John Robert Stewart
John Robert Stewart, 69, of Prescott died Tuesday, January 13, 1998, in Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana, Texas.
Mr. Stewart was born May 1, 1928, in Prescott. He was the son of the late Robert I. and Bertie Cooley Stewart. He was a retired tour agent of 33 years for the Continental Trailways Bus Line of Memphis, Tenn., a 1946 graduate of Prescott High School, and he attended Henderson State Teachers College. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Prescott and was a member of the Alma Eagle Sunday School Class. After retirement, he returned to Prescott and was a volunteer for the Depot Museum for three years.
He is survived by two sons of Tennessee; and two sisters, Dorothy Daniel of North Little Rock and Loyce McGill of Prescott.
Graveside services were Friday, January 16, at DeAnn cemetery with Rev. Jerry Westmoreland and Rev. Jim Lenderman officating. Arrangements were under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott.

Herman Lee Purifoy
Herman Lee Purifoy, 49, of Prescott, died Thursday, January 8, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Purifoy was born June 14, 1948, in Prescott to the late Ermond and Myrtle Gulley Purifoy. He was a member of St. John Baptist Church in Bluff City.
Survivors include his wife, Welch Purifoy; two children, Brenda Purifoy of Prescott and Billy Purifoy of Magnolia; one brother, Earl Purifoy of Bluff City; and two sisters, Birdella Johnson and Murdella Purifoy both of Prescott.
Funeral services were Saturday, January 17, at St. John Baptist Church in Bluff City with Rev. Wallace Ingram officiating. Interment was in St. John cemetery in Bluff City by Williams Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.

Faye Harris
Faye Harris, 67, of Prescott, died Wednesday, January 14, 1998, in St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana.
Mrs. Harris was born March 31, 1930, in Maude, Texas, to Joseph C. and Bessie Nichols Richey. She was a retired State Revenue Agent of 25 years in Nevada County. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Prescott and the Eastern Star and Arkansas State Employees Association. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Harris.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Harris of Prescott; one son, Michael 'Mike' Richie Harris of Fort Worth, Texas; three sisters, Lila Lee of Dallas, Texas, Lottie Beasley of Red Water, Texas and Maxine Freeman of Prescott; two grandchildren, Haley Baker Harris Carter of Arkadelphia and Michael Heath Harris of Fort Worth, Texas; and a special friend, Julianna Stockton.
Funeral services were Saturday, January 17, at the Church of Christ in Prescott with Gene Cloer and Harley Sisson officiating. Burial was in DeAnn cemetery in Prescott. Arrangements were under the direction of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.

Willis B. Ray
Willis B. Ray, 92, of Hope died Friday, January 16, 1998.
Survivors include one brother, Dalton Ray of Winona, Texas, and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside services were held Saturday, January 17, at Snell cemetery with Rev. Neal Ridling officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Herndon Funeral Home of Hope.

Dorothy Ward
Dorothy Bradford Ward, 85, of Prescott, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2005.
She was born March 1, 1920, to William Bradford and Sarah Allison Bradford in Murfreesboro.
Dorothy was a retired Medical Records Clerk for the Nevada County Hospital. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Rainbow Garden Club and United Methodist Women.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Watson Ward, her parents, and her brother, Ordis Bardofrd.
She is survived by a step-son, Dale Ward and wife Ruth E. of Prescott; a step-daughter, Bobbie Sue Minor and husband Jim of Prescott; one sister, Winnie Harrell of Hampton; two nephews; one niece and three step-grandsons.
Funeral services were Saturday, August 13, 2005, at 10 a.m. at the Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. David Kassos officiating. Burial was at DeAnn cemetery under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott.
Visitation was Friday, August 12, from 6-8 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Home.

Marvel Crayton
Sunset came for Marvel Crayton, 63, of Prescott when she passed from this life on Sunday, July 31, 2005.
Sunrise came for her on June 11, 1942. She was born to Sam Madison and Dorothy Mae Dockery Madison in Stamps.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence 'Sonny' Crayton; sons, Darryl Madison of Prescott, Patrick Johnson and Tifferd Johnson both of Dallas, Texas; daughters, Brenda Johnson of Balch Springs, Texas, Wanda Ross and Valerie Johnson both of Dallas; one sister, Leatrice Lemons of Dallas; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2005, at Sweet Home Baptist Church in Prescott. Burial was at Sweet Home cemetery under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Friday, August 5, 2005, from 6-8 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Home.

Vadis Marie Schipper
Vadis Marie Schipper, 85, of Prescott, died Thursday, January 15, 1998, at Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana, Texas.
Mrs. Schipper was born August 17, 1912, in Sand Gap, Ky., to George and Hannah Bailey Wilson. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Survivors include one brother, Otis Dan Wilson of Green Valley, Ariz.; one sister, Zola Laybourne of Windsor, Vt.; one grandson, Fred Harris of Prescott; one granddaughter, Tina Barlow of Benton; four great grandchildren, Phillip and Lauren Harris of Prescott and Matthew and Christopher Barlow of Benton.
Funeral services were Sunday, January 18, at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home Chapel in Prescott with Gene Cloer officiating. Burial was in Snell cemetery in Emmet under the direction of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.

Arlene Almand
Arlene Almand, 81, of Prescott, died Thursday, January 15, 1998, at her home.
Mrs. Almand was born October 17, 1916, in Nevada County to Jerry S. and Alta Evans Thompson. She was a housewife and a member of Laneburg Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Juanita Lewis.
Survivors include two sons, Ed Almand of Chino, Calif., and James Almand of Prescott; two daughters, Sue Phillips of Bodcaw and Kathy Glass of Center Ridge; four brothers, Tillmon Thompson of Laneburg, J.Y. Thompson of Stephens, Vernon Thompson of Laneburg and Donald Thompson of Flint, Mich.; two sisters, Geneva Cottingham of Prescott and Mary Helen Hollis of Waldo; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Sunday, January 18, at Laneburg Baptist Church with Rev. David Hampton and Rev. Eric Barbaree officiating. Burial was in Laneburg cemetery under the direction of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.

Irvin Lusby
Irvin Lusby, 78, of Prescott died Friday, January 16, 1998, in Columbia Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
Mr. Lusby was born October 5, 1919, in Prescott. He was a retired carpenter. He was a member of First Christian Church and a Mason.
Survivor include his wife, Catherine Stewart Lusby of Prescott; two sons, Keith Lusby of Springdale and Joey Lusby of Omaha, Neb.; one sister, Elizabeth Heubren of Kansas City, Kan.; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were Sunday, January 18, at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Westmoreland officiating. Burial was in DeAnn cemetery under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott.

Paul Choate
The honorable and Rev. Paul B. Choate, 71, of Blevins, passed away Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, at Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
He was born May 28, 1934, in Lonoke, to Sterling Jackson and Lucy Cox Choate. He was the founding minister of the Word of Faith Church in Blevins.
He was the mayor of Blevins, a retired biologist from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, the former pastor of Marlbrook Baptist Church in Blevins for seven years, former Lake Maumelle Water District Manager, former Hempstead County Memorial Hospital Board member and instrumental in establishing Medical Park Hospital; former school teacher in Paris, Ark.’ first juvenile judge for Hempstead County.
He was preceded in death by his parents and foster parents, Roy and Louise Prewitt; also by four brothers, Cecil, Lawrence, Clarence and Ralph Choate, and by two sisters, Rosa Lee and Maxine Choate.
Paul’s passion for life was to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. He loved people and had a God-given desire to help those in need. He loved his community, church and family. His positive influence will never be forgotten.
Survivors include: his wife of 40 years, Pamela D. Young Choate of Blevins; four sons, David L. Banister and Juanita, of Blevins, Roy H. Banister and Janet of Blevins, Timothy Paul Choate and Janet of Blevins, and Andrew Ryan Choate of Little Rock; two brothers, William King of Chicago, Ill., and Lee King of Lonoke; one sister, Julia Ann King of Winslow; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Celebration of life and home-going service was 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, 2005, at Imon and Carol Brown Blevins High School Gymnasium, Blevins, with Martin Jones and the Rev. Joseph Rowe, the Rev. Randy Hughes and the Rev. Lee Little officiating. Burial followed in Marlbrook cemetery, Blevins, under the direction of Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home, Hope.
The family received visitors Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, from 2-5 p.m. at Brazzel/Oakcrest in Hope.

Courtney Nicole Goodwin
Courtney Nicole Goodwin, 3, of Emmet died March 18, 1998, in Hope.
Courtney was born June 3, 1994, in Camden.
Survivors include her father and mother, Jason and Cindy Goodwin of Emmet; a brother, Justin Goodwin of Emmet; a sister, Amanda Morris of Emmet; her grandmothers, Mary Jo Gregory of Bodcaw and Barbara Bobo of Springhill; grandparents, Gerald and Bobbie Turner of Kingsland; and great grandmothers, Sylvia Turner of Kingsland and Sandie Oliver of Fordyce.
Graveside services were Friday, March 20, at Union cemetery near Bodcaw with Bob Bowman and Lewis Langley officiating. Burial was under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott.

Brad Thomas Ward
Brad Thomas Ward, 69, of Little Rock died Tuesday, March 24, 1998.
Mr. Ward was the retired owner and manager of Gray Supply Company, Inc., in North Little Rock. He was a U.S. Army veteran and he attended Temple Baptist Church in Little Rock.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Nadine Ward, a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Mary Linda Ward of Little Rock; two grandchildren, Tamara and Dave Ward; a brother, Donald Ward of Prescott; three step-brothers, Joe, Bob and James White; and a step-sister, Rosemary Partney.
Funeral services were Thursday, March 26, at Temple Baptist Church with Rev. Martin Jameson officiating. Burial was in Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of Roller-Drummond Funeral Home of Little Rock. Memorials may be made to Temple Baptist Church, 10710 I-30, Little Rock, AR 72209.
