Mrs. Ellen Lucille Cothren

Mrs. Ellen Lucille Cothren, age 81, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Monday, June 21, 2004, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Heber Springs. Born in Hazen, Arkansas, on May 22, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Jewell William and Lula (Wilson) Williams. On January 21, 1947, she married Chester C. Cothren, and they were married for forty-five years when he preceded her in death on July 25, 1992. Mrs. Cothren was a homemaker and had been a lifetime resident of Heber Springs. She was a volunteer for Haven House, Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels, and she was an avid bowler. Mrs. Cothren was a member of the First General Baptist Church of Heber Springs, and she was active in the church and choir. She is survived by four sons, Rev. Jerry Cothren of Paragould, AR, Mike Cothren of Vilonia, AR, Bruce Cothren of Brownsville, AR, and Kevin Cothren of Cleveland, Ohio, one brother, Jack Williams of North Little Rock, AR, eleven grandchildren, Mark, Tanya, Robin, Stacy, Shannon, Mika, Jeanna, Brian, Tonya, Casey, and Kevin ten great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. Mrs. Cothren is also survived by other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 23, from 6:00-9:00 P.M. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Graveside services and interment will be held Thursday, June 24, at 11:00 A.M. in the Brownsville cemetery with Bro. Jerry Cothren officiating. Family members will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. in Heber Springs.

Ila Mae Cobb Barnett

Ila Mae Cobb Barnett, wife of Roy L. Barnett, Deceased, was born September 8, 1909. in Wiggins, Mississippi to James Madison and Ida Bell Cobb. Her twin sister Ina Lee preceded her in death soon after birth. lIa Mae was the last of her family of two sisters and two brothers: Irma Mallory, Verlia Hamilton, James Madison Cobb and James Cecil Cobb. She is survived by her niece, Marilyn Mace of Houston, Texas, and by her nephews, Bill Hamilton of Tampa, Florida, Jimmy and Sidney Cobb of Oklahoma City, and nieces, Margaret Dubisson and Janette Lazana of Gulfport, Mississippi, and many wonderful nieces and nephews from Roy's family. She and Roy were members here at First Baptist, having moved to Heber Springs from First Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. Ila Mae loved the Church, becoming a Christian when she was 10 years old. She was always very active in church work while Roy made everyone happy with his love for people, his big smile and his cute, corny jokes. Ila Mae would like to have told each and every one of you that "I love you for all of your many expressions of love and kindness during my recent illness, after having the bad luck of breaking my hip, along with other complications. May God bring blessings to you as you have all been a blessing to me."

Jimmy Don Harris

Jimmy Don Harris, age 44, of Quitman, Arkansas, passed away Monday, June 21, 2004, at the Conway Regional Medical Center in Conway, Arkansas. Born in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on December 9, 1959, he was the son of Iris Emmanette (Reynolds) Harris Shelby and the late Noah David Harris. Jimmy was a commercial painter. He moved to Greers Ferry in 1979 and became a resident of Quitman in 1988. Jimmy loved fishing, hunting, and golf. He was kind and outgoing and had many friends. His religious belief was non-denominational. Jimmy is survived byhis mother, Iris Shelby of Quitman, AR, one brother, Alvin David Harris of West Lake, Louisiana, three sisters, Dana Celeste Guffey and Donna Kay Powell, both of Quitman, AR, and Sandy Childress of Greenbrier, AR, his nieces and nephews, one great nephew and one great niece, and his aunts and uncles. Jimmy is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 22, from 7:00-9:00 P.M. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 23, at 2:00 P.M. in the Olmstead Chapel with Chris Hackler officiating. Interment will follow in Shiloh Cross Roads cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gary Vaughn, Rodney Holmes, Dennis Balentine, Buel Hill, Terry Childress, Danny Powell, and Chad Burford. Honorary pallbearer will be Gregg Loftis.

Earl A. Scott

Earl A. Scott, age 92, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2004, at Ozark Health Nursing Home in Clinton, Arkansas. He was born in Howard County, Missouri, on April 1, 1912. Mr. Scott was a retired maintenance worker at the University of Missouri, and he was a veteran of the United State Air Force. His wife Gracie preceded him in death on April 29, 1993. Mr. Scott was a Christian. Mr. Scott is survived by two brothers, Andy Scott of College Station, Texas, and Scotty Scott of St. Clair, Missouri and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James and Rachel Holland of Sullivan, MO, and Henry and Dora Mallory of Mt. Home, AR. Mr. Scott is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Visitation will begin at 12:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 29, in the Olmstead Chapel at Woodland Memorial Park in Fairfield Bay. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at Woodland Memorial Park at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Bonda Moyer officiating. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. of Heber Springs.

Tommy Lynn "TJ" Parker, Jr.

T.J. Parker of Heber Springs, Arkansas, age 21, died Monday, June 21, 2004, while serving his country in the United States Marine Corps in Iraq. Born December 19, 1982, at Stuttgart, Arkansas, he was the son of Tommy Lynn Parker, Sr. and Renate Lynne (Yancey) Parker. T. J. had been a resident of Heber Springs for nine years and was a graduate of the Triple S Christian School in Heber Springs. He was a Corporal serving in the 2nd Battalion of the 4th Marines, 1st Marine Division stationed in Camp Pendleton, California. T. J. especially enjoyed spending time working on vehicles, playing basketball and baseball, hunting, and playing music. He was a loving husband and father. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Linda L. Parker, Bobby Gene Parker, Robert Baser (Papaw), and Charles Yancey. T. J. is survived by his wife, Carla (Taylor) Parker one daughter, Lara Michelle Parker his parents, Tommy and Renate Parker two brothers, Charles Gene Parker and Brandon Robert Parker, all of Heber Springs, AR, and his grandmother, Reba Joyce Tyson. T. J. is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 28, from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. in Heber Springs. Services will be held Tuesday, June 29, at 2:00 P.M. in the First United Methodist Church of Heber Springs with Rev. Mark Bishop officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Cleburne County Memorial Gardens. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Parker, Brandon Parker, J. T. Hopkins, Curtis Yancey, Luke Bishop, Cpl. Gary Ray Bell

Gary Ray Bell, age 46, of Cabot, Arkansas, passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 30, 2004. Born in Torrance, California, on August 2, 1957, he was the son of Ulys Bell, Jr. and Mary (Barnett) Bell. Gary was an automotive and truck mechanic. His religious belief was Baptist. Gary is survived by two sons, Timothy James Bell and Jody Bell one daughter, Trayce Bell, all of Hampton, AR, his parents, Ulys and Mary Bell of Cabot, AR, one brother, Ulys Bell, III, and two sisters, Elizabeth Irene Bell and Sandra Davidson, all of Jacksonville, AR. Gary is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Graveside services and interment will be held Saturday, July 3, at 1:00 P.M. in the Higden McLehaney cemetery. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc., Heber Springs.

Mr. Owen Burl Majors

Mr. Owen Burl Majors, age 70, of Greers Ferry, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, July 1, 2004, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born in Greers Ferry on July 12, 1933, he was the son of the late Arthur and Mae (Hooten) Majors. Mr. Majors was a home construction builder and a longtime resident of Greers Ferry. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Edgemont and West Side Baptist Church at Greers Ferry. Mr. Majors was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Thurman Majors. Survivors include his wife, Edna Lou (Barnum) Majors of Greers Ferry, AR, his sons and daughters-in-law, Ronny and Sherry Majors of Greers Ferry, AR, and Burl J. and Renee Majors of Alma, AR, his daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah Majors of Heber Springs, AR, Marsha and Jack Finch of Greers Ferry, AR, and Lillian and Larry Phillips of Huntsville, Alabama one brother, Glenn Majors of Sharpsville, Indiana, one sister, Geraldine Brady of Greentown, Indiana, eleven grandchildren, Chris and Shawn Carr, Tabitha Jones, Nicole Cothren, Brittany, Boo, Kayla, and Dillon Majors, Teagus Majors, and Samantha and Sydnee Phillips and seven great-grandchildren, Chad, Derek, and Allison Carr, Karlye and Kirby Cothren, and Neely and Rece Jones. Mr. Majors is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Mrs. Juanita June (Godfrey) Griffin

Mrs. Juanita June (Godfrey) Griffin, age 76, of Quitman, Arkansas, passed away Monday, July 5, 2004, at Central Arkansas Hospital in Searcy, Arkansas. Born in Clinton, Arkansas, on October 12, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Robert Earl Godfrey and Artie Veulah Grant Godfrey. A former resident of Kansas City, Missouri, Mrs. Griffin had lived at Quitman since 1975. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, bird watching, talking on the C.B, and she especially enjoyed her three grandchildren. Mrs. Griffin’s religious belief was Baptist. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Robert and Artie Godfrey; her husband, Herman Alton Griffin, who passed away on March 4, 1985; one daughter, Linda Griffin Barger; and one sister, Hope Godfrey. Survivors include two sons, Alvin Royce Griffin of Greeley, Colorado, and David Alton Griffin of Kansas City, Missouri, one sister, Sandra Godfrey Jeter of El Dorado, AR, and three grandchildren, Deborah Griffin of Loveland, Colorado, Tracy Moore of Pittsburg, Missouri, and Jessica Acker of Springfield, Missouri. Mrs. Griffin is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Griffin will be held Friday, July 9, at 2:00 P.M. at Center Point Church. Interment will follow in Center Point cemetery. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Mrs. Irene Ester Yates

Mrs. Irene Ester Yates, age 87, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Friday, July 9, 2004, at Beverly HealthCare in Heber Springs. Born in Dow, Illinois, on April 15, 1917, she was the daughter of the late James C. and Christine (Schaff) Vanausdoll. Mrs. Yates was a retired nurse and worked at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1941 she was married to Ernie O. Yates. She loved crocheting, working in her yard, and her husband Ernie. Mrs. Yates had been a resident of Heber Springs since 1976, and she was a member of Cleburne County Baptist Church. Her husband Ernie preceded her in death on May 22, 1998. Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Virginia Vanausdoll her sister, Martha Maxeiner, all of St. Louis, Missouri, and her nephew, Kenneth Fergerson and his wife, Jean, of Kansas City, Missouri. Mrs. Yates is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Visitation will be held Sunday, July 11, from 3:00-5:00 P.M. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. in Heber Springs. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 12, at 10:00 A.M. in the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. John Bishop and Rev. Rick Hershberger officiating. Mrs. Grace Evelyn 'Dutch' Weeks

Mrs. Grace Evelyn 'Dutch' Weeks, age 69, of Concord, Arkansas, passed away Friday, July 9, 2004, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Born in Pampa, Texas, on June 15, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Robert D. and Mary Ada (Goss) McGinnis. Mrs. Weeks was a homemaker. She was a longtime active member of the Eastern Star and was a past Worthy Matron. Mrs. Weeks’ religious belief was Protestant. She was preceded in death by her husband, Neal Dale Weeks. Survivors include one son, Johnny D. Weeks of Memphis, Tennessee, one daughter, Carla Weeks of Corning, California, her brothers, Benny and Robert Arthell 'Thell' her sisters, Beatrice, Carolyn, Mary Clorene, LoVona 'Bonie', Naomi 'Pete', Jessie, Viola, and Luetta, and seven grandchildren, Ben, Janetta, Emma, Joshua, Rebekah, Jessica, and David. Mrs. Weeks is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 13, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Graveside services with Eastern Star rites will be held Wednesday, July 14, at 10:00 A.M. in the Pine Grove cemetery with Chaplin Jean Penner officiating. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Verl J. Decker

Verl J. Decker, age 73, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away at his home on Sunday, July 11, 2004. Born in Tyler, Arkansas, on January 26, 1931, he was the son of the late Fonzo and Sarah (Morris) Decker. A graduate of Oakland City University and United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio, Mr. Decker was a retired minister, having pastured churches in Indiana and Michigan. He had been a resident of Cleburne County most of his life and enjoyed being outdoors. Mr. Decker was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the Arkansas United Methodist Conference, and he attended services at the First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a 32 degree Mason of the Scottish Rite. Mr. Decker was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and five brothers. Survivors include his wife, Lucy Faye (Chandler) Decker of Heber Springs, AR, one son, Randall Wayne Decker of Newport, AR, two daughters, Brenda Carol Gray of Terre Haute, Indiana, and Rhonda Faye Thomas of Virginia Beach, Virginia, four brothers, Dwain Decker of Heber Springs, AR, Bobby Lee Decker and Jerry Decker, both of Wilburn, AR, and Ricky Decker of Concord, AR, three sisters, Rosella Johnson of Heber Springs, AR, Daisy Lea Kasun of Valley Springs, California, and Alleyne Andrews of Watervliet, Michigan, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mr. Decker is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Mrs. Virginia Taylor

Mrs. Virginia Taylor, age 81, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2004, at Southridge Village Nursing Center in Heber Springs. Born in Pontotoc, Mississippi, on May 12, 1923, she was the daughter of the late E. C. and Pearl (Tyler) Tutor. Mrs. Taylor was a homemaker and had been a resident of Heber Springs since 1972. She was a member of the Victory Missionary Baptist Church. Her husband, Walter Bob Taylor, preceded her in death in 1953. Mrs. Taylor was also preceded in death by one daughter, Attie Paulette Taylor, who passed away in 1995. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Johnny B. and Nina Taylor of Heber Springs, AR. Mrs. Taylor is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Graveside services and interment will be held Friday, July 16, at 3:00 P.M. in the Dogwood cemetery at Blytheville, Arkansas, with Rev. Larry Forte officiating. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Mrs. Lessie Joan Lee

Mrs. Lessie Joan Lee, age 67, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Monday, July 19, 2004, at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born in Galveston, Texas, on July 6, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Clayton and Effie Olean (Graves) Easterling. Mrs. Lee was a homemaker and enjoyed golf. She had been a resident of Heber Springs for twenty years and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Mrs. Lee was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Effie Radke of Beaumont, Texas; and one brother, Edward Byrd of Mauriceville, Texas. She is survived by her husband of 15 years, Richie Lee of Heber Springs, AR, three sons, Edward Samuel Stuart, III, James Monroe Stuart, and Leroy Clayton Stuart, all of Lumberton, Texas, two stepsons, Stan Lee and Louis Lee, both of Heber Springs, AR, one brother, Harold Ray Byrd of Heber Springs, AR, eight sisters, Jean Lewis of Springfield, Missouri, Helen Rasch of Lakeland, Tennessee, Diana Shane of Greenville, Texas, Doris Williams, Wana Weber, and Faye Nelson, all of Florence, Mississippi, Patricia Berry of Heber Springs, AR, and Teresa Lynn Ratliff of Hamilton, Texas, two grandchildren, eight step grandchildren, and three step great grandchildren. Mrs. Lee is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 20, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 21, at 2:00 P.M. in the Olmstead Chapel with Dr. J. R. DeBusk officiating. Interment will follow in Cleburne County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Stan Lee, Louis Lee, Glenn Ingram, Wetzel Stark, Walter Aldridge, and Randy Dundas. Mrs. Katie Marie Graves Clark

Mrs. Katie Marie Graves Clark, age 93, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Monday, July 19, 2004, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Heber Springs. Born in Lawson, Arkansas, on April 29, 1911, she was the daughter of the late James Marshall Graves and Glennie (Axum) Graves. Mrs. Clark was a former resident of several Arkansas towns including El Dorado, McGehee, Carlisle, DeValls Bluff, and Blytheville. She was a retired school teacher. Mrs. Clark was a member of the Eastern Star, Aramanth Bendimeer Caldron #87 of Little Rock, and the Social Order of Beauceant of Little Rock. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Heber Springs. Her husband, J. O. Clark, preceded her in death in February of 2000. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Joe Lybrand of Tumbling Shoals, AR; two granddaughters, Kim Lybrand Workman of Durango, Colorado, and Dee Lybrand Keiter of Gosnell, AR, one great grandson, Phillip, and one great granddaughter, Sylvia. Mrs. Clark is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Mr. Jack J. Shearer

Mr. Jack J. Shearer of Wilburn, Arkansas, passed away Monday, July 19, 2004, at the National Park Medical Center in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Born in Wilburn, Arkansas, on October 7, 1938. Mr. Shearer was 65 years of age. He was the grandson of Hugh and Edna Hazelwood and the son of Julia E. Hazelwood Shearer. A lifetime resident of Wilburn, Mr. Shearer was retired from the Arkansas Forestry Commission, and he was a veteran of the United States Army. Survivors include his wife, Virginia (Bradley) Shearer of Wilburn, AR; one daughter and son-in-law, Gwen and Bradley Stormont of Wilburn, AR; two stepsons, Billy Mac Shearer of Wilburn, AR, and Michael Shearer of Mayflower, AR; three grandchildren, Hadden Stormont, Walker Stormont, and Grace Stormont, and special family friends, David Owen of Mt. Clements, Michigan, and Mary Fithen of Hot Springs, AR. Mr. Shearer is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 21, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 22, at 3:00 P.M. in the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. Samuel Wildmon officiating. Interment will follow in Center Chapel cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wayne Ridgeway, David Cressy, Leo Long, Eric Curl, Paul Deece, and Mike Gunnett. Larry Quinton White

Larry Quinton White, infant son of Alvin Quinton and Stephanie Lynne Grimes White passed away Wednesday August 25, 2004 at White County Medical Center in Searcy, Arkansas. His family attends the First Assembly of God Church in Heber Springs. Larry Quinton is survived by his parents Alvin Quinton and Stephanie Lynne White of Quitman, Arkansas his grandparents Margaret Hooper, Melissa and Gary Joplin and Jerry and Tina Grimes. His great grandparents Clarice White of Hazen, Charles and Francis Kyzer of Heber Springs and Alice Marchbanks of Pangburn and an aunt Samantha Joplin besides other family members and many friends.

Funeral services will be Monday, August 30, 2004 at the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Quitman, Arkansas with Rev. Lee Brown officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery. Arrangements by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

MARION GUY HOUSTON

MARION GUY HOUSTON, THE SON OF GUY AND ESSIE JUSTICE HOUSTON WAS BORN IN ROUND POND, ARKANSAS ON FEBRUARY 13, 1919 AND passed away AT DRASCO, ARKANSAS ON AUGUST 28, 2004 AT THE AGE OF 85 YEARS. MR. HOUSTON WAS A RETIRED CONSTRUCTION WORKER, BUILDER AND FARMER. HE HAD ATTENDED THE MT. VERNON BAPTIST CHURCH AND HIS RELIGIOUS BELIEF WAS BAPATIST. HE WAS A U.S. ARMY VETERAN HAVING SERVED IN WORLD WAR II AND ENJOYED FISHING. HE WAS PRECEEDED IN DEATH BY A BROTHER WILLIAM GUY HOUSTON WHO DIED IN 1985. Mr. Jerrell W. DeClue

Mr. Jerrell W. DeClue, age 86, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2004, at Beverly HealthCare in Heber Springs. Born at West Point, Arkansas, on April 12, 1918, he was the son of the late Charles Leroy and Delia (Roland) DeClue. Mr. DeClue had lived in Heber Springs since 1986 and was a former resident of Quitman. He was retired from Bryce Packing Company. Mr. DeClue was a board member of the Red Barn Folklore Society and enjoyed music and gardening. He was a member of Sugar Loaf Baptist Church. Mr. DeClue was preceded in death by one brother, Murley DeClue. Survivors include his wife, Flossie (Moody) DeClue of Heber Springs, AR, six sons, Bobby G. DeClue of Kemp, Texas, Charles DeClue of Beaumont, Texas, Dennis DeClue Harles DeClue of Trinity, North Carolina, Travis DeClue of Wooster, AR, and Doyle DeClue of Quitman, AR, three daughters, Margaret Bare of Wooster, AR, Sherry Scott of Memphis, Tennessee, and Carrie Burrow of Quitman, AR, two brothers, Roy DeClue and C. L. DeClue, both of Memphis, Tennessee, two half sisters, Marilyn Walker of Bald Knob, AR, and Betty of Drummond, Tennessee, his stepmother, Clarine, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. DeClue is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 27, from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 28, at 10:00 A.M. in the Olmstead Chapel with Dr. J. R. DeBusk and James Beard officiating. Interment will follow in the Heber Springs cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Hospice. Patricia Elaine Carman Vierregger

Patricia Elaine Carman Vierregger, 73, of Edgemont, devoted wife of Robert 'Bob' C. Vierregger for 43 years and retired executive secretary, demised this life Tuesday, August 24, 2004 after a courageous struggle with complications of surgery performed April 2, 2004 for cancer. Pat was a member of Holiday Hills United Methodist Church and had served on finance, building, and pastor/parish relations committees. She was: a 53-year member of Order of the Eastern Star; Past Worthy Matron, Lakeview Chapter No. 609, Order of the Eastern Star in Edgemont, and Past District Grand Lecturer, Order of the Eastern Star of Arkansas. She was an active member of her sorority, XI Gamma Zeta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi in Fairfield Bay and had served as its president. Over the years, Pat was president of PTA/PTSO, Brownie den mother, Girl Scout leader, and campaign fundraiser for cancer, heart, and diabetes foundations. At Brighton High School, she’d been class vice president and valedictorian. She was a 10+ year member of Indian Rock Village Health Care Center Auxiliary (IRV-H.C.C. Auxiliary); vice president of the Lake Park/Circle Acres Water Improvement District, member of the Red Hat Fillies Club, and co-owner of The Real Estate Center, Inc. Pat’s hobbies were reading, ceramics, crafts, painting, caring for others, and southern cooking. She lived her life by Proverbs 3:5-6. preceded in death by her parents Floyd E. and Hilma L. Wheat Carman, Pat is survived by husband Bob; daughter, son-in-law, and grandson Zachary, Ron, and Stacy Tyra of Prague, OK, and first cousin Jo Ella Womack of Metairie, LA.

Services, with Rev. Denzel Stokes officiating, will be at 2 p.m., Friday, August 27 at Holiday Hills United Methodist Church in Greers Ferry.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Holiday Hills United Methodist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 254, Greers Ferry, AR 72067 or the Greers Ferry Volunteer Ambulance Fund, P. O. Box 1264, Greers Ferry, AR 72067.

The family will be at 239 Lake Park Drive in Lake Park Estates.

Mrs. Marian L. Smothers Sargent

Mrs. Marian L. Smothers Sargent, age 78, of Edgemont, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2004, at Southridge Village Nursing Home in Heber Springs, Arkansas. She was born in Peoria, Illinois, on August 16, 1926. A resident of Edgemont since 1983, Mrs. Sargent was a retired secretary. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the V.F.W. Auxiliary of the Fairfield Bay Post 4513, and she attended services at Lone Star Baptist Church. Mrs. Sargent enjoyed flowers and gardening, was an avid book reader, and loved animals. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Eugene Smothers, Sr.; her husband, Robert (Bob) Sargent of Arkansas, who died in 1993; and one daughter, Roberta Dochertman of Rock Island, Illinois. Survivors include four sons, Allyn Smothers, Eugene Smothers, Jr., Daniel Smothers, and Roy Smothers, all of Burlington, Iowa, two daughters, Wenona Lightner of Kansas City, Missouri, and Alba Anderson of Burlington, Iowa, twenty grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mrs. Sargent is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

A memorial service for Mrs. Sargent will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Greers Ferry Ambulance Fund. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc., Heber Springs.

Robert Dale Duncan

Robert Dale Duncan, 70, Quitman, AR, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2004 at his home. Memorial services will be Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at the American Legion Post 64 in Heber Springs, AR. A visitation will be held noon until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Heber Springs, AR. Mr. Duncan was born May 15, 1934 in Kansas City, KS, the son of Fred and Selma (Gromer) Duncan. He was a graduate of Wyandotte High School, Kansas City, KS, a US Army veteran and member of the National Guard. He was a member of the American Legion Honor Guard and an avid painter. He retired after 25 years as a clerk for Rock Island Railroad. His parents and a son, David Dale Duncan, preceded him in death. Survivors include his daughter, Robyn Alison Duncan Pendleton, and three grandchildren, Brittney, Emily, and Dylan Pendleton, all of Tonganoxie, KS; one brother, Fred B. and wife Mary Duncan and their family, Kansas City, KS; his friends and caregivers Pam and Ted Case, Quitman, AR; and many other friends and relatives.

Mrs. Jean Marjorie Jantz

Mrs. Jean Marjorie Jantz, age 83, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, August 22, 2004, at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on May 13, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Elroy and Marion (McLaughlin) Mahlberg. Mrs. Jantz was a former resident of Hammond, Indiana, and she was a retired dictation typist for Equifax. She had lived in Heber Springs for twenty years and was a member of the Eastern Star and the Hope Lutheran Church. Mrs. Jantz served as treasurer for the Heber Springs Humane Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmond 'Jay' R. Jantz, who died on September 13, 1999. Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Jantz of Heber Springs, AR, Robyn Dorsch and her husband, John, of Crown Point, Indiana, and Debra Sheffield and her husband, William, of Memphis, Tennessee, two brothers, Roy Mahlberg of St. Simons Island, Georgia, and Donald Mahlberg of San Marcos, California, three grandchildren, Bill Dorsch, Sarah Sheffield, and Jeremy Jantz and his wife, Dulcie. Mrs. Jantz is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

A memorial service with Eastern Star rites will be held Sunday, Aug. 29, at 2:00 P.M. in the Hope Lutheran Church with Pastor William Slemr officiating. Interment will be in the Hope Lutheran Church Columbarium. Memorials may be made to the Hope Lutheran Church in Heber Springs. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc., Heber Springs, AR.

Mrs. Edna Imogene (Jean) Johnson

Mrs. Edna Imogene (Jean) Johnson, age 66, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2004, at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born September 12, 1937, at West Point, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Grover and Edna (Sanders) Ridings. Mrs. Johnson had been a resident of Heber Springs for the past thirty years and was a former resident of Wentzville, Missouri. She was a retired certified nurse’s aide for Beverly HealthCare in Heber Springs. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Sugar Loaf Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane Johnson, who died in 1980, and also by one son, Larry Johnson. Mrs. Johnson is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Sherri Johnson of Heber Springs, AR, her daughters and son-in-law, Shelia Johnson of Greenville, Tennessee, and Thelia and Danny Pettigrew of Greenville, Tennessee, three brothers, Larry Ridings of Miami, Oklahoma, Wendell Ridings of Missouri, and James Ridings of Cedar Rapids, Iowa one sister, Mert Bruns of Maryland Heights, Missouri, six grandchildren, and one great grandchildren. Mrs. Johnson is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Aug. 19, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 20, at 10:00 A.M. in the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. Lloyd Blanton officiating. Interment will be held Saturday, Aug. 21, at the Eternal Peace cemetery in Wentzville, Missouri. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.
