Pascal Simpson
Pascal Simpson, 86, of Willisville died Wednesday, January 22, 1997, at Magnolia City Hospital.
Born October 14, 1910, in Nevada County, he was a member of Willisville Methodist Crhuch and an U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Beulah Simpson of Willisville; two daughters, Sherry Montgomery of Willisville and Patsy Ruth Pyka of Dallas, Texas; three sons, Venoy Simpson of Magnolia, Glen Dale Simpson of Capitan, N.M., and Royce Dean Simpson of Tyler, Texas; two brothers, Fred Arnold Simpson of Sacramento, Calif., and Troy D. Simpson of Duncanville, Texas; one sister, Elverne Buster of Duncanville, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
Services were held Friday, January 24, at Willsville Methodist Church. Burial was in Willisville cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Stamps.
Dorsey Ray Askew
Dorsey Ray Askew, 58, of Hope died Monday, May 5, 1997, at John McClellan Veterans Hospital in Little Rock.
Born October 8, 1938, in McNab, he was the son of Ed and Selma Bailey Askew. Mr. Askew was a retired self-employed businessman, an army veteran and a member of Union Baptist Church in Bodcaw.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Bernice Askew of Hope; four sons, Dorsey Ray Askew Jr. and Chad Eugene Askew, both of Hope, and Arthur Evans and Guy Cochran, both of Van Buren; six daughters, Rhonda Hall, Sheila Bruce Tina Smith and Chae Nicole Askew, all of Hope, Lisa Tucker of Texarkana, and Kitty Beard of Springdale; one sister, Dorris Worthy of Hope; and 15 grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, May 7, at Brazzel-Oakcrest Chapel Funeral Home with Revs. Kenneth Bobo and David Cook officiating. Burial was in Union cemetery in Bodcaw under the direction of Brazzel-Oakcrest Chapel Funeral Home of Hope.
Myrtle Hastings
Mrs. Myrtle Hastings, 94, of Prescott, died Friday, March 18, 2005, at Hillcrest Care and Rehab in Prescott.
She was born on January 10, 1911, to Henry and Dallas Steeley in Scottsboro, Ala., and moved to Nevada County in 1933.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church of Prescott.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lewis Hastings; two son, Loyd William Hastings and Floyd Henry Hastings; one daughter, Christine Sutton; two sisters, Lydia Mount and Effie Westmoreland; and by two grandsons, Richard Lynn Hastings and Todd Douglas Lewis.
Her survivors include: two sons, Jim B. Hastings of Little Rock and James Ray Hastings of Bauxite; three daughters, Edith Hunter of Prescott, Shirley Nicholson of Little Rock and Alvline Lewis of Russelville; 20 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2005, at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home Chapel in Prescott, with Rev. Jimmy Bobo officiating. Burial followed in New Salem cemetery in Laneburg.

Leatha Alta Bailey
Leatha Alta Bailey, 88, of Rosston died Wednesday, May 7, 1997, at Columbia Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
Born February 6, 1909, in Rosston, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Askew was the widow of Paul L. Bailey. She was a member of Rosston Baptist Church and the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by one son, Roger Lee Bailey.
Survivors include one son, Paul Bailey Jr., of Willisville; one daughter, Loretta Chisholm of Crossett; one sister, Noma Walters of Dallas, Texas; six grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were held Saturday, May 10, at Rosston cemetery in Rosston under the direction of Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
Nannie McDonald
Nannie Marie McDonald, 84, of Mena, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2005, in Mena.
She was born April 21, 1920, in Blevins, to the late John Gabriel Nivens and the late Carrie Mae Lloyd Nivens. She was united in marriage to the late Dale L. McDonald was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
She is survived by two sons, Jimmy Gaylow McDonald and Ronny Dale McDonald; one daughter, Nanette McDonald Willis; five brothers, Add Nivens, Roy Nivens, Ruff Nivens, Guy Nivens, and Luke Nivens; two sisters, Lucille Smith and Ailene Pickens; four grandchildren, Cindy Dawn McDonald, Jennifer Hanley, Brent McDonald, and Arren Melton; and great-grandchildren Ian Morris and Zach Morris.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 17, 2005, at 10 a.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church in Mena. Interment was at Nubbin Hill cemetery in Prescott, under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Roy Bradley, Kenneth Cossy, Bob Sharp, Howard Barr and Zachary Morris.
Cecil Campbell
Cecil Campbell, 55, of Lewisville, died Thursday, May 8, 1997, in the VA Hospital in Shreveport, La.
Born January 8, 1942, in Lewisville, he was an army veteran of the Cuban Missile Crisis, a truck driver and a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Ridling Campbell of Lewisville; two daughters, Debra Miller of Italy and Kristi O'Dell of Lewisville; two sons, Kelly Campbell of Lewisville and Jimmy Hicks of Camden; his mother, Vadie Graley of Lewisville; one brother, Elmer Campbell of Lewisville; and five grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, May 12, at Piney Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Victor Gore and Rev. Arlis East officiating. Burial was in Sewell cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Lewisville.
Norma Stone Tomlin
Norma Estelle Stone Tomlin, 84, of Camden, formerly of Rosston, died Sunday, May 4, 1997, at Ouachita County Medical Center.
She was the widow of Isaac S. Tomlin and she was a Baptist.
Survivors include two sons, Billy Mac Tomlin of Alton, Ill, and Richard Tomlin of Elliott; two daughters, Betty Hunter of Phoenix, Ariz., and Joyce Jones of Elliott; one sister, Mildred Morrisett of Rector; 11 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, May 7, at Proctor Funeral Home chapel in Camden. Burial was in Mount Moriah cemetery near Laneburg under the direction of Proctor Funeral Home of Camden.
Catherine Westerfield
Catherine Hesterly Westerfield passed away on March 24, 2005, in San Diego, Calif.
She was born in Prescott November 23, 1921, to John and Thorne Hesterly. She graduated from Prescott High School in 1939 and was Valedictorian of her class. She attended Henderson State University Teachers College in Arkadelphia where she met her future husband, Bill Hesterfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Ackerman of North Little Rock and one son, Paul.
Catherine is survived by a daughter, Susan Baker of Mystic, Conn., two sons, Mark and Mike of San Diego, Calif., one brother, John Hesterly and Babs of Aberdeen, Md. and one sister, Louise and Harvey Walls of Ft. Worth, Tex.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 30, 2005, in San Diego. Burial was in Rose Crantz Military cemetery in San Diego.
Garland F. Garrett
Garalnd F. Garrett, M.D., of Culver City, Calif., formerly of Rosston, died Friday, March 28, 1997.
Dr. Garland came from a family who has lived in Nevada County for 106 years. He practiced medicine for 50 years in Los Angeles, Culver City and the U.S. Navy in World War II. He was a life member of the Lions Club, serving as president of the Culver City Lions 1958-1959, a city councilman 1960-64 and chief of staff at Brotman Hospital, a LCDR US Navy Medical Corps; Okinawa World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Turguard Garrett; five daughters; one son; nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Harold Westmoreland
Harold Westmoreland, 93, of Prescott died Monday, October 6, 1997, in Prescott.
Mr. Westmoreland was self-employed at Acme Auto Headlining. He was a member of First Nazarene Church.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Westmoreland of Prescott; two daughters, Erma Jean Butler of Hot Springs and Doris Ruth Fitch of Santa Ana, Calif.; three brothers, Sherill Westmoreland of Houston, Texas, George Westmoreland of Seal Beach, Calif., and Gayle Westmoreland of Houston, Texas; four sisters, Keron Howard of Houston, Penny Howard of Kerrville, Texas, Mary Robinson of Kerrville and Anne Laurie Peoples of Metaire, La.; eight grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and numerous neices and nephews.
Funeral services were Thursday, October 9, at First Nazarene Church with Rev. Gerald Palmer, Rev. Jerry Westmoreland and Rev. Philip Hull officiating. Burial was in Westmoreland cemetery under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott.
Minnie Ingram
Minnie Ingram, 87, of Prescott, died Saturday in the Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
She was born March 29, 1918, in Bluff City, the daughter of the late Jim and Mattie Purifoy. She was a homemaker and member of St. John Baptist Church at Bluff City.
Survivors include one son, Ellis Blake of Gurdon; one sister, Gladys Ingram of Bluff City; and a number of nephews and nieces.
Funeral services were Friday at 1p.m. at the St. John Baptist Church at Bluff City with Rev. Wallace Ingram officiating. Burial was in St. John cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.
William R. Stovall
William R. Stovall, 62, of Prescott died Tuesday, October 7, 1997, at his home.
Mr. Stovall was born May 5, 1935, in Nevada County. He was a retired police chief with the Prescott Police Department, having served 30 years. He was a member of Midway United Methodist Church of Prescott.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Stovall of Prescott; two sons and their wives, David and Mary Ann Stovall of Prescott and Allen and Krista Stovall of Hope; one brother, Rufus Stovall of Prescott; one sister, Betty Thaxton of Prescott; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were Thursday, October 9, at Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home Chapel in Prescott with Rev. Neil Ridling and Rev. Jerry Westmoreland officiating. Burial was in Deann cemetery in Prescott. Arrangements were under the direction of Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
