Alva Lee Harrison, age 71, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away at his home on Saturday, June 17, 2006. Born in Plainview, Texas, on June 23, 1934, he was the son of the late Raymond Alva and Mamie Lee (Foster) Harrison.
A former resident of Houston, Texas, Mr. Harrison was a regional manager of installation and repair for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for thirty-nine years. He was a member of Southwestern Bell Telephone Pioneer Club and enjoyed computers and repairing tools. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Harrison had lived in Heber Springs for six and a half years and was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-two years, Shelby Jean (Jenkins) Harrison of Heber Springs; one son, Michael Ray Harrison and his wife, Susie, of Hong Kong; two daughters, Leigh Ann Manis and her husband, Lee, of Nacogdoches, Texas; and Susan Jean Patterson and her husband, Ron, of Houston, Texas; one brother, James Harrison and his wife, Joyce, of Fairfield, California; seven grandchildren, Gloria Walker and her husband, Shane; Amanda Scarborough and her husband, Jerid; Brentt Manis, Isaac Harrison, Marie Harrison, Elizabeth Harrison, and Will Harrison; and four great-grandchildren, Taylor Scarborough, Bailey Walker, Kallie Walker, and Daniel Scarborough; and his nieces and nephews. Mr. Harrison is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 20, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 21, at 10:00 a.m. at the Heber Springs First Baptist Church with Dr. J. R. DeBusk officiating. Evelyn Gresham Fields
Evelyn Gresham Fields, age 88, of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2006, at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. Born in Pearson, Arkansas, on November 7, 1917, she was the daughter of the late John Anderson and Helen (Thompson) Gresham.
Mrs. Fields was an office manager for the Civil Service for twenty-eight years. A lifetime resident of Arkansas, she had lived at Parkway Village for the past sixteen years and enjoyed playing bridge, ball room dancing, and gardening. Mrs. Fields was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and Highland Methodist Church in Little Rock. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel Fields; one sister, Melva Moore; and three brothers, Wendell Gresham, Erben Gresham, and Joe Gresham.
Survivors include her daughter, Sheila Vancura and husband John of Little Rock; one brother, Guy Gresham of Heber Springs; and two grandchildren, David Vancura and Jenny Vancura Dillard. Mrs. Fields is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.
Visitation will begin Monday, June 19, at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Graveside services and interment will be held Tuesday, June 20, at 1:00 p.m. in Cleburne County Memorial Gardens with Rev. Kurt Bogan officiating. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.
Freda Louise (Faulkner) Smartt
Freda Louise (Faulkner) Smartt, age 71, of Marche Community near Maumelle and North Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away June 18, 2006, at the Lakewood Nursing and Rehab Center in North Little Rock. Born in Chatham, New York, on April 22, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Eva (Wheeler) Faulkner.
Mrs. Smartt was a retired employee of Maybelline Cosmetics. She was a member of the Morgan Full Gospel Church.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smartt was preceded in death by four sisters, Frances Hutching, Helen Faulkner, Carol (Geraldine) Olson and Sara Cairnes; and one brother, Ralph Faulkner Sr.
She is survived by her husband of almost 47 1/2 years, Benjamin Franklin Smartt of Marche Community (they married
December 24, 1958); one daughter, Lou Ann Sartin and her husband, Charles, of Marche Community; three grandchildren, Charles (Chip) Sartin Jr. of Mayflower, Jatonne Sartin of Marche Community and Beth Ward of Heber Springs; several great-grandchildren; five sisters, Marion Schwartz of West Bloomfield, Mich., Marilyn Demato of Vera, Fla., Mary Hutchings of Hudson, N. Y., Gladys Loy of Syracuse, N.Y. and Barbara Lauster of Chatham, N.Y.; two brothers, John (Josh) Faulkner of West Taconic, N.Y. and Benjamin Faulkner of Hudson, N.Y.; two special friends that are like daughters, Jan Martin and Cathy Kirkwood and others that called her mom, other relatives and a host of friends.
Visitation was held June 20 from 5-8 p.m.
Funeral services were held June 21 at 10:30 a.m. in the Parma Full Gospel Church with Bobby Don Wickliffe and Lovel Carlton officiating. Interment followed in the Smartt cemetery in Parma.

Leona Cranford
Leona Cranford, age 86, of Heber Springs departed this life to be with her Lord on Friday, June 16. Leona was born to John and Lula Nored Bittle on December 15, 1919 in the Pleasant Ridge community and was a life-long resident of Cleburne County. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Heber Springs.
Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman Cranford; her parents; sisters, Pearl Bittle, Lucy Estes, Lola Aldridge; brothers, Loyd, Thurman, and Wendell Bittle. She is survived by her nephew and caregiver, Andy Aldridge, a sister, Loreece Story, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services Monday, 10:00 a.m., Olmstead Chapel, Heber Springs. Interment Oak Grove cemetery.
Ruth E. Johnson
Ruth E. Johnson, age 89, of Channelview, Texas, passed away June 3, 2006 at Gardnerville, NV. Surviving her are her children Kathleen of Nevada and Frederick of California; and other family members. Ruth was married
for 58 years to James C. Johnson who passed away in May. She was an active 50 year member of East Houston Chapter 955, Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of Woodforest Presbyterian Church, Houston, TX.
Graveside services will be held June 19, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Heber Springs cemetery.

John L. Neely
John L. Neely, age 78, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2006, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. Born in the state of Arkansas, on November 16, 1927, he was the son of the late Jim and Jettie (Runsick) Neely.
Mr. Neely had lived at Fairfield Bay for two years and was a former resident of Grubbs. He was retired from Victor Metals in Newport and enjoyed fishing and baseball.
Mr. Neely was a member of the Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jim Neely, Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice (Cloud) Neely of Fairfield Bay; three sons, Wayne Neely of Manchester, Tennessee, David Neely of Batesville, and Keith Neely of Smyrna, Tennessee; one daughter, Nanette Crotts of Fairfield Bay; two brothers, Paul Neely of Pleasant Plains and Joe Neely of Tunica, Mississippi; one sister, Jan Edwards of Sulphur Springs, Texas; eight grandchildren, Jonathan Neely of Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany, Shannon Neely of Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska, Kayland Neely of Amagon, Jamie Mosher of Dayton, Ohio, Kyle Neely of Batesville, Jason Crotts and Micah Crotts of Lexington, Kentucky, and Carina Crotts of Washington, D.C., and eight great-grandchildren.Mr. Neely is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Cloyce Ray Cannon
Cloyce Ray Cannon, age 82, of Drasco, Arkansas, passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 14, 2006. Born in Drasco on June 24, 1923, he was the son of the late Noah and Lura Dean (Seavers) Cannon.
Mr. Cannon was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. He married
the former Dorothy Lee Peel on July 27, 1946 and was a wonderful husband and father who loved his family. A lifetime resident of Drasco, Mr. Cannon was a farmer, raising cattle and broilers. He enjoyed riding his four-wheeler, checking on his cattle, and also working at the sale barn. Mr. Cannon was a charter member of the Drasco General Baptist Church and attended services when his health permitted. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Ray Cannon, on January 14, 2006, and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Cluster Cannon and Doyle Cannon.
Mr. Cannon is survived by his wife of sixty years, Dorothy Cannon of Drasco; one daughter, Nita Jean Altom and her husband, Vernon, of Ida; one sister, Nelda Jean Davis of Drasco; two grandchildren, Dr. Melissa Lamb and her husband, Glen, and Ashley Altom; two great-grandchildren, Noah Elijah Lamb and Hunter Glen Lamb; and his nieces and nephews. Mr. Cannon is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

David M. Pate
David M. Pate, age 61, of Quitman, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2006, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Heber Springs. Born March 31, 1945 in Heber Springs, he was the son of the late Oney and Ada (Brawley) Pate.
David was married
to the former Brenda Turney on August 8, 1966. After retiring from military service in the United States Army, he was employed by Terminix and became manager of the Heber Springs office. Apart from his military service, he was a lifetime resident of Cleburne County. David enjoyed being with his grandson and family, as well as farming and raising cattle. He was a lifetime member of the Holland Masonic Lodge and a former Master of the lodge. David was a member of Quitman First Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School teacher and sound system operator. He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law, Albert Turney, and one half brother, Eugene Pate.
David is survived by his wife of forty years, Brenda Pate of Quitman; two daughters, LaTonya Pate of Claremore, Oklahoma; and LaDonna Martin and her husband, Bryan, of Quitman, one grandson, Joshua David Martin of Quitman; his uncle, F. M. Brawley of Lenexa, Kansas; and his mother-in-law, Maxine Turney of Quitman. David is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Syble Louise Foley Sharp Smith
Syble Louise Foley Sharp Smith, 66, of Heber Springs, died at her home June 1, 2006. She was born January 7, 1940 to David Leroy Foley (New Albany, MS) and the late Mattie Lee Foley. She retired from the West Memphis School District after 24 years teaching 3rd grade at Dabbs and Faulk Elementary. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Memphis, TN, a member of ADK teachers sorority, and had a love for gardening. She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert W. Sharp. She is survived by her husband, Robert E. Smith, Sr. of Heber Springs, AR; son, Dr. Richard Sharp (Stella) of Texarkana, TX; daughter, Andrea Trent (David) of Little Rock, AR; brother, Gerald Foley (Barbara) of Kansas City, MO; extended family, Robert Smith, Jr. of Signal Mountain, TN, Regina Culbertson of Vancover, WA, Kathryn Smith of Hartsell, AL; four grandchildren and six step-grandchildren, countless relatives and friends.

Sheila K. Stevens
Sheila K. Stevens, age 62, of Tumbling Shoals, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Heber Springs. Born in Winchester, Kentucky, on May 20, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Paul Harmon and Virdell (Zetzsche) Gribbins.
Sheila was a homemaker and a loving mother. A resident of Tumbling Shoals for most of her life, she enjoyed giving to other people and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Sheila enjoyed bingo.
She is survived by her husband, Carl Stevens of Tumbling Shoals; two daughters, Carla Stevens Parker and her husband, Darius, of Shalimar, Florida, and Crystal Marie Stevens of Little Rock; one grandchild, Sydney Parker; and two nieces, Judy Balderree and Brenda Vann. Sheila is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Theodore A. Floyd
Theodore A. Floyd, age 72, of Pangburn, Arkansas, passed away at White County Medical Center in Searcy on Wednesday, May 31, 2006 after a long illness. Ted was born August 2, 1933 in McJester, Arkansas, to Edgar and Lettie Rose Floyd, both deceased. He was raised by father Edgar and stepmom Sarah Floyd, also deceased.
Ted moved to Mishawaka, Indiana, in 1951 and worked at Ball Band (Uniroyal) from 1951 to 1955 until he was drafted. He served in the Navy from Dec. 20, 1955 to Nov. 30, 1961 aboard the S.S. Saratoga. After the Navy he returned to his job at Ball Band where he worked until his retirement April 19, 1985 after 34 1/2 years of service. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Elkhart, Indiana, and the American Legion. Ted was a member of McJester Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Borden Floyd of Mesquite, Texas; one sister, Annabelle Hill of Pangburn; and two brothers-in-law, Irwin McDaniel and Harold Haile.
He is survived by his wife, Hannah (Ann) Floyd, whom he married
on July 25, 1977 in Pangburn. They moved to Pangburn from Osceola, Indiana, on May 27, 1985.
He is survived by a son, Ted Ballard of Britton, Michigan; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jimmy Floyd and Freda of Pangburn and Matt Floyd of Pangburn, six sisters and their husbands, Eloise and Robert Klebacher of Oradell, New Jersey, Louise McDaniel of Bradford, Nellie and Alton Jackson of Quitman, Sylvia and Dewitt O’Donely of Santa Fe, Texas, Dorothy Haile of Pangburn, and Linda Lathrop of Pangburn; He is also survived by four stepchildren and their spouses, Diane Sellers and Richard, Sr. of Mishawaka, Indiana, William Sexton, Jr. and Josette of Arizona, Mark Sexton of Pangburn, and Trena Vernon and Billy of Columbus, Mississippi; 15 step-grandchildren, 10 step-great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Emmett Hill of Pangburn, and his sister-in-law, Susan Floyd.
His favorite hobbies were bowling, dancing, listening to country music and watching the NASCAR races. Ted was a great man, and even as sick as he was, he would give you a great big smile that would light up the room. He loved to laugh and cut-up with his family and friends, and we love him and will miss him very much. God, please take care of him until we can see him again.

Ozella Ghent Hughes
Ozella Ghent Hughes, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away Monday, May 29, at the age of 100 years. Mrs. Hughes was born January 4, 1906, one of six daughters of William and Stella Bentley Ghent.
Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her husband, Everett J. Hughes, one son, Max Hughes, one granddaughter, Suzanne Hughes Darden, and five sisters, Anna Belle Smith, Myrtle Ghent, Ollie Speed, Ruby Jane McAnear, and Jewell Love Hulse.
Mrs. Hughes is survived by one son, Jerry (Carolyn) Hughes; one daughter, June Ellen (Harold) Verser of Heber Springs; daughter-in-law, Florence Hughes of Richland, Washington; eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild. She is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and other relatives.
Mrs. Hughes was a lifetime member of Church of the Nazarene where she was an active member until failing health prevented her from attending. Mrs. Hughes held several church offices and had taught Sunday School. She was also a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Hughes was a homemaker until her children were grown, when she then worked as a nurse at the Heber Springs Hospital and the Cleburne County Hospital where she retired.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 2, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 3, at 10:00 a.m. at Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Jim Hughes officiating. Interment will follow in Cleburne County Memorial Gardens. Myrtie T. Everett
Myrtie T. Everett, the daughter of Robert (Bob) and Nancy Williams Thomas, was born in Stone County on August 30, 1910 and passed away in Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, on May 28, 2006 at the age of 95 years.
Mrs. Everett was a housewife, and her religious belief was Pentecostal. She enjoyed cooking, quilting and being with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl Everett, two sons Stanley and Denzil, a brother Ulyss Thomas, a sister Myrtle Everett, and John D., an infant son, and one other infant child. She is survived by a son, Bobby Lee Everett and wife Georgia of Prim; and two daughters, Erma Dean Bittle of Edgemont and Ruth Stone of Greers Ferry. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 13 great, great grandchildren besides other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 30, at 2:00 p.m. in the Prim Full Gospel Church with Bro. Dennis Knapp officiating. Interment will follow in the Everett cemetery. Theresa "Terry" Hapke
Theresa "Terry" Hapke, age 84, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away at home on Sunday, May 21, 2006. A former resident of Decatur, Illinois, and Kansas City, Missouri, Mrs. Hapke had been a resident of Fairfield Bay since 1987. She is survived by her husband, Art Hapke; daughters, Gretchen (Lee) Sherk and Martha (Mike) Flaherty; and three grandsons, Kyle Sherk and his wife, Vanessa, Christopher and Patrick Arthur-Flaherty.

Kenneth Harold Turney
Kenneth Harold Turney, age 68, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away June 29, 2006. Born in Heber Springs on January 21, 1938, he was the son of the late John and Winnie Turney. A former resident of Mt. Home, Mr. Turney was retired from General Motors, and he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Survivors include his son, Floyd Earl Turney, his daughters, Betty Eulaine Edwards and Wanda Lee Crafton; and his brother, Howard Turney. Mr. Turney is also survived by other relatives and his friends.

Rowena (Mayo) Linn
Rowena (Mayo) Linn, age 66, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Monday, July 24, 2006, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born in Maury City, Tennessee, on July 25, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Bertha (Cogburn) Mayo.
A resident of Heber Springs since 1980, Mrs. Linn and her husband, John, had owned and operated Charcoal John’s, a local restaurant. She was a member of the Heber Springs Humane Society. Her husband, John Howard Linn, preceded her in death on February 7, 1994.
She is survived by one son, Johnny Linn, Jr. of Cordova, Tennessee; one daughter, Mintha Williams of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; and two grandchildren. Mrs. Linn is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 27, at 11:00 a.m. in the Olmstead Chapel. Interment will be in the Nunn cemetery in Maury City, Tennessee. Memorials may be made to the Heber Springs Humane Society. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.
