Jesse William Cain

Jesse William Cain of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away Monday, April 14, 2003,
at the Central Arkansas Hospital in Searcy, Arkansas. Born in Richmond, Indiana,
on April 11, 1926, Mr. Cain was 77 years of age. He was the son of the late Jesse H.
and Verl (Wheeler) Cain.
Mr. Cain was a former resident of Newport, Arkansas, where he owned and operated the
Newport Bakery for fifteen years. Upon his retirement, he and his wife moved to
Fairfield Bay, where they had been residents for twenty-five years. Mr. Cain loved
fishing and worked as a fishing guide at Fairfield Bay, where he was known by his
fishing buddies as Jarhead . He retired from the United States Marines with twenty
years of service and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Cain s
religious belief was of the First Christian Church.
He is survived by:
his wife: Virginia Fratellio Cain of Fairfield Bay, AR
one son: Malcolm Cain of Albany, Georgia
one daughter: Priscilla Tennyson of Grubbs, AR
one brother: Larry Cain of Louisiana
one sister: Juanita Hughes of Searcy, AR
three grandchildren: Allen Tennyson and Anthony Tennyson, both of Grubbs, AR
and Jessica Sykes of Jonesboro, AR
and two great grandchildren: Sam Tennyson and Emily Tennyson, both of Grubbs, AR
Mr. Cain is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
A memorial service for Mr. Cain will be held Thursday, April 17, at 2:00 P.M. at
Olmstead Woodland Chapel in Edgemont with Rev. Junior Ray Barham officiating.

PEGGY EUGENIA BALENTINE, THE DAUGHTER OF JAMES K. AND KATIE D. HARRISON SMITH WAS BORN IN SPRINGHILL, LOUISIANA ON APRIL 12, 1939 AND passed away IN LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS ON JUNE 6, 2003 AT THE AGE OF 64 YEARS. MRS. BALENTINE WAS A MEMBER OF THE HOWARD GENERAL BAPTIST CHURCH A LOVING MOTHER AND GRANDMOTHER SHE HAD LIVED IN QUITMAN SINCE AUGUST OF 2003 MOVING THERE FROM TENNESSEE COLONY, TEXAS. SHE IS SURVIVED BY HER HUSBAND JESSE DALE BALENTINE. GLADYS TILDA JOHNSON, THE DAUGHTER OF JOE BENNETT AND CLEM JOHNSON BENNETT WAS BORN IN QUITMAN, ARKANSAS ON MARCH 16, 1911 AND passed away IN HEBER SPRINGS OF JUNE 7, 2003 AT THE AGE OF 92 YEARS. MRS. JOHNSON WAS A HOMEMAKER AND HER RELIGIOUS BELIEF WAS ASSEMBLY OF GOD AND BAPTIST. SHE HAD LIVED HER LIFE IN THE FAIRBANKS AND CROSS ROADS COMMUNITIES. SHE WAS PRECEEDED IN DEATH BY HER HUSBAND IRA C. JOHNSON HER PARENTS AND A SISTER. SHE IS SURVIVED BY A SON CURTIS OF QUITMAN. A DAUGHTER INICE SUE STIERS OF HARRINGTON, DELEWARE. Lloyd Schoolcraft

Lloyd Schoolcraft, age 78, of Quitman, Arkansas, died Sunday night, June 8, 2003, at his home located at 1024 Firehouse Road, Quitman, Arkansas. He was born on March 8, 1925, in Black Oak, Arkansas. He was the son of the late Orville Pool and Ida Bell Purdue Schoolcraft of Lindsey, California.

Lloyd worked as a custodian for Quitman Public Schools in Quitman, Arkansas, until he retired.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: William Earl Schoolcraft of Marion, Arkansas, Junior Arvil Schoolcraft of Fresno, California and Johnny Jewell Beard of Clovis, California.

Survivors are his wife of fifty years, Loudeen Barger Schoolcraft, a daughter Peggy Lou Schoolcraft King and her husband Donald King of Quitman, Arkansas, a son David Gerald and his wife Chris Schoolcraft of Quitman, Arkansas, three grandchildren: Christopher Michael King and his wife Rhonda of Quitman, Arkansas, Candy Diane King Wilhite and her husband Jamie of Rose Bud, Arkansas, Matthew Scott King and his wife Jessica of Quitman, Arkansas, three step-grandchildren, Becky Mayberry and Sonny Butler of San Angelo, Texas and Daniel Butler of Rose Bud, Arkansas, four great-grandchildren: Christopher Austin King, Michael Ryan King, Spencer Douglas King and Kristian King all of Quitman, Arkansas, five step-great grandchildren: Finis Mayberry, Jacob Mayberry, Rachel Butler, Michele Butler and Hunter Butler. Mr. Schoolcraft is also survived by other nieces and nephews as well as his many friends.

Lloyd will be remembered for his thoughtfulness, kindness gentleness and being a loving husband and father. He and Loudeen celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 6th 2002.

Lloyd had a love for music and was gifted at playing the guitar and piano.

Visitation will be at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. of Heber Springs, Arkansas on Monday, June 9th and Tuesday, June 10th , from 4:00 8:00 P.M.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 11th , 10:00 A.M. at the Olmstead Chapel in Heber Springs, Arkansas with Rev. Bob Bittle officiating. Burial will be at Shiloh Cross Roads cemetery in Greers Ferry, Arkansas. Pallbearers are: Christopher Michael King, Matthew Scott King, Jamie Wilhite, Daniel Butler and Finis Mayberry. Mr. Larry Dale Swofford

Mr. Larry Dale Swofford of Shirley, Arkansas, passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 11, 2003. Born in Choctaw, Arkansas, on March 30, 1945, Mr. Swofford was 58 years of age. He was the son of the late Dale Leon and Virginia (McQuin) Swofford. A resident of Shirley most of his life, Mr. Swofford was a retired heavy equipment operator. His religious belief was of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include one son, John Swofford of Formosa, AR two daughters, Kathy Swofford and Martha Roesch, both of Shirley, AR three brothers, Danny Swofford of Bee Branch, AR and Mike Swofford and Joe Swofford, both of Clinton, AR four sisters, Donna Buckner of Conway, AR Sharon Swofford of Clinton, AR Mary Faye Wilson of Choctaw, AR and Liz Thorn of Fairfield Bay, AR two grandsons, Ashton Sargent and Taylor Robinson and two granddaughters, Crystal Swofford and Heather Robinson. Mr. Swofford is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
Visitation will be held at the Olmstead Woodland Chapel on Friday, June 13, from 4:00-6:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 14, at 10:00 A.M. at the Shirley First Baptist Church with Rev. George Azar, Shane Tharp, and Walter Tharp officiating. Mr. Lee Morris

Mr. Lee Morris of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2003, at Beverly HealthCare in Heber Springs. Born in Marble, Colorado, on February 26, 1915, Mr. Morris was 88 years of age. He was the son of the late Joseph Moruzzi and Santa (Rugo) Moruzzi. Mr. Morris was a retired river boat captain and had been a resident of Heber Springs since 1982. His religious belief was Catholic. He was preceded in death by his wife, Olavel Morris, on October 5, 1998. Survivors include one son, Michael Morris two daughters, Kay Morris and Kim Morris and six grandchildren. Mr. Morris is also survived by other relatives and his many friends. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, June 19, at 9:00 A.M. at St. Albert s Catholic Church with Fr. Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Brackett

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Brackett of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2003, at the Conway Regional Medical Center in Conway, Arkansas. Born in Stuttgart, Arkansas, on June 20, 1919, Mrs. Brackett was 83 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Laura (Morris) Chadick. A resident of Heber Springs for sixteen years, Mrs. Brackett was a homemaker and retired cook. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Heber Springs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Brackett, and one son, Allen Settle. Survivors include: three sons, Carl Settle of North Carolina Charles Settle of Pine Bluff, AR and Billy Settle of Salina, Oklahoma two daughters, Laura Knabe of Floral, AR and Judith Ann Knabe of Maumelle, AR nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Mrs. Brackett is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Mrs. Cathren Moore

Mrs. Cathren Moore of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2003, at White County Medical Center in Searcy, Arkansas. Born in Wilburn, Arkansas, on June 23, 1915, Mrs. Moore was 87 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Jesse and Eunice (Foust) Shearer. Mrs. Moore was a homemaker and mother. She was a lifetime resident of Cleburne County and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Heber Springs First United Methodist Church. Her husband, Dorr B. Moore, preceded her in death on February 3, 2001. Survivors include one son, Dorr B. Moore, Jr. of Heber Springs, AR one brother, Faber Shearer of Heber Springs, AR one sister, Anna B. Tharp of Florida three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Mrs. Moore is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 16, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the Olmstead Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 17, at 10:30 A.M. in the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. John Miles and Oscar Patchell officiating. Interment will follow in the Magness Chapel cemetery. Jeremy Cole Barnum

Jeremy Cole Barnum of Pine Snag, Arkansas passed away Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Baptist Medical Center in Heber Springs, Arkansas. Born in Searcy, Arkansas, on October 17, 1984, Jeremy was 18 years of age. He was the son of Jim and Avil Barnum.A lifetime resident of Cleburne County Jeremy was a 2003 graduate of Heber Springs High School, a student at A.S.U. Heber Springs, president of the Pine Snag 4-H Club, a 4-H state ambassador and a member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.He was preceded in death by his grandfathers Alvin Snow and Clarence Barnum.Survivors include: his parents, Jim and Avil Barnum, one brother, Justin Barnum, grandmothers Norma Snow and Bobbie Barnum, his uncle, John and Aunt Regina Davis and special cousins Chandra and Shane Davis all of Pine Snag, Arkansas. Jeremy is also survived by other relatives and many, many friends.

Mrs. Fleda Fry

Mrs. Fleda Fry of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Monday, June 16, 2003, at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Heber Springs. Born in Quitman, Arkansas, on October 8, 1927, Mrs. Fry was 75 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Addie Jackson Pike. Mrs. Fry was a homemaker and mother. She was a lifetime resident of Cleburne County and was a member of the South Cross Roads Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel Fry, on July 10, 1999, and by an infant son, Vernon Edward Fry, on May 3, 1947. Mrs. Fry was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and six brothers. She is survived by one son, Larry Fry of Heber Springs, AR one daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Junior Rolland of Pangburn, AR one brother, Farris Pike of Quitman, AR two grandsons, David Rolland and his wife, Christi, and ichael Rolland, all of Pangburn, AR and a great grandchild expected June 24.Mrs. Fry is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 17, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the Olmstead Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 18, at 2:00 P.M. at South Cross Roads Church. Onus Dean Martin

Onus Dean Martin, son of the late Lonnie and Audrey (Sharp) Martin, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2004, at White River Medical Center in Batesville, Arkansas. Born October 1, 1915 at Banner, Arkansas, he was 78 years of age. Onus had been a resident of Michigan before he came back to Concord in1990. He was a carpenter, a member of Concord General Baptist Church, and an Army veteran of WWII. Besides his parents, He was preceded in death by his wife Freda Evelene (Davis) Martin on July 13, 1991, and two sisters, Edna Rambo and Evelyn Nail. He is survived by his son Larry Martin of Concord, Arkansas. His brothers, Lyndle Martin, Vernon Martin, Lowell Martin, and Weldon Martin, all of Michigan, his sisters, Leola Bowren, of Floral, Arkansas and Anne Potter. 3 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, other relatives, and many friends.
Services were Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at Concord General Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. with Rev Robert Brumley officiating. Interment followed at Concord cemetery with Wesley Martin, Clint Martin, Mark Millikin, Jerry Stair, Don Reed, Jr. and Trenton Reed serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers were Austin Martin, Wyatt Millikin, and Clelan Jackson. Arrangements were by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Heber Springs, Arkansas.

Mrs. Shirley Maryann Altom

Mrs. Shirley Maryann Altom of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away at her home on Tuesday, June 17, 2003. Born in Heber Springs on May 21, 1946, Shirley was 57 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Arva and Laverne (Chandler) Balentine. Shirley was a homemaker and a lifetime resident of Cleburne County. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Barbara Moody; and one stepson, LaDon Altom. Shirley is survived by: her husband, Kendell Altom of Heber Springs, AR two sons, Todd Landreth and his wife, Kim, and Darren Altom and his wife, Pat, one daughter, Terri Douglas and her husband, Byron, one brother, Garry Balentine one sister, Donna Herndon four grandsons, Joshua Landreth, Casey Douglass, Dylon Wright, and Dawson Wright and four granddaughters, Carlei Douglas, Kaitlynn Landreth, Caree Douglas, and Larissa Douglas. Shirley is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.
Funeral services for Shirley will be held Thursday, June 19, at 10:00 A.M. at the Pleasant Ridge Union Church with Rev. Lee Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Ridge cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Southerland, Dale Southerland, Keith Douglass, Mike Gay, Kevin Altom, and Billy Wayne Altom. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc., 601 W. Mrs. Sharon Adair Stuckwisch

Mrs. Sharon Adair Stuckwisch of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at Beverly HealthCare in Heber Springs. Born in Baytown, Texas, on July 22, 1949, Sharon was 53 years of age. She was the daughter of Joyce Marie (Wells) Campbell and the late Joe F. Campbell. Sharon had been a resident of Heber Springs for ten years and was a secretary for Health Resources of Arkansas. Her religious belief was Lutheran. She was preceded in death in death by her husband, Gary Stuckwisch. Sharon is survived by one son, Marcus Wayne Stuckwisch of Heber Springs, AR her mother, Joyce M. Campbell of Heber Springs, AR and one brother, Joseph F. Campbell of Channelview, Texas. Sharon is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 21, at 2:00 P.M. in the Hope Lutheran Church with Rev. Stephen Douglas officiating. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Mr. James Thomas Monk

Mr. James Thomas Monk of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born in Cabot, Arkansas, on December 17, 1920, Mr. Monk was 82 years of age. He was the son of the late Thomas B. and Maybelle (Blakeney) Monk. Mr. Monk retired in 1983 as Manager of the Thunderbird Country Club. He was also a former grocer. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Air Force. Mr. Monk was an avid fisherman and hunter, who organized the Big Creek Hunting Lodge. He was also an avid gardener. Mr. Monk was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Heber Springs. He is survived by: his wife, Marqueritte (Edwards) Monk of Heber Springs, AR two sons, Jerry Monk and his wife, Becky, of Heber Springs, AR and Fred Monk of Little Rock, AR two daughters, Susan McConnell and her husband, Rick, of Clifton Park, New York and Peggy Stroud of Heber Springs, AR one sister: Pat Marshall and her husband, Merrill, of Cap, AR and four grandchildren: Brent Monk, Brad Monk, Jeremy Monk, and Cole Elrod. Mr. Monk is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 19, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Olmstead Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Friday, June 20, at 9:30 A.M. at Cleburne County Memorial Gardens with a memorial service following at 10:30 A.M. in the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. Mrs. Bertie Mae Neal

Mrs. Bertie Mae Neal of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2003, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born in Wolf Bayou, Arkansas, on October 8, 1926, Mrs. Neal was 76 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Clate and Bessie (Shepherd) Phillips. Mrs. Neal recently moved to Heber Springs from Wolf Bayou, Arkansas, where she had lived since 1970. She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, gardening, animals, and babies. She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, D.A.V., Eastern Star, and the Christian Lighthouse Church at Wolf Bayou. Mrs. Neal was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Paul Neal, who died in June of 1970. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Addie Inman, and two brothers, Buck Phillips and Douglass Phillips.Survivors include two sons, Michael Roy Neal of Sacramento, California and Patrick Neal of Minneapolis, Minnesota; three daughters, Wilma Jean Markham of Washington Kathy Harrach and her husband, Lee, of Ridgefield, Washington and Patty Ellison and her husband, Thurman, of Quitman, AR; one brother, Toby Phillips of Wolf Bayou, AR; three sisters, Edna Parks of Banner, AR; Anna Bell Burge of Cave City, AR; and Elizabeth Hagan of Searcy, AR; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, three step grandchildren, four step great grandchildren, and her nephews, James Inman, Tom Inman, Keith Inman, Foy Eddings, and Terry Watkins. Mrs. Neal is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Mrs. Lela Mae (Towell) Smith

Mrs. Lela Mae (Towell) Smith of Ida, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2003, at Beverly HealthCare in Heber Springs, Arkansas. Born in Ida, Arkansas, on May 22, 1928, Mrs. Smith was 75 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Lincoln L. and Lizzie Beth (Dill) Towell. A lifetime resident of Cleburne County, Mrs. Smith was a retired cook for Lakeland Lodge. Her religious belief was General Baptist. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Leonard Towell, and one sister, Leona Lacy. Survivors include: her husband, Chester Smith of Ida, AR and her nieces and nephews, Shirley Southerland of Ida, AR; Sharon Phillips of Drasco, AR; Linda Matthews of Edgemont, AR; Leonard Towell of Benton, AR; and Lynn Towell of Heber Springs, AR. Mrs. Smith is also survived by other relatives and her many friends. Visitation will be held Monday, June 23, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the Olmstead Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 24, at 10:00 A.M. in the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. Cecil Robertson and Rev. Otis Lyons officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Ridge cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bruce Southerland, Donald Southerland, Steve Chastain, Mark Chastain, Wildred Southerland, and Leonard Glenn Towell. Honorary pallbearers are Cody Southerland, Corey Southerland, and Bailey Southerland. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.
