Virgie Brantley
Mrs. Virgie E. Ames Brantley, 89, of Hope, died Monday, November 3, 2003, at Heather Manor Nursing Home in Hope.
She was born October 7, 1914, in Nevada County, to Jonathan Pitt and Elizabeth Bailey Ames.
She was a owner/operator of a pawn shop and sas station. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Hope and a member of Radiant Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Terrell C. Brantley, by one son, Jim Delma Brantley and by one sister, Irene Powell.
Her survivors include: two daughters, Lucille Brantley Ward and Louise Brantley Evans both of Hope; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2003, at Shiloh cemetery in Falcon with Rev. Earl Cumbie officiating. Burial followed. Arrangements by Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope.
Family received friends Tuesday, November 4, 2003, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Etta Russell
Etta Lucille Russell, 72, of Prescott, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2003, at Baptist Health in Little Rock.
Mrs. Russell was born on May 18, 1931, in Vernon Parish, Louisiana, the daughter of Joseph L. and Cassie E. (Morrison) Marsh.
She was a homemaker, member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 8671, and a Baptist.
Survivors include: one son, Kenneth Russell of Prescott and one sister, Alma Nell Burks of El Paso, Tex.
Funeral services were held Friday, November 7, 2003, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Shackelford Funeral Home with Jerry Westmoreland officiating. Visitation was Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Interment was at Okolona cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home in Prescott.
Dorotha Franks
Dortha Franks, 81, of Prescott, passed away November 7, 2003 at Hillcrest Nursing Center.
She was born March 4, 1922, near Prescott to Edgar and Mary B. Smith, but grew up in Deming, New Mexico.
She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1942 from the Masonic Hospital School of Nursing. She served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during WWII and after. Her tours of duty included various stateside locations plus Korea, Hawaii and the U.S. Hospital Ship Hope. After the death of her husband, J.B. Franks, she continued to operate his various business ventures in Prescott. She subsequently returned to nursing, serving as the Director of Nurses at the Nevada County Hospital and the County Health Nurse for Nevada County, where she retired in 1984.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Lindy Franks, and Roscoe and Anne Franks, all of Prescott; grandsons, Robbie Franks and Andy Franks, both of Prescott; and granddaughter, Lindsay Weeks and husband Peyton Weeks of Natchitoches, La.
A graveside service was held Saturday, November 8, 2003, at 11 a.m. at DeAnn cemetery in Prescott, the services being officiated by Rev. Jim Lenderman of the First United Methodist Church of Prescott. Visitation was November 7, 2003, between 6-8 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Home.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to Korean War Veterans Memorial, 900 Ohio Drive, SW, Washington, D.C. 20024, or your favorite charity.
Harold Steed
Harold David Steed, 62, of Minden, La., died November 6, 2003, in Minden.
He was born in Laneburg. He was a retired Military Air Force Reserve.
Survivors include: wife, Janette Steed of Minden, La.; son, Dennis Richard Steed of Shreveport, La.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Belinda Ann Rodela and Robert of Arlington, Tex., and Jennifer Elizabeth Steed of Euless, Tex.; step-sons, Anthony Ray Beale of Boise, ID, Charles Bryan Beale of San Pedro, Calif., and Gary Clay Beale of Lady Lake, Fla.; one sister, Geneva Steed of North Little Rock; three brothers, Thomas Leroy Steed of Jacksonville, Louis Ray Steed and Donald Richard Steed, both of Prescott; and 12 grandchildren, Zoe, Samantha, Morgan, Hannah, Raymond, Steven, Zachary, Christopher R., Christopher M., Sarah, Justin, and Gavin.
Services were November 8, 2003, at 3 p.m. at Evergreen Union Church with Rev. Weston Brown officiating. Graveside service at Evergreen cemetery.
Family received friends November 7, 2003, from 7-9 p.m.
Ernest Robison
Ernest "Rob" Robison, 63, died October 18, 2003.
He was born June 10, 1940.
He was the Commander with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Leo Mann Post 8671 on Wildcat Rd. He served his country in Korea and Vietnam.
Survivors include: his mother, one sister, three children, and three step-children.
There will be a military memorial service November 15, 2003, at 10:30 at the Post.
Lydia Miller
Lydia M. Miller, 84, of Magnolia, died Friday, November 7, 2003, at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Hot Springs.
She was born January 24, 1919, in Nevada County.
Mrs. Miller was a homemaker.
Survivors include: two daughters, Jo Catherine Rice and husband, Jerry, of Texarkana, Tex. and Elaine Miller of Heber Springs; one son, Raymond K. Lewis and wife, Lynda of Hope; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, November 10, 2003, at the Bodcaw #1 cemetery with Rev. Marcus Brown officiating under the direction of Smith Funeral Home in Stamps.
Visitation was held from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, November 9, 2003, at the funeral home.
Mary Ruble
Mary Sheila Ruble, 52, of Hot Springs, died Saturday, November 8, 2003.
She attended Chidester Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her son, Jerry Moore and two brothers.
She is survived by her sons, Randall Pettit of Hot Springs and James Pettit of Holly Springs; daughters, Rhonda Moore of Mesquite, Tex., Carmen Nordrum and Helene Ruble both of Chidester; four sisters, Jannette Hagemeister and Cindy Greer, both of Chidester, Annette Mitchell of Mesquite, Tex., and Kim Garske of Camden; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Tuesday at Chidester Baptist Church with burial in Bluff City cemetery. The family received friends from 6-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Proctor Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Leamon Wreyford
Mr. Leamon Kivet Wreyford, 78, a longtime resident of Hope, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2003, in a Prescott nursing home.
He was born March 15, 1925, in Columbia County to Luther and Bessie Wreyford.
He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Hope, past Commander of the V.F.W. in Hope, a retired butcher, and a decorated combat Veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by grandson, Jeffery Scott Palmer.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Own Wreyford of Shreveport, La.; one daughter and son-in-law, Johnnie and Fred Palmer of Shreveport, La.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kivet Edward and Lois Wreyford of and Ronnie and Laura Wreyford all of Hope; 11 grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.
Graveside services will held Wednesday, December 3, 2003, at the Shiloh Lamartine cemetery, near Waldo at 10 a.m. Visitation was at the Smith Funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2. Burial is under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home.
Clyde Auxier
Clyde Harrell Auxier, 63, died December 1, 2003, in Springfield. He was a 50 year resident.
He was born in Prescott on January 13, 1940. Parents names are Clyde Madison and Hazel Ellen (Wake) Auxier.
He served in the USAF. He grew up in Prescott until the age of 13, when he moved to Springfield. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1958 then began working at Weyerhaueser. He retired in 2002 after 37 years as a devoted employee. When he was younger, he enjoyed drag racing. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, airplanes and race cars.
He is survived by three daughters, Tonya and Troy Perkins of Springfield, Angela Burgess of Seattle, Wash., and Meagan and Brent Rohr of Grants Pass; former wife, Janet Auxier of Eugene; one sister, Shirley Schaaf of Eugene; and nine grandchildren.
Services were at 11 a.m. December 5, 2003, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints/Market Street Building. Visitation was 10-11 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
James White
Mr. James Michael White, 50, of Emmet, died Monday, December 1, 2003, at Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
He was born November 9, 1953, in Dallas, Tex., to James O. and Charlotte Todd White.
He was a master mechanic, and a Baptist.
His survivors include: two daughters, Latisha L. Ward of Camden and Misty Pennington of Wake Village, Tex.; his parents, James O. and Charlotte White of Emmet; one brother, Roger White of Austin; two sisters, Frankie Jo Powers of Texarkana, Ark., and Linda Ruth Casto of Emmet; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2003, at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home Chapel in Hope with Rev. Raymond Hicks officiating. Cremation arrangements by Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope.
