FARMER AND CATTLEMAN. HE WAS BORN JULY 13, 1923, NEAR QUITMAN
AND WAS 79 YEARS OF AGE. HE WAS THE SON OF THE LATE FRANK AND
DOVIE RUSHING MORTON.
HASSEL WAS A VETERAN OF WORLD WAR II, HAVING SERVED IN THE UNITED
STATES ARMY AIR CORPS. HE ESPECIALLY ENJOYED WORKING ON HIS CATTLE
FARM, AND HE WAS AN AVID READER.

Mr. Ernie T. Davis of Greers Ferry, Arkansas, passed away at his home on Tuesday, August 12, 2003. Born November 26, 1932, at Wilson, Arkansas, Mr. Davis was 70 years of age. He was the son of the late Joe Stanley and Birdie (Campbell) Davis. Mr. Davis was the owner of Powell Truck Line and former owner of the Narrows Marina. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Davis was a member of the West Side Baptist Church at Greers Ferry. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gaston Davis of Phoenix, Arizona, formerly of Wilson, Arkansas. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Jo (Germany) Davis of Greers Ferry, Arkansas two sons, Clay Davis and Michael Davis, both of Greers Ferry, Arkansas one daughter, Lisa Stracener and her husband, Bill, of Edgemont, Arkansas four grandchildren, Bill Stracener, Jr., Amy Davis Gurley, Chuckie Stracener, and Lindsey Davis Neasand two great grandchildren, Grace Ann Stracener and Garrett Gurley.Mr. Davis is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

James Jarrell Duncan, age 79, of Damascus, Arkansas, passed away at his home on Monday, March 15, 2004. Born at Bee Branch, Arkansas, on May 10, 1924, he was the son of the late W. A. and Ellie Mae Duncan. Mr. Duncan had been a resident of Damascus for twenty-five years. He was a retired farmer and employee of J & B Tire Company. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, O. W. Duncan, Robert Duncan, and Quinton Duncan; and by two sisters, Norma Faye Duncan, and Elza Edwards. Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Johnnie Mae Vaughan Duncan of Damascus, AR, four sons, Jerry Duncan and Danny Duncan, both of Damascus, AR, Sammy Duncan of Greenbrier, AR, and Randy Duncan of Conway, AR, two daughters, Linda Bartlett of Heber Springs, AR, and Paulette McCollum of Pangburn, AR, one brother, Junior Duncan of Greers Ferry, AR, two sisters, Ara Waldrop of Covington, Georgia, and Ima Faye Holliman of Quitman, AR, eight grandchildren, Dennis Bartlett, Alan Duncan, Heath Vaughan, Lonnie Duncan, Jeff Duncan, Shelly Gallaway, Kelly Duncan, and Kinsey Duncan nineteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Willie Laverne Berry, age 80, of Shirley, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2003, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born on December 19, 1922, at Shirley, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Charlie J. and Leona (Nixon) Huggins. Mrs. Berry was a lifetime resident of Shirley. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claudie Lee Berry, Sr., who passed away on October 6, 1997. Mrs. Berry was also preceded in death by four brother, Huey, C. J., George, and Homer Huggins, one sister, Lydia Crew, and one grandson, Alex Kirkendoll. Survivors include two sons, Claudie Berry, Jr. of Shirley, AR and Jimmy Berry of Fairfield Bay, AR four daughters, Rhonda Carlton, Lavern Bolden, and Gail Kirkendoll, all of Shirley, AR and Kathy Berry of Houston, Texas one sister, Betty Moss of Shirley, AR thirteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. Mrs. Emily Holland of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2003, at Beverly HealthCare in Heber Springs. Born at Shiloh, Arkansas, on June 13, 1920, Mrs. Holland was 83 years of age. She was the daughter of the late J. B. and Pearl (Williams) Babb. A resident of Cleburne County most of her life, Mrs. Holland was a homemaker and a member of the Assembly of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Holland, in 1992. She is survived by one sister, Lorene Timmins of Phoenix, Arizona and her nieces and nephews. Mrs. Holland is also survived by other relatives and many friends.

Born in Ida, Arkansas, on May 22, 1928, Mrs. Smith was 75 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Lincoln L. and Lizzie Beth (Dill) Towell. A lifetime resident of Cleburne County, Mrs. Smith was a retired cook for Lakeland Lodge. Her religious belief was General Baptist. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Leonard Towell, and one sister, Leona Lacy. Survivors include: her husband, Chester Smith of Ida, AR and her nieces and nephews, Shirley Southerland of Ida, AR; Sharon Phillips of Drasco, AR; Linda Matthews of Edgemont, AR; Leonard Towell of Benton, AR; and Lynn Towell of Heber Springs, AR. Fern Collins, born March 27, 1932 to the late Fred and Lula (Lacy) Deckard, passed away January 12, 2006 at her home in Ida at the age of 73. Mrs. Collins was a member of the Pleasant Ridge General Baptist Church. She was retired from Bosch Power tools and recently from Aromatique. She was a very devoted mother and grandmother; her greatest pleasures were her daughter, granddaughters, and great grandchildren. She also truly enjoyed reading, quilting, and cooking for family and friends. Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by her husband Edgar Collins, a great granddaughter Payton Sparkman, two sisters, and two brothers. Mrs. Collins is survived by one daughter Kathy White and husband Randy of Ida; two granddaughters Stephanie West and husband Travis of Drasco and Samantha Sparkman of Maumelle; two great grandchildren Abi Grace West and Graham West; two sisters Telsie Warren and Nelsie Gilpin, both of Ida; many other relatives and friends.

Allie Orpha (Brewer) Verser of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Friday, January 17, 2003, in Heber Springs. She was 96 years old.
Born at Lone Pine, Arkansas, on December 26, 1906, she was the daughter
of the late Harve and Babe (Grimes) Brewer.
Her belief was Church of Christ, and she was a homemaker and a lifetime
resident of Cleburne County. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Lewis Verser, four brothers, and one sister. She is survived by:
one son, Harold Verser and wife June Ellen Verser of Heber Springs,
one daughter, Etta Pearl Turney and husband J. E. Turney of Higden,
one sister, lila Waters of Greers Ferry, five grandchildren, and six great
grandchildren. Mrs. Verser is also survived by other relatives and her
many friends.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 18, 2003, from 6:00-9:00 P.M.

Mr. Loyd Hipp
Mr. Loyd Hipp of Prim, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, January 16,
2003, at White County Medical Center in Searcy, Arkansas. Born in
Cleburne County, Arkansas, on December 8, 1916, Mr. Hipp was 86
years of age. He was the son of the late Harvey D. and Rachel (Birdsong)
Hipp.
Mr. Hipp was a farmer and had been a resident of Cleburne County most
of his life. He enjoyed baseball and other sports, and hunting and fishing.
Mr. Hipp s religious belief was nondenominational. He is survived by:
his wife, Ruth Smith Hipp of Prim, AR; one son, Wendell Hipp and his
wife, Dana, of Prim, AR; two daughters, Norma Howard and her husband,
Gary, of Harrah, Oklahoma, and Ava Sandlin and her husband, William, of
Mercedes, Texas; one brother, Ray Hipp of Prim, AR; one sister, Mary
Kessinger of Quitman, AR; five grandchildren, Johnny Wilson and his
wife, Debbie, Gary Howard, Jr., Julie Howard Fry and her husband, Torn,
Preston Hipp and his wife, Tori, and Eric Hipp; and two great grandchildren.
