Ruby Norton
Ruby Morton, 80, of Dallas, Texas, died Thursday, June 12, 1997, at Dallas.
Born February 24, 1917, in Blevins, she was the daughter of W.C. and Jimmie Mae Stigley Johnson. She was a permanent records keeper with the Dallas Independent School District. She was a member and past president of the Lake Highlands Garden Club and a naional accredited Flower Show Judge. She was active in North Texas Herb Club and past president of the downtown Dallas (Mrs.) Optimist Club.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph Morton; one brother, Woodrow Johnson; one son, Alexander Ralph Norton; three daughters, Jan Norton, Barbara Philp and Linda Sogner; three grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 16, in Union Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Rickey Burk officiating. Interment was in Union Grove cemetery under the direction of Herndon Funeral Home.
Shawn Worthey McCully
Shawn Worthey McCully, 22, of Blanchard, La., formerly of Hope, died Saturday, August 30, 1997, of cancer.
He was born February 4, 1975, in Hope. he was a member of First Baptist Church of Blanchard.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Mike and Vicki Worthey of Blanchard; his mother, Pam Merritt Block of Phoenix, Ariz.; his stepfather, Sam McCully of Kansas City, Mo.; two borthers, Charles Franklin Worthey of Texarkana, Ark., and Michael Jacob Worthey of Blanchard; two sisters, Karen Lee McCully of Independence, Mo., and Ashley Nicole Worthey of Texarkana; paternal grandparents, Frank and Peggy Worthey of De Queen; maternal grandparents, Paul and Carolan McCabe of Kansas City; great grandparents, LuVegie Brown of Emmet and Robert and Jean Watson of Hope; and his girlfriend, April Burmley of Blanchard.
Services were Monday, September 1, at Holly Grove United Methodist Church at Blevins with Dr. James Hill officiating. Burial was in Holly Grove cemetery at Blevins. Darrell A. Marsh
Darrell A. Marsh, 90, of Prescott died Friday, August 29, 1997, at Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana, Texas.
He was born January 27, 1907, in Prescott to John Clyde and Jarvie Aburrow Marsh. Mr. Marsh was a retired U.S. Secret Service agent. He previously owned a photography studio in Prescott and he had worked at Nevada County Hospital. He was a specialist in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva Weaver Marsh of Prescott; a son John D. Marsh of Prescott; a grandson and his wife, Daniel A. and Julie Marsh of Arkadelphia; and one great granddaughter, Jodi Marsh of Arkadelphia.
Funeral services were Sunday, August 31, at Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jerry Westmoreland officiating. Burial was in DeAnn cemetery in Prescott under the direction of Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
Charles U. McVay
Charles U. McVay, 86, formerly of Prescott, died Monday, August 25, 1997, in Wichita, Kansas.
He was a retired Boeing Airplane Co. employee.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel McVay; a son, Charles McVay Jr. of Wichita; a daughter, Jerry Ann Bean of Wichita; stepsons, Bennie Tidwell of Alamo, Nev., and Tom Tidwell of California; a brother, Raymond McVay of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Dottie Harris of Little Rock; 14 grandchildren; and 20 grandchildren.
Funeral services were Thursday, August 28, at the Faith Chapel Church in Wichita.
Searcy Lee Clanahan
Searcy Lee Clanahan, 73, of Bluff City died Wednesday, September 3, 1997, in a Little Rock hospital.
He was a retired employee of Gladden Ford Company in Gurdon and a member of St. John Baptist Church of Bluff City. He was born May 5, 1924, in Bluff City, the son of the late John and Luvenia Gulley.
Survivors include his wife, Lessie Ann Clanahan; one son, Searcy Clanahan Jr. of Prescott; one daughter, Gwendolyn Page of Prescott; two brothers, Clifton Gulley and Jimmy Gulley of Rockford, Ill.; eight sisters, Nellie Clanahan, Lee Florence Box and Birdie Mae Bowman of Prescott, Reesie Dismuke of Malvern, Ola Mae Perry of Los Aneles, Calif., and Brodie Ingram, Mae Dean Gulley and Gloria Williams of Rockford, Ill.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday, September 6, at St. John Baptist Church at Bluff City with Rev. Wallace Ingram officiating. Burial was in St. John cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.
Cleoler Hopson
Cleoler Patrie Vanaz McNeely Y. Hopson, 73, died, Saturday, August 23, 1997.
She was educated in Nevada County and received her bachelor of science degree from AM&N; College (now the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff) in Pine Bluff. She received her master of science degree from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia. She was a devoted elementary school teacher for 32 years nad taught in several southwest Arkansas school systems before retiring from the Oak Grove Public Schools in Rosston.
She was married
to James T. Yarbrough. Four children were born, one preceded her in death at birth. She was later married
to O.D. Hopson who preceded her in death. She was later married
to John B. Smith.
Survivors include two sons, James T. Yarbrough Jr. of Lake View Terrace, Calif., Danny Louis Yarbrough of Pacoima, Calif.; one daughter, Sandra L. Reaves of Rowlett, Texas: three brothers, Charles McNeely of Flint, Mich., and Percy McNeely and Curtis McNeely of Chidester; four sisters, Luella Criswell of Chicago, Ill., Murtis Green of Camden, Amelia Allen of Texarkana and Dimmie Walker of Malvern; five grandchildren; one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 26, at Antioch Baptist Church in Stephens with Rev. John Strickland and Bro. Richard Zackery officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Williams Funeral Home of Camden.
Beulah Barger Milam
Beulah Barger Milam, 82, of Prescott passed away Thursday, September 4, 1997, at Columbia Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Huey Milam.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Pat Milam of Prescott; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nina and Fred Williams of Maumelle and Betty and Roy Rodgers of Texarkana, Texas; one brother, James Barger of Sulphur, La.; three sisters, Nina Cavanah of Pine Bluff, Peggy Nichols of Stamps and Pat Thorp of Camden; eight grandchildren, Lynn Cox of Prescott, Debbie Gunnels of Shreveport, La., Steve Williams of San Jose, Calif., Kim Burton of Shreveport, Slaten McLelland of Dunkirk, Md., Karen Winston of Maumelle, Kyle Williams of Conway and Christy Niven of Texarkana, Texas; 15 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
Services were Saturday, September 6, at First United Methodist Church of Prescott with Rev. Jim Lenderman officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge cemetery under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott.
Elsie Mae Blalock
Elsie Mae Blalock, 52, of Prescott died Monday, September 1, 1997, at her home.
She was born March 18, 1945, in Prescott to Sammy nd Lillian Simpson Gentry. She was a housewife and mother.
Survivors include three brothers, Eddie Gentry of Prescott, Sammy Gentry Jr. of Ohio and Lee Edward Gentry of Prescott and one sister, Inez Sockwell of Prescott.
Funeral services were Saturday, September 6, at Mount Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Copeland officiating. Burial was in DeAnn cemetery in Prescott. Arrangements were under the direction of Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
Fannie Pearl Higginbotham
Fannie Pearl Glass Higginbotham, 87, of Prescott died September 1, 1997, at her home.
She was born August 1, 1910, to Lawrence and Lizzie Matthews Glass in Nevada County. She was a housewife and mother. When she was in her 60's she became a nursing assistant. She was an active, long time member of Morris Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, T.B `Thedie' Higginbotham, and her daughter, Lillian Hopson, and her brother, Lige Glass.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in law, Jodie and John Parr of Royal and Peggy and Dr. Arlis W. Loe of Texarkana, Texas; two sisters, Mary Cross of Rosston and Betty Bevill of Camden; one sister-in-law, Mildred Glass of Prescott; six grandchildren, Donna McKelvy and husband, Fletcher, of Prescott, David Loe of Fort Worth, Texas, Melanie Loe of Dallas, Texas, Angela Loe of Fayetteville, John R. Parr of Royal and Dr. Duane Hopson of Dallas, Texas; three great granchildren, Renee McKelvy of Hattiesburg, Miss., Damon McKelvy of Prescott and Julie Parr of Royal; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Wednesday, September 3, at Morris Missionary Baptist Church. Burial was in Caney cemetery with Rev. Larry Sims, Bro. Jim Cross and Bro. Britt Dupree officiating. Music was by Lifton Glass and Caney Quartet. Arrangements were under the direction of Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
Eulla Pry
Eulla Copeland Pry, 86, of Emerson, passed away July 20, 2005.
She was born June 16, 1919, and was the youngest daughter of Charles T. and Sallie Lamb of Delight. She was one of nine children. She was married
to Alfred Pry in 1937. She was a member of the Church of Christ and a devoted wife and mother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred; a son, Charles Pry of Emerson and a granddaughter, Angela Sims of Scott.
She is survived by two daughters, Anna Weeks of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla. and Martha Sims and her husband Jim of Scott; a son, David Pry and his wife Carolyn of Emerson; a daughter-in-law, Polly Pry of Emerson; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2005, in Bailey Chapel in Magnolia with Bro. Eric Goble and Bro. Buddy Chisholm officiating. Interment was in Snell cemetery in Emmet.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southern Christian Home, Morrilton, or American Cancer Society.
Darious W. Hendrix
Darious W. Hendrix, 83, of Waldo died Friday, October 24, 1997, in Bruce Street Life and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Hendrix was born June 6, 1914, in Delight to Mack Dawson Hendrix and Minnie Alice Hornady Hendrix. He was a retired forest ranger for the Arkansas Forest Commission. Mr. Hendrix was a member of First Baptist Church in Waldo. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Lou Hendrix.
Surviviors include his wife, Jamie Hendrix of Waldo; one son, Glen Hendrix of Pine Bluff; five grandsons, Paul Fox of Pace, Tony Fox, Roland Fox, Charles Hendrix and Mark Hendrix; four sisters and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday, October 27, at First Baptist Church in Waldo with Rev. David Jimerson and Rev. Williams officiating. Burial was in Shiloh cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home of Magnolia.
Lois Jean Lambert
Lois Jean Lambert, 57, of Perscott died Saturday, October 25, 1997, at Columbia Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
Mrs. Lambert was born in Uniontown, Penn., to George Eugene and Geraldine (Paugh) Clingan. She was a homemaker and was previously employed at Hillcrest Care Center and Nevada County Hospital. She was a member of the Lions Club and First Nazarene Church in Prescott.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph Earnest Lambert; one son, Scott Lambert of Bodcaw; her mother, Geraldine Harshman of Uniontown; three brothers, George Clingan of Uniontown, Frank Clingan of Little Rock and Douglas Clingan of Uniontown; two sisters, Charlotte Noble of Orlando, Fla. and Cathy Clingan Jackson of Prescott; and two grandchildren, Whitney and Jordan Lambert of Bodcaw.
Funeral services are today, Wednesday, October 29, at 10:00 a.m. at First Nazarene Church in Prescott with Bro. Michiel Yarberro and Bro. Philip Hull officiating. Burial will be in DeAnn cemetery under the direction of Shackleford Funeral Home of Prescott.
Ruby Thomason
Ruby Thomason, 89, of Prescott died Thursday, October 23, 1997, at Hillcrest Care and Rehab.
Mrs. Thomason was born November 14, 1907, in Boughton to Walter and Sally Barham Ridgell. A member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, she was a housewife. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Wesley Thomason, in 1990.
Survivors include one brother, Barham Ridgell of Little Rock; two sisters, Pearl Smart of Camden and Cleo Formby of Wichita Falls, Texas, and three nieces and three nephews.
