Kenneth Harlan of Heber Springs, Arkansas went home to be with the Lord on March 28, 2003. Born August 14, 1924 in Shiloh, Arkansas he was 78 years of age. He was the son of the late Bynum C. and Edna Harlan.
He was a lifelong resident of Cleburne County, Arkansas. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from the Arkansas National Guard and the Arkansas State Forestry Commission. Kenneth loved fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Glover Harlan, of 56 years

one step-brother; Kenneth Swigart of Fayetteville
four grandchildren; Nicole Coffelt of Centerton, Chris Haney of Tulsa, Oklahoma,
Melanie Pruett of Greenbrier and Kyle Stevenson of Greenbrier
three great-grandchildren; Blake Coffelt Bailey Coffelt and Arlie Pruett
three step-grandchildren; Angie Steed of Bigelow, and Joe & Charles Hurley of Clinton
three step-great-grandchildren; Brandon Boyce, Korey Steed and Adrian Steed.
Mr. Harlan is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, March 30th from 6:00PM to 8:00 PM and funeral services will be Monday, March 31st in the Olmstead Chapel at 2:00 PM with Rev. Roger Harlan officiating. Pallbearers are Tatum Bittle, Dewayne Gay, Sunny Cagil, Billy Wayde, John Snow and Danny West. Burial will be in the Heber Springs cemetery.

Mrs. Lela McLehaney
Mrs. Lela McLehaney of Concord, Arkansas passed away at her home on Friday, March 28, 2003. Born in Higden, Arkansas on September 7, 1909 Mrs. McLehaney was 93 years of age. She was the daughter of the late George & Margaret (Hill) Turney.
Mrs. McLehaney had been a resident of Cleburne County all of her life.
Mrs. McLehaney was a homemaker and a loving mother. Her religious belief was in the Church of God.
Survivors include:
her daughter: Mary Lois Sutera of Concord, Arkansas
and her great-granddaughter: Jeniffer Endlich of Houston, Texas
Mrs. McLehaney is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday afternoon form 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM
Services will be held Monday, March 31, 2003 at 10:30 AM at the Higden McLehaney cemetery, in Higden, Arkansas.

Ruby M. Glosser the daughter of Curtis and Blanche
Davis French was born in Kokomo, Indiana on June 12, 1922

Dr. James T. Rhyne
Dr. James T. Rhyne, 89, retired Colonel and Pediatrician died Saturday, March 29. Born in Corning, AR, he began his medical career in 1941 and after serving in the Army, opened a clinic in Pine Bluff in 1948. A voracious reader, gourmet chef and traveler, he loved to race cars, work crossword puzzles and research genealogy. He understood and loved children and they felt the same. Upon retiring in 1979, he moved to Heber Springs. He remained active in the medical profession by conducting Well-Baby clinics through the Department of Health across North Central Arkansas. Very active in St. Francis Episcopal Church, he served as Doc for several summers at Camp Mitchell. He is survived by one sister, Margina Frazier of Honolulu, Hawaii, son, Jimmy Rhyne and wife Dana Barsi of Los Gatos, California; and two daughters, Susan and husband Harry Moore of Heber Springs, and Margina Rhyne and husband Allan Weidner of Bishop, California; and their mother, Norma Abernathy Rhyne of Heber Springs; six grandchildren and grandchildren-in-laws, Amy and husband Joe Stockton of Fayetteville, Leslie and husband Rob Dottori of Toronto, Canada, and Daniel, Rachel, Benjamin and Nicholas Barsi-Rhyne of Los Gatos, California; two great-grandchildren, Christopher Stockton and Taylor Dottori; and numerous nieces and nephews. He had no enemies and was loved by all, including a host of friends. Memorial service is 1:00 PM Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at St. Francis in Heber Springs. In lieu of flowers, memorials made to Arkansas Chi1dren s Hospital or St. Francis Episcopal Church would be appreciated.

Mrs. Geneva N. Liles Newberry
Mrs. Geneva N. Liles Newberry of Tumbling Shoals, Arkansas, passed away Monday, March 31, 2003, at her home. Born in Drasco, Arkansas, on May 30, 1926, Mrs. Newberry was 76 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Sherman and Bertha (Martin) Liles.
Mrs. Newberry was a lifetime resident of Cleburne County. She was a retired coat factory employee and a homemaker. Mrs. Newberry was a charter member of the Drasco General Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Therrill Shelby Newberry, on September 24, 1992.
Survivors include:
two sons: Zendle Seymore of Holland, Michigan and Larry Seymore of Tumbling Shoals, Arkansas one daughter: Judy Allender of Heber Springs, Arkansas six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mrs. Dorothy Maurine Hannah of Rose Bud, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday,
April 1, 2003, at the Central Arkansas Hospital in Searcy, Arkansas. Born in
Mexia, Texas, on September 16, 1922, Mrs. Hannah was 80 years of age. She
was the daughter of the late Arthur S. and Lillie E. (McCoy) Dewey.
Mrs. Hannah was a homemaker and a member of the Friendship Freewill Baptist
Church.
She is survived by:

Carolyn Sue Pierce
Carolyn Sue Pierce of Quitman, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2003,
at the Central Arkansas Hospital in Searcy, Arkansas. Born in Heber Springs,
Arkansas, on April 23, 1943, Sue was 59 years of age. She was the daughter of
the late Edward and Letha (Hensley) Pierce.
Sue was a resident of Cleburne County most of her life and was retired from Baptist
Health Medical Center as a dietician. Her religious belief was Baptist, and she
attended Miller Point Baptist Church.
She is survived by:
one brother: Larry Pierce and his wife, Sherry, of Quitman, AR
and her nieces and nephew: Edward, Cory, and Allison.
Sue is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Marion Jaquline Jackie Newman of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Sunday,
April 6, 2003. Born in Searcy, Arkansas, on September 22, 1939, Mrs. Newman was
63 years of age. She was the daughter of the late James and Rachel (Watson) Pawlowski.
Mrs. Newman was a homemaker and had been a resident of Heber Springs for 28 years.
She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Mrs. Louise Cothren
Mrs. Louise Cothren of Wichita, Kansas, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2003, at the
Cameo Care Center in Wichita. Born in Prim, Arkansas, on March 8, 1925, Mrs. Cothren
was 78 years of age. She was the daughter of the late John P. and Ruth (Dollar) Hearst.
Mrs. Cothren was a former resident of Cleburne County where she had taught school for
two years. She had been a resident of Kansas since 1952. She was a homemaker and
mother who loved her children and devoted her life to them. Mrs. Cothren enjoyed
history and working in her flower garden. She was a member of Planeview Community
Church and its Mary Ruth Society in Wichita, Kansas. Her husband, Curry F. Cothren,
preceded her in death on March 20, 1969. Mrs. Cothren was also preceded in death by
one daughter, Sharon Hanson.
She is survived by:

Mr. Marion F. Bates
Mr. Marion F. Bates of Higden, Arkansas, passed away at his home on Sunday,
April 6, 2003. Born in Morganton, Arkansas, on September 19, 1923, Mr. Bates
was 79 years of age. He was the son of the late Dewey and Elizabeth (Grissom) Bates.
Mr. Bates was a lifetime resident of Cleburne County and a retired farmer. He
served in the United States Air Force during World War II and was awarded nine bronze
stars. Mr. Bates religious faith was of the Holiness belief.
