Mrs. Myrt C. Bell
Mrs. Myrt C. Bell, age 99, of Concord, Arkansas, passed away Friday, February 10, 2006, at Beverly Health Care in Heber Springs, Arkansas. Born at Almond, Arkansas, on September 4, 1906, she was the daughter of the late Allen and Callie (Ferguson) Jeffrey.
A lifetime resident of Cleburne and Independence counties, Mrs. Bell was a homemaker and mother. She was a member of the Chastain Chapel Church at Tumbling Shoals. Her husband, Hershel James Bell, preceded her in death in 1969.
Mrs. Bell is survived by: three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Noel Kerlin of Concord, Mary Lou and Chester Southerland of Concord, and Earlene and Nolen Cannon of Ida;one brother, Hayden Jeffrey of Desha; two sisters, Verbal Martin of Concord and Verna Dunn of Heber Springs; four grandchildren, Steve and Marty Cannon, Vicki Thompson, and Belinda Turner;and eight great-grandchildren, Dustin and Austin Cannon, Malachi and Mattie Cannon, Meagan and Rachel Cannon, Nick Thompson, and Jordan Turner.Mrs. Bell is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Oliver Louis 'Butch' Holt
Oliver Louis 'Butch' Holt, age 63, of Quitman, Arkansas, passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 7, 2006. Born in Harrisburg, Arkansas, on October 17, 1942, he was the son of Doris (Brown) Holt and the late Oscar Holt. Mr. Holt was a retired farmer and landscape worker, and he was a veteran of the United States Air Force. His religious belief was Pentecostal. Mr. Holt was preceded in death by one grandson, Zachary Holt. He is survived by his wife, Lenora D. (Greer) Holt of Quitman; two sons and daughters-in-law, Myron and Jennifer Holt of Heber Springs and Stacy and Tabetha Holt; one daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Johnathon Allen of Quitman; his mother, Doris Holt of Cherry Valley; two brothers, Richard Holt and Terry Holt; three sisters, Dean Seagraves, Judy Holt, and Linda Hamilton; and four grandchildren, Kaitlyn Richards, Cheyenne Holt, Tyler Holt, and Brittany Allen. Mr. Holt is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Feb. 9, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 10, at 10:00 a.m. in the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. Jeannia Denise Morris Wilkinson
Jeannia Denise Morris Wilkinson, age 37 passed from this life February 3, 2006. Born August 30, 1968 at Heber Springs, Arkansas. Sis Denise was the daughter of Bud and Alma (Onie) Jackson Morris. She was a member of the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn and was united in marriage to Tim Wilkinson on August 7, 1996. She is survived by her husband Tim of 9 ½ years, daughters Channing Martin, Taryn Wilkinson, son, Kasey Wilkinson, all of the home, sisters, Becky Horton and husband Phil of Heber Springs and Christy Ruby and husband Chris of Conway, Niece, Kim George, nephews, Derek Horton and Ty Ruby, great nephews, Hayden Edwards, Justin George, and a great niece Sydney George many aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her Grandparents of DeWitt, Arkansas and an infant brother. Denise will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and co workers.
Services were Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at Olmstead Chapel, Heber Springs with Leon Williams officiating. Interment followed at First Borncemetery, Heber Springs with Jerry Kerns, E.D. Alpha Joe Wood
Alpha Joe Wood, President and C.E.O. of Wood Haulers, Inc., passed away at Baptist Medical Center, Heber Springs, on February 3, 2006 at the age of 67. Joe was born April 23, 1938 in Pangburn, Arkansas to the late P.C. and Icy May Wood. He attended Pangburn School where he graduated in 1956. He then attended Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway, Arkansas. Joe began working with his father P.C. in 1956 when P.C. Wood & Son Lumber Company was established. He felt that his calling in life was to provide jobs to the people of Cleburne and White County. He was able to expand that calling to include people from all across the United States with the founding of Wood Haulers. Inc., where he was President and C.E.O. until the time of his death. Joe was also the largest rice producer in White County, and extensive beef cattle, American quarter horse and Boer goat breeding operation. Joe was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather instilling the values of hard work and honesty into his family. Joe had the reputation of being a man of his word where a handshake and his word were a binding contract. He has been labeled an icon and legend in the business world by his peers and associates. Joe is survived by his childhood sweetheart, loving wife of 48 years, and business partner, Jo Ann, Sons, Joe Wood, Jr. and wife Shannon of Heber Springs, and Sandy Wood of Memphis, Tn. Daughters, Gigi Wood Davis and husband Greg of Savannah, Tn. and Princess Tharp and husband Felix of Heber Springs, ten grandchildren, Stacie Jo Wood Bote, Josh Wood, Stephen Wood, Justin Wood, Julie Wood Monk, Candy Wood, Sander Wood, Walter Tharp, Chance Tharp, and Joseph Tharp, sister, Patsy House of Little Rock, and brother P.C. Wood, Jr. of Birmingham, Alabama. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by two sisters, Billie Augustine Wood and Gloria Sunshine Hicks.

Mrs. Pauline O. Gallegly
Mrs. Pauline O. Gallegly, age 86, of Hiram, Arkansas, passed away at her home on Friday, February 3, 2006. Born in Hiram on October 27, 1919, she was a lifetime resident of the Hiram community. Mrs. Gallegly was a homemaker, and her religious belief was Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harrison Gallegly, and her mother, Prudie Smith. Mrs. Gallegly is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Harry and Sharon Gallegly of Pangburn and Ferdie and Reta Gallegly of Wilburn; one daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Nick Stover of Arkadelphia; seven grandchildren and their spouses, LeeAnna and Joel Osborn, Justin and Shannon Stover, Sutton and Brandy Gallegly, Jeremy and Blair Gallegly, Cory Stover, Averie and Ashley Gallegly, and Boden and Star Gallegly; and six great-grandchildren, Eliza Stover, Gentry Stover, Morgan Gallegly, Colton Gallegly, Jessie Mason, and Kenlee Gallegly. Mrs. Gallegly is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

George R. Valenta
George R. Valenta, age 91, of Heber Springs, died at his home at 6:20 p.m. on December 17. He was born December 30, 1914 in the Pilson neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, to Rudolf and Marie (Holler) Valenta.
Mr. Valenta had been coming to Heber Springs on vacations since the early 70’s and became a full-time resident in May of 1985. He was a verification engineer retired from the Hawthorne plant of Western Electric and was nondenominational Christian in his religious belief.
Survivors include his younger brother Rudolf Valenta of Piedmont, Oklahoma; one son, George E. Valenta of Heber Springs; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Interment without ceremony as per his express request was in the Cleburne County Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be held on February 10 at 2:00 p.m. in the Olmstead Chapel.
Mr. Fell Hayes
Mr. Fell Hayes, age 84, of Pangburn, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2006, at White County Medical Center in Searcy, Arkansas. Born in Hiram, Arkansas, on May 2, 1921, he was the son of the late Wiley and Pearlie (Magness) Hayes.
Mr. Hayes was a plumber and a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army Air Corps. He had been a resident of Pangburn for most of his life and was a member of the Pangburn Methodist Church.
Mr. Hayes is survived by his wife, Mary Evelyn (Sanders) Hayes of Pangburn; one son, Danny Hayes of Searcy; one daughter, Melba Baker of Searcy; six grandchildren, Chuck Baker, Michael Baker, Brian Hayes, Danna Smith, and Cody Hayes, all of Searcy, and Darian Baker of Anchorage, Alaska; and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Hayes is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 3, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. in Heber Springs. Patricia Arlene Figueroa
Patricia Arlene Figueroa was born in Almond Arkansas on February 12, 1946. The Lord called her to rest on February 1st, 2006 at the age of 59.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband, John Figueroa, her parents, Hayden and Edna Cooper, a sister, Lona Redman Gilbert, and one grandson, Christopher Montalbo.
Pat was the mother to one daughter, Linda Montalbo of Concord, and five sons, Carl Sharp, Vic Sharp, Troy Sharp, John Figueroa, and Brandon Figueroa, all of Concord, Arkansas. She was also mother to an adopted grandson, Billy Figueroa. Pat is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
She spent all of her life as a dedicated mother, sister, grandmother and aunt and was a member of the Banner Church of Christ. She will forever be remembered for her loving kindness and compassion for others.
Visitation will be held at Olmstead Funeral Home on Friday, February 3rd.
Memorial services in celebration of Pat's life will be held at the Banner Church of Christ on Saturday February, 4th at 2:00 pm.
Mary Ann Spinks
Mary Ann Spinks, the daughter of Leonard and Ada Philamlee Seymour, was born in Ida, Arkansas, on December 30, 1923 and passed away at Southridge Village Retirement Center on March 24, 2006 at the age of 82 years. Mrs. Spinks was a homemaker and mother, and her religious belief was Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Spinks who passed away on June 21, 1982. She is survived by two sons Joe Spinks and wife Patricia of Heber Springs and Johnny Spinks and wife Kaythryn of Conway, and one daughter Wanda Hallum of Memphis, Tennessee. Mrs. Spinks is also survived by four grandchildren and two great grandchildren besides other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 26, at Olmstead Funeral Home from 4:00 until 6:00 PM, and funeral services will be graveside at Cleburne County Memorial Gardens on Monday, March 27, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Kenneth Rolland Jr. officiating. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.
Betty Lee Jensen
Betty Lee Jensen, the daughter of Steven A. and Lillian Cox Dodd passed away March 22, 2006 at her home in Heber Springs, Arkansas. Born December 25, 1931 in Southbend, Tennessee she was 74 years of age. Mrs. Jensen was a loving daughter, wife, mother and Christian. She is survived by: her husband Nels Paul Jensen, a son Nels P. Jensen, Jr and wife Peggy of Jacksonville, Florida a daughter Karen Lee Bailes and husband Tom of Mayflower, Arkansas, grandchildren Dane Jensen, Beth Jensesen, Erin Sellers, Jeremy Bailes and Justin Bailes. Great grandchildren Calib Sellers and Josh Sellers. Mrs. Jensen is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
Services will be held Monday, March 27, 2006 at 3:00 pm in the Olmstead Chapel with Nels P. Jensen, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Cleburne County Memorial Gardens.

Allie Batty Flowers
Allie Batty Flowers, age 83, of Salem, Arkansas, formerly of Heber Springs, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2006, at the Fulton County Hospital in Salem. Born in West Tawokni, Texas, on August 29, 1922, she was the daughter of the late William and Irene (Spencer) DeLoach.
Mrs. Flowers had been a resident of Salem for the past seven and a half years. She had previously lived in Heber Springs for thirty-four years and was a retired employee of the fish hatchery. Mrs. Flowers was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Church of Christ. Her husband, A. O. Flowers, preceded her in death on June 4, 1987. She was also preceded in death by her father and mother, two brothers, R. L. DeLoach and William DeLoach, and her twin sister.
She is survived by Tommy and Peggy Newman, Frank and Rene Cook, Dana and Daniel Newman, Mary Cornett, and Jordan, Cody, and Samantha Hammond. Mrs. Flowers is also survived by other relatives and her friends.
Graveside services and interment for Mrs. Flowers will be held Saturday, March 18, at 2:00 p.m. in the Pearson cemetery with Lance Mays officiating. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.
Shirley Earline Lewis
Shirley Earline Lewis, age 64, of Tumbling Shoals, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born in McCelland, Arkansas, in Woodruff County, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Asa and Bessie Ellen (Crumbley) Pruett.
Shirley was a quality control technician for Reliable Electric. A former resident of Addison, Illinois, she and her husband moved to Tumbling Shoals in 2000. Shirley was a hard worker and enjoyed working on their house. She also enjoyed taking trips and loved fishing, visiting with her family, and liked to cook. Her religious belief was Baptist. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Herbert Pruitt; and one sister, Mary DeWitt.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Earl Lewis of Tumbling Shoals, Arkansas; one stepson, James Earl Lewis of Hermitage, Tennessee; one brother, James (Dickie) Pruett of Hot Springs, Arkansas; three sisters, Barbara Kloss and Betty Snow, both of Des Arc, Arkansas, and Patricia Capshaw of Brinkley, Arkansas, numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Shirley is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Sondra S. Wood
Sondra S. Wood, 67 of Fairfield Bay, formerly of Kettering, Ohio, passed away Monday, March 13, 2006 at Conway Regional Hospital. She was born November 14, 1938 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Elmer E. Wood and Dorothy Wood.. She was a Residential Design Architect, a retired real estate broker and a member of Peace Lutheran Church. Sondra was a fun loving person who loved her God, enjoyed her time on the lake and her time with friends. Her dogs were her kids! She was a former member of the Peace Lutheran Church Council, she was a former member of the church choir and was a past vacation bible school instructor. Among the many "fun" things she did in life, Sondra was a High School Disc Jockey in Ohio. Sondra was preceded in death by her special friend Lera Rae. She is survived by many caring friends and her dedicated care givers. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 16th at Peace Lutheran Church, Edgemont, AR with Pastor Sue Flemr officiating. Entombment will be at Woodland Mausoleum in Ohio. Rev. James A. Tackett
Rev. James A. Tackett, 74, of Bee Branch went home to be with Jesus on Friday, March 10, 2006. James was Senior Pastor of Higden United Pentecostal Church. He pastored churches in Arkansas and Mississippi. His love for his family was surpassed only by his love of God.
He was proceeded in death by a son, Steven Craig, his parents, Killis and Zora Tackett, two brothers, Lester and Chester Tackett. James was survived by his loving wife Louie (Greenway) Tackett, two daughters, Carolyn Benton and husband, Russ of Greenbrier AR, Kathy Foster and husband Eddie of Bee Branch, AR, three granddaughters Jennifer (Eddie) Hurst, Latisha (Kenneth) Long and Alison Roberts and their families, six grandchildren Rachel Duncan, Jared Duncan, Alex Long, Chance Long, Chase Roberts, Skyler Roberts, and a brother, William Tackett of Schlater, MS. three sisters, Marie Bishop of Batesville AR, Lavada Foster of Floral, AR and Maxine Meeks of Concord, AR. He is also survived by many members of his extended family and his brothers and sisters in God’s family.
There will be a Celebration of his home going on Sunday, March 12, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. It will be held at the United Pentecostal Church in Higden, AR. Burial will follow at the Higden-McLehaney cemetery.
The visitation with the family will be Saturday, March 11, 2006 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. It will also be held at the United Pentecostal Church in Higden, AR.

James Laverle Birdsong
James Laverle Birdsong, born October 24, 1947, was called home on March 8 at Little Rock at the age of 58.
He was the son of Vermon and Juanita (Todd) Birdsong. He was preceded in death by his father who passed away on September 26, 1998.
James was a person who enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to hunt and fish; also a favorite pastime was spending time with his dog Buckshot.
He is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Vernell; two sons, Darrin and wife Kim of Ida, and Darryl and wife Cristy of Heber Springs; his mother, Juanita Birdsong of Greers Ferry; two sisters Marie (Birdsong) Carlton and husband Alvin of Prim and Vernita (Birdsong) Carr and husband Harold of Greers Ferry along with five grandchildren, Bailee Birdsong of Hopewell, Hayden and Katie Birdsong of Ida, Griffen Birdsong and Abbey Freeman of Heber Springs; and Kay Jones, the mother of Bailee. He is also survived by other relatives and many, many friends.

Ray Bradford
Ray Bradford, age 33, of Concord, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2006, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Heber Springs, Arkansas. Born in Heber Springs on September 14, 1972, he was the son of Sherry (Stark) Bradford Byrd and the late Cecil Bradford.
A lifetime resident of Cleburne County, Ray was a poultry contractor. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and his religious belief was Baptist. Ray was preceded in death by his father Cecil Bradford and by one brother Travis Bradford.
He is survived by his wife, Shannon Elizabeth (Burleson) Bradford of Concord; one son, Colton Ray Bradford of Concord; one daughter, Amber Nicole Bradford of Concord; his mother and stepfather, Sherry and Don Byrd of Drasco; one brother, Flint Lee Bradford of Drasco; two nephews, Jalynn Bradford and Halynn Gilpin, and one niece, Kalynn Bradford. Ray is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 7, at 1:00 p.m. in the Pleasant Ridge General Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Ridge cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kurt Moures, Randy Morris, John James, David McElroy, Kelly Verser, and Neal Huskey. Honorary pallbearers are Gary Lynn Southerland, Asa Davis, and Josh Lacey. David Roberts Clague
David Roberts Clague, the son of Coleman and Elizabeth Olson Clague, was born in New York City, New York, on September 2, 1925 and passed away at his home in Heber Springs, Arkansas, on March 4, 2006 at the age of 80 years.
Dave was a retired sales executive, a veteran of the United States Navy, a member of the Methodist Church where he was active in his church, a disciple of Bible studies, a Stephens minister and living waters Emmaus. He was an avid golfer who lived by the principals of the game honesty and integrity. He was a 24 year member of AA, a sponsor and a speaker on behalf of AA all over the world. Dave also tutored students in the Heber Springs School system.
He was preceded by his first wife Doris (Dorie) Weekly Clague in 1996 and his parents. Survivors are his wife Joy (Pinson) Clague of Heber Springs, three sons David Clague of East Wind, Missouri, Tim and Nedra Clague of Cedarburg, Wisconsin, and grandchildren Christopher Clague of London, England, and Courtney Chervany of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Doug and Julie Clague of Hartland, Wisconsin, and grandchildren Eric Pope and Kevin Soldwald also of Heartland, Wisconsin, two stepsons Harrold and Judy Crowder and grandchildren Caitlyn Crowder and Hailey Crowder, all of Heber Springs and Ken and Barbara Crowder of Heber Springs and grandchildren Kasey Crowder and Nick Crowder of Green Bay, Wisconsin.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at4:00 PM in the First United Methodist Church of Heber Springs with a visitation following the service by Rev. John Miles. Memorials may be made to the youth fund at First United Methodist Church at 11th & Pine Street, Heber Springs, AR 72543 or the charity of your choice.
