Carrie Smith
Mrs. Carrie Lucille Nivens Smith, 92, of Prescott, died Monday, January 23, 2006, in Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
She was born on March 18, 1913, in Hempstead County to John Gabriel and Carrie Mae Lloyd Nivens. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Church of Christ in Prescott.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clarence Jefferson Smith; by one son, Clarence Lyndell Smith, and by eight brothers and sisters.
Her survivors include: one son, Larry Gene Smith, Sr. of Hot Springs; one daughter, Joan Carole Stuard and Allan of Prescott; one sister-in-law, Leota Holland Nivens of Arkadelphia; five grandchildren, Carrie Holborn and Ira of Melburne, Carla Smith and B.T. of Glenwood, Sonnet Kopecky Booth and Rob of Kyle, Texas, and Daniel Stuard and Kathrin of Augusta, Ga.; seven great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2006, at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home Chapel in Prescott, with Mr. Harley Sisson and Rev. Jerry G. Westmoreland officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery in Prescott. Arrangements by Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott.

Rev. John Carlton
Rev. John Henry Carlton, 88, of Bodcaw, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2006, at Medicalodge Progressive Care in Texarkana, Ark.
He was born onFebruary 18, 1917, in Bodcaw, to Charles Henry and Arbula Octavia 'Octo' Lee. He was a retired minister, farmer, and former truck driver of Meyers Baker in Hope. He was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church of Bodcaw. He was a Mason and member of the Masonic Lodge in Centerville. He began his 44-year ministry in Knightons Chapel and retired in 1990 from Grace Baptist Church in Bingen, having served several other churches in the years between.
He was preceded in death by his parents; by one daughter, Brenda Banks; by one brother, Charles Carlton; and one sister, Beatrice Pine.
His survivors include: his wife of 71 years, Pearl Clements Carlton of Bodcaw; three sons, Dickie Carlton and Marilyn, Larry Carlton and Lana, and Randy Carlton and Sherry, all of Bodcaw; two daughters, Joy Chandler and Ronnie of Nashville and Jamie Whatley of Bodcaw; one son-in-law, Wayne Banks of Washington, Ark.; two brothers, Harlin Carlton of Bodcaw and William Hugh Carlton of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Marie Tye of Prescott and Vernita Ho of Bodcaw; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 29, 2006, at Union Missionary Baptist Church in Bodcaw with Rev. Joe Brown officiating. Burial followed in Union cemetery in Bodcaw. Arrangements by Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope.

Estelle Caldwell
Miss Estelle Caldwell, 91, of Hope, died Monday, February 6, 2006, at Woodland Hills in Little Rock.
She was born on February 19, 1914, in Columbus, to Robert and Mary Jane Dyer Caldwell. She was a teacher who taught in Hope Public Schools from 1953 until she retired in 1976. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hope and was a member of the Radiant Sunday School Class where she was active until illness made it necessary for her to move to Little Rock in 2003. 'Aunt Stell', as she was fondly called by her family, enjoyed doing and caring for others. We all know how blessed we were to have had her love and influence in our lives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, by four brothers, Joe, Delbert, Mark and Andy Caldwell and by one sister, Virgie Tubbs.
Her survivors include: one brother, Dale Caldwell and Becky of Douglass, Texas; five nephews, Robert L. Tubbs and Zerita of Dallas, Texas, Wayne Caldwell and Victoria of Houston, Texas, Jack Caldwell and Mary Beth of Little Rock, Kevin Caldwell and Kathy of Raytown, Mo., and Roger Caldwell and Judy of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two nieces, Cora Mae Stavinoha and Gilbert of Bangs, Texas, and Margaret Timme and Steve of Friendswood, Texas; 20 great-nieces, nephews, and seven great-great-nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2006, at Rose Hill cemetery in Hope, with Rev. Earl Cumbie officiating. Burial followed. Arrangements by Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope.
Family received friends, Wednesday, February 8, 2006, from 6-8 p.m. at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope.

Mary DeVenney
Mrs. Mary Lou DeVenney, 72 of Hope, died Sunday, February 12, 2006, at her home.
She was born on February 1, 1934, in Hope, to Kenny and Cletis Miller Easterling. She was a retired security guard for the former Meyer’s Baker of Hope. She was a Baptist.
She was preceded by her father, Kenny Easterling and by one brother, Charles Easterling.
Her survivors include: one son, Frank DeVenney and Judy of Hope; one daughter, Pat Beavers and Mike of Hope; her mother, Cletis Baker of Prescott; one sister, Debbie McDonald of Texarkana, Ark.; three grandchildren, Jason Downs and Angela of Cabot, Angela Camp and Bryan of Hope and Joey Downs and Ruth of Nashville; four great-grandchildren, Jordan, Seth, Lani and Becky.
Graveside services were at 10 a.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2006, in Memory Gardens cemetery in Hope, with Rev. John Mangum officiating. Burial followed. Arrangements by Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope.
James Taylor
Mr. James Earl Taylor, 24, of Fulton, died Friday, February 10, 2006, in an auto accident west of Hope.
He was born in Little Rock on January 25, 1982, to Jimmy Taylor and Janie Y. Caton Houch. He was a construction worker.
His survivors include: his wife, Amanda Williams Taylor of Fulton; one daughter, Jamie Lawson Taylor of Fulton; his father, Jimmy and Pamela Taylor of Rosston; his mother, Janie Y. Caton Houck of Little Rock; one sister, Tanya Michelle Wheelington of Little Rock; two half sisters, Misty Nicole Taylor of Helena and Carey Maxwell of Little Rock; and three nephews and two nieces.

Ola Zepka
Mrs. Ola Mae Sewell Zepka, 80, of Akron, Ohio (formerly of the Sweet Home Community), passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2006, in Ohio.
She was born in Prescott to John and Betty Sewell. She was a retired secretary from the University of Akron. She was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, the Business and Professional Woman’s Association, and the Lunch Bunch. She also enjoyed gardening.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Zepka; her parents; two sisters, and two brothers.
Her survivors include: one daughter, Candace Holland and Robert of Tallmadge, Ohio; one son, John W. Zepka and Kathy of Akron; one sister, Nellie Nunn of Fort Worth, Texas; one brother, Horace Sewell of West Farmington, Ohio; four grandchildren, Cyndie Fogus, John W. Zepka, III, Benjamin Holland and Katie Holland; three great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Graveside services were 1 p.m. Sunday, February 19, 2006, at the Sweet Home cemetery in Prescott with Mr. Harley Sisson officiating.

Paul Cross
Mr. Paul Hubert Cross, 79, of Prescott, died Saturday, February 18, 2006, at his home.
He was born on February 26, 1926, in Nevada County to Ruel Henry Miles Cross and Effie Estelle Stovall Cross. He was a logger for Dewayne Lee Logging Co. He was a non-denominational.
He was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Paul Richard Jackson; and by one brother, Powell Ebert 'Red' Cross.
His survivors include: his wife of 58 years, Vera Green Cross of Prescott; two sons, Billy Ruel Cross of Clinton and Paul Ronald Cross of Prescott; one daughter, Linda Bennett of Prescott; two sisters, Wanda Lee and Wanetta White both of Prescott; five grandchildren, David Eugene Jackson of Alexander, Timothy Hank Jackson of Malvern, Patricia Lynn Cole of Prescott, Alisha Ann Rogers of Nashville, and Jeramy Clay Fielding of Hope; and eight great-grandchildren.

Nickie Light
Mrs. Nickie Jo Light, 60, of Hope, died Saturday, February 18, 2006, at her home.
She was born on August 2, 1945, in Hope to G.W. and Alice Marie Crane Cleaver. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Prescott Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her father, G.W. Cleaver.
Her survivors include: her husband of 29 years, Kenny Light of Hope; one son, Michael Allen and Paula of Hope; her mother, Alice Marie Crane Lowdermilk of Prescott; three sisters, Jackie Brown and David and Marie Smith all of Prescott, and Wrenetta Greene of Socorro, N.M.; two grandchildren, Todd Allen and Jon Allen both of Hope; four nieces and nephews and other family members.

Mrs. Catherine Jo Roush, 80, of Prescott, died Thursday, February 16, 2006, at Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
She was born on May 17, 1925, in Douglas, Wyoming, to Charles J. and Merle Blakeman Saul. She was a director of Mary Kay Cosmetics. She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon L. Roush.
Her survivors include: two son, Charles Roush and Suzy of Prescott and Gary Blake Roush of Grand Junction, Colo.; one brother, William James 'Jim' Saul of Indio, Calif.; one sister, Margo Andrews of Portland, Ore.; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, February 24, 2006, at Congregational United Church of Christ in Douglas, Wyoming, with Rev. Carol A. Prochaska officiating. Burial to follow in Douglas Park cemetery in Douglas, Wyoming.
