Mr. Preston Clifton, “P.K” Barnes
Mr. Preston Clifton, “P.K” Barnes, age 94, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Thursday , January 15, 2004 at White County Medical Center in Searcy, Ar. Born in Alma, Arkansas on February 8, 1909, he was the son of the late Robert and Sarah (Hill) Barnes. Mr. Barnes was a saw mill owner. He had been a resident of Heber Springs most of his life, and he enjoyed fox hunting. Mr. Barnes was a member of the 1st Assembly of God Church. He was preceded in death by three daughters, Erma Good, Jennellyn Parish, and Gayle Crider. Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Juanita Elbertha (Blakey) Barnes of Heber Springs, AR, three sons, Sterlen Barnes of North Bend, Oregon, Ed Barnes of Decatur, Tennessee, and Bob Barnes of Rose Bud, AR, one daughter, Carla Parish of Heber Springs, AR, two brothers, Ellis Snow of Heber Springs, AR, and Curtis Snow of Richland, Washington, one sister, Daisy Haile of Heber Springs, AR, 18 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild. Mr. Barnes is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
Mr. Roy Albert Davis
Mr. Roy Albert Davis, age 93, of Vilonia, Arkansas, passed away Monday, January 12, 2004, at Salem Place Nursing Center in Conway, Arkansas. Born at Martinsville, Arkansas, on October 3, 1910, he was the son of the late John E. and Elenor E. (Bedwell) Davis. Mr. Davis had been a resident of Cleburne County most of his life. He was a retired saw mill worker and enjoyed cutting wood and gardening. Mr. Davis’ religious belief was Pentecostal. He is survived by one brother, Ralph “Pete” Davis of Heber Springs, AR, his nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great, great nieces and nephews. Mr. Davis is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 14, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 15, at 10:00 A.M. in the Olmstead Chapel. Mrs. Sophie Ruth Carter
Mrs. Sophie Ruth Carter, age 59, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2004, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born at Crockett, Texas, on January 24, 1944, she was the daughter of Theresa O’Dell (Roberson) Revel and the late John Desmond Revel. Sophie was a homemaker and mother, and she had been a resident of Heber Springs for seventeen years. She was a Christian. She is survived by her husband, Raymond D. Carter of Heber Springs, AR, one son, Raymond Desmond Carter of Memphis, Tennessee, two daughters, MaJunta Bulovic and Wylie Brewer, both of Heber Springs, AR, her mother, O’Dell Revel of Tumbling Shoals, AR, three stepdaughters, two sisters, Linda Permenter of Geneva, Florida, and Theresa Jane Burkett of Tumbling Shoals, AR, four grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren. Sophie is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Mrs. Margaret Jane Sleeker Couch
Mrs. Margaret Jane Sleeker Couch of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed to a better life on Monday, January 12, 2004. Born February 23, 1917, at Atkins, Arkansas, Mrs. Couch was 86 years of age. She was the daughter of the late John and Gypsy (Wheeler) Sleeker. A former resident of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, she had lived in Heber Springs for one year and was currently a resident of Southridge Village Nursing Center. Mrs. Couch was a homemaker and a gifted artist. Her religious belief was nondenominational. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orlien W. Couch, on December 6, 2002. Mrs. Couch is survived by a daughter, Nancy Couch Martin of Heber Springs, AR, a sister, Min Sleeker Throgmorton of Halls, Tennessee, a grandson, Cdr. Marshall Martin and his wife, Sarah, of Alexandria, Virginia, a granddaughter, Katherine Cain and her husband, Andrew, of Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Crouch is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Norma Jean Berberick, age 62, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2004 at Heber Springs, Arkansas. She was born August 2, 1941 at Benton Harbor, Michigan. She was the daughter of the late Edgar F. and Delphia (Holcomb) Ashley. She was a homemaker, enjoyed stamping, crafts, quilt making, and cooking. She was of Baptist belief, Norma Jean had lived in Cleburne County for the last 13 years, coming from Stevensville, Michigan she is survived by her husband Charles (Tony) Berberick, son, Robert Brown of Buchannan, Michigan, stepson, Allen Berberick, Sr. of Niles, Michigan, two sisters, Sandra Billington of Drasco, Arkansas and Dee Catania of Watervliet, Michigan, four grandchildren, Robert Genovese, Shawn Morris, Ben Brown, and Alex Brown. Four step grandchildren, Michelle Klarfr, Howard Berberick, Jr. Melissa Johnson, and Joey Berberick, 1 step great grandchild, Rowan Klarr, Many nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. Services were held Tuesday, January 13, 2004, at 1:00 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Union Church with Rev. Billy Henderson and Pastor Odell Altom officiating. Interment followed at Macedonia cemetery. Arminta M. Wildman, 92, of Heber Springs, died Friday, January 9, 2004, at Southridge Village Nursing and Rehab Center. Mrs. Wildman was born August 20, 1911, in Cleburne County, Arkansas, to the late John W. and Rosetta (Lea Vecy) McDearmon. She was a member of the Church of Christ and had lived her lifetime in this area. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Rader Wildman and one infant son. Mrs. Wildman is survived by one son, Floyd Wildman and his wife, Hazel, one daughter, Rissie Latch and her husband, Otha, five grandchildren, Pamela Williams, Kevin Wildman, Jennifer Johnston, Linda House, and Lisa Johnson, eleven great grandchildren, Jacob R. Johnston, Shawn Russenberger, Shawnna Harris, Jessica Wildman, Nikki Wildman, Donnie Ferguson, Shelby House, Evan House, Lauren Johnson, Caitlin Johnson, and Reagan Johnson. Two great, great, grandchildren, Cassandra and Christian Russenberger, other relatives and many friends.
Services were held Sunday, January 11, 2004 at Olmstead Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Samuel Wildmon and Rev. Kenneth Rolland officiating. Interment followed at Martin cemetery with Kevin Wildman, Shawn Russenberger, Josh Johnson. Bob house, Rick Johnson, and Billy Harris serving as pallbearers. Mrs. Louise Emmajane Sturch
Mrs. Louise Emmajane Sturch, age 89, of Wilburn, Arkansas, passed away at her home on Wednesday, January 7, 2004. She was born in Tyler, Arkansas, on September 24, 1914, and was the daughter of the late Peter and Ora (Bowers) Ellis. Mrs. Sturch was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening. She was a lifetime resident of the communities of Tyler, Hiram, and Wilburn in Cleburne County. Her religious belief was General Baptist. Her husband, Clark McKinley Sturch, preceded her in death on March 20, 2003. Mrs. Sturch was also preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings. She is survived by three sons, Darrell Sturch of Niceville, Florida Floyd Sturch of Gurdon, AR, and Douglas Sturch of Ida, AR, one daughter, Patsy Kratsch of Laguna Woods, California, twelve grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild. Mrs. Sturch is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.
Visitation will be held at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. beginning Thursday evening, January 8, 2004. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 10, at 10:00 A.M. in the Wilburn Community Church with Rev. Randy Altom officiating. Interment will follow in Magness Chapel cemetery. Mr. Truman R. L. Haile
Mr. Truman R. L. Haile, age 82, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2004, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Heber Springs. He was born in Snell, Arkansas, on September 26, 1921, and he was the son of the late George William and Dora (McDougal) Haile. Mr. Haile was a farmer and fishing guide. A lifetime resident of Cleburne County, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Mr. Haile was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army, and he was a member of the American Legion He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. Survivors include one sister, Martha Harper of Billings, Missouri, and his nieces and nephews. Mr. Haile is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 8, at 10:00 A.M. in the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. Mike Linley and Rev. Bruce Noah officiating. Interment will follow in the Haile cemetery. Mrs. Effie Olean Easterling, age 88, of Tumbling Shoals, Arkansas, passed away Monday, January 5, 2004, at White County Medical Center in Searcy, Arkansas. Born in Covington County, Mississippi, on July 21, 1915, she was the daughter of the late John Wesley and Ada ( Smith) Graves. A former resident of Beaumont, Texas, Mrs. Easterling had been a resident of Cleburne County since 1982. She was a homemaker and enjoyed reading the Bible, sewing, and making quilts. Her religious belief was Pentecostal. She was preceded in death by one son, Edward Byrd, Jr. Survivors include her husband, Pierce F. Easterling, Jr. of Tumbling Shoals, AR, one son, Harold Ray Byrd of Heber Springs, AR, nine daughters, Jean Lewis of Springfield, Missouri, Joan Lee of Tumbling Shoals, AR, Helen Rasch of Lakeland, Tennessee, Diana Shane of Greenville, Texas, Doris Williams, Wana Weber, and Faye Nelson, all of Florence, Mississippi, Teresa Lynn Ratliff of Hamilton, Texas, and Patricia Berry of Heber Springs, AR, one stepson, James Duncan Easterling of Buna, Texas, one stepdaughter, Sherrie Lynn Fain of Van Buren, AR, 35 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 7 great, great grandchildren. Mrs. Easterling is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Bryan Wayne Henson of Heber Springs, Arkansas, was born September 12, 1965, at Bonne Terre, Missouri. He was 47 years old and died Friday, January 2, 2004, at St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, L. J. and Zelma Ruth (Parish) Henson. He’ll be missed by many friends and family, especially his three daughters, Ganna Vogel of Conway, Tonya Mone’t Lawson of Heber Springs, and Tisha Abby Hollaway of Springdale; three grandchildren, Patience Vogel of Conway, Abrahm Vogel V of Conway, and Chrystal Hollaway of Springdale.

Mrs. Amy M. Swatscheno, age 75, of Greers Ferry, Arkansas, passed away Monday, January 5, 2004, at Central Arkansas Hospital in Searcy, Arkansas. Born in Yokohama, Japan, on August 10, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Tosio Kuwayama. Mrs. Swatscheno was a homemaker and had been a resident of Cleburne County since 1992. She is survived by her husband, James Swatscheno of Greers Ferry, AR, three sons, Darryl Swatscheno of Illinois, David Swatscheno of Marian, Illinois, and Dorian Swatscheno of Cary, Illinois, one daughter: Donita Pleticha of Villa Park, Illinois, and fourteen grandchildren. Mrs. Swatscheno is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.
