Burgess, born Aug. 18, 1918, in McCrory, died Feb. 3, 2003, at Helena Regional Medical Center.
She was a homemaker and was of the Pentecostal faith.
She leaves two daughters, Mona Chisnall of Longview, Texas and Tona Malcolm of West Helena; two sons, Rickey Burgess of West Helena and Jimmy Wiley of New Orleans, La.; two sisters, Ethel Davis of Marvell and Loudie Henderson of North Little Rock; 13 grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
Her husband James Burgess, five sons and a daughter preceded her in death.
Pallbearers will be Matt Oxner, Jason Odle, John Harden, Daniel Wilson, John Summerhill, and Pug Henson.

Funeral services for Quincy Thompson, 86, of West Helena will be held at noon Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at the True Vine Missionary Baptist Church, in West Helena. The Rev. Lonnie Whitfield will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Grove cemetery in West Helena.

Thompson, born Dec. 23, 1916, in Mississippi to Gustavia and Ed Thompson, died Jan. 30, 2003, at his home in West Helena.
He professed a hope in Christ and joined the True Vine M.B. Church in West Helena. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. Thompson was employed by Chicago Mill for 20 years and worked for another 20 years for Merchants and Farmers Bank, while also working part-time for Helena Country Club.
He leaves three sons and their families, James Thompson, Paris and Demaris Thompson, and Lee and Christine Thompson of West Helena; seven daughters and their families, Ruby Lee Bennett, of Maywood, Ill., Minister Emma Jean Thompson of Brooklyn, New York, Etta and James Lewis, Vera White and Rae and Mike King of West Helena, Vernetta and James Saunders of Overland, Kan., and Brenda and Albert Haigler of West Helena; a sister, Kate Ella Young of West Helena; two sisters in-law, Juanita Hogan of Los Angeles, Calif., and Lorene Williams of Helena; a brother-in-law, Arnell Somlar of Helena; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, 32 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and special family members Marie Thompson, Mary North and Loistyne R. Burrell.

Coon, born Oct. 13, 1916, in Washington, D.C., died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at Helena Regional Medical Center.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Marlboro Chapter Lodge (WOMT) No. 1350.
She leaves her husband Robert D. Coon of Lexa; two sons, Donald Moreland of Marvell and Earl Moreland of Lexa; three stepsons, Michael D. Coon, Kevin P. Coon and Stan R. Coon; a sister, Mildred Shuff; and eight grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren.
Her first husband, Harry WM Moreland, two brothers, William and Raymond, and a sister Hazel preceded Doris in death.

Swanigan was born Sept. 11, 1926, to the late Spencer and Mattie Johnson in Mississippi County, Ark. She died Feb. 1, 2003, at Helena Regional Medical Center after a long illness.
She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age, was an avid Bible reader and a prayer warrior. She was a member of the Salem M.B. Church. She graduated with the first class of Lake View High School in 1948. She was a housewife and a devoted mother. Her husband Gaspin Swanigan preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory four sons, Dwight Swanigan of Lake View, Jeffery Swanigan of Marianna, Victor Swanigan of Marshall, Mo., and Timothy Swanigan of Lake View; a sister, Spencer Ann Mansfield of Lake View; a daughter-in-law, Mammie Swanigan of Lake View; four brothers-in-law, Lawrence Mansfield Sr. of Lake View, Alfonso "Buster" Swanigan of Indianapolis, Ind., and Esau and Frank Wells of Wynne; a sister-in-law, Beulah "Sweetie" Smothers of St. Louis, Mo.; and 30 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and a special caregiver and friend, Patricia Rose of Lake View.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Pearl Page, 79, a homemaker, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, in Arlington, Tex.

Pearl Page was born June 24, 1923, in Amity, the daughter of Hob and Lucinda Adams. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church. She was an active Sunday School teacher, and taught Bible School classes. She was a dedicated Head Start substitute teacher and room-mother. Her greatest love was family, traveling, writing and poetry. She was Mama Pearl to her grandchildren and Mom to her children and all friends of the family. Pearl was preceded in death by her husband James Arlon Page.
She leaves daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie Jean Garrett of Amity, Anneta and Bobby Davis of Lexa, Sherri and Danny Lucio, and Vickie and Tim Hicks of Arlington, Texas; five brothers, Sam, Raymond, Herman, Franklin, and Fletcher Adams; two sisters, Verna Sue Anderson and Betty McNeil; nine grandchildren, Jim Garrett, John Garrett, Scott Garrett, Angie Jefferson, Chuck Davis, Kristina Lucio, Kayla Lucio, Amanda Hicks and Timothy David Hicks II; and 6 great-grandchildren.

DOYLE WILLIAMS
MOULTRIE, Ga. - Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, for Doyle Macon (Willie) Williams Jr., 80, of Moultrie.
Born Sept. 3, 1922, in Allen County, Ohio, Williams was the son of the late Georgia King Williams and Doyle Macon Williams Sr. He died at his home Nov. 10, 2002, of an apparent heart attack. Raised in Helena, Ark., in 1941 he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps, received pilot training and spent the rest of World War II primarily as a reconnaissance pilot flying P-38s. He spent several years after the war in the newly formed U.S. Air Force as a jet pilot. While in the Pacific Command, he was part of a flight team that set a world speed and endurance record.
LEWIS BOBO
Funeral services for Lewis Bobo, 57, of Lake View will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at the Phillips, Lee, Monroe and Desha District Center at Helena Crossing in Helena. The Rev. Andrew Gibson will officiate. Burial will be at the Morning Star Baptist Church cemetery in Elaine.

Bobo was born May 23, 1945, in Marks, Miss., to the late Willie and Lillie Mae Bobo.
He graduated from the Lake Village High School and attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. He received a degree in Vocational Agriculture and did his student teaching in Lake Village. He taught school in both the Dumas and North Little Rock School Systems. In 1989, he moved to the Lake View community, where he became a member of the C.V. White School staff.
He confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and was a member of the St. Paul AME Church, where he served as a trustee and a steward. He was a member of the NEA and AEA, Lake View City Council and many other organizations.
He died January 28, 2003, at the St. Vincent's Hospital North in Sherwood.
He leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Tresa Bobo and Lisa Bobo; a brother, Edward Warren; two aunts, Alazatha Thomas and Gerldine McCree; a life mate, Dorothy Love, and her children, Eddie, Bruce, Walter, Perry, Terry, Undra, Dorothy and Debra; and a host of cousins and friends.
Three sisters, Maggie, Alberta, and Beatrice, preceded him in death.

BERTHA COOKE
Funeral services for Bertha Lee Cooke, 61, of Davenport, Iowa, formerly of Helena will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at the Phillips, Lee, Monroe and Desha District Center at Helena Crossing. The Rev. Roger Kirk Jr., will officiate. Burial will be in the First Baptist Church cemetery in Barton.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the chapel of Brown's Home For Funerals.
She was born April 15, 1941, in Barton, the daughter of the late Sidney and Carrie Norvell.
She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age under the leadership of the Rev. T.R. Redmond at First Baptist Church in Barton. She later moved to Helena, where she joined the Galilee Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. P.L. Perkins and for over 30 years was instrumental in the music worship of the church. She served as president of the choir, served as church treasurer and was a member of the Eastern Star.
She formed the Cooke Family, a renowned gospel group, and she also sang with the Gospel Two and with Georgia B. Williams. She was an activist in the community, fighting for school rights.
Later in life she moved to Davenport, Iowa, where she united with Third Missionary Baptist Church. She served as prayer meeting coordinator and sang in the choir. Bertha married
Louis Charles Newman and to their union five children were born, Hazel Carter, Mary Smith, Joe Newman, Linda and Willie Bailey, Lorant and Joseph Tucker.
Her second marriage to James Cooke produced 11 children, two of whom preceded her in death. Her other survivors include Freddie James Cooke and wife Tavisha, Adolph Cooke, Theodore Cooke, Michael Cooke and wife Juanita, Ula and Roosevelt Miller, James Cooke, Latisha Cooke, Dwight Cooke, and Kevin and Olympia Cooke of Davenport, Iowa; three sisters, Julia McNeal, Dorothy James of Davenport, Catherine and Byron Poole of St. Paul, Minn.; two brothers, Forrest and Lois Norvell of Chicago, Ill., and Raymond Norvell of Barton; 50 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Donald Ray Cooke and Thomas Lee Cooke preceded her in death.

MICHEAL HOWARD

Howard was born April 19, 1957, to Willie and Serether Howard, who preceded him in death.
He confessed a hope in Christ in the spring of 2002 at the Morning Star Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. George. He remained a member of Morning Star Church until his death.
He died Jan. 27, 2003, at the home of his sister, Oberrie Saife, in Elaine.
He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Shawanda Howard and Deidra Howard of Elaine; two sons, Michael Howard Jr. and wife Sabrina of Elaine, and Darrell Howard of Jacksonville; two step- children, Catrecia Scaife and Andre Campbell of West Helena; two sisters, Bernice Howard and Oberrie Scaife of Elaine; five brothers and their families, Aaron and Jessie Howard of Chicago, Ill., Johnnie Howard of Tunica, Miss., Willie and Carolyn Howard, Theaurty Howard and Billy Howard of Elaine; 14 grandchildren and a special friend, Pearl of Tunica, Miss., and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
