George Dulaney Jr.
George 'Buddy' Edmond Dulaney Jr., 72, died July 31, 2007, following a lengthy illness. A memorial service was held.
Buddy was an avid bowler and fisherman. His favorite fishing spots were the rivers on lakes of north Louisiana, east Texas and northeast Oklahoma.
He served in the US Navy from 1951 to 1961. During his service in the Pacific Theater he earned seven medals. After leaving military service, Buddy worked at various jobs. Most recently he worked with the Bossier Council on Aging’s Meals on Wheels program. He was also involved in the Senior Olympics. Buddy was born Nov. 6, 1934, in Borger, Texas, to George E. Dulaney Sr. and Mae Belle Fautheree Dulaney. He married
JoAnn Romano on Oct. 6, 1956, in San Diego, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Charlie Lee Dulaney and grandson, Robert Joseph Dulaney Jr.
His survivors include five children, Gloria (Dave) Jean Humphreys of Fort Wayne, Ind., Robert (Renee) Joseph Dulaney of Bossier City, Rosemarie Terese Dulaney of Jefferson, Texas, Linda (Les) Mae Collins of Broken Arrow Okla., and Georgia Marie Brummett of San Diego, Calif.; his sisters, Mae Rucker, Marie Kirkpatrick, Christine Dalton, Maxine (Clyde) Covington, and Dean (Billy) Ainsworth; many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and cherished friends.
Jimmy Johnson
Jimmy Don Johnson, 60, of Brownsboro, Texas, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, in Tyler, Texas.
He was born Dec. 23, 1946, in Prescott, to Herman Johnson and Gracie McDade Johnson. He was a landscaper and a member and deacon at New Life Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters, Donna Welch and Jannie Valdez, both of Brownsboro, Texas.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Johnson of Brownsboro; one son, Vernie Johnson of Brownsboro; one daughter, Jonie Finkenbider and husband David of Dallas, Texas; two brothers, Billy W. Johnson and wife Mary and Larry Johnson and wife Kathy, all of Laneburg; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and a host of friends.
Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 15, at 1:30 p.m. at the Chandler Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Chandler, Texas. Burial was at Holly Springs cemetery in Martins Mill under the direction of the Chandler Memorial Funeral Home.
Keith Sanford
Mr. Keith Sanford, 42, of Emmet, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, in St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Hot Springs, as a result of a motorcycle accident.
He was born on Sept. 30, 1965, in Prescott, to Leonard and Carolyn Campbell Sanford. He was an employee of Potlatch in Prescott. He was a member of New Liberty Baptist Church in Emmet, a Mason, a member of the Prescott Lodge, and former Army National Guard Reserve member.
His survivors include one son, Charlie Sanford of Emmet; one daughter, Heather Sanford of Prescott; his parents, Leonard and Carolyn Sanford of Prescott; one brother, Clay Sanford of Irving, Texas; one sister, Carrie Sanford of Prescott; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
The funeral service was at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13, at Harmony United Methodist Church in Sutton, with Revs. James Cox and Jerry G. Westmoreland officiating. The burial was in Harmony cemetery in Sutton. Arrangements were by Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott.
The family received Friday, Oct. 12, from 6-8 p.m. at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott.

Orene Flemons
The homegoing celebration for Mrs. Orene Flemons, who cherished her personal relationship with God, was held at the Mt. Ephesus Baptist Church on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at 11 a.m.
Orene was a pleasant, friendly and loveable woman who had been spoiled by her husband, the late Willie Flemons. Because he loved to take her on sight seeing adventures, she loved to just ride and look at scenery. When Willie passed, her children and Herman and Juanita Hopson tried to fill his shoes. They took her on many trips, the last being a trip to Saint Louis, Missouris, to celebrate her eighty-sixth birthday.
Memories of Orene Flemons will be cherished by her devoted children, Bobbie Clay and Calvin Flemons of Prescott, Fannie Colbert and Donald of Hope, Lee W. Flemons ad Valerie of Denver, Colo., Sylvester Flemons of Dallas, Texas; Rickey E. Flemons of San Leandro, Calif., and Timothy Flemons of Las Vegas, Nev.; one sister, Lillie Mae Mitchell of Little Rock; and one sister-in-law, Vira L. Flemons of Prescott; twenty-eight grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Maxine Burton
Ms. Maxine Burton, 87, of Buckner, died Oct. 1, 2007, in St. Michael’s Health System.
She was born Nov. 23, 1919, in Falcon to Profit Dismuke and Atta Hall-Dismuke. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where she served as usher president. She also worked as a child profider at Kiddie Kollege in Stamps until she retired.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willie Burton Sr. and two brothers, Virgil and Curtis Dismuke.
She is survived by seven children; one godchild; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; twelve grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was Saturday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m., at New Hope Baptist Church in Falcon. The burial was in the church cemetery.
A wake was held Friday, Oct. 5, from 5-6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home Chapel.
Paula Edwards
Paula Jan Edwards, 56, a resident of Dover, died Thursday, October 11, 2007, at the Baptist Health Medical Center in North Little Rock.
She was born November 16, 1950, at Shreveport, La., to Billy Bob and Glenda Bolt Reynolds. Paula was retired after 29 years as an elementary school teacher at the Dardanelle Primary School, Gurdon, Helena-West Helena and Barton Elementary Schools. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dover and the Gideons International Auxiliary. She loved her grandchildren and her time spent with them. She was preceded in death by her father, Billy Bob Reynolds.
Survivors include her husband of 37 years, John Edwards of Dover; a son and daughter-in-law, John C. and Meredith Edwards of Springdale; a daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Brent Peoples of Rudy; her mother and step-father, Glenda and Farrel Nelson of Bluff City; a brother and sister-in-law, Billy Jack and Kathy Reynolds of Kentucky; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Gail and Rusty Pendleton of Altamont Springs, Florida, and Cindy and Donnie Innis of Shreveport, Louisiana; four step-sisters, Shelley Dixon of Puerto Rico, Connie Wells of Gurdon, Doris Wright of Arkadelphia, and Laurie Pilgreen of Bluff City; four grandchildren, Landon, Christen, Brenna, and John Stephen Peoples, all of Rudy; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
The funeral was held at 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 15, at the First Baptist Church at Dover with the Rev. Jeff Paxton officiating. Burial was held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday at the South Fork cemetery at Gurdon under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.
Pallbearers were Chuck Hayward, Danny Minks, Tom Hill, Donnie Elliott, Jerry Hankins, and Clark Sellers.
The family received friends from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14, at the funeral home.

John Robbins
John Prentice Robbins, 91, of Hope, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, in Arkadelphia at Baptist Medical Center.
Mr. Robbins was a carpenter and a member of Shover Springs Baptist Church in Hope.
He is survived by two sons, Bob Robbins of Gurdon and Billy Robbins of Bismarck; two daughters; Jan Danner of Cullman, Ala., and Melinda Osborn of Hope; a sister, Ruby Watters of Truman; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Prentice was preceded in death his wife, Syble, a son, Buddy and a grandson, Randy Robbins.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, Oct. 20, at 10 a.m. in Easley cemetery.
A cremation service will be provided by Horne Funeral Home of Gurdon.
Rev. Willie Knight
Rev. Willie F. Knight, 86, of Hampton, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, in Council Bluff, Iowa.
He was the minister at the Hampton Missionary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Onie Drummond, Louise Stokes, and Virginia Ingram and one brother, J. V. Knight.
He is survived by his wife, Lejoy McBrayer Knight of Hampton; one son, Mark Knight of Farmeville, La.; two daughters, Gail Brown and husband Steve of Council Bluff, Iowa, and Sherry Brown and husband Ron of Crossett; two sisters, Zadie Palmer and Josselyn Jeffers of Camden; one brother, Vennis Knight of Nyack, N.Y.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 2 p.m., at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church with burial in Ebenezer cemetery near Bluff City. Rev. Don McCormick officiated the service. Visitation was Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Proctor Funeral Home.

Carroll Morehead
Mr. Carroll David Morehead, 86, of Prescott, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, at Hillcrest Care and Rehab in Prescott.
He was born on January 18, 1922 to John William and Ollie Lillian Ward Morehead. He was a wholesale grocery salesman who had owned and operated two grocery stores, one from 1950 to 1961 called Waterloo Grocery Store in Waterloo and the other from 1963 to 1987 called Carroll’s Grocery and Market in Prescott. After his retirement he then served as Prescott/Nevada County Veterans Service Officer for 15+ years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Prescott; Army Veteran of World War II; and a member of the American Legion and member of Prescott V.F.W.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hera Louise Bailey Morehead, who died in 2005; and one brother, Bruce Morehead.
His survivors include one son, Ronald David Morehead of Springtown, Texas; one daughter, Anne Gautsche and Sandy of Bedford, Texas; three grandchildren, Melissa Morehead

The funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 16, at First United Methodist Church of Prescott, with Rev. Jerry G. Westmoreland officiating. The burial was in Willisville cemetery in Willisville. The arrangements were by Brazzle/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.

Piper Killough West
Mrs. Piper Miche’lle Killough West, 41, of Hope, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, in Hot Springs as a result of a motorcycle accident.
She was born on Jan. 16, 1967 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Jerry Bonell and Peggy William Killough.
She was a self-employed business woman and co-owner/operator of West’s Wrecker and Towing Service in Hope; also, she was a former employee of Diamond State Bank of Hope.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jerry Bonell Killough.
Her survivors include her husband of 8 ¾ years, Jim West of Hope; one son, Austin Vanderveer of Hope; one daughter, Shelby Vanderveer of Hope; her mother, Peggy Northcott and Bob of Tulsa, Okla.; two brothers, Scott Killough and Emilyn of Edmond, Okla. and Darin Killough and Gina of Stillwater, Okla.; one special sister, Sonya Odom and Randy of Hope; her maternal grandmother, Erma Gilliam of Tulsa, Okla.; and her children’s father, Lynn Vanderveer of Prescott.
The memorial service will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 17 at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home Chapel of Hope, with Mr. Lynn Vanderveer officiating.
