Freda Gail Stark

Freda Gail Stark, daughter of the late William and Pearl (Porter) Stryker, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at her Home in Heber Springs. Born march 28, 1915 in Montrose, CO she was 89 years of age. Freda was a member of Heber Springs First Baptist Church, a WAC in WWII attached to the air corps. She retired as a secretary from the Cleburne County Judges Office. She was very active in Bible study, involved in the Cancer and Heart Society, and was an artist. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband and soul mate, Collin W. Stark who passed away April 8, 1994. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Sikes and her husband, Donald of Conway, Arkansas, her son, Dale Stark and his wife, Jane of Heber Springs, Arkansas, 4 grandchildren, Jason, Joey, and Jerimah stark, and April Sikes, and 2 great grandchildren.

Services will be Friday, April 9, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Olmstead Chapel. Interment will be at Shiloh Cross Roads cemetery, Greers Ferry, AR. Arrangements by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Heber Springs, Arkansas.

Edwin Timothy Duncan

Edwin Timothy Duncan passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at St. Vincent Iinfirmary in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born November 30, 1947 at Heber Springs, Arkansas, he was 56 years of age. His religious belief was Baptist, he enjoyed bowling, and he was an auto repairman. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert McKinley Duncan. He is survived by his wife, Janette (Lovin) Duncan, his sons, Cory and Eric Duncan, both Of Quitman, Arkansas, his mother, Mary Virginia Duncan of Quitman, AR. Brothers, Bob Duncan of Belleville, AR. and Don Duncan of Quitman, AR. and his sisters, Charlotte Kathy Cacioppo of San Jose, California, and Virginia Mayne of Quitman, Arkansas. Services are Friday, April 9, 2004 at 2:00 P.m. at Wesley Chapel General Baptist Church. Interment will be at Wesley Chapel cemetery. Arrangements by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Gertie Rosetta Duncan

Gertie Rosetta Duncan of Pangburn, AR was born on October 6, 1914 and went to be with the Lord on April 8, 2004. She was a life long member of The Church of Christ. She was preceded in c.eath by her parents James Meddress and Mary King, one brother Irvin Meddress and two sisters May Dawson and Gladys Fry. She is survived by two sisters Marie Barham of Concord, CA and Melba Elmore of Murfreesboro, TN. She was also preceded in death by three children Glenda, Linda, and Lester Lee Duncan. She is survived by twelve children Bobby Duncan, Janice Oledia Gill, Elden Duncan, Willa Cummings, Ronnie Duncan, Sharon James, Judy Aundre', and William Duncan all of Pangburn, AR, Barbara Duncan and Gloria Sargent of Searcy, AR, Rocky Duncan of Raleigh, NC and Steve Duncan of MS. She is also survived by 36 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and numerous friends and neighbors. She will be greatly missed by all.

Visitation is Monday, April 12, 2004 from 5-7 P.M. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Heber Springs. Services are Tuesday, April 13, At Olmstead Chapel at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Henry Huckeba officiating. Interment will follow at Henderson cemetery, Pangburn, Arkansas. Serving as pallbearers will be: Rickey Greene, Kelley Ramsey, Greg Mann, Robert Sargent, Robbie James, and Bert Cummings. Laura Louise Latch

Laura Louise Latch, age 75, passed away Friday. The daughter of Robert and Mabel Snelling Johnson she was a retired nurse. Her religious belief was General Baptist and she enjoyed bowling, cake decorating, gardening and cooking. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Robert Charles (Sonny), Ivan, and Wilbur Dale Johnson. She is survived by her husband Bob Latch, daughter Beverly Turner of Cabot retired from Southwestern Bell, son Kent and Pat Latch, granddaughter Leah Latch all of Heber Springs. Sisters: Pauline Litaker and children and Betty and Oather Litaker, Brothers: Norman Johnson, Harley and Rose Johnson, David and Donna Johnson, Curt Johnson and Sister in Law Bonnie Hanks. Visitation Sunday Olmstead Funeral Home with Funeral Services Monday April 12, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. Olmstead Chapel and Interment Cleburne County Memorial Gardens.

Onus Dean Martin

Onus Dean Martin, son of the late Lonnie and Audrey (Sharp) Martin, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2004, at White River Medical Center in Batesville, Arkansas. Born October 1, 1915 at Banner, Arkansas, he was 78 years of age. Onus had been a resident of Michigan before he came back to Concord in1990. He was a carpenter, a member of Concord General Baptist Church, and an Army veteran of WWII. Besides his parents, He was preceded in death by his wife Freda Evelene (Davis) Martin on July 13, 1991, and two sisters, Edna Rambo and Evelyn Nail. He is survived by his son Larry Martin of Concord, Arkansas. His brothers, Lyndle Martin, Vernon Martin, Lowell Martin, and Weldon Martin, all of Michigan, his sisters, Leola Bowren, of Floral, Arkansas and Anne Potter. 3 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, other relatives, and many friends.

Services were Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at Concord General Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. with Rev Robert Brumley officiating. Interment followed at Concord cemetery with Wesley Martin, Clint Martin, Mark Millikin, Jerry Stair, Don Reed, Jr. and Trenton Reed serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers were Austin Martin, Wyatt Millikin, and Clelan Jackson. Arrangements were by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Heber Springs, Arkansas.

John Ward Davis

John Ward Davis, born December 12, 1924 at Wolf Bayou, Arkansas to the late John Tanner and dollie (Ward) Davis, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2004 at Baptist Health in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was 79 years of age. Ward had lived his life in Cleburne County, he was a farmer and a truck driver, a member of Drasco General Baptist Church, a WWII Army veteran, having served in the Normandy Invasion, receiving a Purple Heart. A member of the VFW, American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans. besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Wincel Vincent and a nephew, R.B. Cannon. He is survived by his wife, Nelda Jean (Cannon) Davis of Ida, Arkansas, a brother, Ralph Daniel Davis of Bald Knob, Arkansas. Nieces: Darla Montgomery, Gaylon Sue Howell, Lois Morris, and Nita Jean Altom, nephews: Dale Vincent, Danny Wayne Davis, Ray Cannon, Jerry Cannon, Norman Cannon, Nolan Cannon, and Bob Cannon, other relatives and many friends.

JOE WAS OF THE NON DENOMINATIONAL FAITH, A MASON CONTRACTOR, A LIFETIME MEMBER OF THE AMERICAN QUARTER HORSE ASSOCIATION AND A MEMBER OF THE AMERICAN PAINT HORSE ASSOCIATION. John Dalton Tucker

John Dalton Tucker, who lived most of his life in Concord, Arkansas, passed away Monday, April 19, 2004 at his home. Born April 8, 1914 at Ridgely, Tennessee to the late Lige H. and Olga (Davis) Tucker, he was 90 years of age. John was a farmer, a Mason, an Army Veteran of WWII serving in Company K, 112th Infantry, a past member of the V.F.W. enjoyed gardening, and his religious belief was Baptist. On April 25, 1936, John married Ather Meredith Graham. They were married for 59 years. She passed away May 8, 1995. Besides his wife and parents, John was preceded in death by two brothers, J.L. Tucker and Joe Tucker. Two sisters, Alma Tucker Bowman Lakin and Lucille Tucker Martin. He is survived by his sons, Dwayne Tucker and John L. Tucker, both of Concord, Arkansas, his daughter, Jo Wanda LaVelle of Parkersberg, Iowa, a brother, Darnell Tucker of New Jersey, 12 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren, and 1 Great, Great, Grandchild. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Visitation was Thursday, 6-8 p.m. at Olmstead Funeral Home. Graveside services and interment, Friday, 10:00 a.m. at Tucker cemetery with Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Arrangements by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Heber Springs, Arkansas.

Cye A. Powell

Cye A. Powell the son of Joe and Lila Helms Powell was born in Prim, Arkansas on June 29, 1925 and passed away in Heber Springs, Arkansas on April 19, 2004 at the age of 78 years. Mr. Powell was a Baptist, he was a disabled Army Veteran having served in World War II. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a lifetime resident of Heber Springs and a truck driver. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gereeda Margarette Branscum Powell who he married on July 22, 1951 and who passed away on February 8, 1997. He was also preceded in death by a brother William A. (Jack) Powell. Survivors are four sons: Danny Powell of Quitman, Arkansas, Cye Powell, Jr. and Jerry Powell both of Heber Springs and Joe Powell of Tumbling Shoals. A daughter Judy Royce of Athens, Georgia and two granddaughters Jenifer Chaney and Jackie Jones both of Memphis, Tennessee. Mr. Powell is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren besides other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will begin on Wednesday April 21, 2004 at Noon in Olmstead Funeral Home and funeral services will be on Friday, April 23, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in Olmstead Chapel and interment in the Heber Springs cemetery with Military Honors by the American Legion. Officiating will be Rev. Lloyd Blanton and pallbearers are Ron Chaney, Chad Jones, Garry Balentine, Dennis Balentine, Buel Hill, Eldo (Buster) Dwyers and Bill Powell. RALPH ROBERT PARSCHEN, AGE 75, passed away THURSDAY, APRIL 22, 2004 AT BAPTIST HEALTH HOSPITAL IN HEBER SPRINGS, ARKANSAS. RALPH WAS BORN MAY 5, 1928 IN PARMA, OHIO TO THE LATE ARTHUR AND LILLY PARSCHEN. RALPH HAD BEEN A RESIDENT OF HEBER SPRINGS FOR 14 YEARS. HE WAS A RETIRED ELECTRICAL ENGINEER HAVING WORKED FOR ENTERGY AT RED BLUFF, ATTENDED ST. FRANCIS EPISCOPAL CHURCH IN HEBER SPRINGS, AND WAS A PEACE TIME VETERAN OF THE UNITED STATES COAST GUARD. Elvena Taylor

Elvena Taylor the daughter of Floyd and Bertha Greesom Fisher was born in Cleburne County, Arkansas on July 24, 1934 and passed away at Little Rock, Arkansas on April 24, 2004 2004 at the age of 69 years. Mrs. Taylor was retired from sales in the Wal-Mart Shoe Department. She attended the South Cross Roads Church and was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the V.F.W. She had been a resident of Heber Springs for 20 years and had lived prior in Country Club Hills, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Taylor who passed away in 1973. Survivors are: two daughters Sheila and John Sworst of Bolingbrook, Illinois and Kim and Chris Granitz of West Palm Beach, Florida. One son Jerry Taylor Jr. of Heber Springs. Two step children Ronnie and Renee Taylor, and Terry Taylor both of Quitman. Five sisters: Freida Six of McRay, Arkansas, Imagene and Russell Doyle of South Carolina, Erma and Archie Farmer of Quitman, Marketa and Buddy Murrey of Rose Bud and Jean and Delbert Newton of Cabot. Mrs. Taylor is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Jennifer Cisek, David Cisek, Sean Doody, Christopher Granitz III, Ashley Taylor, Angelina Granitz, and Kaitlynn Sworst. 4 step grandchildren: Robert, Ronnie Jr., Chris and Laura. She is also survived by other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be Sunday April 25 at Olmstead Funeral Home from 2:00 until 8:00 pm. Funeral service will be held Monday April 26 at 2:00 pm South Corss Roads Church by Rev. Kenneth Rolland and interment in Wesley Chapel cemetery. Pallbearers are John Sworst, Chris Granitz, Christopher Granitz III, Jerry Taylor, Dennis Murrey and Michael Jones. SHE WAS A MEMBER OF THE WOMEN’S INTERNATIONAL BOWLING ASSOCIATION, V.F.W., BPW MEMBER, AMERICAN LEGION, AND PRESIDENT OF THE SOUTH BAY MOTHER OF TWINS CLUB. SHE ATTENDED THE LUTHERAN CHURCH. HER TRUE LOVE WAS THE OUTDOORS, FISHING, CAMPING, GARDENING, RAISING ORCHIDS, WORKING IN THE YARD, GOING TO THE LAKE, COOKING, AND SPENDING TIME WITH HER FAMILY. SHE ALWAYS HAD A GOOD JOKE TO TELL, LOVED BEATING HER GIRLFRIENDS AT CARDS, AND SHE COULD OUTLAST ANYONE ON THE DANCE FLOOR. SHE WILL BE DEEPLY MISSED AND FONDLY REMEMBERED BY ALL WHO KNEW HER.

SHE WAS 84 YEARS OF AGE. SHE AND HER HUSBAND JIM HAD LIVED IN HEBER SPRINGS FOR THE LAST 18 YEARS COMING FROM POCHONTAS, ARKANSAS. SHE ATTENDED THE UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS, AND WAS A MEMBER OF PI BETA PHI SORORITY, AND A LONG STANDING MEMBER OF P.E.O. SHE AND HER HUSBAND BOTH ARE MEMBERS OF FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH OF HEBER SPRINGS. MARY LOVED LIFE, HER FAMILY, AND HER FRIENDS. SHE SHARED HER ROSES WITH EVERYONE.
