Mrs. Bertie Betty Cora Barber of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2003, at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Heber Springs. Born in Little Red, Arkansas, on February 28, 1916, Mrs. Barber was 87 years of age. She was the daughter of the late William Floyd and Mary (Cullum) Thrasher. Mrs. Barber was a former resident of Little Rock, Arkansas, and had lived in Heber Springs since 1960. She was a retired butcherett and meat wrapper. Mrs. Barber was a Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 440 in Heber Springs. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Heber Springs and the Joy Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert B. Barber.

Services will be held Wednesday, April 9, at 2:00 P.M. in the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. J. R. DeBusk and Rev. Herb Holley officiating. Interment will follow in the Henderson cemetery. Mr. Werner Ray Wynne
Mr. Werner Ray Wynne of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Monday, April 7, 2003, at the St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born in Drasco, Arkansas, on September 9, 1931, Mr. Wynne was 71 years of age. He was theson of the late Roger Ervin and Minnie (Grant) Wynne.Mr. Wynne was a plumber and a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters, UA Local Union #714. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Wynne s religious belief was Baptist. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy L. Wynne, on June 5, 2002. Mr. Wynne was also preceded in death by two brothers, Donnie Wynne and George Wynne.
Survivors include:
one daughter: Sheila Davis of Lonoke, AR two brothers: Noel Wynne and Ronnie Wynne, both of Heber Springs, AR two sisters: Dixie Schoolar of Atlanta, Georgia and Dianne Allen of Heber Springs, AR and two grandchildren: Austin Wynne Davis and Bradley Christopher Davis. John Daniel Jack Sommerfeldt
John Daniel Jack Sommerfeldt died Tuesday, April 8, 2003 in Little Rock, AR. He was born in St. Louis, MO, October 11, 1922. He was a veteran of World War II serving in Rhineland, Central Europe, Normandy, and Northern France Campaigns. He was a lifelong employee of Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, first in St. Louis, and then in Little Rock as Area Plant Engineer. He attended Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. He is survived by a daughter Carol Lee Sommerfeldt Gikas, a son-in-law Kenneth Stephen Gikas, and two granddaughters Lydia Christina and Caroline Grace, all of Baton Rouge, LA; a grandson John Konrad Kurt Sommerfeldt of Little Rock; a sister Catherine Grace Schaefer of Fairfax Station, VA; and a daughter-in-law Elizabeth Sommerfeldt and her children Blake and Ashley Lensing, all of Little Rock. He is preceded in death by his parents Philo Adolphus and Allabelle Amerman Sommerfeldt; his wife Orvella Dorothy Hennemann Sonimerfeldt; and his son Steven John Sommerfeldt. With the love and attention of many dear friends in Heber Springs and Rosebud, AR, he lived independently until recently falling ill. He loved God, the sweetheart of his life his wife Orvella, his family, his country, animals, and the great outdoors. In his life, he was accomplished in many sports and in playing multiple musical instruments. A service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Heber Springs, on Saturday, April12, at 10 A.M. He will later be laid to rest at Jefferson Barracks National cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Memorial donations may be sent to the Humane Society of Heber Springs, 49 Shelter Lane, Heber Springs, AR 72543; and to the First United Methodist Church Park Fund , 1099 West Pine St., Heber Springs, AR 72543.
Dorothea Jean Riffel
Dorothea Jean Riffel, 76, of Springdale, Arkansas died April 8, 2003, in Houston, Texas.
She was born December 22, 1926, in Stockton, KS., the daughter of
Forest and Veda VanHorn. Dorothea graduated from Stockton High School in 1944 where she met her future husband Duane Riffel and they became high school sweethearts. She later attended Denver Business College in Denver Colorado. After graduation she was employed by the Boeing Modification Center in Denver, which modified B 29 airplanes. After World War II Duane and Dorothea married
and enjoyed 57 years, 2 months and 5 days of a cherished life together.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Springdale. Dorothea was a past president of The Heart of the Lakes Hospice organization, now known as Outreach in The Hills. and a volunteer worker at Haven House for Victims of Domestic Violence in Heber Springs, Arkansas.
She is survived by her husband Edward Duane Riffel, three sons
Dennis Riffel of Fairhope, Alabama, Douglas Riffel of North Little Rock, Arkansas, Bradley Riffel of Canton, Ohio and a daughter, Kathy Herriman of Fayetteville, Arkansas.
She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild in addition to a host of friends and other relatives. Dorothea leaves behind two sisters, Elaine Korb of Stockton, Kansas and Joan Owens of San Antonio, Texas.
Her memorial service will be Wednesday, April 23rd at 11:00am, at First Presbyterian Church, in Springdale with Rev. Stewart Smith officiating .
Dorothea and Duane lived in the Mystic Isle Subdivision near the town of Greers Ferry, AR. for 25 years and have many old friends there. An additional memorial service will be at the Holiday Hills Methodist Church in Greers Ferry on Friday, April 25th at 11:00 am, with Rev. Denzil Stokes officiating.
The Cremation internment will be at Olmstead cemetery at Fairfield Bay. There will be no service at that time.

Mr. Bobby Gale Lott
Mr. Bobby Gale Lott of Searcy, Arkansas, died at his home on Wednesday, April 9,
2003. Born in McClellen, Arkansas, on July 19, 1941, Mr. Lott was 61 years of age. He
was the son of the late Delbert and Lorene (English) Lott.
Mr. Lott had been a resident of the Searcy area for two years and was a former resident
of Heber Springs. He was a sheet rock finisher, and he enjoyed music. Mr. Lott s
religious belief was Assembly of God. He was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne
Lott, and his sister, Shirley Curry.
He is survived by:
two daughters: Lisa Vaughan and Tammy Stair, both of Quitman, AR
two sisters: Marie Bennett of Letona, AR
and Patsy Stasic of St. Louis, Missouri
and three grandchildren: Clint Vaughan, Ashley Vaughan, and April Doyle.

Mr. James Loyd Wheeler
Mr. James Loyd Wheeler of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Thursday,
April 10, 2003, at the Twin Rivers Health and Rehab in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
Born in Grand Glaise, Arkansas, on January 26, 1924, Mr. Wheeler was 79 years
of age. He was the son of the late James M. and Nora M. (Stewart) Wheeler.
Mr. Wheeler was a retired contractor of home improvement building and sales.
He was a veteran of World War II and Korea, having served in the U. S. Navy
and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War and the American Legion.
Mr. Wheeler was a member of the Methodist Church.
Survivors include:

and Diana Hutchens of South Padre Island, Texas

Monica Elaine Patton of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Thursday,
April 10, 2003, at her home. Born in Bermuda on August 24, 1961, Monica
was 41 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Marvin and Patricia
(Dague) Bickel.
Monica had been a resident of Heber Springs most of her life. She was a secretary
and homemaker, and she loved flowers. Her religious belief was Lutheran.

Rosemary F. Traylor passed away Friday. A lifelong member of the Episcopal Church, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, and the Little Red River Audubon Society.

Coy Vaughan, 87, passed away Friday. The son of John P. and Maude Vaughan.
He was preceeded in death by a daughter Betty Wall and two brothers Doyle and
Jerrell. He is survived by his wife Oletta, two sons Robert of Beebe and Richard
of Conway, one daughter Aliene Eddleman of Quitman. Six sisters Pat Canterberry
of Mabelvale, Ruth Attendorn and Lenora Gill of Heber Springs, Johnnie
Duncan of Damascus, Cordie Shea of Texarkana and Lou Vaughn of Rose Bud.
A brother Venoy Vaughan of Heber Springs and 7 grandchildren and 4

at the Center Point Church with interment at the Center Point cemetery.

Mrs. Lillian M. Brackett of Concord, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2003, at the White River Medical Center in Batesville, Arkansas. Born October 2, 1916, in Oklahoma, Mrs. Brackett was 86 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Henry J. and Hattie (Arnold) Bell. A resident of Concord most of her life, Mrs. Brackett was a homemaker and mother. She was a member of the Concord First Baptist Church. Her husband, Melvin E. Brackett, preceded her in death in 1979.
Survivors include: five sons, Lynnie Brackett of Batesville, AR Jefferson Brackett and Ronnie Brackett, both of St. Louis, Missouri Rickey Brackett of California and Shane Hargrove of Concord, AR five daughters, Laverne Blanton of Springfield, Missouri Loretta Hargrove of Concord, AR Margie Foushee of Greers Ferry, AR and Diane Davis and Becky McDillion, both of St. Louis, Missouri twenty-four grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren, and five great, great grandchildren. Mrs. Brackett is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Mrs. Dorothy May Hassen of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2003, at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on March 17, 1924, Mrs. Hassen was 79 years of age. She was the daughter of the late James H. and Frances E. (Johnson) Allen. Mrs. Hassen was a banker for thirty-five years and retired from the First National Bank of Omaha, Nebraska. She had been a resident of Heber Springs since 1999 and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Heber Springs. Mrs. Hassen was a member of the Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Galen C. Hassen, and also by one sister, Winifred Mass. Survivors include: her brother and sister-in-law, James and Kathryn Allen of Heber Springs, AR. Mora Kathryn Allen, 84, of Heber Springs, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2003. She was born November 4, 1918, in Manila, Arkansas, to James Andrew and Virgie Mae (Counts) Parker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Hall Pickett and Lloyd Dick Allen, and a sister, Gladys French. She had lived in Heber Springs for 23 years, having moved here from El Cajon, California. Mrs. Allen was a retired restaurant owner. Her religious belief was Baptist.
She leaves a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Charles E. Smith of Heber Springs, AR two grandchildren, Kathryn Burton and Charles Smith, Jr. four great grandchildren, Stephanie Burton, Ralph Burton, Jr., Jeanie Burton, and Charles Burton a sister and nephew, Dorothy Huskey and her son Troy, both of Golden Valley, Arizona. She also leaves other nieces and nephews and her many friends.

Mrs. Anita Frances Jerry of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Monday, May 26, 2003, at her home. Born in Oxford, Mississippi, on February 28, 1939, Mrs. Jerry was 64 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Isaac and Hazel Lucille (Henry) Brown. A former resident of Memphis, Tennessee, Mrs. Jerry had been a resident of Heber Springs since August of 1996. She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting. Her religious belief was Baptist. She was preceded in death by her former husband Raymond Jerry of 23 years.
Survivors include: one son, Jim Elliott Price of Heber Springs, AR three daughters, Glenda Tutor of Mississippi and Joy Crider and Sheila Hamilton, both of Heber Springs, AR one brother, David Brown of Florida one sister, Robbie Millner of Florida four grandchildren, Lori Qualls, Johnathon (J. D.) Hodes, Patricia Wagener, and Joni June and four great grandchildren, Destinee Adams, Witlee Adams, Isaiah Lynn Wagener, and Autumn Wagener. Mrs. Jerry is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

William Henry Bill Caldwell
William Henry Bill Caldwell, 79, of Rose Bud, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2003 in the White County Medical Center at Searcy, Arkansas. He lived his life as a farmer and cattle rancher. He was the founder and former president of Caldwell Milling Company. Bill was active in the community affairs of the city of Rose Bud, served as mayor and he was a member and co-founder of the Christian Fellowship Center at Rose Bud. He was a member of the Advisory Council for Christ for the Nations, of Dallas, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his first wife LaNell (Griffin) Caldwell, his parents, Henry Gordon Caldwell and Melinda Selvidge Caldwell, brother, James Caldwell, three sisters, Tressie DuPriest, Lorene Walters and Lucille Holeman.
He is survived by his wife, Marie (Gay) Caldwell, son, Henry G. Caldwell and wife Reta of Rose Bud, daughter Peggy Brewer and husband Jimmy of Aptos, California, two brothers, L.G. Bud Caldwell and Elbert Caldwell both of Little Rock. Four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday evening from 6:00 P.M. 9:00 P.M.
Funeral services are Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. in the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. Paul Garriott, Rev. Bill Hite, Rev. Doug McClure, Rev. Charles Thompson and Dr. Jimmy Brewer officiating.
