18, 1907 AND passed away AT BAPTIST HEALTH IN HEBER SPRINGS
ON MARCH 8, 2003 AT THE AGE OF 95 YEARS.
MRS. STARK WAS A MEMBER OF THE POST OAK BAPTIST CHURCH
UNTIL MOVING TO HEBER SPRINGS, WHERE SHE JOINED THE SOUTH-
SIDE BAPTIST CHURCH AND WAS A FAITHFUL MEMBER AND WORKER.
SHE WAS preceded in death BY HER HUSBAND OTTO W. STARK ON
OCTOBER 30, 1969. AN INFANT DAUGHTER, EVELYN MARIE STARK,
A VERY SPECIAL GRANDDAUGHTER MARSHA MURPHREE OLMSTEAD
TWO BROTHERS, OATHER BAILEY AND KENNETH BAILEY, A SISTER-
IN-LAW, KATIE BAILEY AND HER PARENTS.
SHE IS SURVIVED BY A DAUGHTER, CHARLSIE MURPHREE DuBOIS OF
HEBER SPRINGS, ONE GRANDDAUGHTER, SHARON MURPHREE FREMD
AND HUSBAND, TOM OF FREMONT, CALIFORNIA. GRANDCHILDREN

EDWARD E. SARTAIN, 87 YEARS OLD, DEPARTED THIS LIFE ON SATURDAY,
MARCH 8, 2003 IN LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS. HE WAS BORN ON JUNE 4,
1915 IN WOLF BAYOU, ARKANSAS , THE FIRST OF EIGHT CHILDREN BORN
TO ARCH AND BELLE (EUBANK) SARTAIN.
MR. SARTAIN RETIRED FROM MAY CONSTRUCTION COMPANY AS A
SUPERINTENDENT AFTER MANY YEARS OF WORK IN THIS FIELD. HE EN JOYED SPENDING TIME ON HIS FARM, RAISING CATTLE, FISHING AND
GARDENING. HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE FIRST GENERAL BAPTIST CHURCH
IN HEBER SPRINGS.
HE WAS PRECEEDED IN DEATH BY A SON, DONALD E. SARTAIN, FOUR
BROTHERS, RAY, WILLIE, FERRELL AND NORMAN, SISTER, PAULINE GARDNER,
AN INFANT SISTER AND HIS PARENTS, ARCH AND BELLE SARTAIN.
HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE OF SIXTY-FIVE YEARS, MARTHA (FOX)
SARTAIN, SON BILL SARTAIN OF OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA, DAUGHTER-
IN-LAW, MARLENE SARTAIN OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS, SISTER, MAXINE
McCARDELL OF WHITEHOUSE, TEXAS. FOUR GRANDCHILDREN, VALERIE

Mrs. Opal Mae Frakes
Mrs. Opal Mae Frakes of Searcy, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2003,
at Central Arkansas Hospital in Searcy. Born February 4, 1917, at Walnut Ridge,
Arkansas, Mrs. Frakes was 86 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Charlie
and Marzie (Lane) Young.
Mrs. Frakes was a retired beautician and homemaker, and she enjoyed painting and
fishing. She had been a resident of Arkansas most of her life. Mrs. Frakes was a member
of the Church of Christ.
She is survived by:
her husband of 65 years: Eldred C. Frakes of Searcy, AR,
two sons: Michael Frakes of Marianna, AR,
and Dennis Frakes of Seabrook, Texas,
two daughters: Nancy Allred of Sardis, Mississippi
and Patricia Traylor of Benton, AR
twelve grandchildren, one step-grandchild, twelve great grandchildren, and
two great, great grandchildren.
Mrs. Frakes is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 7, from 5:00-6:00 P.M. at Olmstead Funeral Home,
Inc. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 8, at 2:00 P.M. in the Higden Church
of Christ. Interment will follow in Shiloh Cross Roads cemetery. Pallbearers will be
her grandchildren: Austin Frakes, William Allred, Jr., Marshal Traylor, Paul Human,
Wade Human, and Camron Traylor. Honorary pallbearers will be James T. Allison, III,

Mr. James Thomas Chumley
Mr. James Thomas Chumley of Quitman, Arkansas, passed away at his home on
Tuesday, March 4, 2003. Born in Plano, Texas, on April 1, 1927, Mr. Chumley was
75 years of age. He was the son of the late Clint and Minnie Pearl (Simmons) Chumley.
Mr. Chumley was a former resident of Concord, California, and had lived at Quitman for
18 years. He was retired from the Carpenter s Union in Martinez, California, with
45 years of employment as a carpenter. Mr. Chumley was a veteran of World War II,
having served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the American Legion and
the VFW, and he was a 32nd degree Mason. Mr. Chumley was a member of the Palestine
Baptist Church at Pearson. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary
Poteet Vinson.
Survivors include:
his wife of 45 years: Lyda Earlene (Hill) Chumley of Quitman, AR,
his son and daughter-in-law: Gary and Pat Tapley of Higden, AR,
one sister: Marjorie Chumley Keith of Vacaville, CA,
one grandson: William Tapley of Greenbrier, AR,
one granddaughter: Jamie Plant of New Mexico,
two nieces and four nephews.
Mr. Chumley is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 5, from 5:00-6:00 P.M. at Olmstead Funeral
Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 6, at 10:00 A.M. in the
Palestine Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Ward officiating. Interment with military honors
will follow in the Pearson cemetery. Pallbearers will be Landy Thompson, David Green,
Nathan Green, Shawn Rea, Craig Hill, Freland Hill, Brock King, and Brook King.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Martin and Ward Baldridge.

Mrs. Veta Jo Crow
Mrs. Veta Jo Crow of Quitman, Arkansas, passed away at her home on Sunday,
March 2, 2003. Born in Formosa, Arkansas, on January 3, 1938, Mrs. Crow was 65 years
of age. She was the daughter of the late Miles Washington and Ruth (Cargile) Redwine.
Mrs. Crow had been a resident of Quitman since 1973. She was a homemaker and
enjoyed crocheting, gardening and flowers. She was a very active member of the
Rose Bud Assembly of God and The Church Alive at Conway. Mrs. Crow was preceded
in death by one son, Robert Miles Crow.
She is survived by:

and Harvey Lee Crow of Conway, AR
one daughter: Ruth Ladd of Springdale, AR

Funeral services for Mrs. Crow will be held Saturday, March 8, at 2:00 P.M. in the
Rose Bud Assembly of God Church with Rev. Doug McClure and Sheila Voyles
officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Hill cemetery at Formosa. Pallbearers
will be Jerry Rose, William Butler, Bill Voyles, Shane Parish, Prentiss Griffin, and

Mr. Floyd Begley
Mr. Floyd Begley of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Monday, March 3, 2003, at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born November 16, 1920, at St. Joe, Arkansas, Mr. Begley was 82 years of age. He was the son of the late Allen and Melvinna (Pruitt) Begley.
Mr. Begley was a resident of Heber Springs most of his life. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Army, and he was a member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Begley s religious belief was Assembly of God.
He is survived by:
his wife: Penny (Martin) Begley of Heber Springs, AR, one son: Tommy Begley of Heber Springs, AR, three brothers: Sam Begley and Monroe Begley, both of Heber Springs, AR, and Carl Begley of Woodstock, Illinois, one granddaughter: Cynthia Brown of Maumelle, AR, and three great grandchildren: Aaron, Caleb, and Sarah Brown. Mr. Begley is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 5, at Qlmstead Funeral Home, Inc. from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 6, at 2:00 P.M. in the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. Mr. Val Benson Moore
Mr. Val Benson Moore of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, March 2,
2003, at the Central Arkansas Hospital in Searcy, Arkansas. Born in McLeansboro,
Illinois, on August 29, 1923, Mr. Moore was 79 years of age. He was the son of the late
Alonzo and Hazel Fern (Hale) Moore.
On February 6, 1943, Mr. Moore married
the former Eleanor Gammon in Salem, Illinois.
During World War II, he served as a sergeant in the 13th Air Force 69th Bomb Squadron
with the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. Mr. Moore was a 1950 graduate of the University of
Illinois. He retired from Agrico Chemical Company of Tulsa, Oklahoma, as a District
Manager of Sales with 35 years of employment with the Company. Mr. Moore was a
former resident of Tulsa, Oklahoma, having lived there for ten years, and of Iowa for 20
years. He and his wife had been residents of Heber Springs for 15 years. He was a
Mason and a member of the Prudence Masonic Lodge #205 in Algona, Iowa.
Mr. Moore was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Heber Springs.
Survivors include:
his wife of 60 years: Eleanor Moore of Heber Springs, AR
three sons: Andy Moore of Atlantic, Iowa
Marty Moore of Cedarburg, Wisconsin
and Ken Moore of Tulsa, Oklahoma
four grandchildren: Derek, Whitney, Jason, and Jeff
and two great grandchildren: Kelsey and Kaitlyn.

Home. Funeral services with Masonic rites will be held Wednesday, March 5, at
11:00 A.M. in the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. John Miles officiating. Graveside services
and interment will be held Thursday, March 6, at 1:00 P.M. at the Odd Fellows cemetery in McLeansboro, Illinois. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.
Mrs. Illa Mae Waters
Mrs. Illa Mae Waters of Greers Ferry, Arkansas, passed away Friday, February 28, 2003,
at Beverly HealthCare in Heber Springs, Arkansas. Born in Cleburne County, Arkansas,
on February 25, 1915, Mrs. Waters was 88 years of age. She was the daughter of the late
Harve and Lucetta Ann Babe (Grimes) Brewer.
Mrs. Waters was a homemaker and a lifetime resident of Cleburne County. She was a
member of Lone Star Baptist Church. Her husband Rob Waters preceded her in death
on April 7, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her sister Barbara Bonner.
Survivors include:

five grandchildren: Reta Heigle, Judy Edwards, Janet Knapp, Teresa Reynolds, and
Michelle Bonner
five great grandchildren: Stephanie Whillock, Robin Wood, Micah Edwards, Elania
