Funeral services for Josephine Culp Griffin, 75, of Helena will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 13, 2004 at the Faith Outreach Church on Springdale Road in Helena. The Rev. Harold Danley and the Rev. Jim Harrison will officiate. Burial will be at Cypert cemetery in the Cypert Community.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at 105 Valley Drive in Helena.
Griffin, born July 26, 1928 in Marvell to Bogan Culp and Hetty Furr Culp, died June 11, 2004 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.
She was a homemaker, a member of Faith Outreach Church and had been a volunteer at Helena Regional Medical Center for 40 years. She was a beloved Christian woman with deep faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. She prayed for many in the community and had a deep love for all.
She leaves her husband Brooks Griffin of Elaine; a daughter Frances Jo Vondran and husband Danny of West Helena; a son, David Brooks Griffin and wife, Roxie of Ratio; a sister Barbara Culp Miller and husband Van of Holly Grove; grandson David Paul Hafer and wife, Amy of Helena; granddaughter Brooke Griffin Christine and husband Bart of West Helena, granddaughter Lisa Hafer Robbins and husband Blake of Helena; grandson Tyler Mathis Griffin of Ratio and granddaughter Carlie Hampton Griffin of Ratio; great-grandchildren, William Griffin Christine, Carson Lueken Roberts, Bay Brooks Christine, Pearson Paul Hafer and Evy Bell Hafer.
Her parents Bogan and Hetty Culp, a brother Buford Culp and a sister Dorothy Polk preceded her in death.
Pallbearers will be Bart Christine, Tyler Griffin, Gary Inman, Van Miller, Blake Robbins and David Paul Hafer.
Memorials may be made to Faith Outreach Church, Elaine Baptist Church or Delta Fellowship Church.

Graveside services for William Bruce Robertson, 50, of Cabot, formerly of West Helena will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 2004 at Sunset Memorial Park at Barton. The Rev. Rodger Hooker will officiate.
Robertson, born Jan. 26, 1954 in Osceola, died May 20, 2004 at his home in Cabot. He was a Welder and a U.S. Army Veteran.
He leaves his wife Stephanie Hill Robertson of Cabot; two sons Jake and Chris Robertson of Cabot; his parents J.W. and Betty Robertson of West Helena; two brothers, Jerry Robertson and wife Betty of West Helena and Keith Robertson and wife Mickey of Barton and several nieces and nephews.

JOHN P. GAROFAS
John Paul Garofas, 74, of West Helena died Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at Helena Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church in Helena at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 2004. The Rev. Evelyn Hornaday will officiate. Burial will be at Maple Hill cemetery in Helena
Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home.
Garofas was born to Paul and Soteria Garofas on Oct. 3, 1929 in Helena. He graduated from Helena High School and served in the United States Army and fought in the Korean Conflict. He owned and operated the Busy Bee Caf on Cherry Street in Helena until 1963 when he closed the business and attended Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. He graduated with a BSE Degree and became a member of the Central High School faculty in West Helena. Garofas retired from teaching in 1989. He was a life member of the American Legion and the DAV. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. He was of the Greek Orthodox faith but attended St.John's Episcopal Church most of his life.
His wife, Pamela Burnett Garofas of West Helena; a brother Manuel Garofas of Helena; his daughters, Kara Elizabeth Garofas of New Orleans, La., and Paula Katherine "Kate" Garofas of Jonesboro survive him.
His parents and a very special sister, Carrie Garofas, preceded him in death.
There will be a reception following the services at St. John's Episcopal Church.
Memorials may be made to the Helena-West Helena American Cancer Society's Relay for Life or St. John's Episcopal Church in Helena.
Pallbearers will be Paul Grier, Bill Nash, Thomas Taylor, Alfred Helton, Gordon Cunningham, Mike Hardin, John Woodie, Larry Everhart and Theo Parham. Funeral services for Eddie Slaughter, 94, of Helena will be held at noon Saturday, May 22, 2004 at the Beautiful Zion Baptist Church in Helena. The Rev. Danny Robinson will officiate at the service. Burial will be at Magnolia cemetery in Helena.
Visitation will be from 5 until 6 p.m. today at the chapel of J.M. Calhoun Funeral Home, 230 Walnut St., in Helena.
Slaughter, was born Feb. 16, 1910, in Rondo one of seven children born to the late Mianna and James C. Slaughter. He died May 18, 2004 at the Cordova Rehabilitation Center in Cordova, Tenn.
He accepted Christ at an early age, under the leadership of Rev. Charlie Jones at the Blackfood Missionary Baptist Church in Lexa.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received an honorable discharge in 1945. He so often said "I was at the right place at the wrong time." He returned to Arkansas to be with his family following his military service. He was dedicated to his family and friends, well known and liked in the community.
When his health began to fail in 1992 he came to live with his niece Mattie Weaver in Helena and united with the Beautiful Zion M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev. Robinson.
He leaves to cherish his memories two nieces, Mattie Weaver of Helena and Bernice Johnson of Chicago, Ill., many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews and friends.
His parents and siblings preceded him in death.

Miller, born, April 14, 1926 to the late Ollie Gardner and Mary Banks in Watson, Ar., died April 30, 2004 at St. Vincent's Infirmary in Little Rock.
She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age. She married
the late James Miller and no children were born to their union. She spent most of her young life in Ft. Worth, Texas, before back to the Helena-West Helena area to be with family and friends.
Three brothers, Louis' Buddy" Gardner, Louis "L.T." Gray and Louis "Lucky" Gray; three sisters, Ollie Mae "Pig" Wheaton, Dorothy Jean "Boog" Blakley, and Queen Easter Gray preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory, seven sisters, Ruthie Mae Miller, Mary Miller, Mary Francis and Roy Lee Craig, of West Helena, Odessa Sperman of Oklahoma City, Ok. Dorothy Jackson of Pine Bluff, Jewel Davis of Gould, Maxine and Tobe Burnett, Travestine Davis of Dumas; four brothers, Bobby Gray of Chicago, Ill., Freddie Davis, and Horace Davis of Atlanta, Ga., and H.D. Harris of Dumas and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
