RONNIE GENE SMITH

Graveside services for Ronnie Gene Smith, 50, of Barton will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Memorial Park in Barton. The Rev. Gary Steiner will officiate.

Smith, born Sept. 3, 1953, in Helena, died Sept. 11, 2003 in Barton.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. this evening at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home.

He was a member of the Arkansas Disabled Sportsmen's Association

Smith leaves his mother Frances Smith of Barton; two brothers, Ricky Smith and Reggie Smith of Barton; two nieces Candy Smith and Ashley Smith of Barton; his grandmother Molly Davis of Helena.

His father Gene Smith preceded him in death.

Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Disabled Sportsmen's Association.

Roller-Citizens Funeral Home will direct services.

VEOLA JEFFERSON

Funeral services for Veola Jefferson 72, of West Helena will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003 at the Gumwood Baptist Church near Elaine. The Rev. Jerome Turner will officiate. Burial will be at First Baptist Church cemetery in Elaine.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the chapel of Brown's Home for Funerals in West Helena.

Jefferson, born Sept. 1, 1931, to the late Elizabeth Jefferson and George Williams in Gould, died Sept. 7, 2003, at Baptist East Memorial Hospital in Memphis. She moved to Ratio with her family in 1939 and in 1944 she married Thomas Lee Jefferson.

She confessed a hope in Christ at the Gumwood Baptist Church in 1951 under the leadership of Rev. Harris.

She leaves to cherish her memory, four sons Thomas Jefferson of Fort Wayne, Ind., Preston and Tiny Jefferson, Kenny McCraney, and Rickey McCraney all of Ratio; five daughters, Grace and Willie B. Otey, Theresa Young both of West Helena, Addie and Ira Ester of Dearfield, Bernice and Roy Jones of Oxford, Miss., and Barbara Turner of Elaine; a sister, Geneva Duncan, two cousins; 45 grandchildren, sixth four great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Her husband preceded her in death as did two sons Melvin Jefferson and Hosea Jefferson.

Brown's Home for Funerals will direct services.

BOBBY HARRIS

Funeral services for Bobby Harris Jr., 70, of Marianna will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church 2787 State Route 243 South of Marianna. The Rev. Roosevelt Bowman will officiate.

Harris, born Nov. 25, 1932 to the late Bobbie and Katie B. Harris, died Sept. 5, 2003. He was married to the late Erma Lee Bowman Harris and two children were born to their union.

He leaves two sons Bobby L. Harris III and Albert R. Harris; a brother, Tommy Lee Harris Sr., of Marianna; seven sisters, Marie Coleman, Hattie Little, Polly C. Moore, Geraldine Rucker, Susan Banks, Christine Vinson, and Katie Mae Harris, six grandchildren an two great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law Annie Harris; three brothers-in-law Fred Coleman, Eddie Moore and Carl Vinton, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friend Annie Bell Watson.

Jackson and Highley Funeral Home will direct services.

BEN I. BECKER

Funeral Services for Ben I. Becker, 89, of Helena will be held at 10 a.m. Monday September 15, 2003, at Graveside Maple Hill cemetery in Helena. The Rev. Rodger Hooker will officiate. Burial will be at Maple Hill cemetery in Helena.

Becker, born June 23, 1914, in Little Rock, died September 23, 2003, in Cabot. He was a retired insurance salesman.

He leaves a son, Ken Becker; a daughter-in-law, Dianne Becker, both of Cabot; a granddaughter, Pam Elrod of Cabot; a grandson , Raymond Becker, of Cabot; and two great grandsons, Tanner Elrod and Hunter Becker, both of Cabot.

His wife, Lucyle Becker proceeds him in death.

Memorials may be made to Temple Bethel in Helena.

LOTTIE GRIFFIN

Funeral services for Lottie Mildred Griffin, 97, of Cave City will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2003, at the Lexa United Methodist Church in Lexa. The Rev. Gary Wallace and the Rev James Wilson will officiate. Burial will be at Central cemetery in Lexa.

Griffin, born November 28, 1905, in Butler County, Missouri, died September 14, 2003, in Cave City. She was a homemaker.

She leaves one son, Leo Lloyd Griffin of Batesville; one daughter, Iva Evon Shelby of Columbus , Mississippi; nine grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.

Her husband, Otto Mark Griffin; her parents; and two sons, Horace and Johnny Griffin, proceed her in death.

Pallbearers will be Tracey Shelby, David Atkins, Ken Roberts, Richard Wiscomb, Nathan Griffin, and Mark Patrick.

Roller-Citizens Funeral Home of West Helena will direct services.

KIP SHELBY

Funeral Services for Kip Carlos Shelby, 37, of Warren will be held at 2 p.m., Monday September 15, 2003, at Oakland cemetery, in Warren.

Shelby, born October 5, 1965, in Pine Bluff, died September 13, 2003 in Prescott. He was a certified nursing assistant.

He leaves a father, Jerry Shelby of Pine Bluff; and two sisters, Mitzy Millerd of Warren and Tammy Lane of Pine Bluff.

His mother, Elizabeth Ann Lane, proceeds him in death.

Frazer's Funeral Home will direct service.

ALFRED PETE KINES SR.

Funeral services for Alfred Pete Kines Sr., 60, of West Helena will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at the Miracle Temple Church of Deliverance in West Helena. Elder James Hicks will officiate. Burial will be in the Jackson Memorial cemetery in Lexa.

Kines, born July 31, 1943 in poplar Grove, died Sept. 16, 2003 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. He was baptized at Miracle Temple of deliverance where he continued worship. He was famous for his portrayal of others, his infectious smile and his undying trust and faith in the people who loved him. He attended M.M. Tate public school in Marvell.

He leaves a son, Alfred Kines Jr.; a granddaughter, Sequloyah Kines both of West Helena; three sisters, Geneva K. Brewer of Barton, Izola Sylar of Rochester, Gloria J. Nelson; brothers, Albert Nelson of Syracuse, N.Y., Fiance Mae Francis Powell and family of Rondo; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be tonight from 6-8 p.m. in the chapel of Brown's Home for Funerals.

Brown's Home for Funerals will direct services.

ROBERTA LADEAN MOONEY

Funeral services for Roberta Ladean Mooney, 61, of West Helena will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at Smalley cemetery in Connells Point.

Mooney, boarn Dec. 14, 1941 in Eufaula, Ok., died Thursday, September 18, 2003 in West Helena.

She leaves her husband, Jack Mooney of West Helena; two daughters, Toni Rincon of West Helena and Tina green of Tunica, Ms.; two sons, Dewayne Smalley of Norman and Shawn Smalley of West Helena; two brothers, Po Jackson of West Helena and Roger Jackson of Norman; two sisters Joyce Johnson of De Valls Bluff and Debbie Walker of Norman, eleven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

One brother, Gary Jackson proceeds her in death.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. tonight at Bob Neal & Sons Brickell Funeral Home in Marvell.

SMITH EVANS

Funeral services for Smith Evans, 93, will held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003 at the Christian Stone Baptist Church in Elaine. The Rev. Curtis James will officiate. Burial will be in the Morning Star Baptist Church cemetery in Elaine.

Evans died Sept. 11, 2003 at Crestpark Skilled Nursing Home.

He leaves one son; Smith Evans Jr.; one nephew, Morris Pearson; one sister, Annie Jones, and a host of grandchildren and friends.

Jackson Highley Funeral Home will direct services.

HUBERT BURK

Funeral services for Hubert Burk, 91, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003 at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Mike Shelley will officiate.

Burk, born on Dec. 5, 1911, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2003. Burk worked for the Phillips County Road Department and belonged to Harmony Baptist Church.

He leaves two daughters; Helen Whitby of West Helena and Myrtis Duffel of Marvell; two sons, Buddy Burk of West Helena and Charles Burk of West Helena, 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Saturday, Sept. 20 from 6-7:30 p.m.

RUBY GIBSON

Funeral services for Ruby Bridges Gibson, 72, of Holly Grove will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003 at the chapel of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Helena. The Rev. Rodger Hooker will officiate. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park in Barton.

Gibson, born April 20, 1931, in Sherrill, died Sept. 9, 2003, in Monticello. She was a homemaker.

She leaves five sisters, Norma Strawn of Collierville, Tenn., Helen Cherry of Hot Springs, Shirley Dye, Gladys Corley and Linda Bridges of Monticello; a son-in-law Jerry Richardson of Lexa; two grandsons Shane Richardson and Jeremy Richardson of Lexa; a granddaughter Aaron Swafford of Ward and two great-grandchildren.

Her husband William Hamilton Gibson III and a daughter Rena Gibson Richardson preceded her in death.

Pallbearers will be Michael Strawn, Mark Corley, Shane Richardson, Jeremy Richardson, Brian Brewer and Terry Ferebee.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis.

Roller-Citizens Funeral Home will direct services.
