Daniel Patrick McCarthy, age 81, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2006 at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Heber Springs. Born in Kewanee, Illinois, on November 10, 1925, he was the son of the late John and Ellen (Neal) McCarthy.
Mr. McCarthy was a truck driver and a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Stone City Post and a member of the American Legion. A resident of Heber Springs since 1989, Mr. McCarthy enjoyed traveling in his recreational vehicle and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Lois (Bengson) McCarthy of Heber Springs; two daughters, Doris Ann Azman of Marseilles, Illinois, and Laurie Power and husband, Tim, of Prior Lake, Minnesota; his sister-in-law, Doris Stabler of Plainfield, Illinois; four grandchildren, Charles D. Azman, Christiane Azman, Amber Lyn Azman, and Zoe Power. Mr. McCarthy is also survived by other relatives and many good friends.

Leo Lawrence Dressler
Leo Lawrence Dressler, age 71, of Edgemont, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, November 12, 2006, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born in Kansas City, Kansas, on February 12, 1935, he was the son of the late Joseph Newton Dressler and Gladys Margarete (Lawrence) Dressler.
Mr. Dressler was a retired lineman for the Board of Public Utilities in Kansas City, Kansas, and had served in the National Guard. He was a former resident of Kansas City, Kansas, and had lived in Edgemont since 1990. Mr. Dressler enjoyed hunting, fishing, and taking care of his yard, and he was a NASCAR fan. His religious belief was Catholic.
Mr. Dressler was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Craig Allen Dressler; and his brother and sister-in-law, Donald Dean and Judy Dressler.
Survivors include his wife, Naomi Irene (Bushnell) Dressler of Edgemont, Arkansas; one stepdaughter, Debra Walters and her companion, Dan O’Hare, of Kansas City, Kansas; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert J. and Jan Dressler of Kansas City, Kansas; one sister and brother-in-law, Delores M. and Gene Patterson of Trinity, Florida; and his nieces and nephews. Mr. Dressler is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Carol Jean Oja
Carol Jean Oja, age 79, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2006, at Prim, Arkansas. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on October 31, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Arthur W. and Theresa (Carroll) Orth.
A resident of Heber Springs since 1989, Mrs. Oja was a homemaker and a member of the West Side Baptist Church. She had served in the WACs during the Korean War.
Her husband, Fenton Oja, preceded her in death in 1973.
Mrs. Ona is survived by her friends, including Josie Lockard of Prim, AR.
Commander Albert Hugh Magie, Jr.
Commander Albert Hugh Magie, Jr., U.S. Navy, Retired, age 85, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Monday, October 30, 2006, at Southridge Village Retirement Center in Heber Springs. Born in England, Arkansas, on March 5, 1921, he was the son of the late Albert H. Magie, Sr. and Rose Beauchamp Magie.
Mr. Magie attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello (formerly A & M). His flight training for the United States Navy was in Pensacola, Florida. Mr. Magie was a retired Navy pilot, having served as a commander for twenty-six years. A veteran of World War II, he was the first veteran from Greers Ferry to join the V.F.W. and was also a member of the Retired Military Officers Club. He was a past member of the Rotary Club. Upon his retirement from the United States Navy, Mr. Magie worked as a real estate agent. A former resident of Pine Bluff, Mr. Magie had lived in Heber Springs since 1979 and was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jean Easterly Magie, and by two brothers, Cone Magie and Leland Beauchamp Magie.
Survivors include his wife, Grace (Ratcliff) Tilley Magie of Heber Springs, AR; one son, Richard C. Magie and wife, Frances of Bedford, New Hampshire; two daughters, Karen Sue Berry and husband, Thomas, of Pine Bluff, AR, and Nancy Jo Daniels of Little Rock, AR; three stepsons, Bryan Tilley of Heber Springs, AR, and James Tilley and William Tilley, both of Little Rock, AR; two brothers, J. J. Magie, M.D., of Morrilton, AR, and Casey Magie of Darwin, Australia; twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Mr. Magie is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
Graveside services with military honors will be held Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 10:00 a.m. in the Mulberry cemetery at England, Arkansas. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the VPB 121 Squadron. Patrick James Timothy Kelly
Patrick James Timothy Kelly, age 71, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Monday, October 30, 2006, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born in Detroit, Michigan, on March 7, 1935, he was the son of the late Patrick and Mattie (O’Brien) Kelly.
Mr. Kelly was a truck driver. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and Army, and he was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. Mr. Kelly enjoyed cooking. His religious belief was Catholic.
He is survived by his wife, Lena (Manley) Kelly of Heber Springs; two sons, Patrick Kelly of Heber Springs and Bobby Green of El Dorado; two daughters, Debra McCullar of Junction City and Linda Porter of El Dorado; one brother, Douglas Burke of Rockford, Illinois; one sister, Alegra Greene of Iuka, Mississippi; one stepsister, Melavee Hoffman of Jonesboro; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Kelly is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Mildred E. Waller
Mildred E. Waller, 91, of Quitman, AR, passed away at Heber Springs, AR, Sunday, October 29, 2006.
Born at DeWitt, Arkansas, on January 1, 1915 to Louis and Nora Purdy, Mildred grew up on a farm in Arkansas County with her parents, three brothers and two sisters. Being the oldest of six children, Milly was looked upon by her siblings as the matriarch. She survived all of them.
Milly married
John L. Waller on November 1, 1936, at Cornerstone, AR. They raised their family in Pine Bluff where they owned and operated Waller Radio and TV Sales and Service until 1976. Upon retirement, they moved to Pryor Mountain near Quitman, AR. Their home at 325 Waller Road remains a beautiful sight where Milly devoted many hours doing what she loved best, gardening and beautifying the landscape. John preceded her in death on April 18, 2006. She was also preceded in death by brothers Walton, Harold, and Shannon Purdy, and sisters Lillian Purdy Smith and Lewisene Purdy Ballard.
She and John were members of the Palestine Baptist Church at Quitman where they enjoyed the fellowship and activities with their many friends.
She is survived by three daughters, Bobbie O’Brien of Kerrville, TX, Johnisue Conger of Oklahoma City, OK, and Jenny Sartain of Greers Ferry, AR; six grandchildren, Jeri Joachim and Alana Poole of Chandler, AZ, Robert Conger of Plano, TX, David Conger of San Marcus, TX, Brian Sartain of Tulsa, OK, and Caroline Sartain of Memphis, TN. She has four great grandchildren, Lindsay Mahoney, Matthew Poole, Tara King, and Julia Conger.

John Clifton Nabors
John Clifton Nabors, age 47, of Rose Bud, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2006, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born in Marianna, Arkansas, on August 13, 1959, he was the son of Dorothy (McGee) Nabors and the late Lenard Nabors.
A former resident of Little Rock, John was a maintenance worker and had lived in the Rose Bud area for the past three years. He served as a volunteer fireman with Cane Creek in Hensley, Arkansas. John was a third degree black belt in taekwondo and was a certified instructor. He enjoyed hunting and Razorback basketball. John was a member of the East Union Missionary Baptist Church in Little Rock. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, James Nabors.
Survivors include his wife, Lynnette Pamela (Barnes) Nabors of Rose Bud; two daughters, Krystine Dorothy Nabors of North Little Rock, and Brittany Nicole Aldridge of Rose Bud; his mother, Dorothy Nabors of Alexander; three brothers, Charles Nabors of Malvern, Ronald Nabors of Bauxite, and Donald Nabors of Alexander; and one sister, Maxine Messick of Alexander. John is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Billy Charles Vaughn
Billy Charles Vaughn, age 66, of Greers Ferry, Arkansas, passed away at his home on Wednesday, December 20, 2006. Born in Heber Springs, Arkansas, on September 14, 1940, he was the son of the late Finley Lee (F. L.) and Prudie Mae Smith Vaughn.
Mr. Vaughn had been a resident of Russell, Arkansas, for twenty-two years and had recently moved to Greers Ferry where he lived for three months. He was a factory worker and loved the lake, going fishing, and camping. Mr. Vaughn was a member of the Russell Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by one son, Richard Neal Vaughn.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Kay (Campbell) Vaughn of Greers Ferry; one son, Billy Vaughn, Jr. and wife, Janet, of Searcy; two daughters, Pamela Kay Wilhelm and husband, Richard, of Port St. Lucy, Florida, and Karen Sue Smith and husband, Dennis, of Greers Ferry; two sisters, Geraldine Henderson of Judsonia and Carol Ingram and husband, Jess, of Arley, Alabama; eight grandchildren, one step grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Vaughan is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

James Michael 'Mike' Goines
James Michael 'Mike' Goines, age 52, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away at home on Wednesday, December 13, 2006. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, on October 14, 1954, he was the son of Alice Annette (Pinnix) Shipley and the late James Leland Goines.
A resident of Cleburne County for ten years, Mike was a mechanical engineer. His religious belief was Baptist. Survivors include one son, James Hunter Goines of Memphis, Tennessee; two daughters, Jessica Goines and Katie Goines, both of Heber Springs; his mother and stepfather, Alice Annette and Arthur Shipley of Memphis, Tennessee; one brother, Chris Baker of Knoxville, Tennessee; two sisters, Janice Bowen of Virginia, and Linda Badgett of Memphis, Tennessee; and one grandchild. Mike is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Joyce Dean Pearcy
Joyce Dean Pearcy, age 68, of Drasco, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 30, 2006. She died after a lengthy illness in Little Rock with her family by her side. Joyce was born in Dumas, Arkansas, on June 22, 1938 and was the daughter of the late Albert and Eunice Huffman.
Mrs. Pearcy lived in the Egypt and Jonesboro areas before retiring from General Electric and moving to Drasco twelve years ago. She enjoyed bass fishing and competing in tournaments. Mrs. Pearcy was a member of the Drasco General Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Eunice Huffman, as well as a sister, Albertine Muir. She is survived by: her husband, Bob Pearcy of Drasco; three daughters, Jackie Marvin of Little Rock, Sandy Irsch and husband, Craig, of Searcy; and Robin Watts and husband, Greg, of Jonesboro; one son, Vince Pearcy of Jonesboro; three brothers, Welby Huffman of Swifton, R. M. Huffman of Corning, and Roy Huffman of Hardy; two sisters, Lavada Crisler of Cash, and Connie Watson of Dallas. Joyce also had five grandchildren, Jessica Harris of Little Rock, Cody Hawkins of Mesa, Arizona, Jansen Hawkins of Fayetteville, Shauna Walton of Conway, and Kristin Etter of Jonesboro; along with one great grandchild.

Russell Adams
Russell Adams, age 86, of Conway, Arkansas, died Tuesday, January 23, 2007, at Conway Regional Medical Center. He was born October 31, 1920, in Davis, Missouri, to William and Pearl Adams.
Russ was preceded in death by his parents; a special uncle and aunt, Hutt and Emma Owen; sisters, Muriel Colbert and Pauline Klotz; brothers, Claude, Raymond, Robert and Gilbert Adams; and stepson, James Guyot.
He is survived by his wife, June; daughter, Carole Adams and her husband, Jim, stepson, Steven Guyot and his wife, Jackie; granddaughter, Heather Ferguson; step-granddaughter, Catherine Guyot; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Russ was a World War II veteran, serving in the Navy on troop and ammunition ships. He was a member of Quitman Baptist Church, a licensed plumber, owner of Adams Plumbing and Lakeside Resort in Heber Springs, and retired from the Arkansas State Health Department as plumbing inspector in 1987.

Maxine Virginia Porter Yow
Maxine Virginia Porter Yow, age 95, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, Jan. 18, 2007, at the Golden Living Center in Heber Springs. Born in London, Arkansas, on December 13, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Maggie (Burton) Porter.
A resident of Heber Springs since 1974, Mrs. Yow was a homemaker, and she did volunteer work for Cleburne County Cares. She was a member of the Heber Springs First General Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Yow, on February 8, 1990.
Survivors include her son, Gary Yow and his wife, Reba, of Heber Springs; her daughter, Miriam Lee and her husband, Herman, of Batesville; three grandchildren, Douglas Lee and his wife, Jan, Rhomie King and her husband, David, and Vicki Witherspoon and her husband, Thomas; and four great-grandchildren, Caitlin King, Ethan King, Stephanie Witherspoon, and Sarah Witherspoon.

Mr. Tollie Avon Martin
Mr. Tollie Avon Martin, age 86, of Drasco, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2007, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. Born in Sulphur Springs, Texas, on September 12, 1920, he was the son of the late Andrew and Maude (Chestnut) Martin.
Mr. Martin was a retired automobile maintenance superintendent. A resident of Drasco for the past thirty-five years, he worked as a fishing guide on the Little Red River for twenty years and also operated Martin Bait. Mr. Martin was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army for four years. His religious belief was Baptist. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Chloe (Graham) Martin of Drasco; his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Anita Martin of Maumelle; his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and David Carlton of Higden; one sister, Erma Clark of Heber Springs; and four grandchildren, Hannah and Ashley Martin of Maumelle and Corey and Shawna Carlton of Higden. Mr. Martin is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Brenda Joyce Burton
Brenda Joyce Burton, age 49, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away at her home on Wednesday, December 27, 2006. Born in Vineland, New Jersey, on October 28, 1957, she was the daughter of Edward H. Cline and Wanda J. (Shaver) Moore.
Brenda was a homemaker and had been a resident of Heber Springs for one year. She was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served for five years. Her religious belief was Baptist. Brenda was preceded in death by her Grandma Cline.
She is survived by her husband, John Burton of Heber Springs; one son, Josh Burton of Heber Springs; her father, Edward H. Cline; her mother, Wanda J. Moore; two brothers, Eddie Cline and Brian Cline; two sisters, Stacey Barker and Linda Dorr; five nieces and nine nephews. Brenda is also survived by other relatives and friends.

Vincent Victor Sharpe
Vincent Victor Sharpe, the son of Sidney Billingsley and Susan Rosalee Sturvyvant Sharpe was born in Memphis, Tennessee on November 26, 1921 and passed away at his home on February 1, 2007 at the age of 85 years. He was a retired salesman and was self employed, a veteran of the United States Navy he served during WWII on the USS Intrepid aircraft carrier and he enjoyed golf and woodworking, was an artist and a craftsman. He was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church of Fairfield Bay. Survivors are two sons David B. Sharpe of Edgemont, Arkansas and Dana M. Sharpe of Adel, Georgia, a daughter Diana M. Sasnett of Pensacola, Florida, a brother Paul Sharpe and a sister Jean Gardner, three grandchildren Staci Sharpe, Wendy Williams and Larry G. Dowell and three great grandchildren Carter Vincent Williams, Avrey Layton Williams and Larry G. Dowell. A rosary will be held on Monday, February 5 at 9:30 AM at St. Francis Catholic Church in Fairfield Bay with a funeral mass at 10:00 AM at the church by Fr. Bill Elser. Mr. Laverne Trammell, age 83, of Greers Ferry, Arkansas, passed away Monday, January 29, 2007, at his home. Born in Shiloh, Arkansas, on April 9, 1923, he was the son of the late Lonnie and Dollie (Huggins) Trammell.
Mr. Trammell was a farmer and truck driver. He enjoyed his family, his grandchildren, truck driving, farming, and fishing. Mr. Trammell was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Leroy Trammell; and four brothers, Ralph Trammell, Ray Trammell, Kenneth Trammell, and Buel Trammell.

Irma Dean Stevens
Irma Dean Stevens, age 81, of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away Monday, March 26, 2007, at the Southwest Nursing Home in Little Rock. Born in Heber Springs, Arkansas, on April 6, 1925, she was the daughter of the late William Mark and Florence Marie (Davis) Stevens.
She was a longtime resident of Southwest Homes in Little Rock, and she was a member of the Primrose Methodist Church in Little Rock.
Miss Stevens was preceded in death by both of her parents; one brother, Jerry Stevens; and one sister-in-law, Sheila Stevens.
She is survived by two brothers, Carl Stevens of Heber Springs and Kelly Stevens and his wife, Sharon, of Jacksonville; her sister-in-law, Mary Lou Stevens of Cabot; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of friends. The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to the staff of Southwest Homes.
