John Hugh Wright, Jr.

John Hugh Wright, Jr., age 54, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Monday, November 22, 2004, at his home. Born in North Little Rock on October 4, 1950, he was the son of Mary Lou Jones Wright and the late John H. Wright, Sr. A former resident of Russellville, John had lived in Heber Springs since 1989. He was retired and the former owner of John Wright Motors located in Heber Springs. John was a veteran of the Air National Guard and the Army National Guard. He was a thirty-second degree Mason and a Shriner, and he was an avid squirrel hunter. John was a member of First Baptist Church in Heber Springs. He attended and played football at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He was preceded in death by his father and also by his father-in-law, Clarence F. Walker. Survivors include his wife, Cathie (Walker) Wright of Heber Springs, three daughters, Robyn Wright of Heber Springs, and Kristin Wright and Katie Wright, both of Russellville, his mother, Mary Lou Wright of North Little Rock, two brothers, Freddy Wright of Poyen, and Phil Wright of Russellville, his mother-in-law, Charlene Walker of North Little Rock, and his nieces and nephews. John is also survived by other relatives and his many friends. He loved and enjoyed spending time with his family and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 24, at 1:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Fred Oaks officiating. Interment will follow in Cleburne County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Mike Irwin, Dick Cisne, John Mills, Kenneth Rackley, Ward Baldridge, Gary Euton, George Keeter, and Joe Benight. Honorary pallbearers will be Vance Jones, Ernie Berry, Chee Chee Tamburo, Larry Inman, and Wendell Byrd. Arrangements: Olmstead Funeral Home, Heber Springs.

Mrs. Cordie Beatrice Allen

Mrs. Cordie Beatrice Allen, age 80, of Quitman, Arkansas, passed away at her home on Monday, November 22, 2004. Born in Cleburne County, Arkansas, on January 15, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Ade Johnson and Ethel (Norman) Johnson. Mrs. Allen was a homemaker, and her religious belief was Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Shelby Allen, in 1994. Survivors include one son, Laymon Allen and his wife, Ola Jean, of Quitman, one daughter, Juanita Nelson and her husband, Dellain, of Quitman, one brother, Coy Johnson of Conway, two sisters, Jewell Faulks of Quitman, and Edna Holliman of Searcy, four grandchildren, four step grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Allen is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 23, from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at Olmstead Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 24, at 2:00 P.M. in the Flat Rock Baptist Church with Bro. Jim French officiating. Interment will follow in the Flat Rock cemetery. Pallbearers will be Shannon Allen, Stanley New, Tim Davis, Ralph Goff, Burford Treadway, and Melvin Allen. Mrs. Audrey Fay Doyle

Mrs. Audrey Fay Doyle, age 87, of Pangburn, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2004, at White County Medical Center in Searcy, Arkansas. Born September 19, 1917, at Sidon, Arkansas, Mrs. Doyle was the daughter of the late Arch Dillard Vernon and Ester (Cook) Vernon Hopper. A lifetime resident of Pangburn, Mrs. Doyle owned and operated a grocery store until her retirement in the late 1970’s. She was a member of the PTA and TOPS. Mrs. Doyle was a devoted mother and grandmother and enjoyed crocheting and flowers. She was a member of Glad Tidings Baptist Church at Pangburn. Her husband, Commie E. Doyle, preceded her in death on August 8, 1986. She was also preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. Mrs. Doyle is survived by one son, Paul Doyle of Pangburn, AR, three daughters, Peggie Neal of Pangburn, AR, Pat Bates of Tyler, Texas, and Pamela Moler of Vilonia, AR, four sisters, Dee Graves of Amarillo, Texas, Millie Biggs of Dallas, Texas, Billy Campbell of Searcy, AR, and Reva Stewart of Pangburn, AR, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Doyle is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, Nov. 22, from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Olmstead Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 23, at 10:00 A.M. in the Glad Tidings Baptist Church with Rev. Hubert Lee and Rev. Bill Threet officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pisgah cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jim Marsh, Tony Marsh, Kenny Rodgers, Johnny Rodgers, David King, and Bill Fry. Gene A. Smith

Gene A. Smith, 64, years old of Jesup, IA died Saturday, November 13, 2004 at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, IA. He was born July 12, 1940, in Waterloo, IA, the son of William Arthur Smith and Mary Ellen (Lawless) Smith. On April 23, 1960, he was united in marriage to Gladys Harriet Biretz in Waterloo, IA. She preceded him in death on October 22, 1999. Gene was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup and had worked 47 years as a mason.

Mr. Smith is survived by 1 daughter, Loretta (Steve) Havlik of Jesup, IA, 2 sons, Alan (Brenda) Smith and Rodney (Alice) Smith, both of Fairfield Bay, AR, 8 grandchildren, 4 brothers, William (Mikki) Smith, Jr. of Waterloo, IA, Ernest Smith of Minneapolis, MN, LeRoy (Luann) Smith of Waterloo, IA, Gale (Cheryl) Smith of Waterloo, IA, 4 sisters, Phyllis (Mike) Herbsleb of Rowley, IA, Vicky (John) Rich of Finchford, IA, Billie (Richard) Hundley of Cedar Falls, IA, and Betty Powell of Illinois. In addition to his wife, Gladys, he was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2004, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA, with Fr. Donald R. Bruggeman as celebrant. Music was by Monica Bengston, organist and the St. Athanasius Choir. Honorary Casket Bearers were Jesse Havlik, Dalton Smith, Cody Smith, Austin Smith, Tiffany Smith, Halsey Havlik. Casket Bearers were Adam Biretz, Tony Smith, Bill Smith, Ben Smith, Justin Smith, Jason Hundley and Michael Smith.

Graveside Burial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 19, 2004, at Woodland Memorial Park, Edgemont, AR.

Mr. James Henry Pullman, Jr.

Mr. James Henry Pullman, Jr., age 87, of Edgemont, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, November 14, 2004, at Southridge Village in Heber Springs. Born October 20, 1917, in Sidney, Iowa, he was the son of the late James H. Pullman, Sr. and Mildred DeFreece Pullman. A resident of the Greers Ferry area since 1981, Mr. Pullman was a banker for forty-five years and retired from Fremont County Savings Bank in Sidney, Iowa. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a lieutenant in the United States Navy. Mr. Pullman was a lifetime Mason and Shriner, and he was also a lifetime member of the Eastern Star. He was a member of Holiday Hills United Methodist Church at Greers Ferry and had served as an Elder in the Presbyterian Church in Sidney, Iowa. Survivors includehis wife, Evelyn (Kennedy) Pullman of Edgemont, one son, Gregory James Pullman of Fairfield Bay, one daughter, Pamela Smoak of Panama City, Florida, one brother, Norman K. Pullman of Wichita, Kansas, one sister, Irene Kruger of Edgemont, three grandchildren, eleven step grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and two step great-grandchildren. Mr. Pullman is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Memorial services for Mr. Pullman will be held Wednesday, Nov. 17, at 11:00 A.M. in the Holiday Hills United Methodist Church with Rev. Denzel Stokes officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be held Saturday, Nov. 20, at 2:00 P.M. in the Sidney cemetery in Sidney, Iowa. Memorials may be made to Holiday Hills United Methodist Church in Greers Ferry, AR, the Salvation Army, or First Presbyterian Church in Sidney, Iowa. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc., Heber Springs.

Richard Romeo

Richard Romeo of Quitman, AR, formerly of Poplar Bluff, MO, passed away on November 15, 2004. He was born October 23, 1929, in Benton Harbor, Michigan. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Geneva, his sister-in-law, Lorene David, both of Quitman, his son, Randy and wife Cindy of Conway, two brothers, Tony Romeo of St. Joseph, Michigan, and George Romeo of Stevensville, Michigan, and one sister, Ginger Martin of St. Joseph, Michigan, four grandchildren, Bailey Romeo, Jordy Neill, Cory Trent, and Tyler Trent, all of Conway, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Romeo enjoyed a 40 year career with Electrolux Corporation. He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. In his later years of semi-retirement, he became a cattle rancher in Quitman. He devoted a great deal of his time to family and friends who will miss him deeply.

Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday at Olmstead Funeral Home of Heber Springs. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday at the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. Billy Moore presiding. Interment will follow in Cleburne County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Tony Romeo, Rick Lewis, Tim Gott, Cory Trent, Neil Vernasco, and Norm Crawford. Honorary pallbearer will be Ray Johnson. Jewel Dee Stringfellow

Jewel Dee Stringfellow, age 82, the son of Frank and Etta Barnett Stringfellow, was born in Romance, Arkansas, on August 11, 1922, and passed away at his home in Pangburn, Arkansas, on Tuesday, November 9, 2004. Sgt. Stringfellow was retired from the United States Army. He served overseas in the South Pacific during World War II. He also served in Germany, Okinawa, twice in Korea and in Vietnam. His other decorations included two awards of the Army Commendation Medal. A native of Searcy, Sgt. Stringfellow was educated there and attended Arkansas State Teachers College at Conway. He was also the owner of a greenhouse and nursery in Pangburn. His religious belief was Baptist. Mr. Stringfellow was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Bertie Benjamin ‘Skip’ Stringfellow, in 1975; also by two brothers, Ted Stringfellow and Bertie Stringfellow. Survivors include his wife, Helen A. (Reynolds) Stringfellow of Pangburn; four daughters, Helen Rushing of Wilburn, and Angela Doyle, Irene King, and Sandra Duncan, all of Pangburn; one brother, Bill Stringfellow of Benton; six sisters, Gladys Redus, Faye Fullbright, and Freda Brewer, all of Little Rock, Polly Scrade of California, Valarie Ponder of Heber Springs, and Ladotta Vlastaskis of North Carolina, six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Mr. Stringfellow is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, 5:00-8:00 P.M. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Heber Springs. Graveside services with military honors will be held Friday at 2:00 P.M. in the Henderson cemetery with John Myatt officiating. Pallbearers will be Monel Vlahon, David King, Jr., Michael Doyle, Garry Reynolds, Timothy Golden, and Rick Davis. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Mr. Otis Haward Westerman

Mr. Otis Haward Westerman, age 88, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2004, at Beverly HealthCare in Heber Springs. Born May 19, 1916 at Quitman, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Allen and Cellie (Holland) Westerman. Mr. Westerman was a retired barber and had been a resident of Heber Springs most of his life. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army, and he was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion. Mr. Westerman was a member of the Church of Christ. His wife, Eva Bell (Earnhart) Westerman, preceded him in death on March 14, 2003. Mr. Westerman is survived by one son, Charles (Pete) Westerman of Russellville, one daughter, Carolyn Barger of Heber Springs, one sister, Florine Siddall of Morrilton, and four grandchildren. Mr. Westerman is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, Nov. 8, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 1:00 P.M. in the Olmstead Chapel with Coy Dan Siddall officiating. Interment with military honors by the American Legion Honor Guard will follow in the Heber Springs cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wain Westerman, Wendall Westerman, Allen Siddall, Alex Rosier, Tommy Earnhart, and Gene Earnhart. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Lee Earnhart and Ronnie Earnhart. Mrs. Bertha B. (Clark) Hutchison

Mrs. Bertha B. (Clark) Hutchison, age 90, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, November 6, 2004, at Beverly HealthCare in Heber Springs. Born in Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania, on March 3, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Andrew J. and Bertha (Garrity) Clark. While working for General Motors in Illinois, she met her future husband, Lowell B. Hutchison. They were married for sixty-four years. Mrs. Hutchison was a homemaker and mother. She and her husband had been residents of Heber Springs since 1974 and enjoyed fishing. Mrs. Hutchison was a member of St. Albert’s Catholic Church and loved working in the church. She was a member of the Church Choir and also sang duets. She is survived by her husband, Lowell B. Hutchison of Heber Springs, two sons, Thomas Hutchison of Lowell, Indiana, and Paul Hutchison of Cle Elum, Washington, two daughters, Barbara Rueter of St. Louis, Missouri, and Christina Mavry of Lowell, Indiana, fourteen grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hutchison is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Funeral mass will be held Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 10:00 A.M. in St. Albert’s Catholic Church with Fr. Vincent Udo Ogbuji officiating. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Robert (Doc) Moms

Robert (Doc) Moms of Heber Springs died November 8, 2004 from a long bout with cancer. Doc served as a corpsman in the Marine Corp from 1964-1967 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was born in Joliet, Illinois, April 12, 1947, and is preceded in death by his father Robert W. Morris, his mother Phyllis Dorothy Thompson, and daughter Kathleen Morris. Survivors are his wife Sue Morris of Heber Springs, son Shawn Moms of Phoenix, AZ, his brother Dr. Kenneth Morris of Bay City, MI, and one grandchild Kenneth Michael Morris. Doc was a member of the Heber Springs Christian Church where he served as the Outpost Leader of the Pointman International Ministries. He was a retired pastor and ministered to many prisons in Illinois, and was the pastor of the Christian Church in Phoenix, AZ. He also served as the Outpost leader for Pointman International Ministries in St. Johns, AZ.

Memorial services will be held at the Heber Springs Christian Church on Veterans Day, November 11, 2004, at 11 :00 A.M. with Harold Clements officiating. Donations are requested to go to the Heber Springs "Pointman International Ministries" to support projects for our veterans. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Mr. Zebb B. Wilkinson

Mr. Zebb B. Wilkinson, age 72, of Cabot, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2004, at St. Vincent Doctors Hospice in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on June 28, 1932, he was the son of the late Rennoe and Myrtle (Stanford) Wilkinson. Mr. Wilkinson was a retired truck driver and had been a resident of Cabot for six years. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion. Mr. Wilkinson’s religious belief was Baptist. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ace Wilkinson. Survivors include his wife, Patricia G. (Stokes) Wilkinson of Cabot, one son, Keith Wilkinson of Michigan, one daughter, Miriam Aguirre of La Feria, Texas, four stepsons, three stepdaughters, one brother, Farrell Wilkinson of Beckville, Texas, four sisters, Bonnie Johnston, Pansy Brown, and Maxa Smith, all of Quitman, and June Berry of Drasco, six grandchildren, fifteen step grandchildren, and five step great-grandchildren. Mr. Wilkinson is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Nov. 2, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Graveside services with military honors will be held Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 1:00 P.M. in the South Cross Roads cemetery with Bro. Ed Manis officiating. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Alvin Leon Hipp

Alvin Leon Hipp, age 76, of Sunny Slope, Arkansas, passed away Monday, November 1, 2004, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Heber Springs. Born in Prim, Arkansas, on December 8, 1927, he was the son of the late Emmitt L. and Edna (Hines) Hipp. A lifetime resident of Cleburne County, Mr. Hipp was a retired farmer. He enjoyed music and attended Sunny Slope General Baptist Church. Mr. Hipp was preceded in death by a son, Tim Hipp, who passed away in 1980. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Wilma Sipes. Mr. Hipp is survived by: his wife of 48 years, Pat (Taylor) Hipp of Sunny Slope, one son, Ronnie Hipp of Sunny Slope, one daughter, Chris Nichols of Heber Springs, one brother, Emory Hipp of Dallas, Texas, three sisters, Juanita Morgan of Ft. Smith, and Willie Edith Lemmon and Sheila Baker, both of Dallas, Texas, seven grandchildren, Pennie, Candi, Ashley, Jonathan, Aaron, Avery, and Kyle, and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Hipp is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Nov. 2 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 2:00 P.M. in the Sunny Slope Church with Rev. ELLA MAY REDDICK BOGER, AGE 95 A RESIDNET OF ST. PAUL, MN, FORMERLY OF HEBER SPRINGS, passed away OCTOBER 29, 2004. THE DAUGHTER OF THE LATE WEAVER AND IDA REDDICK. SHE WAS preceded in death BY HUSBANDS, RED BITTLE, HORACE HARPER AND TURNER BOGER, AND ALSO HER SON, WILEY C. BITTLE. SHE IS SURVIVED BY DAUGHTERS, PICOLLO HARPER MATHISON, HUDSON, WISCONSIN AND REV. Mr. Charles William Galeazzi

Mr. Charles William Galeazzi, age 84, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, November 2, 2004, at St. Vincent Doctors Hospice in Little Rock. Born December 15, 1919, at Melcher, Iowa, he was the son of the late Joe and Leona Galeazzi. A former resident of Knoxville, Iowa, Mr. Galeazzi had been a resident of Fairfield Bay since 1975. He was a retired construction worker, and he was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Mr. Galeazzi was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gene Galeazzi. Survivors include his wife, Mae (Pearson) Galeazzi of Fairfield Bay, three sons, Charles Galeazzi and his wife, Elaine, of Knoxville, Iowa, Joe Galeazzi of Overland Park, Kansas, and Jeff Galeazzi of Fairfield Bay, three daughters, Marilyn Ridnouer and her husband, Mike, of Marshville, North Carolina, Mary Crandall and her husband, Bruce, of Des Plains, Illinois, and Michelle Kirkendoll and her husband, Terry, of Clinton, one sister, Ila M. Walton of Iowa City, Iowa, twenty-seven grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. Mr. Galeazzi is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

A rosary will be held Friday at 5:00 P.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Funeral mass will be held Saturday at 10:30 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Fr. Tom Keller officiating. Interment will follow in Woodland Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Matt Ridnouer, Tim Galeazzi, Peter Scarpelli, Nick Galeazzi, Jake Kirkendoll, and Blaine Galeazzi. Arrangements: Olmstead Funeral Home, Heber Springs.

Mrs. Cora Lee West

Mrs. Cora Lee West, age 83, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Monday, November 1, 2004, at Southridge Village Nursing Center in Heber Springs. Born June 27, 1921, in Cleburne County, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Wylie and Julia (Horton) York. A lifetime resident of Cleburne County, Mrs. West was a retired cook. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, and fishing. Mrs. West was a member of the Rocky Point Baptist Church in White County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward West. Survivors include her sister, Helen Skinner of Heber Springs, and her nieces and nephews. Mrs. West is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. West will be held Thursday, Oct. 4, at 1:00 P.M. in the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Rolland officiating. Interment will follow in South Cross Roads cemetery. Mr. Richard D. Neal

Mr. Richard D. Neal, age 74, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Monday, November 01, 2004, at Beverly HealthCare in Heber Springs. Born November 15, 1929, at Crystal Lake, Illinois, Mr. Neal was the son of the late Gilbert and Pauline (Citizen) Neal. Mr. Neal was a retired customer service representative for North Illinois Gas. He had been a resident of Heber Springs for eleven years and served as treasurer of the Little Red Literacy Council. Mr. Neal was a veteran of the United States Army, and he was a member of the American Legion Post #64. He was a Christian. Survivors include his wife, Dovie (Short) Neal of Heber Springs, two sons, David Cristeal of Arlington, Virginia, and Christopher Neal of San Francisco, California, two daughters, Dorothy Schnoor and Barbara Neal, both of Crystal Lake, Illinois, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mr. Neal is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Nov. 8, at 10:00 A.M. in the Querhammer and Flagg Funeral Home in Crystal Lake, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Legion Post #64 of Heber Springs or Cleburne County Hospice. Local arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Elva Jennings

Elva Jennings, age 89, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2004, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. Born September 20, 1915, at Prim, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Andy and Arizona (Everett) McCarty. A lifetime resident of Cleburne County, Mrs. Jennings was retired from Heber Springs Public School as head cook. She was a member of Heber Springs First Assembly of God. Her family and church were both dear to Mrs. Jennings. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Jennings, who passed away in 1988. Mrs. Jennings is survived by: two sons, Walter Jennings of Little Rock and Maurice Jennings of Fayetteville, one daughter, Doris Jennings of Dallas, TX, three brothers, Arnold McCarty of Greers Ferry, Max McCarty of Fifty Six, and Ted McCarty of St. Louis, MO, two sisters, Dorothy Jean Bennett of Greenville, MO, and Jessie George of Purcell, OK; six grandchildren, Dr. Bryan Jennings, Briana Diez, Walter Jennings, Marci Jennings, Karla Rojas, and Sheri Adams, and six great-grandchildren, Zachary Jennings, Amanda Rojas, Benjamin Adams, Andrew Adams, Will Adams, and Eleanor Adams. Mrs. Jennings is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jennings will be held Friday, Nov. 5, at 2:00 P.M. in the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. Bruce McCarty officiating. Interment will follow in South Cross Roads cemetery. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc., Heber Springs.

Mrs. Bessie Nell (Hooper) Jones

Mrs. Bessie Nell (Hooper) Jones of Quitman, Arkansas, passed away at her home on Wednesday, November 3, 2004, at the age of 82. Born in Quitman on August 18, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Oliver Gusty and Leala (Harris) Hooper. Mrs. Jones was retired from Westinghouse. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sheryl Jones; her parents; three brothers, Gene, Alton, and Maxell; and two sisters, Mildred Ivy and Lourene Maddox. She is survived by her nieces and nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 5, at 2:00 P.M. in the Center Point Church with Rev. Eldin Hodges officiating. Interment will follow in the Center Point cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wesley Johnson, Justin Johnson, Joe Ivy, Jr., Gary Ivy, Rodney Bennett, Kenny Hooper, and Jay Hooper. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Clarence William Parker

Clarence William Parker, age 89, of Higden, died on Sunday, October 31. He was born May 22, 1915, one of ten children. His only surviving sibling is Sue Rose of Griffithville, AR. Mr. Parker is survived by four children: daughters, Betty Moncrief and her husband, Phil, of Higden, Von Watkins and her husband, Ralph, and Dot Temple, all of Sherwood, and son, Don Parker and his wife, Eleanor, of Wynne, AR. He is also survived by four step-children, Clarence Hicks of Arkadelphia, Oscar Hicks of Pine Bluff, T. L. Fortenberry of Higden, and Jo Ann Owens of McGehee, twenty-six grandchildren, thirty-nine great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Parker is preceded in death by two wives, Oma Cecil Atkins Parker and Edna Hicks Fortenberry Parker; one son, Clarence W. Parker, Jr., (Sonny); and one great-granddaughter, Miranda Plafcan. Mr. Parker served in the United States Army in World War II in Belgium and Germany, and he was a master carpenter in Stuttgart and the Greers Ferry Lake area.

Services will be at the West Side Baptist Church, Hwy. 92 in Greers Ferry, on Wednesday at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. Van Harness officiating. Interment will follow in the Higden-McLehaney cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons: David Moncrief, Rusty Watkins, William Parker, Jeffrey Plafcan, Chris Fortenberry, Jim Moore, Micah Govar, Chance Govar, and John Govar. Visitation for family and friends will be at Olmstead Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 PM. The family will be at the Moncrief home at #14 Pine Hill Estates in Higden. Memorials can be made to the West Side Baptist Church in Greers Ferry, AR 72067, or to the American Heart Association. Arrangements by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc., Heber Springs.

Claud Lavern Hatfield

Claud Lavern Hatfield, age 76, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Friday, December 31, 2004, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born in Humphrey, Arkansas, on June 22, 1928, he was the son of the late Harvey Chester and Mary Jane (Barnett) Hatfield. Mr. Hatfield was retired from the United States Air Force, and he was also a cook for an off-shore oil rig. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War and the American Legion. Mr. Hatfield’s religious belief was Baptist. He was preceded in death by two stepsons, John and Larry Liles, and two brothers, Hubert and Raymond Hatfield. Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Clarice (Ratsch) Hatfield of Heber Springs; three sons, Claud Hatfield, Jr. of Memphis, Tennessee, and Mike Hatfield and Joe Hatfield, both of Jacksonville; two daughters, Charlotte Daniels of Hopewell and Mary Hatfield of Jacksonville; two stepsons, Mark Liles and Donald Liles, both of Hopewell; two stepdaughters, Shirley Anderson of Hopewell and Deborah Brewster of Drasco; three brothers, Harvey Hatfield of Elyvia, Ohio, and Marshall Hatfield and Larry Hatfield, both of Hot Springs; three sisters, Martha Hosto of Stuttgart, Ann Puleo of Houston, Texas, and Bertie Flatt of Vaiden, Mississippi; many grandchildren and step-grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, and his nieces and nephews. Mr. Hatfield is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 6, 2005, at 1:00 P.M. at the Arkansas State Veterans cemetery in North Little Rock. Military honors will be provided by the V.F.W. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Ralph B. Bittle

Ralph B. Bittle of Bourbon, Missouri, passed away Monday, January 3, 2005, in St. Louis County, Missouri, at the age of 78 years. Born December 22, 1926, at Quitman, Arkansas, he was the son of the late William and Flarra Love Bittle. Ralph was raised on the family farm and later graduated from Quitman High School. After graduating, Ralph became employed with the Rural Electric Co-Op of which he was associated with all of his life. In 1975 an opportunity came in Crawford County, Missouri, to work with the Co-Op there. Ralph retired from there as a line superintendent in January of 1993. On April 23, 1950, he was united in marriage to Clotene Wright at Heber Springs and to this union four children were born. Ralph was known as a man who loved his grandchildren and family and was fond of bird hunting. He was past president of the Benton Jaycees, former mayor of Clinton, Arkansas, and coached Little League. Ralph was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Benton, Arkansas, and Temple Baptist Church of Sullivan, Missouri. He is survived by his wife, Clotene, of the family home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Kim Bittle of Clinton, Mark and Janna Bittle of Bourbon, Missouri, and Charles and Kandy Bittle of Fredericktown, Missouri; one daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Warren Potts of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; two sisters, Elwanda Baldridge of Heber Springs and Betty Chesbro of Bixby, Oklahoma ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. Along with his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by four brothers, Lowell, Max, Jess, and Alton Bittle, and two sisters, Jean Bivens and Lillie Mae Rorie.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Jan. 4, at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 5, from 6:00-9:00 P.M. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 6, at 11:00 A.M. in the Olmstead Chapel with Pastor Scot Perry officiating. Interment will be in the Pearson cemetery. Pallbearers will be Warren Potts, Micah Potts, Bradley Bittle, Sam Bittle, Brady Bittle, Cody Bittle, Doug Bittle, and Kevin Rorie. Honorary pallbearer will be Michael Chesbro. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Jasper H. Carlton

Jasper H. Carlton, age 78, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2004, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Heber Springs. Born in Prim, Arkansas, on July 3, 1926, he was the son of the late James E. and Amanda (Prince) Carlton.

Mr. Carlton was a lifetime resident of Cleburne County, and he was a retired machinist. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army, and was the recipient of a Purple Heart. Mr. Carlton was a member of the First Assembly of God in Heber Springs. Survivors include his wife, Mary Anna (Stephens) Carlton of Heber Springs; three sons, Tim O. Carlton and Terry A. Carlton, both of Lincoln, Illinois, and Chris K. Carlton of Prim; one daughter, Retha Kay Jermac of Peoria, Illinois; two brothers, Foster Carlton and Pat Carlton, both of Prim; one sister, Pearl Turney of Atwood, California; eleven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. Mr. Carlton is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 30, from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 31, at 1:00 P.M. in the Prim Full Gospel Church with Rev. Lee Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Everett cemetery. Pallbearers will be Aaron Hunter, Eric Hunter, Chad Carlton, Chance Carlton, Ryan Carlton, Ty Carlton, and Chris Carlton. Honorary pallbearers will be Samuel, Adam, and Josui. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.
