Harmon Hughes
Harmon Beecher Hughes, 96, of Okolona died Wednesday, December 25, 1996, at Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
Born August 24, 1900, in Okolona, he was the son of the late Henry Beecher and Mollie Dickey Hughes. He was a retired farmer and a member of Okolona First Christian Church. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Myrna Rose Mauldin and Ruthe Erin Harris.
Survivors include his sister, Mary Edith Hughes of Prescott, and three nephews, Dorwin Harris of Oran, Mo., Richard Mauldin of Nashville, and Harvey Mauldin of Decature, Texas.
Services were held Friday, December 27, at Murry-Ruggles Funeral Home Chapel in Arkadelphia with Rev. Temon Jenkins officiating. Burial was in Rome cemetery under the direction of Murry-Ruggles Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Dorwin Harris, Richard Mauldin, Harvey Mauldin, Lankford Moore, Johnny Rutherford, Millard McCauley and Johnny McGuirt.
Charles T. Campbell
Charles T. Campbell, 64, of Prescott died Saturday, April 19, 1997, at Columbia Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
Born June 22, 1932, in Nevada County, he was the son of Charlie C. and Vollie McBride Campbell, a retired distributor for Borden Milk Company, where he was employed for 21 years and he was a self-employed farmer. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Prescott. He was preceded in death by one son, Chuck Campbell.
Survivors include his wife, Adell Campbell of Prescott; two daughters, Beverly Gay Marcum of Prescott and Dolly Henley of Washington; his mother, Vollie Campbell of Prescott; two brothers, Edmond and Wayne Campbell both of Emmet; four sisters, Erma Hignight of Fort Smith, Betty Honea and Carolyn Sanford, both of Prescott and Joann Sneed of Hope; and four grandchildren.
Services were held Sunday, April 20, at Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Tom Mitchell and Rev. Neal Ridling officiating. Burial was in Harmony cemetery in Sutton under the direction of Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
Dovie Gordon
Dovie Carrington Gordon, 90, of Sacramento, Calif., formerly of Prescott, died Tuesday, April 15, 1997, in Sacramento.
Born October 14, 1906, in Smackover, she was a housewife and mother.
Survivors include one son, James Gordon of Fair Oaks, Calif.; one grandson; and one great grandson.
Graveside services and burial were held Monday, April 21, at DeAnn cemetery in Prescott under the direction of Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
Jimmy `Jim' Daniels
Jimmy L. `Jim' Daniels, 57, of Bodcaw died Tuesday, April 15, 1997, at University Medical Center in Little Rock.
Born July 17, 1939, in Stamps, he was the son of I.J. and Norris Rogers Daniels. He was a USDA civil engineer with the Natural Resource Conservation Service in Hope. Mr. Daniels was a deacon and a member of Union Baptist Church in Bodcaw. He was the founder and director of `The Ambassadors' gospel singing group, a member of the Southern Gospel Music Association, and a U.S. Navy veteran from the Vietnam war. He served on the USS Midway. His family was selected as the 1984 farm family of the year for Hempstead County.
Survivors include his wife, Tammy Daniels of Bodcaw; one son, Jack E. Daniels of Bodcaw; one brother, Joe C. Daniels of Texarkana, Texas; one sister, Joyce Purtle of Round Rock, Texas; and his mother, Norris Rogers Daniels of Stamps.
Services were held Friday, April 18, at First Baptist Church of Hope with Dr. Perry Purtle, Rev. Jerry Evans and Rev. David Cook officiating. Burial was in Union cemetery in Bodcaw under the direction of Brazzel-Oakcrest Chapel Funeral Home of Hope.
Nancy `Bun' Spencer
Mrs. Nancy `Bun' Hayes Spencer, 99, of Hope, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 1997, in a Texarkana hospital.
Born September 1, 1897, in Okolona, she was the daughter of Thomas Henry and Beulah Cloud Hays, a graduate of Okolona High School and attended Henderson Brown University at Arkadelphia. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hope, a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and a member of the Tuesday Morning Bridge Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, former U.S. Senator George Lloyd Spencer, and their daughter, Hilda Kim, at the age of ten.
Survivors include a nephew, Thomas E. Hays Jr. of Hope; three nieces, Nancy Gottwald of Richmond, Va., Margaret Ann North of Midlothian, Va., and Jane Phelps of Little Rock; several great and great great nieces and nephews.
Services were held Monday, May 5, at First United Methodist Church of Hope with Rev. Davis Thompson officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery in Hope under the direction of Brazzel-Oakcrest Chapel Funeral Home of Hope.
Leon Neal
Leon Neal, 65, of Little Rock, formerly of Bluff City, died Friday, May 2, 1997, in Little Rock.
Born October 11, 1931, in Bluff City, he was barber, veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Nazarene Church.
Survivors include three nephews and five nieces.
Services were held Sunday, May 4, at Shackelford Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Joe Miller officiating. Burial was in Bluff City cemetery under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott.
Winford `Win' Foshee
Winford `Win' Foshee, 84, of Bristol, Texas, formerly of Prescott, died Thursday, May 1, 1997, at the Ennis Care Center in Bristol.
Born in Glenwood on April 7, 1913, he was the son of Upshur and Fannie Nash Foshee. He was a carpenter and a member of the Baptist Church of Nashville.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Foshee of Bristol; two sons, Joe Foshee of Bristol and Jerry Lynn Foshee of Valley Springs, Calif.; one sister, Dorothy Raines of Clarksville, Texas; one brother, Jewell Foshee of Midwest, Okla.; four grandchidlren; and one great grandchild.
Graveside services were held Monday, May 5, at Bristol cemetery with Revs. R.A. Stacy and Danny Iverson officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Lawrence Funeral Home of Ennis.
Leona Upton Cole
Leona Upton Cole, 89, of Midland, Texas, formerly of Hope, died Wednesday, April 30, 1997, at a hosptial in Odessa, Texas.
Born Sepotember 5, 1907, in Calhoun County, she was the daughter of Ed and Cora Dunn Upton. She was the retired owner of Cole's Double Dip Ice Cream Store and retired from Hempstead County Circuit Clerk's office in Hope. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hope.
Survivors include a daughter, Ann Gilbert of Midland, Texas; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were held Saturday, May 3, at Memory Gardens cemetery in Hope with Rev. Davis Thompson officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Brazzel-Oakcrest Chapel Funeral Home of Hope. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 400, Hope, AR 71802.
Raymon L. Robinson
Raymon L. Robinson, 63, of Hope died Tuesday, April 29, 1997, at St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana after a lengthy illness.
Born March 13, 1934, in Hempstead County, he was the son of the late Ben and Pearl (Prince) Robinson. He was employed by Meyer's Bakery, a veteran and a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Robinson of Hope; two sons, Ben L. Robinson of Carrollton, Texas, and Raymon L. Robinson of Rhome, Texas; one daughter, Lynell Faulkner of Hope; two stepsons, Jimmy Smith of Rosston and Walter Smith of Emmet; two stepdaughters, Annette Halcomb of Delight and Susan Dickerson of Hope; one brother, Laymon Robinson of Dickinson, Texas; eight sisters, Mildred Galloway, Irma Viarengo, Ann Butler, Martha Sallee, Deloris Purtle, Doris Jones and Janell Messer, all of Hope, and Vonnie Haltom of Magnolia; and 17 grandchildren.
Services were held Friday, May 2, at Herndon Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Charles Jones and Rev. Johnny Bailey officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens cemetery in Hope under the direction of Herndon Funeral Home of Hope.
Kenneth Cox Jr.
Kenneth James `Kent' Cox Jr., 17 months, of Hope died Tuesday, April 22, 1997, in Hope.
He was born November 15, 1995, in De Queen. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Doy Rook.
Survivors include his mother, Tracy Rook Cox of Hope; his maternal grandmother, Betty Rook of Hope; his paternal grandparents, Sam H. Cox of Hope and Dianna Applegate of Spring Hill.

Kathryn `Jade' Cox
Kathryn `Jade' Cox, 4, of Hope died Tuesday, April 22, 1997, in Hope.
She was born September 29, 1992, in Hope. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Doy Rook.
Survivors include her mother, Tracy Rook Cox of Hope; her maternal grandmother, Betty Rook of Hope; his paternal grandparents, Sam H. Cox of Hope and Dianna Applegate of Spring Hill.

Kenneth `Kenny' Cox
Kenneth James `Kenny' Cox, 27, of Hope died Tuesday, April 22, 1997, in Hope.
Born April 6, 1970, in Texarkana, Texas, he was meat market manager at Sav-A-Lot Food Store and a reserve officer for the city of Hope. He was a member of Anderson Baptist Church in Hope.
Survivors include his wife, Tracy Rook Cox of Hope; his mother, Dianna Applegate of Spring Hill; his father, Sam Henry Cox of Hope; two brothers, Sam H. Cox Jr. of Spring Hill and Charles Roger Cox of Hope; and one sister, Rebecca `Becky' Clark of Spring Hill.
Services were held Friday, April 25, at Unity Baptist Church of Hope with Rev. Harold Seward officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens cemetery in Hope under the direction of Brazzel-Oakcrest Chapel Funeral Home of Hope.
Ottis Virgil Elmore
Ottis Virgil Elmore, 73, of North Little Rock died June 10, 1997.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtie Bell Elmore; two sons, Charles T. Haynie and Lester Eugene Haynie; one daughter, Trudy Elmore; two sisters, Alta O'Rourke from Prescott, and Carlee Cranford of Malvern; nine grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 12, at Griffin Leggett Healey Rest Hills Chapel. Interment was at Rest Hills.
