BENTON HARBOR, Mich. - Wash Ross, 86 of Benton Harbor, Mich., formerly of Lambrook died Tuesday, May 10, 2003 at his home, after a courageous battle with an illness.
Ross was born Nov. 11, 1916, in St. Joseph, La., to the late Enus and Rachael Ross. He later moved to Arkansas. Ross resided in many cities in Arkansas before finally settling in Lambrook. He was a retired owner and operator of an agricultural business. He raised many types of grain and cattle. He was a member of the Future Farmers of America and was a member of the Brooks Chapel M.B. Church in Lambrook, under the leadership of Elder A. James. He served as a deacon for nearly 50 years. He was a member of the Faithful Harmonizers Quartet. In August 2002 he moved to Benton Harbor, Mich. He became a Watch-Care member of the Second Baptist M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev. K Gavin. Ross resided with his daughter and son-in-law.
He leaves his wife of 45 years, Florida Ross; nine sons, Willie and Lily Ross of South Holland, Ill., Bobby Ross of Los Angeles, Calif., Charlie Clark and John Clark of Saginaw, Mich., Johnny and Cheryl Ross of Raywood, Texas, Felix Ross of Detroit, Mich., Kenneth Ross of Denver, Colo., James and Odessa Ross of San Antonio, Texas, Henry Ross of Friars Point, Miss., twelve daughters, Alie Jackson of Helena, Charlene Powell of Saginaw, Mich., Matley and Willie Ewing of Victorville, Calif., Sherline and Melvin Gum of Lake View, Bobbie Holmes of Los Angeles, Calif., Alma and Earnest Hinton of Los Angeles, Calif., Rose Grier and Donna Ross of Helena, Sharon and Jeffrey Johnson of Oakland, Calif., Mary Broadus of Lambrook, Marilyn and Dana Miller and Nina Ross of Benton Harbor, Mich., two sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law; 59 grandchildren; 81 great grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Ross was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Rosemary Goodwine; a son Wash Ross Jr., two sisters, Celia Hampton and Ernestine Ross; two brothers, Enus Ross Jr. and Jake Ross.
Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, June 14, 2003 at Second Baptist M.B. Church, 600 Donald Atkins Drive in Benton Harbor. Burial will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 17 at the Morning Star M.B. Church cemetery in Elaine

NEWELL "BUNK" BROWN
Newell "Bunk" Brown, 76, of West Helena, born on October 18, 1926 in Pritchard, Miss. to Newell Sidney Brown Sr. and Mary Jackson, died on June 12, 2003, at the Helena Regional Medical Center.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home.
He was a Machinist at the Chicago Mill in Chicago, Ill.
His son James "Bugs" Brown preceded him in death.
He leaves his wife Wanda Watts Brown of West Helena, two daughters Linda Cavette and Katherine Terry both of West Helena, a sister Mary Taylor of Searcy, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday June 14, at Roller Citizens Funeral Home. The Reverend Audie Richardson will officiate. Burial will be at Odd Fellows cemetery with Pallbearers Glen Terry, Larry Ferris, Jimmy Ferris, Bobby Cavette, Bobby Cavette Jr. and Jonathon Terry.

RIENZI, Miss. - Funeral services for Sue Farris Rutledge, 64, of Rienzi, Miss., will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at the Henry cemetery in Corinth.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of Memorial Funeral Home in Corinth, Miss.
She was a native of Phillips County, a 1957 graduate of Barton High School, member of the Tate Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
She leaves her husband, Don Rutledge of Rienzi, Miss., two daughters, Karen McKinley of Germantown, Tenn., and Laura Drury of Canton, New York; three stepdaughters, Melinda Hamlin and Deborah Jackson of Rienzi and Denise Tweddle of Corinth, Miss., a brother Rueben Taylor of Denver, Colo., and 11 grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were former husbands Roger Wood of West Helena and Dr. T.V. Farris of Germantown, Tenn., and her parents Rueben and Marguerite Taylor of Poplar Grove.

NORTH LITTLE ROCK - Marshall Percell "Turk" Williams, Jr., 39, of North Little Rock, who was well known in this area, died June 3, 2003 after fighting a valiant battle with a rare form of Leukemia.
A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at the Awareness Center International, 900 S Pine St., Little Rock, (formerly known as Trumpet in Zion). The Rev. Harry Moore and the Rev. Steve Allen will officiate.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. this evening at the Premier Funeral Home, 1518 Battery St. in Little Rock. Burial will be in a Little Rock cemetery.
Williams, born Dec. 10, 1963, confessed and received Christ on Sept. 15, 2002, and attended New Jerusalem Church.
He leaves his father, Marshall Percell Williams Sr., and wife Thelma; his mother, Gladys Burgess and husband Preston of Bridgeport, Conn., his fianc e, Terry Workman of North Little Rock; two sons, Javon Williams and Desmond Workman of North Little Rock; a daughter, Wendy Williams of Norwalk, Conn., a sister, Constance Homes of Bridgeport, Conn., three brothers, Daniel Burgess, Jeffrey Turnage and Garrie Williams all of Bridgeport, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends and and an aunt, Almeta Bivens. A brother Horace "Jock" Williams preceded him in death.
He was a member of the King David Masonic Lodge No. 6, A.F. & A.M. of Conway, and head coach of the Arkansas Rockets 15-17 year old basketball team.
A memorial fund has been established in his name at the Regions Bank in Little Rock.

MARGARET KING
Funeral services for Margaret Wade King, 75, of Marvell were held Sunday, June 8, 2003 at the Trenton Baptist Church. Bro. Robert Arther and Bro. David Helwig officiated. Burial was at the Cypert cemetery in the Cypert Community.
King, born Feb. 29, 1928, at Trenton, died June 6, 2003, at the DeWitt Hospital.
She was a retired cafeteria worker from the Marvell Pubic Schools and was a member of the Trenton Baptist Church. She was an avid hunter and fisherman.
She leaves her husband of 42 years, Fred King of Marvell; a daughter, Linda Brown of Clarksdale, Miss., two sons Donnie Adams and Danny Adams of Lonoke; a brother, Tommy Wade of St. Charles; a sister, Minnie Bullington of Tumble Shoals; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Lawrence and Callie Wade, and two brothers Jack Wade and Jim Wade.
Pallbearers were David Wade, Glen Kale, Mike Crisp, Richard Turner, Chris Adams, and Donnie Adams Jr. Honorary pallbearers were: Don Grider, Freddy Williams, Tommy Wade Jr., Bobby Wade, Tommy Ray Wade, Jackie Wade and Jimmy Wade.

Pearson, born Feb. 2, 1932, to Arlean Carr and Tom Canady, died March 29, 2003, at her home in the Modoc community near Elaine.
She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age in Clover Hill, Miss. She later moved to Modoc and joined the Pilgrim Guide M.B. Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. E.D. Nix. She was the mother to 12 children. She was employed for many years as a farm worker, after retirement she became a housewife, was a gardener and loved growing flowers. She enjoyed fishing with her two grandsons and served as the president of the usher board and served as a church mother at Pilgrim Guide Church. She was also a faithful member of the Women's Community Choir.
Her mother, father, three sisters, three brothers, two daughters and two sons preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Morris Lee Pearson; four sons and their families, Sampon Hickey of Chicago, Ill., Alvin and Lesha Hickey of Little Rock, Calvin and Pearl Hickey of Forrest City and Ben Tye III of Helena; four daughters and their families, Jessie and Robert Simpson and Ethel Lee Hickey of Battle Creek, Mich., Ora and Arthur Scaife of Elaine, Mary Ann and Manuel Hart of Elaine; a sister, Addie B. Griffin of Helena; two special grandsons, Epluribus D. Thurman and Dakendrick M. Scaife; 28 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; a special daughter-in-law, Mattie Bee Hickey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Her first husband, J.T. Young, son Rickey Young and her second husband, Robert D. Williams, preceded her in death.

Campbell, born Aug. 5, 1932, to Elbert and Rebecca Johnson, died March 31, 2003, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis Tenn.
She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and was a member of the Old Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church under the direction of Rev. C.B. Bingham.
She was united in marriage to James C. Campbell on July 23, 1949, and eleven children were born to their union.
She leaves a devoted ex-husband, James C. Campbell of West Helena; a sister, Earnestine Johnson of West Helena; a brother, Lyndon Johnson of Snow Lake; five daughters, Dorothy Miller of Lawton, Okla., Mary McWright and Mary A. Campbell of Memphis, Tenn., Rebecca Massenburg of Leavenworth, Kan., Christine Campbell Baker of Lawton, Okla., and Sharon Bowman of Memphis; four sons, David Campbell of Pine Bluff, James Campbell of Tacoma, Wash., Lionel Campbell of Harlingen, Texas, and Dennis Campbell of Decatur, Ga.; and 19 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
One son, Jerry Campbell, preceded her in death.

WILLIAM P. SIMPSON
William P. Simpson, 69, a railroad employee of West Helena, died Thursday, April 3, 2003.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2003, at the chapel of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in Marianna.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Roller-Citizens in Marianna with Burial in the LaGrange cemetery.
WILSON DEESE
Wilson Charles Deese, 84, of Little Rock, died April 4, 2003. Born June 2, 1918, at Wattensaw, Lonoke County, Ark., he was the son of Bill and Susie (Flynt) Deese.
He was a graduate of Ouachita Baptist University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary; he was also a member of the board of trustees for both institutions. He served as pastor of the First Baptist Church of Cabot, the West Helena Baptist Church, and was a former employee of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention.
He served as chaplain during World War II in the Pacific and retired as a colonel with the Arkansas National Guard. He was also a chaplain with Baptist Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Jacks Deese, his parents, a brother, C.W. Deese, and a sister, Odah Roush. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Lane and Bob Phelps of Maumelle, Linda and Dennis Pate of Mesquite, Texas, and Charla and Bobby Cheatwood of Little Rock; a brother, Richard Deese of Auburn, Ala.; three step-brothers, Alvin Flynt of Bentonville, Clayton Flynt of Camden, and William Flynt of Springdale; a step-sister, Emma Bowie of Clarksville; seven grandchildren, Ashley Phelps, Megan Phelps Granberry, Shelley Pate, Denny Pate, Lance Pate, Stacy Cheatwood Gove, and Kimmy Cheatwood; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 7, 2003, at Lakeshore Drive Baptist Church, 21 Lakeshore Drive, Little Rock. The Rev. Ed McDonald officiated, and graveside services were held today at Sparkman cemetery in Sparkman.
