Nola Graham
Mrs. Nola V. Graham, 94, of Prescott, died Monday, February 21, 2005, at Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
She was born February 2, 1911, in West Plains, Mo., to Joseph I. and Fannie Heard Brown. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Prescott.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harmon H. "Red" Graham, who died in 1981 and by one grandson, Scott Andrew Graham, who died in 2000.
Her survivors include: one son, James M. "Jimmy" Graham of Prescott; two daughters, Gail Reddin and Ida Haynie both of Prescott; one step-son, Howard B. Graham of Prescott; one brother, Richard S. Brown of Liverpool, New York; one sister, Margie Affronte of Erie, Penn.; five grandchildren, Graham Hardin of Corpus Christi, Tex., Traci Graham of Conway, Richard Graham of Prescott, Robert Haynie of Little Rock, and Carol Haynie McDonald of Little Rock; several greats, great, greats, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2005, at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home Chapel in Prescott, with Rev. Jerry G. Westmoreland officiating. Burial in DeAnn cemetery in Prescott. Arrangements by Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott.
Family received friends Tuesday, February 22, 2005, from 6-8 p.m. at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott.
Joan Cummings
Mrs. Joan Corbell Herring Cummings, 68, of Prescott, died Friday, February 18, 2005, at Hillcrest Care and Rehab in Prescott.
She was born on November 28, 1936, in Teague, Texas, to Richard Hill Herring and Elizabeth Bell Herring. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Prescott.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by one brother, Richard Hill Herring, Jr.
Her survivors include: her husband of 46 ½ years, Albert Howard Cummings of Prescott; two sons, Howard Hill Cummings of Bellingham, Wash. and Gary Brian Cummings of Fairmont, W.Va.; one daughter, Mary Cathryn Allen of Austin, Tex. and four grandchildren, Rory C. Allen, Kody C. Allen, Hannah Cummings, and Moriah Cummings.
Memorial services are 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2005, at Central Baptist Church in Prescott, with Rev. Perry Johnson officiating. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday, February 25, 2005, in Greenwood cemetery, Teague, Tex. Arrangements by Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott.
James Worthington
James W. (Jim) Worthington, 63, passed away on February 3, 2005, at his home in Huxley, Texas.
Jim was born on May 26, 1941, in Prescott to John Tillman Worthington and Nancy Gist Worthington.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 6, 2005, at Toledo Bend Baptist Church in Huxley with Bro. Jack Forbis and Bro. Doyle English officiating. Interment followed at the Wimberly cemetery, also in Huxley.
Jim was born and raised in Prescott, where he was known as Jimmy Worthington. As a young child he loved being on the farm with Ma-Maw and Pa-Paw Worthington. He also started "working" at the early age of 10 with his grandmother, Maw-Gist in the grocery store. Jim loved fishing and hunting with his grandpa, Paw-Gist.
During his high school years, Jim's love of football led him to become one of Prescott's outstanding football stars of the late 50's. He was a star running back for the Prescott Curley Wolves and graduated in 1959. Jim was selected to the All-District team, received All-State honors, and was also honorable mention for the All-American team in football. He also excelled in all other sports like basketball, baseball, and track. He was selected to the All-District team in basketball.
Upon graduation, Jim was awarded an athletic scholarship to the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. While earning his degree in business, he continued his successes on the football field as a running back/tailback for the Razorbacks. While at Arkansas, Jim's Razorbacks were selected to play in several bowl games. He play in two Sugar Bowl games in New Orleans and one Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Jim graduated from the University in 1964, moved to New Orleans, La. for a short time, then moved to Shreveport, La. where he was employed as a production supervisor for Western Electric. Western Electric eventually became Lucent Technology. After 24 years of faithful service Jim retired at the early age of 48 years and he moved to Toledo Bend Lake in east Texas. Here he enjoyed children, grandchildren, friends and fishing and hunting. He loved fishing with the grandchildren.
Jim was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shreveport, La. Attended Toledo Bend Baptist in Huxley.
Survivors include his wife, Nelda Worthington of Huxley; sons: James W. Worthington II of Richland Hills, Tex. and Scotty Liles and wife Linda of Stanley, La.; daughters: Nancy Kay Krail and husband Freddie of Kileen, Tex. and Shonda Elliott and husband Wayne of Huxley, Tex.;grandchildren: Kristin, Brittany, Chelsey, Cassidy, Kerri, Kathryn, Ashley and husband Chuck, Blake, Jordan, Kaleb and Ellie; brother: Gerry Worthington and wife Terri of Nashville, Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents: John Tillman Worthington and Nancy Gist Worthington: grandparents: J.W. Gist and Bess Gist; J.M. Worthington and Johnnie Worthington.
Pallbearers were longtime friends: Gene Lung, Bill England, Ross Ochoa, Bert Furlow, Dave Headley, Charlie Patton, Dave Sherwood, Bob Allen, Marty Kuchar, Bill Morton and Ben Felts.
Edna Ratcliff
Edna Pauline Alsobrook Ratcliff, 85, of Stamps, died Thursday, February 24, 2005, at the Magnolia Hospital in Magnolia.
She was born January 2, 1920, in Cale, to the late Edgar and Zula May Godle Alsobrook.
Mrs. Ratcliff worked many years as a nurse at the Prescott Hospital and Magnolia Clinic. She was a member of the Stamps Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake Ratcliff; two great-grandchildren, Reagan and Landon Belk; two sisters, Patty Jane Samuelson and Lois Bright and by a brother, Elwood DeWoody.
Pauline held God, family and honor above all else. She will be forever remembered.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Jones and Bobbie Genell Barham both of Stamps; granddaughter, Rhonda Staggs and husband Michael of Stamps; great-grandchildren, Colton and Dawson Belk, Austin and Adam Staggs; one sister, Lillian Langston of Searcy; one brother, Thomas Alsobrook of Oklahoma; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends whose lives she has touched.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 26, 2005, at Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Petie Ward officiating with burial in Lakeside cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home in Stamps.
Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Smith Funeral Home.
Leon Jackson
Leon Jackson, 72, of Prescott, died Monday, February 21, 2005, at his home.
Mr. Jackson was born October 10, 1932, in Prescott.
He was preceded in death by his wife and one son.
Survivors include one daughter, Dorthea Jackson Lacy of Gurdon; one son, Leon Jackson, Jr. of El Paso, Texas; three sisters, Melvine Jackson of Omaha, Neb., Lela Hardamon of Prescott and Darlene Santos of Three Rivers, Mich.; two brothers, Lewis Jackson fo Rockford, Ill. and John Earls Jackson of Prescott; six grandchildren; a number of other relatives and friends of all walks of life including, Chlois Cummings Newman family, James McGough family, Sexton Grocery, Larry McKamie and employees.
Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, at St. Mark Baptist Church. Burial was in Sweet Home cemetery, Prescott.
Betty Morehead
Betty Lou Morehead, 67, of Buckner, died Saturday, March 5, 2005, at the Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
She was born January 17, 1938, in Waldo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert Watkins and Gladys Wreyford.
Mrs. Morehead was a member of Buckner Methodist Church. She was a beautician operator for many years in Buckner.
Survivors include: husband, Arthur B. Morehead of Buckner; one son, Michael Lynn Morehead of Buckner; four daughters, Rhonda Carol and Jerry Dyer of Bossier City, La., Karen Beth and John Ed Dorman of Bodcaw, Michelle Raye Zeigler of Jacksonville, N.C. and Sharon Gayle and Steve Taylor of Emmet; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps with Rev. David Watkins and Rev. Charles Walthall officiating with burial in the Shiloh Lamartine cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home in Stamps.
Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home in Stamps.
Edmond Parks, Jr.
Mr. Edmond L. 'Eddie' Parks, Jr., 57, of Blevins, died Monday, December 12, 2005, at his home.
He was born on November 24, 1948, in Little Rock to Edmond L. Parks, Sr. and Keron Oleta Baker Parks.
He was preceded by his mother, Keron Parks.
His survivors include: three daughters, Krista Parks and Rhonda Parks, both of Calif. and Brandy Tollett of Hawaii; his father, Edmond L. Parks, Sr. of Blevins; two brothers, Freddie Parks and Robbie of Blevins and Steven Parks and Donna of Prescott; four sisters, Bobbie Phillips and Arvel of Prescott, Paulette Jones and Garry and Judy Parks all of Calif., and Nevada Clark and Grant of Hope; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 14, 2005, at Liberty cemetery in Prescott with Mr. Fred Parks, Jr. officiating. Burial followed. Arrangements by Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott.
Family received friends Tuesday, December 13, 2005, from 12-5 p.m. at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott.
Avie Wylie
Avie Weaver Wylie, 88, of Springdale, died December 11, 2005, in Springdale.
She was retired from Civil Services. She was born January 24, 1917, in Hempstead County to William G. and Lou Freeman Weaver. She was a member of Emmet Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Denman N. Wylie; two sisters, three brothers and one half brother.
Survivors include one sister, Marie Crouch of Monroe, La.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services were Thursday, December 15, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Herndon Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Westmoreland officiating. Interment was at Snell cemetery in Emmet, under the direction of Herndon Funeral Home.
Visitation was Wednesday, December 14, 2005, from 6-8 p.m. at Herndon Funeral Home.
Services were under the direction of Herndon Funeral Home in Hope.
Jane Bemis
Mrs. Jane S. Bemis, 88, of Prescott, died Sunday, December 18, 2005, at her home.
Funeral services are incomplete at this time but will be announced by Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott.
Ethel Hanning
Mrs. Ethel Pauline 'Polly' or 'Mamaw' Hanning, 91, of Fayetteville, passed from this life on Saturday, January 21, 2006, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville.
Mrs. Hanning was born December 7, 1914, in Van Buren to Cornelius and Nancy (Hicks) James.
She was preceded in death by her husband, T.G. 'Thell' Hanning and their only child, a son, David Lee Hanning.
Pauline and her husband, Thell were managers of Sterling Store in Brinkley, Prescott, Searcy, and Benton and retired in Benton after 53 years of employment with Sterlings. In 1995, Mrs. Hanning moved to Fayetteville, where she was a member of University Baptist Church. She enjoyed living at Arkanshire and the Weddington Place Sr. Apartments. She especially loved going to the Fayetteville Senior Citizens Center every day to eat lunch and visit with friends there. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a special lady to everyone that knew her.
Cherishing her memory are her granddaughter: Leigh Hanning Ellis of Fayetteville, Julia Hanning of Benton; her grandsons, John David Hanning of Brooklyn, New York, James Douglas Hanning of Fayetteville, and her great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Reagan Ellis of Fayetteville, Tony, Logan, Autumn, Corbin, and Carson Hanning of Texarkana, Ark. survive her.
Visitation was held on Monday, January 23, 2006, from 4-6 p.m. at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville.
Graveside funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2006, at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fayetteville Senior Center at 945 South College Fayetteville, Ark. 72701.
