John Henry Burdue
John Henry Burdue, 59, of Prescott died Friday, August 8, 1997, at his home.
He was born September 10, 1937, in Lewisville to Jean B. and Esther Cheatam Burdue. He was a carpenter and a member of Boughton Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Burdue of Prescott; two sons, John Wayne Burdue of Prescott and Tommy Joe Burdue of Pine Bluff; one stepson, Paul Dexter Roy of Lewisville; two daughters, Brenda Sue Wilbanks of Prescott and Cynthia Ann Allmon of Murfreesboro; five sisters, Mary Helen Broom and Gladys Marie Burdue of Magnolia, Sadie Hawkins of DeKalb, Texas, Geneva Rice of Rodessa, La., and Lovie Burdue of Texarkana, Texas; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Sunday, August 10, at Brazzel-Cornish Chapel with Rev. Michael Mauldin officiating. Burial was in Missionary Grove cemetery near Prescott. Arrangements were under the direction of Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home.
Russell James Landry
Russell James `Poppie' Landry, 56, of Rosston died Thursday, August 7, 1997, in University Hospital in Little Rock.
He was born July 20, 1941, at Sunset, La. He was a member of Baseline Christian Church in Little Rock and retired owner of the Southwest Home Improvement Company at Texarkana and a retired farmer.
Suvivors include his wife, Betty Lou Landry of Rosston; one brother, Charles Owen Henderson of Lafayette, La.; five sisters, Anna Smith of Opelousas, La., Bea Cloward of Utah; Melba Smith of Kinder, La.; and Patsy Richard and Gertrude Hyde of Sunset, La.; one son and daughter-in-law, Russell James Landry II and Tracy Landry; two grandchildren, LeAnn and Andrew `Spook' Landry; and number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Sunday, August 10, at Corinth Baptist Church at Bodcaw with the Revs. Billy Russell and Bill Johnston officiating. Burial was in Union cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Stamps.
Juanita Ward Taylor
Juanita Ward Taylor, 74, of Prescott died Thursday, August 7, 1997, in Texarkana at the St. Michael Health Care Center.
She was born in Prescott October 27, 1922.
Mrs. Taylor was a homemaker and a teacher. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and a member of Alma Eagle Sunday School Class. Mrs. Taylor was a 50-year member of the order of the Eastern Star, a member of Benjamin Culp Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Upsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, Nevada County Retired Teachers Association, Nevada County Depot Museum, and DeAnn cemetery Association. She was past president of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Survivors include a son, William Ward Taylor of Prescott; three daughters, Wanda Taylor Purtle of Minden, La., Bobbie Taylor Fuller of Prescott and Nancy Taylor Cherry of Texarkana, Ark.; a brother, William Curtis Ward of Texarkana, Texas; six grandchildren, Wendy Purtle, Scott Fuller, Rhonda Beavers, Heather Purtle, and Megan Taylor and Madeline Taylor; two great granchildren, Josie Beavers, Bethanie Fuller; two great aunts; three sons-in-law, Homer Purtle of Minden, La., Richard Fuller of Prescott and Doug Cherry of Texarkana; a daughter-in-law, Karen Taylor of Prescott; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were Sunday, August 10, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Lenderman officiating. Burial was in DeAnn cemetery under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott.
Elta L. Morrell
Elta Lee Morrell, of White Oak Lake near Chidester, died Wednesday, September 10, 1997.
Mrs Morrell was born January 1, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Carrie Easterling Shipp. She was a member of Chidester Baptist Church and Nailbenders organization. She loved painting and quilting.
Survivors include her husband, William H. Morrell; three sons, Joe Harris of White Oak, Robert Morrell of Sonoma, Calif., and Williams Morrell III of Boyes Hot Springs, Calif.; a daughter, Linda Alexander of Alturas, Calif.; a sister, Elverne Strinkle of Stamps; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Private services were held in Union cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Proctor Funeral Home. In lieu of floweres, donations may be made to the Chidester Baptist Church building fund.
Jacy E. `Ed' Hasley
Jacy E. `Ed' Hasley, 79, of Prescott died Tuesday, September 16, 1997, at the veterans hospital in Little Rock.
Mr. Hasley was born February 23, 1918, in Knoxville to Jacy E. and Diccie (Tucker) Hasley. Mr. Hasley was a building contractor and a veteran of World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, and American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby (Woodard) Hasley of Prescott; four sons, Doug Hasley of Texarkana, Texas, Jacy Levinsky of Little Rock, Woody and Joy Hasley of Springdale and Tom Hasley of Stilwell, Okla.; one brother, Grady Hasley of Hope; one sister, Anne Gordon of Prescott; four grandchildren, Amy Pope, Andy Levinsky, Brandon Garcia and Carmen Garcia; one great grandchild, Ian Pope; and a number nieces and nephews.
Services were held Thursday, September 18, at First Baptist Church in Prescott with Rev. Bill Carpenter officiating. Burial was in DeAnn cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Prescott.
Foy C. Tate
Foy C. Tate, 92, of Magnolia died Thursday, September 18, 1997, at his home.
Mr. Tate was born on March 4, 1905, in Bowen to Henry Franklin and Mittie (Springer) Tate. A school teacher for 37 years, he was retired from Magnolia School District. He was a member of Asbury Methodist Church and Retired Teachers Association. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Vera Tate, and a brother, Guy Tate.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Robert O'Dell of Magnolia; a brother, Cecil Tate of Malvern; three sisters, Clydalee Brook of Delight, Marie Tye of Texarkana and Jean Luce of Tyler, Texas; two grandsons, Gary O'Dell and Mike O'Dell; one grandaughter, Dorinda Watson of Hot Springs; three great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were Sunday, September 21, at Asbury Methodist Church with Rev. Don Nicholson officating. Burial was in Marlbrook cemetery between Prescott and Blevins.
Pallbearers were Paul Tye, Wayne Tye, Charlie Tye, Bobby Frizzell, Bob Machman, Curtis Pharr and William Tye.
Louise Bright Harrell
Louise Bright Harrell, 82, of Prescott died Saturday, September 20, 1997.
Mrs. Harrell was born December 25, 1914, in Sutton to Brad Hamilton and Allene Phillips Bright. She was a housewife and mother. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Prescott. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. L. Jack Harrell.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Amelia and Lewis Fraser of Miami, Fla.; two sisters, Ruth Fincher of Prescott, Jo Ann May and her husband Gaylon of Hope; one brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Joyce Bright of Prescott; seven grandchildren Amelia Louise Fraser of West Lake, Calif., Lewis Frasher of Pembroke Pines, Fla., Jack Fraser of Miami, Fla., Angel Logan of Miami, and King, Dominick and Starbuck Fraser of Miami; nine great grandchildren Georgia and Gabriel Kleschick of California, Amanda, Lewis III and Nicholas Fraser of Pembroke Pines, Fla., Crista'l and Raini Fraser of Miami, and Brooke and Balli Logan of Miami; cousins, Geneva and John Marsh of Prescott; her dearest friend, Clara Johnson; her Aunt Estelle Yancey of Texarkana; nephews, Scott and Blake Bright, Jim, Wayne and Dr. Bob Fincher and Carol Lambert; nieces, Patty Fincher Webb, Shirley Lambert, Judy Sissons and Lisa Davis; and great nieces, Katie and Kortney Bright, and Cory nad Courtney Davis.
Funeral services were Monday, September 22, at First Presbyterian Church in Prescott with Rev. Jerry Westmoreland officiating. Burial was in DeAnn cemetery under the direction of Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
Thelma Brown
Mrs. Thelma B. Dillard Brown, 80, of Prescott, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, in Hillcrest Care and Rehab in Prescott.
She was born September 21, 1924, in Nevada County to Floyd and Pinkie Hicks Shipp. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Prescott Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Eldon Dillard, and her second husband, Luther.
Her survivors include: one son, Derris Dillard of Texarkana, Ark.; one daughter, Carolyn Wood of Tyler, Texas; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were 3 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2005, at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home Chapel in Prescott, with Rev. Jerry Westmoreland officiating. Burial followed in DeAnn cemetery in Prescott. Arrangements by Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott.
Family received friends Thursday, July 21, 2005, from 6-8 p.m. at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott.
Thelma Carruthers
Thelma Carruthers, 85, of Nashville died Saturday, September 20, 1997.
Mrs. Carruthers was born April 19, 1912, in Prescott to the late Felix and Pearl Biggers Grimes. She was a Methodist and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim K. Carruthers, who died in 1940.
Survivors include one daughter, Nell Orsburn of Nashville; five grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, September 23, at Midway cemetery near Prescott with Bro. Jerry Westmoreland officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Nashville Funeral Home.
Cowan D. Brown
Cowen D. Brown, 87, of Hope died Saturday, September 20, 1997, at Columbia Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
He was born November 28, 1909, in Antlers, Okla.
Mr. Brown was a retired welder with Frisco Railroad, working for the railroad nearly 45 years. He was a member of the Hope Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Mozelle Cannon Brown of Hope; one son, David Brown of Prescott; one daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Cobb of St. Louis, Mo.; one brother, Robert Brown of Hugo, Okla.; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and one great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Tuesday, September 23, at Hope Church of Christ with John Cannon and Johnny Cannon officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens in Hope. Arrangements were under the direction of Brazzel-Oakcrest Chapel Funeral Home of Hope.
Ollie Smith
Ollie Smith, 88, died Friday, September 5, 1997, at Columbia Medical Center in Lancaster, Texas.
Mrs. was born to the late William and Ollie Haynie on October 10, 1909. Rufus Smith, her husband, preceded her in death in 1985. Six brothers and three sisters also preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sisters, Ray Peters, Lonia Couch and Luellen Parker all of Little Rock; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were Saturday, September 13, at Harrison Chapel Baptist Church in Rosston with Rev. Bobby Cox officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hicks Funeral Home of Hope.
Walsie Haislip Tidwell
Walsie Haislip Tidwell, 88, died Thursday, September 11, 1997, at Pike County Memorial Hospital in Murfreesboro.
She was born on September 9, 1909 in Murfreesboro to the late Blake and Lula Haislip. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Tidwell.
Survivors include two sisters, Eliza Scoggins of Denver, Colo., and Roxie Johnson of Murfreesboro; one brother, Lake Haislip of Murfreesboro; one stepson, Esell Tidwell of Nashville; three brothers-in-law, Ivory J. Tidwell and Artie Velt Tidwell of Rosston and Bracy Tidwell of Hot Springs; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were Saturday, September 20, at Owen Chapel Baptist Church in Murfreesboro with Rev. Kelvin Lambert officiating. Interment was in Murfreesboro cemetery with arrangements under Hicks Funeral Home of Hope.
