Johnnie Zackery
Johnnie Zackery, 88, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of Rosston, died September 4, 1996, at an Omaha hospital.
Born March 16, 1908, in Rosston, she was the daughter of Van Phillips and Roxie Godbolt. She was a former member of Mt. Vernon A.M.E. Church in Rosston, where she served as stewardess and missionary. She was also a member of Chapter 97 OES PHA in Mitchell. After moving to Omaha in 1960 she joined the Bethel A.M.E. Church, where she continued to serve as a missionary and church stewardess. She was a member of the Wesley House.
Survivors include four daughters, Irene Jackson of Muskegon, Mich., Margie Sigular and Joanne Johnson, both of New Haven, Conn., and Roxie Atkins of Oakland, Calif.; six sons, James D., Euradell and Tilman Zackery, all of Omaha, Melvin E., Webster Jr., and Larry D. Zackery, both of New Haven, Conn.; one brother, Talmadge Phillips of Columbus, Ohio; 33 grandchildren; and 29 great grandchildren.
Services were held September 10 at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Omaha with Rev. H. Charles Farris officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Omaha under the direction of Myers Funeral Home of Omaha.
Horace H. McKenzie
Horace H. McKenzie, 91, of Prescott died at his home on Saturday, September 21, 1996.
Mr.McKenzie was a lifelong resident of Nevada County except for four years spent in El Dorado during the oil boom serving as chief deputy circuit clerk. He was born March 6, 1905, to the marraige of H.B. McKenzie and Fannie P. McKenzie. He graduated from Prescott High School at the age of 15 and attended Henderson-Brown College. After his father's death, he began managing McKenzie Abstract and Realty Company and studying law. March 6, 1933, he was licensed as an attorney at law. November 23, 1940, he maried Lawrence Britt. They were married
for 50 years until Mrs. McKenzie's death on Novmeber 30, 1990.
In 1934, McKenzie was the primary organizer of Prescott Federal Savings and Loan Association. He was chairman of the board of directors for 40 years. He served on the board of directors of Ozan Lumber Company prior to its acquisition by Potlatch Corporation. He was a member of the board of directors of Logan Grocer Company.
The law office of Mr. McKenzie was always in Prescott. His original office was a solo practice. In 1949, the law firm of Tompkins, McKenzie and McRae was formeed with W.V. Tompkins, Charles H. Tompkins and Duncan McRae. The law firm has continued and is now McKenzie, McRae, Vasser & Barber. He was a member of the Arkansas and American Bar Associations; Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers; and a Fellow of the International Society of Barristers. He served from 1965 to 1968 on the State Board of Law Examiners and for several years on the Arkansas State Revision Commission. He was appointed in 1973 as a special justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court.
Mr. McKenzie was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church, where he was always active. He served as chairman of the administrative board.
Survivors inlcude one son, Jim McKenzie, his daughter-in-law, Betty McKenzie of Prescott; his granddaughters, Kris Raub of McKinney, Texas, and Miki Morrow of Little Rock; his sister, Jeanette McCormack of Little Rock; and his great granddaughter, McKenzie Raub of Little Rock.
Services were held Monday, September 23, at the First United Methodist Church in Prescott with Rev. Dale Diffee officiating. Burial was in DeAnn cemetery in Prescott under the direction of Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
Helen Mitchell
Helen Marie Mitchell died July 22, 2005, at her residence.
She was born September 9, 1922, in Rosston to Fred and Margaret Sutton Fore.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband John Mitchell; daughter, Linda McGrew; son-in-law, Hunter Roberts and sister, Elise Crank.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Betty Mitchell; one daughter, Nancy Roberts; step son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Carol Mitchell and son-in-law, Jerry McGrew; her grandchildren, Kiley McGrew, Shelly and Jay Irwin, Evan McGrew, Robin and Angiee Mitchell, Preedawan Watkins, Elizabeth and Jonathan Roberts; step-grandchildren, Kimberly Mislan, Heather Peterson and Scott, Brett and Toby Mitchell; three great-grandchildren; and brothers, Herb, Gene, Jerry and Gary Fore.
She was a member of New Salem United Methodist Church.
Visitation was from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2005, at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home with services at 10 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2005, at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Horvath officiating. Burial was at Godwin cemetery.
The family met at 3910 Mountain Pine Road.

Billy `Roy' Carter
Billy Royce `Roy' Carter, 49, of Prescott died Sunday, September 22, 1996, in Prescott.
Born May 5, 1947, in Brummitt, he was part owner of D and D Training Center and previous owner of Running `C' Stables and Running `C' Feeds, an avid sportsman and well-known horse trainer at Oaklawn and Louisiana Downs. He was a member of Prescott Masonic Lodge, member of Arkansas Breeders Association and he was a member of United Throughbred Trainers Association. Mr. Carter was a Baptist and also a former superintendent of U.S. Contractors in Clute, Texas.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Carter of Prescott; a son, Chase Royce Carter of St. Louis, Mo.; two daughters, Brandy LeAnne Carter of Prescott and Wendy Carter of Houston, Texas; a stepson, Brandon Tullis of Prescott; his father, Royce Marion Carter and stepmother, Margaret H. Carter of Amity; his mother, Bertha Herring Warner and stepfather, Taft Warner of Lonoke; a brother, Joel Warner of Cabot; four sisters, Barbara Daughety of Richardson, Texas, Linda Sunwall of Little Rock, Tafa Dunlap of Spartenburg, S.C., and Phyllis Harris of Olive Branch, Miss.; and one grandson.
Services were held Tuesday, Septmeber 24, at Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home chapel in Prescott with Rev. Neal Ridling and Rev. Larry Jones officiating. Burial was in Missionary Grove cemetery under the direction of Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
Luther Henry Reese
Luther Henry Reese, 88, of Rosston died Wednesday, June 18, 1997, at Wadley Hospital in Texarkana, Texas.
He was born February 28, 1909, in Rosston.
Survivors include his wife, Esther Fielding Reese of Prescott; one son, William Dean Reese of Memphis, Tenn.; two daughters, Pauline Hawley, of Hope and Sue Buie of Prescott; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Friday, June 20, at Shackleford Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in Harmony cemetery at Sutton.
Gladys Franklin
Gladys Nancy Franklin, 96, of Prescott died Saturday, September 24, 1996, in Prescott.
Born June 28, 1900, in Bluff City, she was a member of the Church of Christ and the widow of James L. Franklin.
Survivors include a son, James L. Franklin Jr. of Rosston; a daughter, Virginia F. Wilson of San Diego, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 31 great grandhildren.
Services were held Tuesday, September 24, at the Bluff City Church of Christ with Gene Cloer officiating. Burial was in Bluff City cemetery under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott.
Joel David Chamlee
Joel David Chamlee, 83, of Texarkana, Arkansas, formerly of Cale, died Thursday, October 2, 1996, in a Texarkana hospital.
Born April 18, 1913, in Cale, he had lived in Texarkana for the past 47 years. He was a retired carpenter and was a member of Cathedral Heights Nazarene Church in Texarkana. He was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Chamlee.
Survivors include his wife, Blanche Sutton Chamlee of Texarkana; one son, Don Chamlee of Texarkana; two sisters, Evelyn Daniel of Prescott and Norma Jean Bulka of Montgomery, Ala.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday, October 5, in the Texarkana Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Harold Durham officiating. Burial was in East Memorial Gardens in Texarkana under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home.
Effie Mae Williams
Effie Mae Williams, 86, of Prescott died Saurday, October 12, 1996, in Columbia Medical Park Hosptial in Hope.
Born June 19, 1910, in Hickman County, Tenn., she was a homemaker, a member of the Church of Christ and the widow of Roy D. Williams.
Survivors include her daughter, Doris Needham of Prescott; one stepson, J.B. Callicott of Prescott; one sister, Dorothy Wall of Hot Springs; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were held Monday, October 14, at Mt. Moriah cemetery in Nevada County with Lynn Vanderveer officiating. The funeral was under the direction of Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
Adrian Brackman
Adrian Brackman, 78, of Prescott died Thursday, October 10, 1996, at Columbia Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
He was a graduate of the University of Arkansas and was retired from the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service, having served as county agent in Lincoln, Ouachita and Nevada counties. He was the recipient of Extenison Service's Distinquished Service Award.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the 104th Infantry Division. He was a 46-year member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Flo Reed Brackman of Prescott; one daughter, Linda Graham of Prescott; one brother, Bob Brackman of Stephens; and two grandchildren.
Services were held Sunday, October 13, at the First United Methodist Church. Burial was in DeAnn cemetery under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or a favorite charity.
Dakota Tyler Conway
Dakota Tyler Conway, infant son of Frankie and and Dawn Conway, of Prescott died October 7, 1996, in Columbia Medical Park Hospital in Hope. He was born October 7, 1996.
Survivors include his parents, Frankie and Dawn Conway of Prescott; one brother, Trevor Hunt of Prescott; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Ray of Prescott; paternal grandparents, Mrs. Marjorie Conway of Laneburg and Claude Conway of Dallas, Texas; and his great grandmother, Pearl Conway of Dallas, Texas.
Graveside services and burial were held Thursday, October 10, at Caney cemetery in Nevada County with Rev. Kenneth Ward Jr., officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
Louise Frances Steed
Louise Frances Steed, 68, of Fort Meyers, Florida, formerly of Prescott, Ark., passed away on October 15, 1996, following a brave battle against cancer. She was born May 8, 1928, in Prescott, Arkansas. She attended Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Louise received with honors her BA and Masters Degree from Henderson College. While working toward her doctorate degree in speech therapy, she taught High School English and Speech.
Much of her time and energy was devoted to her grandchildren, wanting to make a difference in their lives.
She is survived by her daughters, Karla Steed of Ocala, Fla. and Sheila Kagan and son-in-law, Dr. Bo Kagan, Ft. Meyers, Fla.; five grandchildren, Andrew and Nicole Fernung, Ocala, Fla., Lisa, Stephen and Ward Kagan, Ft. Meyers, Fla.; her mother, Susan Avery, Prescott, Arkansas; two sisters, Marie Cromer, Blevins, Arkansas, Lorene Gibson, Little Rock, Arkansas; three brothers, Alton Avery, El Dorado, Arkansas, Doris Avery, Arkadelphia, Arkansas, Clarence Harper, Little Rock, Arkansas.
Our family would like to thank everyone who showed such compassion and caring for all of us during this very difficult period of our lives. We will always appreciate your kindness.
Mom, you were here for us on earth, now you can watch over us smiling from God's Heaven! We miss and love you.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 26, 1996, at Midway Methodist church, Prescott, Arkansas. Rev. Jerry Westmoreland officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home, Prescott, Arkansas.
