Funeral services for Bankston Waters, 80, of West Helena will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004 at the West Helena United Methodist Church. The Rev. Rebecca Wiseman will officiate. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park in Barton.
Waters, born Jan. 16, 1924 in Barton, died Aug. 4, 2004 at his residence. He was owner of a mechanical contracting business, several motels and was a real estate developer.
He was a veteran of World War II and Korea, was a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner, former West Helena city council member, served as an Ark. State Police Commissioner under the late Gov. Winthrop Rockefeller for over 20 years, and was a Republican representative on the Phillips County Election Commission.
He leaves his wife, Maxine Funderburk Waters of West Helena; two sons Bankston Edmond Waters of Destin, Fla., and Ralph K. Waters of Memphis, Tenn., a daughter Mary Susan Childress of Little Rock; two step-sons, Ron Funderburk and S.L. Funderburk of Apoka, Fla., a sister Sara Warrick of West Helena, five grandchildren; two step grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ray Warrick, Mark Kirshner, Charles Waters, Henry King, Mike McCarty and Johnny Miller.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. John Barrow, Bob Carpenter, Jim Hall, Eddie Schieffler, Bill Akers, Judge L.T. Sims, Arnell Willis, members of the West Helena Methodist Men's Club, members of the Wally Byam Razorback Club, and members of Cotton Pickin Good Sams Club.

Funeral services for Samuel Gause Sr., 73, of West Helena will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004 at the Phillips, Lee, Monroe and Desha District Center at Helena Crossing. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial cemetery in the Southland Community.
Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Jackson and Highley Funeral Home in West Helena.
Gause, born Feb. 11, 1931 to the late Andrew and Addie B. Gause in Grenada, Miss., died July 31, 2004.
He professed a hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Silver Cloud M.B. Church by the late Rev. J.W. Webb. He served as a deacon under the leadership of Rev. Walter Debro until his health failed
Gause was educated in the Helena-West Helena Public Schools and after graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve. A Vietnam veteran he proudly served his country for two years and was stationed at Camp Chaffee and served with the 64th MP Battalion in Japan.
He married
Johnnie Mae Williams and four sons and three daughters were born to their union. One child preceded him in death.
With a great love of people and commitment to the community he was employed by the West Helena Police Department until Feb. 15, 1989, when he retired as a captain. He was employed at Helena Regional Medical Center for a year.
His parents, a brother Tommie Gause two sisters Frankie Mae Bell and Lenora M. Gause and a son James Gregory Gause preceded him in death.
He leaves his wife Johnnie Mae Gause; three sons Samuel Gause Jr., and wife Betty of Helena, Ronald N. Gause and wife Arline of Dumfries, Va., and Joseph Gause of Helena; six daughters, Samella Williams and husband Clarence of Sherwood, Carolyn Sheppard and husband Jimmy of Choctow, Ohio, Joann Perry and husband Kevin of Jacksonville, N.C., Wanda Robinson and husband Willie of Helena, Johnnie Gause Taylor and Renae Gause Mayo both of West Helena; a sister, Aundrey Stevenson of Indiana, an aunt Pearlie Brown of Helena and a sister-in law Roberta Gause of Southland; 23 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorial services to honor the memory of Jerome Bonaparte Pillow, 83, life-long resident of Helena will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Helena. The Rev. Evelyn Hornaday will officiate.
He leaves his loving wife of 57 years Katherine Knight Pillow; a son Jerome Pillow Jr. and daughter-in-law Gina Pillow of Helena, a daughter Lee Pillow Sheffield and son-in-law Jay Sheffield of Memphis; son Gideon Pillow and daughter-in-law Charlotte Pillow of Paragould; a brother James Pillow of Memphis; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
His parents James H. Pillow and Mary Bell Pillow, a brother Joel Pillow, sisters Mary Pillow and Dale Pillow Kirkman preceded him in death.
Pillow will be remembered as a devoted husband and father who willingly shared his love of gardening with his many friends and family. He was employed in the insurance field for many years with Helena Insurance and later as president of Capitol Old Line Insurance Co., and as president of Delta Life and Annuity of Memphis. He was a World War II Veteran and served as a P-38 pilot in the Panama Canal Zone.

Funeral services for Rebecca Jackson Brookshire, 41, of Helena will be held at noon Friday, Aug. 6, 2004 at the First Baptist Church at Midland Heights in Helena. The Rev. L.T. Mapp will officiate. Burial will be at Magnolia cemetery in Helena.
Visitation will be held from 1 until 7 p.m. this evening at the chapel of Jackson and Highley Funeral Home in West Helena.
Brookshire was born April 12, 1963 to Will and Alice Jackson in Crumrod.
She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at the Precious Grove Church in Crumrod. She later joined the First Baptist Church at Midland Heights in Helena.
Her husband, and two sisters Lucille Hunt and Louise Ross preceded her in death
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Calvin Brookshire of Helena; four daughters, Alice Jackson of Las Vegas, Nev., Loretta Cooper, Sharon Byrd and Danita Byrd all of Helena, a son Melvin Byrd Jr., of Helena; two brothers, Danny and Pattie Brown of Cleveland, Ohio and Percy and Tony Brown of Kileen, Texas; a sister Rosie Moss of Helena; and a special granddaughter Latoya Byrd of Helena; 19 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

JAMES STROGER
Graveside services for James Stroger, 66, brother of Cook County board President John H. Stroger Jr., will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004 at Magnolia cemetery in Helena. Stroger died Aug. 3, 2004 after a long illness.
Stroger the youngest of four children born to John and Ella Stroger in Helena moved to Chicago more than 40 years ago and worked at several public agencies. A devout Catholic, James had a special spirit for life and a smile that could light up a room.
James was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Cleopatra Dunnings who died in 1998, his brother Earl Carlton Stroger who died as a young child and a nephew Hans Stroger.
He leaves a brother, John H. Stroger Jr., three nieces, Yvonne Lynn Stroger Clark, Donna Dunnings Lewis and Trudi Dunnings; a nephew, Alderman Todd Stroger and several great nieces and nephews.

Jones, born Aug. 27, 1929 in Lexa the daughter of the late Walter and Naomi Mackey, died Aug. 2, 2004 at Helena Regional Medical Center.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Mount Moriah M.B. Church.
She leaves five sons, Walter Bailey and Earl Jones of Chicago, Ill., Jerry Jones and Melvin Jones of St. Louis, and David Jones of Dallas, Texas; six daughters, Dorothy Savage of Lexa, Lonnie Petty of Denver, Colo., Dorsie B. Shelton of St. Louis, Nadine Gamble of Indianapolis, Ind., Linda Reed of Norfolk, Va., and Shirley Jones of St. Louis and a host of grandchildren.

Funeral services for Freeman Kelso Bryant, 76, of Little Rock, formerly of Helena who died Saturday, July 31, 2004 at St. Vincent's Infirmary Medical Center in Little Rock will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7 at the First Missionary Baptist Church Rockport. Dr. J.N. McCollum, pastor and Elder Billy McCoy, pastor of St. Paul Church of God in Christ will deliver the eulogy.
Burial will be at Perla cemetery with Brandon's Mortuary of Malvern in charge of arrangements.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at Brandon' Mortuary in Malvern.
Bryant, was born April 28, 1928 in Perla, Arkansas to the late Arthur Bryant and Ollie Medrettie Jones Bryant. He was a retired employee of Allied Chemical Company in Helena and of the Baptist faith.
He leaves his children, Sharon Clegg Montgomery of Prattsville, Freeman Bryant Jr., and wife Felicia of Dallas, Tommy and Linda Bryant of Malvern, Marilyn and Lovell Caldwell of Little Rock, Jerry and Linda Bryant of Detroit, Mich., Jacqueline and William Mobley of Plano, Texas, Michael and Saundra Bryant of San Antonio, Texas, Marcus and Doris Bryant of Chicago, Ill., David and Eddie Bryant, Arthur and Katherine Bryant, Jordan Bryant and Michelle Bryant all of Helena; two brothers, James Bryant and Herschel and Queen Bryant of Malvern and a sister, Katie Haynes of Malvern.
ROBIN REYNOLDS
Robin W. Reynolds, 57, of Jonesboro, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004 at his home. He was born in Pine Bluff and lived in Jonesboro for the past 37 years.
He was a Rehabilitation Counselor with Arkansas Rehabilitation Service and was named the employee of the month in February and also received the Search for a Star Outstanding Advocate award. He received his Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Arkansas State University. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha, where he was given the Jim Stephens award in 1975 and also a member of Psi Chi Honor Society for Psychology majors.
During the 1980's, Robin owned and operated Soundplex Creations in Jonesboro, a 24-track recording studio. He was a member of the Mensa Society, the National Rehabilitation Association, and held a black belt in Higa Dojo in Okinawa. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force in 1974, having served in England and Okinawa. His father James William Reynolds preceded him in death, in 1974.
He leaves a son Nathan Reynolds of Jonesboro, a daughter Lauren Reynolds of Jonesboro; his mother Ann Oldham of Helena; a sister, Cynthia Eisemann of Brooklyn, New York, a stepsister, Dean Ann Sykes of Fountain Hills, Arizona.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in room 1112 in the Arkansas Services Center, 2920 McClellan Drive in Jonesboro.

Bullocks, born July 14, 1942 to the late Mrs. Maggie Bullocks Buie, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004 in Little Rock
At an early age, Bullocks professed a hope in Christ and united with the New Light Missionary Baptist Church in Helena under Pastor E.E. Franklin. He was educated in the public schools of the Helena-West Helena School District. He completed high school at Eliza Miller Senior High School where he starred as a player with the 1959 Championship Buccaneers. He matriculated at AM&N; College in Pine Bluff and he excelled as a football player with the "Golden Lions". He graduated from AM&N; College in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in industrial arts.
After college, Bullocks began his professional career in the field that he loved dearly. He began coaching at his alma mater and later coached at Central High School in West Helena. In 1973, Bullocks moved to Chicago where he worked with the Boy Scouts of America; taught school at Community High School District 218, Saulk Area Center in Robbins, Ill; and worked as a social worker for Cook County Family Courts. Upon returning to Arkansas in 1991, Bullocks tried entrepreneurship, teaching, and social work. He completed his professional career as a probation officer for the Department of Community Correction in Pine Bluff.
Bullocks was loved by a host of family and friends. His youngest son, Harvey Jr., preceded him in death, and his brother, Simon Buie.
He leaves a multitude of people who will cherish his memory: a loving and dedicated friend, Mary Moore of Little Rock; four sons, Harvey Bullocks Jr. and his wife Diane of Pine Bluff, Brent Bullocks of Detroit, and Michael and Ricky Bullard of Atlanta; one daughter, Beatrice Bullocks of Detroit; three sisters, Minnie L. Henry of West Helena, Rugenal Anderson of North Little Rock, and Joyce White of Little Rock; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
