J.W. Taylor
J. W. Taylor died Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at his home in Gurdon at the age of 87. Mr. Taylor was retired from Frizzell’s Lumber Company as a lift operator and a member of South Fork Baptist Church in Gurdon.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian Wells Taylor of Gurdon; daughter and son-in-law, Rev. David and Anna Blasé of Nashville; son and daughter-in-law, David and Priscilla Taylor, Canadian, Texas; 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents, Owen and Oma Taylor, brother, Ruie Taylor, sisters Mary Lou Howard and Virginia Curtis. His first wife of 58 years Billie Taylor and second wife Elois Taylor, and two infant children, John Cagle Taylor and Nelda Jean Taylor also preceded him in death.
Funeral services were Friday, May 26, 2006 at 2 p.m. in South Fork Baptist Church with interment in South Fork cemetery by Horne Funeral Home of Gurdon.
Visitation was Thursday, May 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home in Gurdon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Nashville or to South Fork Baptist Church of Gurdon.
James Arnett, Sr.
James Robert Arnett, Sr., 76, of Prescott, died May 23, 2006 in Texarkana, Texas.
He was a retired Master Sergeant with the United States Air Force, the U.S. Postal Service and H and R Block in Prescott. He was born November 21, 1929 in Murfreesboro. He was a Master Mason with the Evergreen Masonic Lodge, Quarter Master with the VFW 8671 in Prescott. He is the son of Sid and Beulah Fugitt Arnett.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Jimmy Arnett.
His survivors include his wife, Ruby Graham Arnett of Prescott; a daughter, Debbie Arnett of Grand Prairie, Texas; a son, Jason Kenworthy of Hope; two brothers, Ed Arnett of Mesquite, Texas and Bill Arnett of Emmet; three sisters, Betty Sue Johnson of Mesquite, Texas, Henrietta Lamb of Delight, and Carolyn Caver of Texarkana; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Services were held Friday, May 26, 2006 at 10 a.m. in Herndon Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Westmoreland officiating. Interment was at Nubbin Hill cemetery in Prescott, under the direction of Herndon Funeral Home.
Visitation was Thursday, May 25, 2006 from 6-8:30 p.m. at Herndon Funeral Home.

Bobby Hicks
Mr. Bobby Ray Hicks, 68, of the Caney Community of Prescott, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at his home.
He was born on May 22, 1938, in Nevada County, to Monroe Herman and Effie Ellen Green Hicks. He was a cattle and poultry farmer. He was a member of Morris Baptist Church of Caney; member of the Arkansas National Guard; member of the Farm Bureau Board; member of Nevada County Cattlemans; and member of the Governor’s Detention Jail Review Board.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leo, Larry, and Hilton Hicks.
His survivors include his wife of 45 years, Carolyn Wood Hicks of Caney Community; two sons, Dennis Hicks and Christ Hicks, both of Caney Community; two brothers, Adron 'Dobber' Hicks of Waterloo and Rev. Raymond Hicks of Caney Community; four sisters, Nellie Callicott of McCaskill, Inez Callicott of Caney Community, Elsie 'Pickey' Kale of Caney Community, and Bonnie Haynes of Prescott; two grandson, Lane Mayo and Caney Hicks, both of Caney Community; a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and a county full of loving friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 27, 2006, at Morris Baptist Church in Caney Community with Revs. Sam Tamburo and Raymond Hicks officiating. Burial followed in Caney cemetery in Caney. Arrangements by Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott.

Aimon Harrison
Mr. Aimon F. 'Bill' Harrison, 77, of Patmos, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at his home.
He was born in Drew, Miss., on August 21, 1928, to Benson Charles and Francis L. Fant Harrison. He was a retired staff Sargent from the U.S. Marine Corp in Communications and retired maintenance supervisor from the Hudson Hatcheries. He was a Baptist. He was a Veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam and member of the Hope VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife Dewey Gay Harrison who died 9-10-2005; and by two brothers Kenneth Harrison, and Harman Adrian Harrison.
His survivors include one son, Devins Ray Harrison and Barbara of Fayetteville, N.C.; four daughters, Francis J. Harrison of Hope, Artie Laurie McNeil and David of Spring Hill, Angela Ray and John of Jay, Okla., and Christy Bryan and Mike of Prescott; two brothers, Benson Charles Harrison, Jr. of Roswell, N.M. and Bobby Guy Harrison of Victorville, Calif.; six grandchildren, D. Ray Harrison and David McNeil and Windy all of Hope, Danny McNeil and Deborah of Texarkana, Ark., Kyle McNeil and Celeste of Arkadelphia, and James Gardner and Beverly and Laura Elizabeth Gardner all of Jay, Okla., and eight great grandchildren.
Grave side services were at 1 p.m., Friday, May 26, 2006 at Arkansas Veteran’s cemetery, North Little Rock, with Mr. Gary Aaron officiating. Burial followed. Arrangements by Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope.

Vernon Thompson
Mr. Vernon E. Thompson, 81, of Prescott, died Tuesday, June 6, 2006, in Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
He was born on March 7, 1925, in Big Springs, Texas, to Jerry S. and Alta Evans Thompson. He was a retired carpenter. He was a Baptist and an Army Veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by nine brothers and sisters.
His survivors include two brothers, J.Y. Thompson of Stephens and Donald Thompson of Mich.; one special niece, JoAnn Thompson of Prescott; four special great nephews, Michael, Greg, Adam, and Aaron, all of Prescott; a special like-a-granddaughter, Rachel Stermer of Gurdon and a special friend, Jack Lessie.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 8, 2006 at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home Chapel in Prescott, with Rev. Neal Ridling officiating. Burial was in Snell cemetery in Emmet. Arrangements by Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott.

Thelma Howell
Thelma Lucille Howell, 85, of Arkadelphia, formerly of Gurdon, died Thursday, June 1, 2006, at the Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia.
She was born Nov. 7, 1920 in Curtis, the daughter of the late Horace and Lura Belle Brakefield Arnold. She owned and operated the Daisy Queen Café in Gurdon for over 25 years and attended Third Street Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hess Howell; two brothers, Charles and J.W. Arnold; and one sister, Jean Cagle.
Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Knight of Arkadelphia and Betty Stoudt and husband, Ted of Gurdon; two brothers, Duke Arnold of Murfreesboro and Horace Arnold of California; two grandchildren, Tanya Dixon and husband, Randy of Arkadelphia and Kristin Jester of Gurdon; four great-grandchildren, Hayley and Jeffrey Dixon of Arkadelphia, Railey William and Devan Jester both of Gurdon; numerous nieces and nephews along with a special friend, Raymond Deardorff of Murfreesboro.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2006, in Ruggles-Wilcox Chapel with Rev. Greg Lathem officiating. Interment was in Easley cemetery near Gurdon. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were James and Wayne Arnold, Ronnie and Sonny Cagle, Jimmy Wright, Gary Plyler, Bill Gates and Jerry Langley.
Leon Harrison, Jr.
Mr. Leon Patrick Harrison, Jr., 60, of Nash, Texas, formerly of Bodcaw, died Saturday, June 10, 2006, at Christus St. Michael Health System in Texarkana, Texas.
He was born in Bodcaw, October 22, 1945, to Leon Patrick Sr. and Mary Esther Cearley Harrison. He was a carpenter and a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
His survivors include two sons, John Patrick Harrison and Becky of Hope and Jeff Harrison of Dallas, Texas; one daughter, Jennifer LeAnn Venable and Wiliam of Liberty Eylau, Texas; one sister, Karen Martin and Jerry of Prescott; six grandchildren, Mitchell Blake Harrison of Hope, Amanda Carol Jones of Hope, and Paxton, Harley, and Taylor Venable all of Liberty Eylau, Texas; and one nephew, Chad Martin of Conway.
Graveside services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at Union cemetery in Bodcaw, with Rev. David Hampton officiating. Burial followed. Arrangements by Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope.

Jose Ortiz
Jose Manuel Ortiz, 18, died June 23, 2006, as a result of an automobile accident.
He was an employee of International Paper Company and was of the Catholic Faith.
Survivors include his mother, Delfine Juarez of Gurdon; father, Raymundo Ortiz of Prescott; his girlfriend, Prajedis Munoz; daughter, Allison Michelle Ortiz of Prescott; four brothers, Ramiro Hurrea Jr., Luis A. Banda, Raymonda Ortiz Jr. and Jesus R. Ortiz; four sisters, Leticia Chavarria, Anna R. Aguilar, Maria D. Ortiz and Sonia Ortiz.
Funeral services were Tuesday, June 27, at 12 noon in the Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church in Hope, 315 South Walker St., with Father Felix Alaribe officiating. Interment was in Deann cemetery in Prescott by Shackelford Funeral Home.
Travis Watson
Mr. Travis Watson, 56, of Emmet, died Saturday, June 24, 2006, in Christus St. Michael Health System of Texarkana, Texas.
He was born in Hope, on September 12, 1949, to John M. Watson and Vinnie Gaines Watson. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and retired from Calmaine Foods and a rancher. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Emmet; a former bullrider; a member of the International Rodeo Association; member of the Cowboys for Christ; an outdoorsman; avia horseman; and loved any and all kinds of animals. He was preceded in death by his parents.
His survivors include his wife of almost 28 years, Brenda Sanders Watson of Emmet; one son, C.J. Watson and Cheryl of McNeil; one brother, Joe Watson of Baton Rouge, La.; two sisters, Marlene Minihan of Houston, Texas and Linda Sue Campbell of Blevins; one granddaughter, Kara Justine Watson of McNeil; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home of Hope, with Rev. Oliver McKamie officiating. Burial was in Watson cemetery of Ozan. Arrangements by Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home of Hope.

Dorothy Andrews
Dorothy Andrews, 99, died Friday, June 23, 2006 in Texarkana, Texas.
Survivors include one daughter, Louise Caplinger and husband Richard of Texarkana and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Sunday at 3 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in Liberty cemetery under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home.
