Carl West
Carl A. West, 91, of Willisville, died Sunday, March 14, 2004, in the his home.
He was born August 22, 1912, in Willisville, to the late George and Elsie West.
He was a retired employee of Berry Petroleum Company. He was a lifetime member of Willisville United Methodist Church. He enjoyed camping with family and friends and was an avid sports fan. Until recently he stayed very active and enjoyed riding his bicycle.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Flora Mae West; seven brothers; grandson, Jay West and a daughter-in-law, Shirley West.
Survivors are two sons, Carl Max West and wife, Dovie of Magnolia, and Bert West and wife, Diana of Marshall, Tex.; one daughter, Peggie Homishak and husband Herman of Hot Springs; one brother, George A. West of El Paso, Tex.; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; one brother-in-law Vergil Jackson and wife, Emma of Willisville; a host of Willisville friends that always supported each other with food and phone calls.
Funeral services were Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at 10 a.m. at Willisville United Methodist Church. Bro. Jerry Evans officiated, assisted by Bro. Gordon Rodgers and Bro. Sanford Hankins. Burial was in Willisville cemetery. Visitation was Monday, March 15, at Lewis Funeral Home in Magnolia from 6-8 p.m.
Pallbearers were Bert West, Brody West, Jerry Homishak, Herman Homishak, Gary Pyle, Gary Fuller, Greg Leuschner, Stephen Hilborn, Kent Reeves, and Mark Gray.

Mildred Hill
Mildred Marie Hill, 75, of Prescott, passed away March 30, 2004, at Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
Mildred was born January 18, 1929, in Delight, the daughter of Mack Dawson Hendrix and Minnie Alice (Hornaday) Hendrix.
Mrs. Hill was a homemaker and a member of Missionary Grove Baptist Church of Prescott.
Survivors include: one son, Michael Eugene Hill of Gaithsburg, Md.; one daughter, Barbara Sampson of Prescott; one sister, Flora Alice Milner of Waco, Tex.; three grandchildren, James Sampson, Jeffery Sampson, and Michelle Fountain; and three great-grandchildren, J.D. Sampson, Samuel Fountain, and Amanda Fountain.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, D.S. Hill, one daughter, Betty Louise Hill, and two grandchildren, Stacy Renee Hill and George Daniel Sampson.
Services for Mrs. Hill were Friday, April 2, 2004, at 10 a.m. at the Shackelford Funeral Chapel. Burial was held at Antoine cemetery. Officiating the service was Bro. Neil Ridling and Bro. Larry Jones under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott.

Jewelle Jenkins
Jewelle Gee Wilson Jenkins, long time resident of El Dorado, died at DeWitt on Sunday, April 4, 2004, where she had lived since 1997.
Mrs. Jenkins was born in Prescott on August 26, 1913, the daughter of Henry Johnston and Jewelle Temperance Gee Wilson, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Nancy Temperance Wilson and Allien Inez Wilson.
Mrs. Jenkins was well known for her many local civic and church, radio and television performances playing her musical saw, which was one of four originally played by her family in the early days of radio in Arkansas, beginning in the 1920's in Hot Springs.
For a number of years, she used her creative talents making felt flower arrangements, "Felts, by Jewelle of El Dorado", sometime selling, but mostly giving her attractive arrangements to friends and family. In her final years, she produced many needle-point pictures, one of which "The Last Supper" was given by her and hangs in the Vestibule First United Methodist Church in DeWitt, where she was a member of the time of her death.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church in El Dorado for more than 50 years.
She was married to Minor Ross Jenkins, Sr. on August 2, 1932, who preceded her in death in their 65th year of marriage.
She is survived by her children: Nancy Jenkins Groves and her husband Bill, of Pine Bluff; Minor Ross Jenkins, Jr. and his wife, Linda of Mountain Home, and Claude Wilson Jenkins and his wife, Marjorie of DeWitt; 10 grandchildren, Amy Jenkins Braswell, Jon-Claude Jenkins, Rebecca Jenkins Thompson, Alvin G. Groves, Anita Jewelle Groves, Michael Ross Groves, Joseph M. Groves, Robin Jenkins Hill, Minor Ross Jenkins III, and Jennifer Jenkins Branch, and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear friend and care-giver, Virginia Stewart.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, at First United Methodist Church, DeWitt with a 3 p.m. graveside service at Arlington cemetery in El Dorado by Essex Funeral Home of DeWitt. Visitation was 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 527, DeWitt, Ark. 72042.

Hugh DeWoody
Hugh William DeWoody was born at Sayre, on May 26, 1909, to Jim DeWoody and Lena Godley DeWoody.
He departed this life on March 19, 2004, in a local hospital.
Funeral services were Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Alton Fannin officiating. Interment was in Rosehill cemetery.
He was married to the former Frances Hagar at Gould, Okla., on June 29, 1935. They moved to Ardmore in 1955 from Waurika for him to become the OSU County Extension Director for Carter County. He was responsible for writing weekly news articles for 20 years as well as a daily radio program on agriculture. He was a past president of the Oklahoma County Extension Agents, Rotary and Lions Club. He was a member and past President of the National County Agents Association. He was a vocational agriculture instructor at Gould and Tipton before becoming County Agent at Waurika. He received the Service to Agriculture 25 year award as well as the 30 year award. He received the Distinguished Service Award for Extension Service and the 50 year Golden Rider Award. He was recently presented an award for his service by the Carter County Junior Livestock Show.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Worth Sunday School Class. He had also served as president for the Baptist Brotherhood as well as serving as a Sunday School teacher and deacon in churches in Gould, Tipton and Waurika.
In college at Magnolia A&M; he played football and was captain of the basketball team. He graduated from Oklahoma A&M; in 1933 with a double major in Agriculture/Horticulture and Science and Vocational Agriculture. His junior and senior years at Oklahoma A&M; he was a member of the Livestock Judging Team. In 1960 he received his Masters degree from OSU in Vocational Agriculture. He was an honorary member of the agriculture fraternity of Alpha Zeta.
He is survived by his wife, Frances, of the home; two daughters, Martheta Horn and her husband Mickey of Little Rock and Jane Walters and her husband Gene of Duncan; a grandson who was raised by the DeWoodys; Rocky Northcutt and his wife Cheryl of Ardmore; five other grandchildren, Tina Landeros of Dallas, Tex., Phelicia Scott of Duncan, Billy Walters of Duncan, Bambi Smith and her husband Buddy of Corpus Christi, Tex.; and a sister, Stella Pittman of Prescott.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Zula Walker; and a brother, John Ves DeWoody and a granddaughter, Dwayna Northcutt.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Craddock Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Cleo Dupy, John DeHart, Danny Steele, Don Conrad, Arthur Ricketts, and Glen Jones. Honorary pallbearers were George Hall, Roy Tompkins, Leo Roberts, Fred Chapman, George Hedger, Wayne Merritt, and Creede Speake.

Travis Mitchell
William Travis Mitchell, 80, of Stamps, died Thursday, April 8, 2004, at his home.
Mr. Mitchell was born April 1, 1924, in Fouke.
He was retired from Cottons Bakery, a member of First Baptist Church and a World War II veteran.
He was preceded in death by one wife, Nellie Henderson Mitchell; one son, Thomas Martin; and two granddaughters, Janice Landes and Melissa Martin.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo Mitchell of Stamps; three sons, James Mitchell of Paris, Tex., Travis R. Mitchell of Lewisville, and Johnny Mitchell of Murfreesboro; two daughters, Cassandra Fowler of Plano, Tex., and Missi Smith of Stamps; three brothers, the Rev. Marvin Mitchell of Texarkana, Boyce Mitchell of Stamps and J.C. Mitchell of Fouke; one sister, Juanita Nesbit of Little Rock; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were 2 p.m. Saturday in Concord cemetery, Fouke, with the Rev. Mike Turner officiating. Burial was under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

Vera Revis
Vera Mae Wicker Revis, 86, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 10, 2004.
She was born March 29, 1918, in Nevada County.
Mrs. Revis was a homemaker and a member of the Bible Missionary Church in Benton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dave and Annie Wicker, brothers, Frank and John Henry Wicker, sisters, Maybelle Revis, Opal Callicott, and Ruth Kirk.
Survivors include: husband of 35 years, L.C. Revis of Benton; step-son, Jerry Revis of Houston, Tex.; daughter and son-in-law, Janette and Bill Lambert of Texarkana; step-daughter, Johnnie Sue Glass of Texarkana; sister, Marzell Kirk of Prescott; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ashby Funeral Home Chapel with a 2:30 p.m. graveside service at Caney cemetery near Prescott. Ministers were Rev. Chuck Norwood and Pastor J. Emerson.
Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Ashby Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Bible Missionary Church building fun, 126 I-30 West, Benton, Ark. 72015 or to the Apostolic Tabernacle building fund, 2314 Military Rd., Benton, Ark. 72015.

Donald Jordan
Mr. Donald Feagin Jordan, 69, of Hope, formerly of Capitola, Fla., died Friday, April 9, 2004, in his home.
He was born March 14, 1935, in Capitola, Fla., to Alry Gunn Jordan, Jr. and Zane Grey Powell Jordan.
He was a realtor, an insurance agent, real estate appraiser, and a cattleman. He was chairman of deacons and member of Calvary Baptist Church of Hope. He received his Masters in Agriculture from University of Florida. He was formerly, in Florida, a county agent, 4-H leader, Lion's Club President, and Cattlemen's member, and in Arkansas, on Millwood Board of Realtors, Southwest Arkansas Christian Radio Network Board, Accredited Rural appraiser, Board of Arkansas Appraisers with six years certification and former President of Arkansas Chapter of American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers.
His survivors include: his wife of 44 years, Patricia A. Skinner Jordan of Hope; one son, John Alry Matthew Jordan of Cleveland, Tenn.; two daughters, Christine Ann Jordan Warlick of Alexandria, Va. and Kathleen Troy Jordan of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, Paul Rainey Jordan of Tulsa, Okla.; two sisters, Pal Sumner of Apalachicola, Fla. and Princess Akerman of Madison, Fla.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at Calvary Baptist Church in Hope with Rev. Charles Hendrick and Rev. Dick Roach officiating. Burial in Memory Gardens cemetery in Hope. Arrangements by Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, April 13, 2004, from 6-8 p.m. at Brazzel/Oakcrest.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Hospice of Texarkana (Hope Branch) 803 Spruce St., Texarkana, Tex. 75501.

Mildred Lusk
Mrs. Mildred Bratcher Graham Lusk, 71, of Texarkana, Ark., formerly of Prescott, died Saturday, April 10, 2004, at Wadley Regional Medical Center, Texarkana, Tex.
She was born June 6, 1932, in Prescott to Cleo and Ada Alice Carroll Vandiver.
She was a caregiver for disabled adults and loved the people she cared for. She was a Baptist. She was an avid flower gardener and reader. She loved her family, friends, NASCAR racing and country music.
She was preceded in death by two loving husbands, Coy Graham and George Lusk; by her parents, by one beloved son, Rusty Bratcher; by one brother, H.C. "Bub' Vandiver; and by two sisters, Gladys Montgomery and Margaret Matlock.
Her survivors include: one loving son, Mike Bratcher and Carole of North Little Rock; three grandchildren, Cuke Douglass and Cindi of Fouke, Dylan Murphy of Conway, and Casey Williams of Santa Maria, Calif.; four great-grandchildren, Cody Douglass, Cami Williams, Clint Williams III, and Haydien Bryant; wonderful neighbors and friends, Flip and Janie Wilson and Howard and Debbie Arterbury of Texarkana.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home Chapel in Prescott, with Rev. Jerry Westmoreland officiating. Cremation arrangements by Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott.
Family received friends Monday, April 12, 2004, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
