Philip Purifoy
Judge Philip B. Purifoy, 64, of Texarkana, died May 7, 2003, at a local hospital.
Judge Purifoy was born March 5, 1939, in Texarkana. He graduated from Arkansas High School in 1957, received his Bachelors Degree from the University of Arkansas, and Law Degree from the University of Mississippi. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Mississippi State Bar, Arkansas Bar Association, Southwest Arkansas Bar Association, Texarkana Bar Association and Southwest Arkansas Mental Health Board. He served as Chairman of the Arkansas State Department of Youth Services Board and was past president of the Four States Fair Association. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Texarkana, Arkansas.
After practicing law in Arkansas and Mississippi, her served as Juvenile Referee for Miller County and Municipal Judge for Texarkana, Arkansas. He was elected Circuit Court Judge for the 8th Judicial District in 1982, where he served with distinction until his retirement in December of last year.
Judge Purifoy was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Mildred Purifoy; his brother, Dr. Leon Purifoy, and his father and mother-in-law, Joe Lee and Maurine Anderson.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years Jon Purifoy; his son, Phil Purifoy and his wife, Stephanie of Little Rock; his daughter, LeAnne Wright and her husband, Tim of Texarkana, and his grandchildren, Philip Purifoy III, William Purifoy, and Anderson Wright; his brother-in-law, Brady Anderson and his wife Betty of Austin, Texas; his sister-in-law, Shelba Jean Purifoy of Texarkana; his nephew, Chris Purifoy and nieces Peggy Purifoy Flink, Pam Purifoy Kososki, Elizabeth Purifoy Alexander, Helen Anderson Brauner, and Heath Anderson.
Interment services were 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at the Old Rondo cemetery in Texarkana. A memorial service followed at 11:30 at the Cabe Center, First United Methodist Church in Texarkana with the Rev. Rodney Steele officiating.

John Jordan
Mr. John Bill Jordan, 90, of Hope died Sunday, May 11, 2003, at Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
He was born September 21, 1912, in Nevada County to Andy and Lizzie Stroud Jordan. He was a retired poultry farmer and former owner/operator of Jordan's Body Shop in Hope. He was the oldest member of Unity Baptist Church in Hope and deacon there for 45 years.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace Lee Mitchell Jordan; two brothers, Carl and Raymond Jordan; and two sisters, Inez Easterling and Pearl Ellis.
His survivors include: his wife, Esther Stuart Jordan of Hope; two sons, Weaver Jordan of Seattle, Washington and Charles Ray Jordan of Tyler, Texas; one daughter, Shirley White of Dayton, Texas; two sister-in-laws, Hazel Jordan of Hope and Helen Mitchell of Texarkana, Arkansas; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope with Rev. I.V. Hight officiating. Burial followed in Memory Gardens cemetery in Hope. Arrangements by Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Unity Baptist Church, Building Fund, 402 S. Hervey St., Hope 71801.
Lee Jarvis
Mr. Lee Jarvis, 87, of Rosston, died Saturday, May 24, 2003, in his home.
He was born March 7, 1916, in Rosston, to Grover and Maggie O'Keefe Jarvis.
He was a retired Captain with the Arkansas Highway Police. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Rosston, a Mason, a Navy Veteran and a member of the Seabees.
He was precede in death by his wife, Ina K. Stinnett Jarvis, who died in February 2000; one son, John Jarvis; three brothers, John, Cleve, and Buddy Jarvis; and two sisters, Newell Wooten and Margaret Elmore.
His survivors include: two sons, Bill Jarvis and Daisy of Bearden, and Danny Jarvis and Terry of Willisville; three brothers, Wayne Jarvis of Rosston, Fred Jarvis of Camden and Jim Jarvis of Atlanta, Texas; three sisters, Elsie Williams of Rosston, Ted Martin of Camden, and Mary Lou Smith of Camden; four grandchildren, Kyle Jarvis, Jace Jarvis, Laurie Herring and Matthew Herring; one great-granddaughter, Taylor Jarvis.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at First Baptist Church in Rosston, with Rev. Mark Faulkner and Rev. Cris May officiating. Burial followed in Rosston cemetery in Rosston. Arrangements by Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott.
Family received friends Monday, May 26, 2003, from 6-8 p.m. at the Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home.
Perry Campbell
Mr. Perry Campbell, 77, of Perrytown, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2005, at a Texarkana Hospital.
He was born on February 4, 1928, in Hope to P.A. and Hassie Quinn Campbell. He was a self-employed restaurant and motel owner/operator in the Perrytown and Hope area. he was a Korean Army veteran; a charter member and founder in 1963 of Providence Memorial Baptist Church, Perrytown, in dedication to his mother; a member of the Board of Directors of Hope-Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce and 1994 Citizen of the Year; one of founders of Hempstead County Ambulance Service; Mayor, name-sake and one of founders of Perrytown; one of founders of Perry’s Truck Stop and Restaurant; instrumental in founding of Perrytown Volunteer Fire Dept. and their Water and Sewer Dept., Oaks Café, Town and Country Restaurant, Millwood Inn and Restaurant, in 1985 Western Sizzlin of Hope and then in 2001, Dos Loco Gringos Mexican Food and Steakhouse; Best Western of Hope in 1984, Quality Inn and Holiday Inn Express in 1997. University of Arkansas Alumni member; former Life word Board of Director; Clinton Birthplace Foundation Board member; University of Ark. Community College at Hope food concession owner serving food at the local college for the past several years. On his 77th birthday and 20th anniversary of Western Sizzlin, Hope declared 'Perry Campbell Day'. One of his most important achievements was being inducted in April 1996 to the Arkansas Hospitality Association Hall of Fame. He had served on the Arkansas Lodging Association for many years and president 93-94 and recipient of the Golden Key Award for lodging in 1995. He continued to serve on the Executive Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
His survivors include: seven nieces, Iris Rose of Perrytown, Virginia Willis of Arlington, Texas, Vera Johnson of Stamps, Valdene Blackmore of Bryant, Vivian Mitchell of Van Buren, Violet Tonnemaker of Dallas, Texas, and Opal Lee Bshea of Magnolia; three nephews, Vic Campbell of Perrytown, Billy Dean Campbell of Coppell, Texas, and Glen Roberts of Hope.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2005, Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home Chapel of Hope. Rev. James Honeycutt, Rev. A.D. Livingston and Mayor Dennis Ramsey officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens cemetery in Hope. Arrangements by Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope.
Visitation was Tuesday, October 11, 2005, at from 6-8 p.m. at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope. Memorials made to Providence Memorial Baptist Church, Youth Center, P.O. Box 6611, Perrytown, Arkansas, 71801.
Douglas Wicker
Douglas B. Wicker of Texarkana, Texas, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at a local hospital.
Mr. Wicker was born May 10, 1924, in Prescott.
He was retired from Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant and East Funeral Home. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jean Wicker, of Texarkana, Texas; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dudley and Stephanie Wicker of West Valley City, Utah, Danny and Penny Wicker of Texarkana, Texas and Dennis and Deanna Wicker of Texarkana, Ark.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and JW Figueroa of Oklahoma City, Okla., Darlene and Brian Brouillette of Round Rock, Texas and Debra and Gerard Morse of Texarkana, Texas; one sister, Ethel Ellis of Prescott; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services were 11 a.m., Saturday, May 31, 2003, at East Memorial Chapel, Moores Lane with Rev. Wallace Edgar officiating. Burial will be in Caney cemetery, Prescott, under the direction of East Funeral Home, Moores Lane.
The family received friends 6-8 p.m., Friday at East Funeral Home, Moores Lane. Family were at #14 Lambeth Rd. Texarkana, Texas.

Ronald Toland
Ronald Dereck Toland, 14, of Prescott, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, near Hope.
He was born August 6, 1988, at Hope, the son of Wilburn and Sue Toland.
Survivors include his parents; three sisters, Rebecca Sue Toland and Ashley Lou Toland both of Prescott and Kevin Lynn Toland of El Dorado; two grandmothers, Mary Sue Toland of Hope and Mary Elizabeth Graham of Prescott; and great-grandmother, Pauline McKinnon of Prescott.
Graveside services were Wednesday, 10 a.m. at Golden cemetery, Hwy 8 West of Arkadelphia. Rev. Pat Fulmer officiating.
Family hours were 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home.
Melanie Dorman
Miss Melanie Mischelle Dorman, infant/newborn, of Bodcaw, died Thursday, May 29, 2003, at Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
She was born May 29, 2003, in Hope to Michael Prosser and Alisha Dorman.
She is survived by her father, Michael Prosser of Hope; her mother, Alisha Dorman of Bodcaw; paternal grandparents, Earl and Tina Prosser of Hope; maternal grandparents, Larry and Diana Dorman of Bodcaw; paternal great-grandparents, Sylvia Prosser and Gloria Moore, both of Hope; maternal great-grandmother, Marguerite Dorman of Bodcaw; maternal great-grandparents, Mary and E.L. Brown of Bodcaw; maternal great-grandfather, Harold Vines of Arkadelphia; paternal great-great-grandmother, Frieda Milam of Hope; and maternal great- great-grandmothers, Helen Vines of Buckner and Birtie Fincher of Hope.

James Hendrix
James William Hendrix, 56, of Antoine, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, at his home.
Mr. Hendrix was a long time employee of Anthony Timberland in Arkadelphia and a member of Antoine Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Senator Olen and Carmen Hendrix, one brother, Gerald Hendrix and one nephew, Scott Baldwin.
Survivors include his wife, Adrienne Hendrix of Antoine; two daughters, Cortney Lee and her husband, Rick of Saginaw, Texas and Carma Leigh Hendrix of Benton; two sons, Eric Hendrix and his wife, Shelia of Antoine and Anthony Holcombe and his wife, Mindy of Glenwood; five grandchildren; one brother, Darwin Hendrix and his wife, Beth of Antoine; one sister, Annette Baldwin and her husband, Dr. Jack Baldwin of Marshall, Texas; one sister-in-law, Bobbie Hendrix of Antoine and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 4, at the Antoine Church of Christ with Wallace Alexander, Jon Chadwell and Gene Jester officiating. Interment followed in the Antoine cemetery under the direction of Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.
Charles Jeanes
Charles Harvey Jeanes, 86, of Hope, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, in Prescott Manor Nursing Home.
Mr. Jeanes was born August 16, 1916, in Nevada County to Rich W. and Mattie P. Cothran Jeanes.
He was a retired master carpenter of Brown and Root Construction Company and was a Navy Veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Howard, Jewell, Thaddeus ‘Buck' and Dewey; and two sisters, Edna and Virgie.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Golden Jeanes of Hope; five daughters, Bobbie Looney and husband, A.C, of Bossier City, La., Leveta Hodges and husband, Bob, of Alice, Texas, Paula Williamson and husband, Glynn, of Hooks, Texas, Patricia Green and Crystal Wilson both of Houston, Texas; four step-sons, Larry G. Brown and wife, Sherry, of Hope, Lonnie Ray Brown of Hope, Dennis Brown and wife, Paula, of Mena and Terry Brown and wife, Nancy, of Friendship; one step-daughter, Judy C. Harris of Emmet and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Saturday, June 7 at Evening Shade cemetery in Hope with Mr. Harley Sisson officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home of Hope.
Edna Formby
Mrs. Edna Mae Formby, 86, of Prescott, died Sunday, June 8, at Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
She was born January 14, 1917, in Bluff City, to Ellis Taylor and Ella F. Billingsley Sudsberry.
She was a homemaker and mother. She was a member of the Prescott Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Formby, who died on December 15, 1980.
Her survivors include one son: Kenneth Formby and Linda of Prescott; one sister, Floy Haynie and Carl of Houston; and two grandchildren, Al Formby and Kim of Prescott and Hope Hatley and Michael of Prescott.
Graveside services were 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2003, in Bluff City cemetery in Bluff City with Mr. Harley Sisson officiating. Burial followed. Arrangements by Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott.
