Dr. A. Milton Smith
Dr. A. Milton Smith, 95, died Tuesday, February 9, 1999, at St. Joseph Health Center.
Dr. Smith was born November 23, 1903, in Caney. He pastored in the Nazarene Church for 30 years, including 13 years at Kansas City's First Church of the Nazarene. He later served 17 years as a district superintendent. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Opal, in 1972; his second wife, Grace Lee, in 1996 as well as a son and daughter.
Survivors include three daughters, JoAnne Wynn, Norma Dell Smith and Donna Ruth Peoples; four grandchildren, Jann Wynn, Jean Wynn Sullivan, Michael D. Wynn and Ray C. Heck Jr.; four great grandchildren, Michael Downs, Jordan Wynn, and Raven and Rayce Heck; two nieces, Margaret Barham of Cale, Mary Ann Stewart of Prescott; and one nephew, Jim Smith of Texarkana.
Funeral services were Friday, February 12, at the First Church of Nazarene in Kansas City, Mo.

Esther Florence Caldwell
Esther Florence Bailey Caldwell, 86, of Rosston died Saturday, February 20, 1999, at an Arlington, Texas, hospital.
She was born November 2, 1912, in Nevada County to Thomas A. and Lenora Hendrix Bailey. She was a retired bank teller. Mrs. Caldwell was a member of Rosston Baptist Church. Her husband, the late Darrell P. Caldwell, passed away Sunday, February 21, 1999.
Survivors include one son, Charles Thomas Caldwell of Granbury, Texas; three sisters, Eva Martin, of Stamps, Myrl Dixon of Waterloo and Eunice Owens of Houston, Texas; a sister-in-law, Floy Waters and Herman of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren, Darrell Caldwell of Granbury and Judy Higgins and Kenneth Caldwell of Bedford, Texas; six great grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be today, Wednesday, February 24, at 10:00 a.m. at Rosston Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Ward Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Holly Springs cemetery in Nevada County. Arrangements will be under the arrangements of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.

Darrell P. Caldwell
Darrell P. Caldwell, 86, of Rosston died Sunday, February 21, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Caldwell was born November 23, 1912, in Rosston to Charles Preston and Lena Wortham Caldwell. He was a retired roofing manufacturer. Mr. Caldwell was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Florence Bailey Caldwell, who died the day before on February 20.
Survivors include one son, Charles Thomas Caldwell of Granbury, Texas; one sister, Floy Waters and Herman, Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren, Darrell Caldwell of Granbury and Judy Higgins and Kenneth Caldwell of Bedford, Texas; six great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
Graveside services will be today, Wednesday, February 24, at 11:00 a.m. at Holly Springs cemetery in Nevada County with Rev. Kenneth Ward Jr. officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.

Bernis Ray Crank
Bernis Ray Crank, 76, well-known Fort Bend County barber, passed away on Thursday, March 4, 1999, in Richmond, Texas.
Mr. Crank was born and reared in Emmet. He had been a resident of Richmond since 1947. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. Mr. Crank was preceded in death by his parents, Ross L. and Morilda Holder Crank, four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Crank of Richmond; two daughters, Ranelle Johnson and husband, Edwin, of Richmond and Vicki Crank Shindell of Tulsa, Okla.; two grandsons, Christopher Ray and Jonathan Scott Johnson both of Richmond; one great grandson, Dylan Ray Johnson; one sister, Nona Mae Browning of Hope; seven nephews; and one niece, Betty Crank of Lake Village.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 7, in the chapel of Garmany and Carden Funeral Directors in Richmond. Burial was in Morton cemetery in Richmond. Garmany and Garden Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.

Veron DeWoody Krummel
Vada Veron DeWoody Krummel died Sunday, March 21, 1999, in St. Louis, Mo.
Born October 15, 1909, in Nevada County, she lived most of her adult life in the St. Louis area. Mrs.Krummel was preceded in death by her parents, Barbara Cottingham and Louis Fulton DeWoody of Prescott; her husband, Paul Krummel of St. Louis; a daughter, Margaret Brockman of St. Louis; two sisters, Artee Redfern and Blanche Martin of Prescott; three brothers, Charlie and Ashley DeWoody of Prescott, and Sid DeWoody who was killed in action during World War II.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Don Schrier of St. Louis; a son-in-law, Norman Brockman of Shell Knob, Mo.; a granddaughter, Victoria Marek of St. Louis; three grandsons, Charles Koffman and Stephen Brockman of St. Louis and Kenneth Brockman of Springfield, Mo.; four great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Services were held Wednesday, March 24 at Kutis Funeral Home in St. Louis followed by interment in Gravois cemetery also in St. Louis.

Nell Rae Allen
Nell Rae Allen, 61, of Prescott died Thursday, April 1, 1999, in Texarkana.
Mrs. Allen was born December 9, 1937, in Prescott to Ray Carruthers and Sarah Orr Carruthers. She was a beautician and a member of First Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include her husband, Gary Allen of Prescott; a sister, Sarah Lou Cain of Texarkana, Texas; and a nephew, Jeff Cain of Texarkana, Texas.
Graveside services were Saturday, April 4, at Snell cemetery in Emmet with Jerry Westmoreland officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott.

George Washington Hunter
George Washington Hunter, 86, of Texarkana, Texas, died Thursday, April 1, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. Hunter was born January 23, 1913, in Prescott and lived in Texarkana since 1968, moving from Rosston. He was a retired minister and a member of the Nazarene Church.
Survivors include a special companion, Mary Turner of Texarkana, Texas; three daughters, Janet White of Mesquite, Texas, Phyllis Kirk of Dallas, Texas, and Gloria Boles of Houston, Texas; one sister, Jane Duncan of Hot Springs; seven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday, April 5, at Chapelwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel in Texarkana with the Rev. Raymond Hicks officiating. Burial was in Chapelwood Memorial Gardens under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home of Texarkana, Texas.

Joe Don Rocole
Joe Don Rocole, 23, of Prescott died Saturday, April 3, 1999, in Magnolia.
Mr. Rocole was born February 13, 1976, in Arkadelphia to Don and Norma Lee Self Rocole. He was a student at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia. He was a Baptist and a member of the U.S. Army National Guard.
Survivors include his father, Don Rocole of Prescott; his mother, Norma Lee Self Rocole of Prescott; one brother, Teddy Rocole of Magnolia; one sister, Mindy Rocole of Garden City, Mo.; paternal grandmother, Alta Freeman of Prescott; maternal grandmother, Evelyn Self of Vendor; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
There was a funeral service Tuesday, April 6, at Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home Chapel in Prescott with Rev. Gary Turner officiating. Another funeral service will be held today, Wednesday, April 7, at 2 p.m. at Nail Baptist Church in Nail with Rev. Bobby Young officiating. Burial will be in Nail cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.

Richard Scott Johnson
Richard Scott Johnson, 44, of Gurdon died Sunday, April 4, 1999, in his home.
Mr. Johnson was born June 16, 1954, in Boughton to Dickie Johnson and Erma Hunter. He worked in construction, was in the U.S. Air Force and he was a member of the United Pentecostal Church in Gurdon.
Survivors include Zonie Johnson of Gurdon; two sons, Chris Powell of Texarkana and Michael Edwards of Prescott; two daughters, Ragina Elliott of Willisville and Rachael Evans of Hope; three brothers, Greg Johnson of Georgia, Clinton Johnson of Prescott and Marc Johnson of Ohio; two sisters, Margie Haynie of Knoxville and Charlotte McArty of Gurdon; one stepson, Jesse Ashcraft of Gurdon; one stepdaughter, Tosha Ashcraft of Gurdon; his parents, Dickie Johnson of Boughton and Erma Hunter of Caney; his grandmother, Mildred Johnson of Boughton, stepfather, Thomas Hunter of Caney; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be today, Wednesday, April 7, at 11:00 at Morris cemetery with Rev. Bill O'Connell officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott.

John Herbert Witt
John Herbert Witt, 80, died Friday, April 2, 1999, at Prescott in a nursing home.
Mr. Witt was born December 4, 1918, in Shawmut. He was a graduate of Arkansas A&M; College in Magnolia. Mr. Witt was a retired decorated major of the United States Air Force, where he served as a bomber pilot, flying 53 missions in the South Pacific during World War II. He owned and operated a dry goods store in Delight. Mr. Witt was member of the Delight United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school and was Sunday school superintendent for many years. He was a lay speaker and was a member of the church choir. Mr. Witt was a charter member and past president of the Delight Lions Club, past secretary of the Delight School board, where he served 19 years, a member of the Pike County Hospital board, where he served 17 years, a past member of the Pike County Board of Education and a rural mail carrier for 18 years with the Delight Post Office.
Survivors include his wife, Rachel Nolen Witt; one son, John Franklin Witt of Stillwater, Okla.; three daughters, Barbara Jean Witt of Surrey, England, Paige Witt Cortes of Pittsburg, Kan., and Amy Witt Browder of Hamburg, Penn.; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 5, at the Delight United Methodist Church with Freeman Henderson officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home of Arkadelphia. Memorials may be made to Lions International.

Roosevelt Norman
Roosevelt Norman, 85, of Prescott died March 24, 1999.
Mr. Norman was born December 25, 1913, in Prescott to the late William Norman and Laura Sandifer Norman. He was a member of Mt. Cana Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and Sunday school superintendent. He kindly touched many lives as he worked in the Prescott School District as a school bus driver for 28 years and then retired.
Survivors include two sons, Roosevelt Norman Jr., and his wife, Faye, and Horace Norman; one daughter, Brenda Norman Cavil, and her husband, Bill; one brother, Willie Norman; two sisters, Sarah Mae Winfrey and Nell Marie Norman; four grandsons, Earl Norman, Christopher Norman, Terence Norman and Jason Cavil; two granddaughters, Adrienne Cavil and Shanna Norman; and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Tuesday, March 30, at Mt. Cana Baptist Church with Rev. Fred Walters officiating. Burial was in Sweet Home cemetery under the direction of Marks Funeral Home of Magnolia.

Dee Howard
Dee Howard, 54, of Prescott died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at Christus St. Michael's Health System in Texarkana, Texas.
Mrs. Howard was born December 8, 1944, in Downey, Calif., to William Edward and Ruby I. Hodges Tennison. She was a licensed practical nurse for Care Network in Hot Springs and Heather Manor North in Hope. She was a member of VFW Auxiliary in Hope and she enjoyed fishing and boating. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Elaine Baker.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Howard; two sons, Billy Doss of Prescott and Mike Doss of California; two daughters, Paula Marie Arnold of Bullhead City, Ariz., and Diana Brzeski of Prescott; one brother, Eddie A. Tennison of Choctaw, Okla.; four sisters, Blaine Olsen of Kingmon, Ariz., Betty Mae of La Mirada, Calif., and Ruth Marie Musselwhite of and Joyce 'Sam' Leonard both of Bullhead City, Ariz.; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 10, at Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home Chapel in Prescott with Rev. Neal Ridling officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens cemetery in Hope. Arrangements were under the direction of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.

Mary Esther Harrison
Mary Esther Harrison, 71, of Prescott died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at Hillcrest Care and Rehab.
Mrs. Harrison was born March 5, 1928, in Rosston to James B. Cearley and Edna Butler Cearley. She was a housewife and a member of Bodcaw #2 Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Harrison in 1987.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Jerry Martin of Prescott; one son, Leon Harrison Jr., of Texarkana, Ark.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Sunday, April 11, at Bodcaw #2 Baptist Church with Bro. David Hampton and Bro. Eric Barbaree officiating. Burial was in Union cemetery in Bodcaw under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott.
