Evie Hicks
Evie Hicks, 87, of Murfreesboro died Saturday, January 2, 1999, at a Murfreesboro hospital.
Mrs. Hicks was born August 11, 1911, in Oklahoma to Gerome and Evie Ward Covington. She was a housewife and a cafeteria worker at a nursing home. She was a Baptist and a Sunday school teacher for years. Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her husband, Alvie Hicks.
Survivors include two nephews, Clyde Covington of Prescott and Doyle Covington of Little Rock; three nieces, Joyce Campbell of Bryant, Sylvia Turner of Montgomery, Texas, and Faye Stovall Preston of Prescott.
Graveside services were Sunday, January 3, at Murfreesboro cemetery with Rev. Kenneth Turner officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
Ora Lee Purifoy
Ora Lee Purifoy, 69, of Bluff City died Thursday, December 31, 1998, at Ouachita Medical Center in Camden.
Mrs. Purifoy was born July 7, 1929.
Survivors include three sons, Finis Francis' Purifoy of Chidester, Donnie Clara' Purifoy of San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Bobby Joe Purifoy of Bluff City; two daughters, Lula Leroy' Howard of Rockford, Ill., and Janice Kenny' Williams of Bluff City; nine grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and friend; and a God son, Don L. Mixon.
Funeral services will be Thursday, January 7, at 2:00 p.m. at Union Grove Baptist Church in Bluff City under the direction of Smith Services of Stamps.
John R. Cross
John R. Cross of Ingleside, Texas, 75, died Sunday, January 3, 1999.
Mr. Cross was born on August 15, 1923, in Prescott to Randolph and Margaret Cross. He served in the U.S. Army during Word War II and he was a member of First United Methodist Church of Mt. Moriah. He was retired from Reynolds Metals Company. Mr. Cross was also a licensed funeral director and an embalmer and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rand and Margaret Cross, a son, Tommy Patrick Cross, a brother, Noel Cross, and his sisters, Nettie Cross, Denver Carter and Reba Stovall.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Cross of Ingleside; two sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny Richard and Joyce Cross of Forney, Texas, and Michael and Sylvia Cross of Ingleside; a stepson, Rusty Chambers of Oklahoma City; a stepdaughter, Suzanne Travis of Oklahoma City; a brother, Charlie Cross of Prescott; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Thursday, January 7, at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Aransas Pass, Texas. Burial was in Prairie View cemetery in Aransas Pass.
Ruthie Mae Jones
Ruthie Mae House Jones, 92, died Thursday, January 15, 1999, at Maumelle in her home.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by husbands, Herman T. White and James R. Jones; two sons, Joe H. White and Frank D. White; one grandson, Harvey White; one brother, George House; and one great grandson, Joey Hastings.
Survivors include three sons, Edgar H. White of Conway, Thomas E. White of Beirne and Harold D. White of Van Buren; two brothers, Leonard House of Prescott and James F. House of Powderly, Texas; one sister, Chloe Orren of Prescott; 17 grandchildren, Shirley Featheroff, Ruth Marie Conklin, Mary Etta Peterson, Nancy Turly, Tommy, George, Michael, Danny, Rickey and Joseph White, Sandy Jones, Joy and Janice Allison, Cheryl Hastings, Franki Davidson, Kathy Monteith and Carla Jester; 27 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday, January 18, in the Horne Chapel in Gurdon. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery in Gurdon under the direction of Horne Funeral Home of Gurdon.
MaCrae P. Scott
MaCrae P. Scott, 94, of Little Rock died Tuesday, January 19, 1999, in Little Rock.
Mrs. Scott was born December 7, 1904, in Omaha, Neb. She was a housewife, a member of the Rudd Streepy Fox Sunday school class and the U.M.W. of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hunter Dwight Scott.
Survivors include one nephew, Adam Guthrie of Prescott.
Graveside services were Wednesday, January 20, at DeAnn cemetery in Prescott with Rev. Jerry G. Westmoreland officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
Reatha Mae McKelvy
Reatha Mae McKelvy, 57, of Haworth, Okla., died Monday, January 11, 1999, in Haworth.
Mrs. McKelvy was born September 1, 1941, in the Redland community. She had lived most of her life in McCurtain County. She was a homemaker and was of the Presbyterian faith. She and Glenn McKelvy were married
August 30, 1969, in Clarksville, Texas.
Survivors include her husband, Glenn McKelvy of Haworth; three daughters, Susie Loretha McKelvy Garcia and Kristi Kay McKelvy, both of Haworth and Glenda Sue McKelvy Berry of Maude, Texas; a stepson, Ricky McKelvy of Warren; two stepdaughters, Terry Kisner and Debbie Dougan, both of Prescott; four grandchildren, Robert and James Berry of Maude, Texas, and Kristina and Antonia Garcia of Haworth and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were Thursday at Norwood-Leonard Funeral Home of Idabel, Okla., with the Rev. Jake Arterburn officiating. Burial was in the Redland cemetery.
Ruby Glass Ward
Ruby Glass Ward, 84, of Prescott died Tuesday, January 19, 1999, in Bryant.
Mrs. Ward was born September 9, 1914, in Caney to Neal and Ida Ledbetter White. She was a homemaker and a member of the Freeman Hights Baptist Church in Garland, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Class in 1954, two brothers, Woodrow 'Tip' White and Tom Watson White; three sisters, Hester Range, Lois Sampson and Mattie Faye White.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Neal Glass of Garland, Texas, and Ronald Lee Glass of Little Rock; one daughter Patsy Haneline of Benton; seven grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Friday, January 22, at Morris Baptist Church with Bro. Raymond Hicks officiating. Burial was in Caney cemetery under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott.
Lydia Grimes Glass
Lydia Grimes Glass, 100, of Shreveport, La., formerly of Caney, died Thursday, January 21, 1999, at Highland Hospital in Shreveport.
Mrs. Glass was born May 12, 1898, in Bluff City to John and Lucy Bustin Grimes. She was a retired school teacher and a member of Morris Baptist Church in Caney. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gill Glass, who died in 1987 and a grandson, Johnny Otwell.
Survivors include two daughters Wanda Glass Johnson and her husband, Howard, of Colleyville, Texas, and Faye Glass of Shreveport; one grandchild, Jim Otwell of Watauga, Texas; one grand daughter-in-law, Barbara Otwell of Little Rock; three great grandchildren, Shonda Johnson of Crystal River, Fla., Cindy Mayo of Atoka, Okla., and James Otwell of Watauga, Texas; one great great grandchild, Cody Mayo, of Atoka, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Saturday, January 23, at Morris Baptist Church in Caney with Rev. Raymond Hicks officiating. Burial was in Caney cemetery under the direction of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
Annie Mae Green
Annie Mae Green, 75, of Camden died Thursday, January 21, 1999.
Mrs. Green was born on June 26, 1923 in Willisville to Luther and Allie Wynn Ammons. She was a housewife and a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband, Harrel Green of Camden; two sons, Jimmy Harrel Green of Camden and Gary Don Green of Camden; two brothers, Archie Ammons of Cale and Ander Ammons of Prescott; and one granddaughter, Samantha Green of Camden.
Funeral services were Sunday, January 24, at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Raymond Hicks officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer cemetery under the direction of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
Gertrude Scott
Gertrude Scott, 86, of Hot Springs died Thursday, January 21, 1999, at a Hot Springs hospital.
Mrs. Scott was born February 11, 1912, in Hempstead County. She was a housewife and a nursing assistant and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence D. Scott, who died in 1991, and by one son, Theodore Scott, who also died in 1991.
Survivors include one daughter, Wanda Jean Scott of Hot Springs; one daughter-in-law, Callie Scott of Bryant; one brother, Guy Chism of Hope; one sister, Nannie Mae Stuart of Prescott; two grandchildren, Sandra Marie Redmond of Bryant and Pamela Sue Scott of Johnston Island in the South Pacific; and two great grandchildren, Perry Lynn Rae and Paige Vaughn both of Benton.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, January 26, at Merrill cemetery in Hempstead County with Rev. Scott Neathery officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
James Donald Ward
James Donald Ward, 65, of Prescott died Friday, January 22, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Ward was born April 6, 1933, to Brad Ward and Agnes Ward White. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, June Billingsley Ward of Prescott; two daughters, Patricia Houser of Crestview, Fla., and Pamela Caudell of Prescott; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and several step brothers and step sisters.
Funeral services were Monday, January 25, at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bill Christian officiating. Burial was in Bethel cemetery under the direction of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
Loyd Rusher
Loyd Rusher, 45, of Rosston died Saturday, January 23, 1999, at Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
Mr. Rusher was born August 5, 1953, in Malvern to Joseph and Marie McHan Rusher. He was a self-employed logger and a member of Cross Roads Assembly of God Church near Delight.
Survivors include his wife, Delores Weaver Rusher; two sons, Joseph 'Joey' Rusher and Matthew Sterling Rusher both of Rosston; one brother, Leroy Rusher or Missouri; one sister, Jo Ann Lowery of Jones Mill; and his mother, Marie Rusher of Hot Springs.
Graveside services were Monday, January 25, at Pleasant Ridge cemetery near Prescott with Rev. Doug McClure officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
Noal A. Andrews
Noal A. Andrews, 79, of Wilmington, Ill., died Sunday, January 10, 1999, in Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, Ill.
Mr. Andrews was born November 3, 1919 in Prescott to Arthur and Nola (McClain) Andrews. He was a World War II veteran, having served with the U.S. Army in Alaska. He was a member of the UAW local 588 of Chicago Heights, retiring in 1987 after 30 years at Ford Motor Company in Chicago Heights.
Survivors include his wife Johnnie Helen (Phifer) Andrews; two sons, Danny L. Andrews and Randy Andrews, both of Wilmington; three brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private service was held at Freitag Funeral Home in Wilmington with cremation rites accorded at his request. Internment of ashes at Flatwoods cemetery in Camden, Tenn., was held at a later date.
