Dean Hughes
Dean Hughes, 60, of Prescott, died Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at Medical Park Hospital.
Mr. Hughes was born February 27, 1944, in Clark County to William Hardy and Lillie Beard Hughes.
He was an employee of Meyers Baker of Hope. He was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by one brother, Leonard Wayne Hughes.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Martindale Hughes of Prescott; one daughter, Carol Ann Hughes of Prescott; two brothers, William H. Hughes of Michigan and Jerry Hughes of Hope; four sisters, Mary Ida Mollette of Texarkana, Verna Mae Allen of Hope, Janie Capps of DeWitt and Linda Hughes of Texarkana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 22, 2004, at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home Chapel in Prescott. Burial followed in the Pleasant Ridge cemetery under the direction of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.

Annie Brotherton
Mrs. Annie Lee 'Tinsy' Phillips Brotherton, 84, of Blevins, died Sunday, May 22, 2005, in Christus St. Michael Health System in Texarkana.
She was born on April 2, 1921, in Hempstead County to Claud A. and Gladys Vaughn Phillips. She was a 1940 graduate from Little Rock Beauty School with her cosmetology degree and a retired bookkeeper for Blevins Public School System with 19 years of service having received her associates business degree from Red River Vocational Technical School in Hope.
She was a treasurer of the Prescott VFW Ladies Auxiliary since it’s inception; member of Marlbrook cemetery Association; Blevins High School Reunion Committee member; avid bingo player; and loved her baking, gardening and decorating. She was the Sundowner’s Lions Club Pig Roast Mascot in Sheridan, Wyoming for several years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George 'Hap' Brotherton, who died in 1963 and by one sister, Thelma Warnkon.
Her survivors include: one son, Robert H. Brotherton and Margo of Sheridan, Wyoming; one daughter, Gladys Ann Turner of Blevins; one brother, R.D. 'Son' Phillips of Blevins; four grandchildren, Sharon Turner of Fort Smith, Michelle Turner Dean of Nashville, Kris Dahl of Arvado, Colorado, and Megan Brotherton of Sheridan, Wyoming; five great-grandchildren, Fawn, Heather, Cory, Amaya and Gabriel.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home Chapel in Prescott with VFW Chaplain Carl Ray officiating. Burial followed in Marlbrook cemetery in Blevins. Arrangements by Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott.
Family received friends Tuesday, May 24, 2005 from 6-8 p.m. at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott.

Dovie Anderson
Dovie Irene Anderson, 96, of Stamps, died Thursday, May 5, 2005, at the Hempstead Manor Nursing Home in Stamps.
She was born January 5, 1909, in Nevada County. She was a member of the Emmanual Baptist Church in Magnolia, where she was a former church secretary.
She is survived by three sons: Wesley Anderson of McNeil, Willie Anderson of Magnolia, and Ernest Anderson of Texas; three daughters, Josephine Hunter of Magnolia, Geneva Perdue Rawls of Waldo, and Faye Jackson of Texarkana; brother, Johnny Loe of Magnolia; 27 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2005, at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps with Rev. Dewayne Dicus officiating with burial in Memorial Gardens cemetery in Magnolia, under the direction of Smith Funeral Home in Stamps.
Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Smith Funeral Home in Stamps.

Sue Pollock
Vada Sue Jones Pollock, 73, of Prescott died Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at her home.
Mrs. Pollock was born on November 14, 1930, in Ardmore, Okla., to Horace and Mary Elvira (Mae) Wilson Jones.
She was a former administrator of the Nevada County Hospital and a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons, Cary Stephen Pollock of Fayetteville and Bryan Scott Pollock and wife, Kattie of Prescott; seven grandchildren, Karrie Bailey, Kris Worthy, Cara Pollock, Maxwell Jones Pollock, Lauran Pollock, Will Fletcher Pollock and Chelsea Pollock; and three great-grandchildren, Stephanie Bailey, Brittany Bailey and Jessi Bailey.
Memorial services were held Friday, April 23, 2004, at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home Chapel in Prescott with Mr. Howard Horton officiating. Cremation arrangements by Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the local Hospice and/or the Susan A. Komen Foundation.

Minnie Austin
Minnie Ola Draper Austin, 103, of Pearland, Texas, formerly of Prescott, died Tuesday, April 20, 2004, in Pearland, Texas.
Mrs. Austin was born on September 15, 1900, in Atlanta, Texas.
She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Frank Austin.
Survivors include three daughters, Margaret Holloman of Little Rock; Grace Riley of Pearland, Texas and Virginia Reed of Williamsburg, W. Va.; one sister, Mamie Miller of Longview, Texas; eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Saturday, April 24, 2004, in the DeAnn cemetery with Mr. Howard Horton officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.

Melvin Marlar
J. Melvin Marlar, 60, of Willisville, died Friday, April 16, 2004, at his home.
He was born October 13, 1943, in Nevada County to Hoyle Marlar and by one brother, Mike Marlar and by one wife, Elvira Marlar who died in 2000.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Tittle Marlar of Willisville; one son, Billy Hamilton of Columbus; his mother, Ethel Marlar; two brothers, Sam Marlar of Camden and Jerry Marlar of Rosston; two sisters, Pat Marlar Wheelington of Rosston and Angela Marlar Mosley of Kilgore, Texas; his aunt, Ruby Council of Florida; his uncle, William Twiggs of Florida; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 22, 2004, at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home Chapel in Hope with Rev. Jerry Evans officiating. Burial followed in the Willisville cemetery under the direction of Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home of Hope.

Harlia Cox
Harlia Maria Ward Cox, 62, of Falcon died Thursday, April 22, 2004, at St. Michael's Hospital in Texarkana.
Mrs. Cox was born October 5, 1941, in Waldo.
She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Lois Ward and by a brother, Rodger Ward.
Survivors include her husband, Arval Cox of Falcon; three daughters, Rhonda Ramirez of Pittsburg, Texas; Millie Knight and Gina Baker of Falcon; two sisters, LaDon Jester of Kirby and Pam Jones of Bastrop, La.; one grandson; seven granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.
Graveside services were held Saturday, April 24, 2004, at Falcon cemetery with Mickey May officiating under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Stamps.

Barbara Gates
Barbara Gail Bright Gates died April 22, 2004.
She was born on January 18, 1942, in Prescott to the late Myrtle and William A. Bright.
Mrs. Gates graduated from Prescott High School and Henderson State University. She earned a MA in English from the University of Arkansas and was certified to be an administrator in 1991.
Mrs. Gates taught senior English for 27 years at Crossett High School where she was department head. In 1989, she became curriculum assistant to Superintendent John Fincher. Within her first year of administration she became interim superintendent serving the remainder of that year. She became superintendent of Crossett Public Schools in 1992. She retired as superintendent on June 30, 2001.
Professionally, Mrs. Gates was active in National Council of Teachers of English, AEA-NEA, Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators and Phi Delta Kappa. She served on the Southwest Arkansas Educational Co-op Board of Directors. Mrs. Gates also served in the 10-member forum for the American School Superintendent of the Danforth Foundation.
Community service included Ladies at Work and Rotary Club, where she served as president and where she was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow.
In 1990, she was awarded the Special Achievement Award from the Arkansas Educational Association. Also that year she was Crossett's Outstanding Woman of the Year. In 1993, she was the Lion's Club Citizen of the Year.
Mrs. Gates planned and helped organize the Adopt-a-School Program for the Crossett Schools and area businesses. This alliance promoted educational excellence, and it was one of the largest such programs in the nation.
Survivors include her husband Michael Gates of Crossett; one brother, William L. Bright and his wife Gail of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and many special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 25, 2004, at the First Baptist Church of Crossett with Rev. Larry White officiating. Interment followed in the Lakewood cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
Memorials may be made to the Barbara Gates Memorial Scholarship fund through an account established at First National Bank of Crossett or made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 701 Main Street, Crossett 71635.

Edna Dillard-Hurley
Mrs. W. Lynn Dickerson, 53, of Prescott, died Friday, July 15, 2005, in Hillcrest Care and Rehab in Prescott.
She was born on February 11, 1952, in Prescott to Marlyn Luther and Ada Hannah King. She was a former program supervisor for the State fo Arkansas at the Hope Migrant Center. She was a member of the Garret Memorial Baptist Church in Hope and a member of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include two son, Brian Dickerson and Tami and Matt Dickerson and Angel Hawthorne all of Prescott; and three grandchildren, Colton Dickerson, Hannah Dickerson, and Mason Dickerson all of Prescott.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2005, at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home Chapel in Prescott, with Rev. Jerry G. Westmoreland officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Ridge cemetery in Prescott. Arrangements by Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott.
Family received friends Sunday, July 17, 2005, from 2-4 p.m. at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott.

Phenys Adams
Phenyx Diana Raine Adams, infant daughter of Charlie and Amanda Adams of Texarkana died Monday, April 26, 2004, at her home.
Phenyx was born December 17, 2003, in Texarkana, Texas.
Other survivors include one sister, Raevyn Sierra Adams of Texarkana; grandparents, Frances and Ronnie Howze of Fouke, Mary Rhodes Adams of Texarkana, Ark. and Robert Adams of Port St. John, Fla., great-grandmother Mable Rhodes of Prescott; and a number of other relatives.
Services were held Saturday, May 1, 2004, at Texarkana Funeral Home Fuqua-Everett Memorial Chapel with Sonny Parsons officiating. Burial was in Rondo Memorial Park.
