Mrs. Della Grace Akins of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2003, at Beverly HealthCare in Heber Springs. Born in Cleburne County, Arkansas, on February 20, 1913, Mrs. Akins was 90 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Jim and Josie Smith. Mrs. Akins was a mother and homemaker, and she was a lifetime resident of Cleburne County. Her religious belief was Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam A. Akins. She is survived by one son, James A. Akins of Greers Ferry, AR two daughters, Maxine Bailey and Patsy Hopkins, both of Heber Springs, AR one brother, Chester Smith of Ida, AR one sister, Ruby Stevens of Heber Springs, AR six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mrs. Akins is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Mrs. Rosemary F. Otskey of North Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, October 4, 2003, at Beverly HealthCare in Heber Springs, Arkansas. Born in Brookland, New York, on July 5, 1923, Mrs. Otskey was 80 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Peter and Florence (Walker) Otskey. Mrs. Otskey was a retired secretary for Railway Express. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Little Rock. Her husband, Albert Berthiaume, preceded her in death. Survivors include one son, Jerry Berthiaume of Grand Prairie, Texas one brother, Jerry Otskey of Henderson, Nevada one sister, Helen Wedel of Navato, California three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mrs. Otskey is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 9:30 to 10:00 A.M. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 7000 JFK Blvd., North Little Rock. Funeral mass will begin at 10:00 A.M. with Fr. Lydia Laverne Reedy
Lydia Laverne Reedy died October 10, 2003 at Lake Lodge Care Center, Lake Worth, Texas, at the age of 86 from Parkinson s disease. Born December 21, 1916 to Luther and Edith Wilson at Quitman, Arkansas. She enjoyed a full life in Quitman, where she raised her family. She loved her home, enjoyed her garden, and loved and enjoyed her many friends and neighbors. She worked At the Glove Factory in Heber Springs and later at the Cleburne County Hospital caring for newborns. She moved to Fort Worth, Texas in 1998 to be near her son, Eddie. She Was preceded in death by infant daughter Colleen, husband Robert, sons John and Freddie, and her sister Modene Baker. She is survived by: son Eddie reedy of Fort Worth, Texas, six grandchildren, Tommy, Scott, Sonya, Aaron, Joshua, and Sean Reedy, four great grandchildren, other relatives, and many friends. Visitation was Sunday, October 12, 2003 at Olmstead Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Services were Monday, October 13, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Olmstead Chapel with Rev. Bob McDaniel officiating. Interment followed at Cleburne County Memorial Gardens, in Heber Springs. Serving as pallbearers were, Eddie Reedy, Sean Reedy, Scott Reedy, Aaron Reedy, Joshua Reedy, and Tommy Reedy. Mrs. Virginia H. Caroll
Mrs. Virginia H. Caroll of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2003, at her home. Born in Statesboro, Georgia, on July 11, 1934, Mrs. Caroll was 69 years of age. She was the daughter of the late William Brinson and Eline (Oliff) Hurst. Mrs. Caroll had lived at Walnut Ridge for ten years, and she was a former resident of the Quitman area. She was a retired operator for Southern Bell Telephone in Jacksonville, Florida. Mrs. Caroll was a member of the DAV Auxiliary. She loved bowling, bingo, reading, puzzles, and helping people. Her religious belief was Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Caroll, who passed away in 1986. Mrs. Caroll was also preceded in death by one brother, Bennie Hurst, and one sister, Nita Rigby. Survivors include three stepsons, Richard Caroll of California Robin Caroll and Joseph Caroll, both of Boston, Massachusetts two stepdaughters, Guyina Spradley of Stringer, Mississippi and Diane Gilmore of Boston, Massachusetts and three sisters, Luree Newton, Judy Wilkes, and Wilhelima Howell, all of Florida and five step-grandchildren. Mrs. Caroll is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 17, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. in Heber Springs. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 18, at 4:00 P.M. at the Center Point Church near Quitman with Rev. Fred Oaks officiating. Interment will follow in the Center Point cemetery. Edward Alan Spencer
Edward Alan Spencer, (Captain, U.S. Army, Retired), passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2003, at Southridge Village Nursing Center in Heber Springs, Arkansas. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on July 27, 1927, Mr. Spencer was 76 years of age. He was the son of the late Oliver and Mae (Walker) Spencer. Mr. Spencer had lived at Edgemont for twenty years, and he was a former resident of Lafayette, Louisiana, and Greenwood, Indiana. He was a retired Captain with the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was also a retired pilot for Chevron and Air Logistics. Mr. Spencer s religious belief was Protestant. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Survivors include his wife, Beverly Ann (Batters) Spencer of Edgemont, AR two daughters, Denice Markham and her husband, Robert, of Chicago, Illinois and Patty Higgins of Anchorage, Alaska three sisters, Janet, Sylvia, and Mary Lou five grandchildren, Seth, Ariel, Gavin, Rachel, and Tara and one great grandchild, Aidan Edward. Mr. Spencer is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will be in the National cemetery at Washington, D.C.

Mr. James Thurman Bittle
Mr. James Thurman Bittle of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 14, 2003. Born in Shiloh, Arkansas, on June 18, 1913, Mr. Bittle was 90 years of age. He was the son of the late Tom and Elizabeth (Snelson) Bittle. A lifetime resident of Cleburne County, Mr. Bittle was a retired farmer who loved gardening and cutting wood. He was a member of the Cleburne County Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters. Mr. Bittle is survived by: his wife, Fern (Knapp) Bittle of Heber Springs, AR one son, Wendell Bittle and his wife, Betty, of Heber Springs, AR three daughters, Norma Martin and her husband, Sherlon, of Heber Springs, AR Kay Davis and her husband L.J. of Clinton, AR and Kathy Moody of Heber Springs, AR 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Mr. Bittle is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Miss Inez Louise Borton
Miss Inez Louise Borton of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2003, at the Indian Rock Village Nursing Home in Fairfield Bay. Born in New Albany Township, Iowa, on February 17, 1921, Miss Borton was 82 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Nelson and Ada (Harkins) Borton. Miss Borton was a retired employee of Northwestern Bell Telephone. She was a member of the Fairfield Bay Baptist Church. She is survived by her two nieces, Linda Holton and Kathy Hadgood, both of California and her special friend, Beverly Weaver of Shirley, AR. Miss Borton is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 16, at 3:00 P.M. at the Fairfield Bay First Baptist Church with funeral services beginning at 4:00 P.M. with Rev. Ronny Waycaster officiating. Mr. Wayne Houston of Ontario, California, formerly of Pangburn, Arkansas, passed away in Ontario on Saturday, October 11, 2003. Born at Pangburn, Arkansas, on May 2, 1943, Mr. Houston was 60 years of age. He was the son of the late Arnold and Elmus (Harper) Houston. Mr. Houston was a restaurant worker. His religious belief was Baptist. Survivors include: three brothers, Ardell Houston, Melvin Houston, and Doyle Houston, all of Pangburn, AR one sister, Freda Vinson of Pangburn, AR one half brother, Junior Houston of Blandon, Pennsylvania and two half sisters, Lucille Hear of Searcy, Arkansas and Evelyn Houston of Cabot, Arkansas. Rosa Barger Carr of Higden, Arkansas, passed away at the Beverly Nursing Home in Heber Springs, Arkansas, on Monday, October 20, 2003. Mrs. Carr was born in Bates City, Missouri, Lafayette County, Missouri, on October 23, 1911. She moved to Arkansas in 1914 at the age of four and has been a resident of Cleburne County since. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, John William Barger and Mary Elizabeth Heiple Barger of Higden, Arkansas; four brothers, William Willie Barger and Everett Barger of Bates City, Missouri, Edward Barger of Quitman, Arkansas, and Oscar Barger of Clinton, Arkansas; and three sisters, Ida Ann Barger Gann of Aubrey, Arkansas, Lillie Mae Barger Daugherty of Pleasant Grove, Arkansas, and Cordia L. Barger Barnum Presley of Higden, Arkansas. Mrs. Carr married
Sivel Carr on October 14, 1929, in Harrisburg, Arkansas. She is survived by one son, Leon Carr of Higden, Arkansas, who is presently living at the Beverly Nursing Home in Heber Springs, Arkansas. Mrs. Carr was a member of the Church of Christ in Higden, Arkansas. Mrs. Carr is also survived by seven nephews, Harvey Eugene Barger, Willie Gene Barger, and Roy Edward Barger of Quitman, Arkansas, Chester Barger of Greers Ferry, Arkansas, Jimmy Levon Barger of Bentonville, Arkansas, Carl Junior Barger of Conway, Arkansas, and Steve Edward Barger of Clinton, Arkansas; and nine nieces, LouElla Imogene Barger Davis, Leona Faye Barger Bittle, and Flossie Loudeen Barger Schoolcraft of Quitman, Arkansas, Ella Mae Barger Benton of West Plains, Missouri, Mary Elizabeth Barger Hightower of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Velma Marie Daughtery Logan of Pleasant Grove, Arkansas, Patsy Ann Daughtery Fontneot of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Onedia Barnum Fortenberry of Safford, Arizona, and Lola Mae Presley Neighbors of Concord, Arkansas. Mr. Joseph Koridek
Mr. Joseph Koridek, age 90, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2003, at his home in Clarendon Hills, Illinois. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on March 3, 1913, he was the son of the late Joseph and Marie (Smerz) Koridek. A former resident of Heber Springs, Arkansas, Mr. Koridek was a retired manager for Western Electric. His religious faith was Catholic. Mr. Koridek was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine M. (Pesch) Koridek, who passed away on December 9, 1993. He is survived by three sons, Joseph S. Koridek of St. Augustine, Florida Michael F. Koridek of Bartlett, Illinois, and James B. Koridek of St. Charles, Illinois two daughters, Mary Smith of Mendham, New Jersey and Barbara Bruning of Clarendon Hills, Illinois eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Mr. Koridek is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Ivory Ann Dillon Gray, 89, of Greers Ferry, Arkansas, passed away at her home on Tuesday, October 21, 2003. Born in Lone Pine, Arkansas, on October 2, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Charley L. and Dellar (Heffner) Dillon. On May 17, 1931, she was married
to Joe T. Gray, and they were married
for seventy-two years. Mrs. Gray was a mother and homemaker, and she was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by one son, Floyd J. Gray, and one daughter, Maxine Gray. Survivors include her husband, Joe T. Gray of Greers Ferry, AR, one daughter, Mary Lou Griggs of Greers Ferry, AR, one sister, Illar Dillon of Nacogdoches, Texas, two granddaughters, Vicky Lou Lockard and Treva Ann James, three step-grandchildren, Valerie Davis, Ann Guthrie, and Sandra Perkins, five great-granddaughters; six step-great-grandchildren two great, great grandsons, four nephews, and six nieces. Mrs. Gray is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Mrs. Bobbie H. Wolfe, age 75, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, passed away Monday, October 20, 2003, at the Briarwood Health Care in Denver, Colorado. Born in Henrietta, Oklahoma, on October 7, 1928, Mrs. Wolfe was the daughter of the late Robert and Vena (Counts) Barrett. Mrs. Wolfe was a retired restaurant owner. She was a former resident of Greers Ferry, Arkansas, where she and her husband, Jack, lived for several years. Her husband preceded her in death on June 17, 2002. Survivors include three sisters, Madeleine Patton of Wenatchee, Washington Margaret Schooler of Littleton, Colorado and Joyce M. Schooler of Ft. Worth, Texas three nephews, Keith Schooler and his wife, Emilie, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado Don Schooler and his wife, HyeSop, of Ft. Worth, Texas and Jack Randy Schooler and his wife, Marlene of Tustin, California four great nieces, two great nephews, two great great nieces, and three great great nephews. Mrs. Wolfe is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Millard G. Fletcher
Millard G. Fletcher, age 73, of Ida, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2003, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born in Lake City, Arkansas, on June 8, 1930, he was the son of the late Rudy V. and Edith (Scroggins) Fletcher. Mr. Fletcher had been a resident of Ida for twenty-seven years, and he established Fletcher s Grocery and Hardware Store. An active community leader, Mr. Fletcher served on the Cleburne County Hospital Board and helped organize the Volunteer Fire Departments of Tumbling Shoals-Ida and Drasco. He also served on the Board of the Tumbling Shoals-Ida Fire Department. He was a Mason and a member of Sugar Loaf Masonic Lodge #414. Mr. Fletcher was a member of Pleasant Ridge Union Church. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy (Crites) Fletcher of Ida, AR four sons, Dale Fletcher of Cabot, AR Robert Fletcher of Folsom, California Jack Fletcher of Ida, AR and Rudy Fletcher of Hot Springs, AR one daughter, Wendy Fletcher of Bigelow, AR one brother, Jesse Fletcher of Woodland, California one sister, Brenda Sue Minatre of Sacramento, California twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
