two sons Gary Hooker of West Helena and Christopher Trice of Dewitt, two granddaughters Christy Leslie of Jonesboro and Jessica Hooker of West Helena; two great-granddaughters and a sister Cora May Dyce of Dewitt.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society.

Roller-Citizens Funeral Home will direct services.
