Flora Mae West
Flora Mae West, 74, of Willisville died Thursday, October 23, 1997, in St. Vincent Medical Center in Little Rock.
Mrs. West was born October 17, 1923, in Rosston to Bunyon and Ida Jackson. She was retired from Firestone in Magnolia. Mrs. West was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Clarence Jackson, and one grandson, Jay West. She was a member of Willisville Methodist Church. Active in community affairs, she was an avid camper and basketball fan.
Survivors include her husband, Carl West of Willisville; two sons and their wives, Carl Max and Shirley West of Dallas, Texas, and Bert and Diana West of Magnolia; one daughter and her husband, Peggie and Herman Homishak of Hot Springs; one brother and his wife, Vergil and Emma Jackson of Willisville; one sister-in-law, Virginia Jackson of Bearden; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Saturday, October 25, at Willisville Methodist Church with Bro. Sanford Hankins, Bro. Jerry Evans and Bro. Gordon Rodgers officiating. Burial was in Wilisville cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home of Magnolia.
Pallbearers were Brady West, Jerry Homishak, Greg Leuchner, Tim Jackson, Albert Marlar, Gaylon Waters, Herbert Fore and Wayne Gibson.

Ollie Otwell Mangold
Ollie Otwell Mangold, 90, of Bluff City died Tuesday, October 21, 1997, in the Woodward Nursing Center in Oklahoma.
Mrs. Mangold was born June 5, 1907, in Bluff City. A member of First Nazarene Church in Prescott, she was a retired dietician for Hillcrest Care Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin Mangold, who died in 1987.
Survivors include three daughters, Margaret Lowe of Enid, Okla., Virginia Meador of El Dorado and Sue Nelson of North Little Rock; two sisters, Vivian Sarrett of Cabot and Maxine Cromwell of Prescott; ten grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
Funeral services were Saturday, October 25, at First Nazarene Church with Rev. Jack B. Lowe, Rev. Michiel Yarbarro and Rev. Jack W. Lowe officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer cemetery under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott.

Mrs. Alkalene Latin
Mrs. Alkalene Latin's funeral was held December 18, at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home Chapel in Prescott with Rev. Shirley A Benix pastor and Rev. T.W. Adair presiding elder officiating.

Mrs. Urren Simpson Merritt
Mrs. Urren Simpson Merritt's funeral was held at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Camden with Rev. L.A. Broldnox pastor. Williams Funeral Service was in charge. Sister Vera Purifoy and myself went to both funerals. They both were buried at New Salem cemetery. We are losing a lot of our home comers.

Jarva Mae Young
Jarva Mae Young, of San Francisco, Calif., formerly of Rosston, died October 24, 1996, in San Francisco.
Born in Rosston, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roland and Polly E. Ellis, a graduate of Nevada County Training School in Rosston, a 1943 graduate of AM&N; College, now University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. She was a member of Bethel AME Church in San Francisco. She was a teacher in Eldorado Elementary School in San Francisco Unified School District, retiring after 30 years.
She held memberships in a number of education, civic and social organizations, including California Retired Teachers Association; the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa-Beta Nu Chapter; and Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include one sister, Eleanor E. Ellis; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and other relatives.
Services were held October 30 at The Bryant Mortuary in San Francisco with Rev. J. Edgar Boyd officiating. Burial was in Olivet Memorial Park in Coma, Calif.

Loy Van Sherman
Loy Van Sherman, 68, of Rosston died Tuesday, January 21, 1997, in Columbia Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
Born December 11, 1928, in Rosston, he was a self-employed farmer, and a member of Harrison Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Waterloo.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Lee Dansby Sherman of Rosston; one son, Larry Sherman of Appleton, Wisc.; three daughters, Velma Ann Sherman of San Antonio, Texas, Sharron Denise Sherman of Yuma, Ariz., and Penny Ann Sherman of Rosston; one sister, Savanah Sherman; and two grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, January 27, at Harrison Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Box officiating. Burial was in Harrison cemetery in Waterloo under the direction of Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.

Wynona V. Dillard
Wynona V. `Vee' Dillard, 58, of Rosston died Saturday, January 25, 1997, in a nursing home in Camden.
Born January 19, 1939, in San Saba, Texas, she was the daughter of Victor and Ruth Cook Kincaid. Mrs. Dillard was a housewife and mother and a member of First Baptist Church of Rosston.
Survivors include her husband, B.C. Dillard of Rosston; two sons, Rickey Dillard and Timothy Dillard, both of Rosston; her mother, Ruth Kincaid of Rosston; one brother, Tommy Lee Kincaid of Pasadena, Texas; one sister, Betty Vanderslice of Welty, Okla.; four grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Services were held Monday, January 27, at First Baptist Church in Rosston with the Revs. Charles Lloyd and Kenneth Ward Jr. officiating. Burial was in Bluff Springs cemetery in Nevada County under the direction of Brazzel-Cornish FuneraL Home of Prescott.

J. Ed Smith
J. Ed Smith, 88, of Hot Springs died Friday, January 24, 1997, at National Park Medical Center in Hot Springs.
Born January 23, 1909, in Wickes, he was the son of Alex and Daisey Chapman Smith. Mr. Smith was an educator and served as superintendent of Prescott and Okolona school districts for over 40 years. He was a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church of Hot Springs, formerly a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Prescott. He was past district governor of Rotary and a Paul Harris Fellow when he was a member of Prescott Rotary Club.
Survivors include his wife, Pet Joplin Smith of Hot Springs; one daugther, Claudette Smith Ford of Hot Springs; two brothers, Ernest Smith of Houston, Texas, and Earl Smith of Santa Rosa, Calif.; one sister, Annie Spikes of Ft. Worth, Texas; two grandsons; and three great grandsons.
Services were held Monday, January 27, at the Murry-Ruggles Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Jimmie Lancaster officiating. Entombment was in the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Hot Springs. Memorials may be made to Westminister Presbyterian Church of Hot Springs or the First United Methodist Church of Prescott.

Lula Buchanan Justiss
Lula Buchanan Justiss, 94, of Prescott died Friday, January 24, 1997, at Butterfield Trail Village in Fayetteville.
Born in Okolona on July 10, 1902, she was the widow of Marcus Davies Justiss, a member of First United Methodist Church of Prescott and a member of Arkansas Forestry Association.
Survivors include one son, William Buchanan Justiss, of Fayetteville; three grandchildren; and one great grandson.
Services were held Monday, January 27, at First United Methodist Church. Burial was in DeAnn cemetery under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott. Memorials may be made to University of Arkansas Medical School student scholarship fund in Little Rock.

Esta Marie Ricketts
Esta Marie Ricketts, 88, of Gurdon died Friday, January 24, 1997.
She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Chruch of Gurdon.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Carolyn Ricketts of Gurdon; two daughters and sons-in law, Freda and Kerry New of Little Rock and Linda Marie and Glenn Whitmarsh of Prescott; a sister, Freda Thomas of Gurdon; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday, January 25, at First United Methodist Church of Gurdon. Burial was in Center Ridge cemetery under the direction of Horne Funeral Home of Gurdon. Memorials may be made to the Center Ridge cemetery.

John Tillman Burrow
John Tillman Burrow, 79, of Dallas, Texas, formerly of Prescott, died Tuesday, January 21, 1997, in Autumn Leaves Nursing Home in Dallas.
Born July 16, 1917, in Prescott, he was a retired security guard, a Methodist, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and the widower of Frieda Watkins. He was preceded in death by two sons and two sisters.
Survivors include one son, Randy Burrow of Dallas; and seven grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were held Thursday, January 23, at DeAnn cemetery in Prescott with Rev. Jerry Westmoreland officiating and under the direction of Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.

Ken Burrow
Ken Burrow, 57, of Garland, Texas, formerly of Prescott, died December 16, 1996, at his home.
Born in Prescott on September 14, 1939, he was a 1957 graduate of Prescott High School, a former member of the Prescott National Guard, a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves, a bank teller for NationsBank in Garland, a member of Buckingham United Methodist Church in Garland, a member of Elks Lodge 71 in Dallas, Texas, and a member of the Lone Star Solos Square Dance Club. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lynda Burrow, his mother and one brother.
Survivors include his wife, Marlene Burrow of Garland; his father, John Burrow of Dallas; two sons, David Larry Burrow of Garland and Paul Scott Burrow of Little Rock; three stepchildren, Carol Matesic of Plano, Texas, Cynthia Havrilak of Washington, Penn., and William McCay of Abilene, Texas; one brother, Randall Burrow of Dallas, Texas; and seven grandchildren.
Services were held December 18 at Buckingham United Methodist Church in Garland with Revs. Larry Tinsley and John Rosenburg officiating. Burial was in Garland Memorial Park.

Susie Landers Rodden
Susie Landers Rodden, 96, of Blevins died Wednesday, January 22, 1997, in Pinehope Nursing Home in Hope.
Born July 18, 1900, in Emmet, she was the daughter of Amie and JoAnna Ayers Landers. She was a homemaker, a Baptist and the widow of J.W. Rodden.
Survivors include two daughters, Hettie Saffold of Benton and Adell Campbell of Prescott; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
Services were held Thursday, January 23, at Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home chapel in Prescott with Revs. Harold Presley and Milton Cowling officiating. Burial was in Macedonia cemetery near Blevins under the direction of Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
