Thalia Shipp
Thalia Shipp, 79, of Prescott died Wednesday, May 20, 1998, at Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana, Texas.
Miss Shipp was born December 29, 1918, in Nevada County to Wylie and Allie Purtle Shipp. She was a homemaker and a member of Central Baptist Church of Prescott.
Survivors include three brothers, Robert Shipp of Prescott, D.P. Shipp of Memphis and Hollis Shipp of Hope; one sister, Grace Ramsey of Magnolia; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Friday, May 22, in Brazzel/Cornish Chapel of Prescott. Burial was in Bluff Springs cemetery under the direction of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
Belvia Ammons McGuire
Belvia Ammons McGuire, 87, of Rosston died Wednesday, June 10, 1998.
Mrs. McGuire was a member of Central Baptist Church in Prescott.
Survivors include one son, William McGuire of Prescott; four daughters, Ruth Reyenga and Nell Avery both of Prescott, Helen Glass of Magnolia and Carolyn Jones of Hope; one brother, Glen Ammons of Hope; one sister, Joye Adams of Prescott; 17 grandchildren; and 30 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday, June 13, at Central Baptist Church with Bro. Tom Mitchell and Bro. D.D. Fairchild officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge cemetery under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott.
Hautie Huskey
Mrs. Hautie L. Wardlaw Huskey, 92, of Blevins, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, in Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
She was born February 15, 1913, in Redland Community of McCaskill, to Robert and Linnie Chism Wardlaw. She was a retired Postmaster of Blevins Post Office. She was a member of Bruce Memorial United Methodist Church in Blevins. She went to work for U.S. Postal Service in the 1940's. Later she was appointed postmaster and then retired in 1978.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee H. Huskey, who died in 1971; by three brothers, Myron "Top", Udell and Guy Wardlaw; and by two sisters, Velda Bowles and Zula Sewell.
Her survivors include: one son, Gary Huskey and Bonnie of Blevins; one daughter, Carole Hash and Bobby of Blevins; one sister, Ann Smart of Odessa, Tex.; four grandsons, Johnny Hash, Lee Michael Huskey, and twins, David and Duane Huskey; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2005, at Bruce Memorial United Methodist Church in Blevins, with Rev. Jimmy Teeter and Rev. Paul Choate officiating. Burial was in Sweet Home cemetery in Hempstead County.

Keith Monroe Stewart
Keith Monroe Stewart, 53, of Prescott died Wednesday, June 10, 1998, at Wadley Hospital in Texarkana, Texas.
Mr. Stewart was born in Minneapolis, Minn., on August 14, 1944. He was a member of Arkansas Education Association and employed by Nevada School District.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Carter Stewart of Prescott; two brothers, Wade Stewart and Mark Stewart, both of Mena; two brothers-in-law, Buddy Carter and Butch Jones; four sisters-in-law, Janice Carter, Lucy Jones, Rebecca Stewart and Sue Stewart; six nieces and nephew; and his mother-in-law, Dorothy Carter.
Funeral services were Saturday, June 13, at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Gene Cloer officiating. Burial was in Bluff City cemetery under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott. Memorials may be made to the Nevada High School Library.
Cryus Robert Gray, Jr
Cyrus Robert 'C.R.' Gray Jr. of Newport died Thursday, June 1, 1998, at Newport Hospital.
Mr. Gray was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. A veteran of World War II, he was retired from construction business.
Survivors include his wife, Eileen Smith Gray; one son, John Robert Gray of California; three daughters, Sylvia 'Ginny' Hanner of Missouri, Linda Cayla of Oklahoma and Brenda Osborn of Jonesboro; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday, June 15, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with Father Jon Childress officiating. Burial was in Walnut Grove cemetery under the direction of Dillinger Funeral Home of Newport.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church or Jackson County Library in Newport.
Ann C. Haskins
Mrs. Ann C. Haskins, 88, of Prescott died Thursday, June 11, at Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
Mrs. Haskins was born August 13, 1910, in Prescott, to Sam and Eliza Skaggs Chambless. She was a retired manager at Pfeifer's Department Store in Little Rock. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, W.H. Haskins of Prescott and a number of nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services were Sunday, June 14, at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Carpenter officiating. Burial was in White Oak Grove cemetery in De-Ann under the direction of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
Marguerite Gavin
The mother of Betty Ragsdale, Marguerite Coats Gavin of Pansy (Cleveland County) passed away Monday afternoon in Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Frazer's Funeral Home in Warren.
James Gentry Starling
James Gentry Starling, 72, of Delight died Wednesday, July 8, 1998, in St. Joseph's Hospital in Hot Springs.
Mr. Starling was born on May 7, 1926, in Delight to Quincy B. and Beulah L. White Starling. He was a retired owner/operator of Starling Construction Company, a member of the Church of Christ at Antoine, and a Mason, being a member of Pisgah Lodge 250 F.& A.M. and also a 32nd degree Mason and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Louise Wilkerson Starling, who died in 1995, and by one son, James Michael Starling, in 1986.
Survivors include one daughter, Sheila Ann Gordon of Delight; one sister, Patsy Priscilla Wilson of Delight; four grandchildren, Che M. Gordon, Candi Gordon, Robyn M. Starling and Jamie L. Starling, all of Delight; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Friday, July 10, at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home Chapel in Prescott with Luther Lott, Harold Prestly and Randy Hughes officiating. Burial was in Antoine cemetery under the direction of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
Vance Dewayne Blackmon
Vance Dewayne Blackmon, 33, of Hope died Wednesday, July 8, 1998, at his home in Washington.
Mr. Blackmon was born on December 6, 1964, in Hope to Jerry and Linda Jean Allen Blackmon. He was a self-employed poultry farmer and truck driver and a member of Bodcaw #1 Baptist Church in Bodcaw.
Survivors include two daughters,
Shelby LeAnn Blackmon and Taylor Nicole Blackmon of Washington; his parents, Jerry and Linda Jean Allen Blackmon of Hope; one sister Traci Denise Blackmon Cochran of Washington; his maternal grandmother, Lola Allen of Hope; and his paternal grandparents, Christopher C. and Myrtis Fay Simmons.
Funeral services were Saturday, July 11, at Bodcaw #1 Baptist Church in Bodcaw with Rev. Milton Langston and Rev. Tom Stephens officiating. Burial was in Bodcaw cemetery in Bodcaw under the direction of Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home of Hope.
C.M. 'Pod' Rogers Jr.
C.M. 'Pod' Rogers Jr., 73, of Hope died Thursday, July 9, 1998, at Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
Mr. Rogers was born August 27, 1925, in Hope to C.M. 'Lum' Rogers and Laure Ames Rogers. He was a self-employed businessman and former Newspaper manager and later co-owner of the Hope Star. He was a member and Sunday school teacher of the First Baptist Church in Hope and served as a R.A. Director. He designed the banner for the Arkansas Travelers games and revived the Hope Watermelon Festival in 1977. For 33 years he took melons to the Miss Arkansas Pageant and has been referred to as 'Hope's Goodwill Ambassador', 'One-man Chamber of Commerce', and Pod Rogers World's Greatest Watermelon Promoter.' He and his wife, Annette, were married
for 52 years. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Myrtis Gleghorn, Hazel Duckett and Lois Mae Purtell and by one brother, Doyle Rogers.
Survivors include his wife, Annette Amonette Rogers of Hope; two sons, Doug Rogers of Magnolia and Brad Rogers of Dallas, Texas; and two grandchildren, Drew Rogers and Ryan Rogers of Magnolia.
Funeral services were Sunday, July 12, at First Baptist Church in Hope with Rev. Stan Parris and Rev. Earl Cumbie officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery in Hope under the direction of Brazzel-Oakcrest Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or Charitable Christian Medical Clinic, 315 South Main, Hope, AR 71801.
Sallie M. Grace
Sallie M. Grace, 74, of Camden died Monday, July 13, 1998.
Mrs. Grace was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Williams of El Dorado and Jerry Grace of Colt; one daughter, Jane Knight of Camden; two brothers Cloys McAteer and Novel McAteer both of Camden; seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for today, Wednesday, July 15, at Proctor Funeral Home in Camden with burial in Chapel Hill cemetery near Sparkman. Arrangements are under the direction of Proctor Funeral Home.
Margurite Effie Calhoun
Margurite Effie Reyenga Calhoun, 73, of Prescott died Tuesday, July 14, 1998.
Mrs. Calhoun was born January 8, 1925, in Emmet. She was one of nine children and the oldest daughter of the late Gerald and Mamie Messer Reyenga. She and her husband, Denzil Odell Calhoun, celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in March. Mrs. Calhoun was a member of First United Methodist Church in Prescott and her religion and her church were vital parts of her life. She was a licensed practical nurse and worked for many years with local physicians and at the Cora Donnell Hospital. She was a tireless caregiver, a fantastic cook and a generous, loving friend. But her greatest achievement was the wonderful loving home she and Denzil provided for their children and grandchildren. She was the center of the family issuing Effie-isms, hugs and special desserts as needed. She was always there serving up unconditional love and support.
Survivors include her husband, Denzil Odell Calhoun of Prescott; four children, Archie Larry Calhoun and wife, Lisa, of Amity, Sharlett Calhoun Craig and husband, Tom Grunden, of Little Rock, Margaret Calhoun Magee of Texarkana and Brenda Kaye Calhoun Prewitt and husband, Todd, of Prescott; eight grandchildren, Angela Michelle Calhoun, David Odell Calhoun and Sallie Elizabeth Bowman of Amity, Sarah Catherine Craig Crews and her husband, Coleman, of Little Rock, Julia Reid Grunden/Sawyer and her husband, Robert, of Beaufort, S.C., Catherine Ann Grunden of Washington, D.C., Nicholas Wayne Magee of Texarkana and Cody Lee Todd Prewitt of Prescott; five great grandchildren, Richard Brooks Bramlette, Courtney Gracelynn Crews and Chandler Chase Crews of Little Rock, Hunter Reid Grunden-Sawyer and Emma Catherine Sawyer of Beaufort, S.C.; four brothers, William Theo 'Billy' Reyenga and wife, Fay, of Hope; Gerald Reyenga and wife, Margie, of Brookeland, Texas, Sebron Wesley Reyenga and wife, Wanda, of LaGrange, Ind., and John Franklin 'Johnny' Reyenga and wife, Ruth, of Prescott; two sisters, Edith Grace Reyenga Chism and husband, Ed, of Hope and Ora Pearl 'Shorty' Reyenga Fry of Conejos, Colo.; three sisters-in-law, Elsie Reyenga of Emmet, Edna Reyenga of Pocahantas and Lou Calhoun of Little Rock together with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 16, at 2 p.m. at the First Methodist Church in Prescott with burial at Mt. Moriah cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott.
