Terry Wayne Dunn

Terry Wayne Dunn, age 35, of Higden, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2008, at the Ozark Health Medical Center in Clinton. Born in Heber Springs on November 7, 1972, he was the son of the late Bobby Wayne Dunn and Linda Kaye (Stark) Dunn Hutto.

Terry was a carpenter and had served in the Arkansas Army National Guard. He was a lifetime resident of Cleburne County and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, floating on the river, and hanging out with his friends. His religious belief was Baptist. Terry was preceded in death by both of his parents and his grandparents.

He is survived by one sister, Tonya Allison and her husband, Wes, of Hot Springs and one niece, Alyssa, also of Hot Springs. Terry is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 10, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 11, at 10:00 a.m. in the Shiloh Cross Roads Church with Rev. Dennis Knapp officiating. Interment will follow in the Shiloh Cross Roads cemetery. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Wayne Edward Jenkins

Wayne Edward Jenkins, age 89, of Concord, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at the White River Medical Center in Batesville. Born in Trenton, Missouri, on May 15, 1919, he was the son of the late David and Avanelle (Alter) Jenkins.

Mr. Jenkins was a former resident of Searcy, having moved to Concord in 1994, and he was a retired courier for Dexter Aerospace. Mr. Jenkins was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army for approximately two years. He enjoyed his pets and his life with his wife Velma. Mr. Jenkins was a member of the Concord First Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters.

Mr. Jenkins is survived by his wife, Velma Jenkins of Concord; four sons, Leonard Brock and wife, Sandy, of Concord, James Brock and wife, Terry, of Batesville, Doug Brock and wife, Theresa, of Texas, and John Brock and wife, Nora, of Greers Ferry; four daughters, Linda Anderson and husband, Stanley, of California, Hilda McDowell of Florida, Naomi Eason of Indiana, and Vickie Mitchell and husband, Junior, of Concord; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Jenkins is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 5, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 6, at 2:00 p.m. in the Concord First Baptist Church with Bro. Terry Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Concord cemetery. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Delores Ann Rogers

Delores Ann Rogers, age 73, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. Born in Greenfield, Iowa, on December 3, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Velva Lydon.

Mrs. Rogers was a retired school teacher and had been a resident of Heber Springs since 1975. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Rogers’ religious belief was of the Methodist faith.

Her husband, Ralph Rogers, preceded her in death in 1994. She was also preceded in death by both of her parents.

Survivors include two sons, Richie Rogers of Heber Springs and Michael Rogers and his wife Lydia of Russellville; two brothers, Lawrence Lydon and Bobby Lydon, both of Iowa; one sister, Arlene Jensen of Iowa; and three grandchildren. Mrs. Rogers is also survived by her many friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 6, at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Graveside services and interment will be held Saturday, June 7, at 10:00 a.m. at Cleburne County Memorial Gardens with Dr. David Bush officiating. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Leslie Francis Holdman

Leslie Francis Holdman, age 83, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at his home. Born in Bonne Terre, Missouri, on September 24, 1924, he was the son of the late Oran Jerome and Naomi (Daugherty) Holdman.

Mr. Holdman graduated from Missouri School of Mines with a degree in Electrical Engineering, and served a full career for Schlumberger Oil Company. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Navy, and he was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Mr. Holdman was a member of the Fairfield Bay Rotary Club, the Lions Club, the Masonic Samaritan Lodge #424 in Bonne Terre, Missouri, and the Indian Rock Village Auxiliary. He enjoyed golf and music. Mr. Holdman was a member of the Presbyterian Kirk of the Hills at Fairfield Bay.

Mr. Holdman is survived by his wife, Vernalese (Vernie) Holdman of Fairfield Bay; two sons, David Holdman (Ahn), of Texas, and Paul Cameron ( Jan), of North Carolina; three daughters, Paula Moore (Don), of Tennessee, Jan Crocker (Bob) of Texas, and Cheri Son (Cody) of Oklahoma; one stepdaughter, Alesa Carlton (John), of Prim, AR; two brothers, Stan Holdman (Bobbie) of Florida, and Ken Holdman of California; 9 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 6 step-great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 7, at 11:00 a.m. in the Presbyterian Kirk of the Hills. Memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Kirk of the Hills, 250 Dave Creek Parkway, Fairfield Bay, AR 72088, or Alzheimer’s Arkansas, 10411 W. Markham, Suite 130, Little Rock, AR 72205-1409. Amanda Elizabeth Giles

Amanda Elizabeth Giles, of Quitman went to be with her Lord on Friday, August 29, 2008 after a three year courageous battle with Neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer. Born December 27, 1982, in Searcy, AR to Susan Ann (Todd) and John Edwin Giles, Jr.; she was 25 years of age.

Amanda was a member of Palestine Baptist Church and a student at Arkansas Tech University.

She was a senior double-majoring in Wellness Science and Kinesiology.

Amanda was also a member of a Relay for Life team at Tech.

While at Tech, Amanda participated in intramural sports, was a member of the Kinesiology Club, and served as the President of the Caraway Hall Government.

Amanda played basketball in high school and then at the collegiate level at Central Baptist College before transferring to ATU. She received numerous awards during her 10 year span of play, including being recognized as the All-State Outstanding Player of the Year, and was All-State as well as All-Region.

She was a 2001 honor graduate of Quitman High School and received numerous academic awards.

She was a member of the BETA Club, FBLA, FCCLA, and the Student Council.

Amanda was a lover of all animals, especially any stray animal! Amanda grew up on a farm, always having a special spot in the garden for her sunflowers and was a self-professed "tom-boy", not that she could help it with three brothers! She enjoyed children, playing sports, and spending time visiting and playing games with family and friends.

Amanda had an amazing creative ability for crocheting, drawing painting and designing almost anything.

Her happy and courageous disposition and courageous effort to defeat her illness endeared her to those who knew and loved her, especially those nurses and doctors at Arkansas Children's Hospital and at the Methodist Children's Cancer and Research Center in San Antonio, Texas, where she had two transplants and numerous treatments.

A motto in Amanda's life was "Be kind to a stranger for you just might be entertaining an angel."

Amanda is now truly God's angel, and she will be exceedingly missed.

She is also survived by three brothers, Robert Todd Giles (her twin) and his wife Ashlee of Bismarck, Jonathan Daniel Giles of Quitman, Jason Edward Giles and his wife Rachel of Heber Springs, her fiance, SSgt. Matthew Vincent Pukas of Little Rock AFB, two nieces Shelby Giles and Kaiya Giles, two nephews Noah and Braiden Giles, other relatives and a host of many friends. Amanda was preceded in death by her brother Michael Lee Giles, grandparents Charlie Daniel and Ethel Marie Todd of Quitman and John Edwiti and Blanch Irene Giles of Malvern.

Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at Olmstead Funeral Home from 4:00 - 9:00 pm with Services being held in the Quitman First Baptist Church on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at 4:00 pm with Rev. Terry Hill and Rev. John Powers officiating. Pallbearers are Daniel Graham, Bryan Holliman, Tyler Whiteaker, Chief VanScoy, Michael Miguet, SSgt. Jonathan Pearsall and Chris Griffith. Honorary Pallbearers are David Becton, M.D., Ruth Landers, A.P.N., Michael Grimley, M.D., Robert Saylers, M.D. and Dr. Annette Holeyfield. Interment will follow in the Pearson cemetery.

The family requests that Memorials be made to First Arkansas Bank and Trust to an account set up in Amanda’s name for future project and study in her memory at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

SHERLON FOUST

SHERLON FOUST, THE SON OF IKE AND LOTTIE SALTER FOUST, WAS BORN IN IDA, ARKANSAS, ON MAY 29, 1928, AND passed away IN HEBER SPRINGS, ARKANSAS ON DECEMBER 30, 2002 AT THE AGE OF 74 YEARS.

MR. FOUST WAS A LIFETIME RESIDENT OF CLEBURNE COUNTY, A MEMBER OF THE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF HEBER SPRINGS, WHERE HE WAS ACTIVE IN THE CHURCH AND MEMBER OF THE CHURCH CHIOR~ HE WAS A RETIRED BUSINESSMAN HAVING OWNED AND OPERATED VARIOUS BUSINESSES IN HEBER SPRINGS INCLUDING THE FOUST MOTEL, FOUST DEPARTMENT STORE, THE OZARK TRAIL MOTEL, DAM SITE MARINA, FOUST FORD MOTOR COMPANY, HEBER SPRINGS WHOLESALE GROCERY AND ACTIVE IN REAL ESTATE SALES IN THE COMMUNITY. HE WAS A MASON AND JUSTICE OF THE PEACE OF CLEBURNE COUNTY FOR 25 YEARS. HE ENJOYED BOATING AND RV TRAVEL BIRD HUNTING AND FISHING.

MR. FOUST WAS PRECEEDED IN DEATH BY THREE BROTHERS, AUSTIN FOUST, EARL FOUST AND CARL FOUST.

HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE, WINCLE HENDERSON FOUST, ONE SON, SIIAWN FOUST AND DAUGHTER-IN-LAW, BEVERLY OF RUSSELVILLE, ARKANSAS, ONE DAUGHTER, SHAY CRESSWELL AND SON-IN-LAW, GARY OF HEBER SPRINGS.

TWO BROTHERS, OREN FOUST OF NEW JERSEY, AND BILL FOUST OF DALLAS, TEXAS, ONE SISTER, HAZEL SPINKS OF DRASCO, ARKANSAS. FIVE GRANDCHILDREN, SCOTT AND MARK CRESSWELL, RIDGE AND CHASE FOUST AND JOSH HEFLIN. THREE GREAT GRANDCHILDREN, ETHAN, TAYLOR AND LAURA CRESSWELL, BESIDES OTHER RELATIVES AND MANY FRIENDS.

Iris E. Basden

Iris E. Basden, age 98, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2009, at the Southridge Village Nursing Center in Heber Springs. Born in Vandel, Arkansas, on November 22, 1910, she was the daughter of the late William Ira and Eunice Nancy (Sims) Futrell.

A resident of Heber Springs since 1960, Mrs. Basden was a homemaker, and she was a charter member of the Heber Springs Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alonzo M. Basden, on August 2, 1999. Also preceding Mrs. Basden in death were her son, Donald W. Basden, and daughter, Maurine E. Wellman; four brothers; and two sisters; and one grandchild, Keith Basden, DVM.

Mrs. Basden is survived by three grandchildren, Barbara Mueller and husband, Joe, of Millington, Tennessee, Robert Hollinger and wife, Sheila, of Jacksonville, AR; and Donna Hodges and husband, Marvin, of Holt, Missouri; five great grandchildren, Nick and Zack Hollinger, and Kent, Bethany, and Andrew Hodges; one great, great grandchild, Kayleigh Hodges; her son-in-law, Chuck Wellman and wife, Carol, of Tumbling Shoals, AR; and her daughter-in-law, Barbara Funderburg and husband, Bob, of Owasso, Oklahoma. Mrs. Basden is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 22, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Olmstead Funeral Home. Services will be held Friday, Jan. 23, at 11:00 a.m. at the Heber Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Mike Love and Dr. Mike Montalbano officiating. Interment will follow at Cleburne County Memorial Gardens. Joe Mueller, Bob Hollinger, Marvin Hodges, Brian Dugger, Larry Winter, and Kelly McClintock will serve as pallbearers, and honorary pallbearer is Kendall Logan. Memorials may be made to Soaring Wings Ranch, P. O. Box 1670, Conway, AR 72033. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home.

Ruby Ann Holt

Ruby Ann Holt, age 73, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at the White County Medical Center in Searcy. She was born in Richmond, Indiana, on April 28, 1935.

Mrs. Holt had worked as a waitress, and she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Heber Springs.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Henry Holt; three daughters, Patty Sparks, Bernadette Rippe, and Jackie; ten grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Mrs. Holt is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Jan. 19, at 4:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Heber Springs with Dr. J. R. DeBusk officiating. Arrangements: Olmstead Funeral Home.

Sherry Estelle Thompson

Sherry Estelle Thompson, age 60, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2009, at her home. Born in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on June 3, 1948, she was the daughter of the late William Albert and Birdie (Sanders) Thompson.

Sherry had been a resident of Heber Springs for almost thirty years and was employed as a secretary by the Arkansas Department of Health, working in the Cleburne County office. Sherry was a dedicated mother and a best friend to everyone. She enjoyed playing tennis, boating, camping and playing music. Sherry was a member of the New Life Church in Heber Springs.

Sherry is survived by her three daughters, Robbin Gillespie and her husband Scott, Jenny Bartlett and her husband Dennis, and Molly Wilkerson all of Heber Springs; one brother, Charles Thompson and his wife Bernice; two sisters, Mattie Brown and her husband Gene and Annette Crow and her husband David; four grandchildren, Jared and Jenna Gillespie, and Matthew and Grant Denman, and her granddog Sophie. Sherry is also survived by many nieces, nephews other relatives and her many extended family and friends. She will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 17, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. in the Olmstead Chapel. Memorial services will be held Sunday, Jan. 18, at 5:00 p.m. in the New Life Church in Heber Springs. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home.

Jerry Don Warren

Jerry Don Warren, age 65, of Ida, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2009, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born in Cleburne County on August 30, 1943, he was the son of the late Quentin Warren and the late Elsie (Dill) Heigle.

Mr. Warren was a tile setter. A resident of Cleburne County, he loved fishing and riding four wheelers. He was a member of the C.B. Club and was a friend to all.

Mr. Warren is survived by two sons, John Patrick Warren and James Daniel Warren, both of Wichita, Kansas; his stepmother, Helen Warren of Heber Springs; two brothers, Robert Warren of Drasco and Ronnie Heigle of Batesville; five sisters, Melba Evans and Brenda Gray, both of Heber Springs, Janet Davidson and Tonya Kennedy, both of Tumbling Shoals; and Karrl Heigle of Batesville; and three grandchildren, Logan, Sydney, and Nicholas of Wichita, Kansas. Mr. Warren is also survived by other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 19, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Olmstead Funeral Home. Graveside services and interment will be held Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 10:30 a.m. in the Miller cemetery with Pastor Odell Altom officiating. Pallbearers will be Glenn Warren, Tommy Kennedy, Donnie Dill, L. E. Deckard, and Justin Davidson. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home.

Gerald Alvin Davis

Gerald Alvin Davis, age 65, of Tumbling Shoals, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at the White County Medical Center in Searcy. Born in Greers Ferry on January 17, 1943, he was the son of Alvin Davis and the late Sally Botkins Davis.

Gerald was a lifetime resident of Cleburne County and worked as a newspaper printer. His religious belief was Baptist.

Gerald is survived by three daughters, Angie Barbaree and husband, Eric, of Prescott, Beth Lever and husband, Jerald, of Heber Springs, and Brianna Davis of Bald Knob; his father, Alvin Davis; two brothers, Oran Davis of Concord and Larry Davis of Mt. Home; and two grandsons, Jonathan and Joshua Barbaree. Gerald is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, in the Olmstead Chapel prior to the funeral service beginning at 2:30 p.m. officiated by Rev. Steve Jones and Rev. Jerry Richey. Interment will follow in the Shiloh Cross Roads cemetery. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, 601 W. Main, Heber Springs.

Naomi E. (Pat) Bittle

Naomi E. (Pat) Bittle, age 82, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Heber Springs. Born in Heber Springs on November 5, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary Jane (Jenkins) Wallace.

A lifetime resident of Heber Springs, Mrs. Bittle was a retired licensed practical nurse.

She was a fifty year member of the Heber Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Bittle’s religious belief was Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Bittle, on July 23, 2000, and she was also preceded in death by her son, Walter Hoskins.

Mrs. Bittle is survived by her nieces, Jane Sharp of Heber Springs and Carolyn Shearer of Colorado; and by her beloved pet boxer, Candy. Mrs. Bittle is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 3, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Olmstead Funeral Home in Heber Springs. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Jan. 4, at 2:00 p.m. in the Olmstead Chapel with Dr. J. R. DeBusk officiating. Interment will follow in the Pearson cemetery. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home.

Una Lucille Daves

Una Lucille Daves, age 96, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2009, at the Craighead County Nursing Center in Jonesboro. Born in Quitman, Arkansas, on September 13, 1912, she was the daughter of the late James T. and Mary (Turner) Young.

Mrs. Daves was a homemaker and had been a lifetime resident of Arkansas. She was a member of the Quitman United Methodist Church. Her husband, Roger Daves, preceded her in death in 1987.

Mrs. Daves is survived by one son, Cecil Daves and wife, Judy, of Trumann; one daughter, Mary Ann Butler and husband, Johnie, of Wake Village, Texas; one brother, Quinn Young of Merced, California; three sisters, Wilma Penrod of Santa Rosa, California, Geraldine Silvira of Atwater, California, and Elaine Gomes of Reno, Nevada; ten grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. Mrs. Daves is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Visitation will be held Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, at the Quitman United Methodist Church from 1:00-2:00 p.m. with funeral services beginning at 2:30 p.m. officiated by Rev. Danny Fagala and lay speaker Mr. Tom Olmstead. Interment will follow in the Quitman cemetery. Gary Daves, Kenneth Daves, Duane Daves, Brandon Murray, Steve Hackett, and Cecil Daves will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home.
