Gladys G. Hawley
Gladys G. Hawley, 90, of Prescott died Wednesday, December 27, 2000, at Hillcrest Care and Reha.
Mrs. Hawley was born March 22, 1910, in Naples, Texas, to Will and Mary Vincent Johnson. She was a housewife and a member of the Prescott Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, D.L. Hawley, in 1999.
Survivors include a niece, Mary Louise Barksdale of Prescott, and a special friend, Vernell Loe of Prescott.
Funeral services were held Friday, December 29, at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Pleasant Ridge cemetery under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott.
James T. McElfresh
James T. McElfresh, 63, of Camden died Monday, December 25, 2000.
Mr. McElfresh was a member of Eagle Mills First Baptist Church.
Survivors include one brother, Charlie McElfresh of Camden; three sisters, Maxine Wilson of Camden; Wima Lucas of Bastrop, La., and Marie Phillips of Mt. Holly.
Funeral services were held Thursday, December 28, at Proctor Chapel with internment at Pleasant Ridge cemetery near Prescott under the direction of Proctor Funeral Home of Camden.
Bobbie Nell Martin Silvey
Bobbie Nell Martin Silvey, 81, of Calico Rock died Tuesday, December 26, 2000, at the Medical Center in Calico Rock.
Mrs. Silvey was born August 11, 1919, at Hope. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Calico Rock and the Easter Star. She was a retired music teacher, pianist and singer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Silvey, in May 1998.
Survivors include a daughter, Fredricks Silvey Johns of Munich, Germany; several nieces and nephews, Dr. Larry Silvey, Joyce Pinkerton and Jessie Mae deCordova of Texarkana, Ark., Donna Kroap of Millington, Tenn., and Betty Baker of Stamps.
Funeral services were held Friday, December 29, at the Smith Funeral Home in Stamps with Dr. Larry Silvey officiating. Burial was in Union cemetery at Bodcaw under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Stamps.
Lucy Marie Taylor
Lucy Marie Taylor, 91, of Prescott died Saturday, December 30, 2000, at Hillcrest Care and Rehab Center.
Mrs. Taylor was born December 5, 1909, in Nevada County to Jarrett and Ethel Applegate White. Mrs. Taylor was a retired inspector at the pajama factory and a nurse's aide at Hillcrest. She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her husband, Leland Taylor, a grandson, Lee Harvey Taylor, and a granddaughter, Jana Hollomon.
Cherishing her memory are three sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph and JoAnne Watson Taylor of Wilmington, Ill., William Harvey ‘Bud' and Faye Taylor of Prescott and Bobby Wayne and Sophie Taylor of Prescott; one daughter and son-in-law, Betty Sue and James Roberson of Garland, Texas; two sisters, Donnie Rinkle of Prescott and Oleta Barham of Longview, Texas; ten grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 1, in the chapel of Shackelford Funeral Home with Bro. Ricky Burke officiating. Interment was in Liberty cemetery near Prescott under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott.
Pallbearers were Jeff Holloman, Paul Cox, Bobby Taylor Jr., Jerry Booker, Randy Taylor and Ryan Burdue.
Marguerite McGough Henley
Marguerite McGough Henley, 82, of Laneburg died Tuesday, January 2, 2001, at her home.
Mrs. Henley was born September 27, 1918, in Laneburg to R.B. and Lillie Rodgers McGough. She was a homemaker, a former school teacher in Laneburg and Reeder Schools, a former employee of Hope Proving Ground and AT&T; Telephone Company. She was a member of Laneburg Baptist Church. Mrs. Henley was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Edgar Henley, who died August 30, 2000.
Survivors include one brother, James B. McGough and his wife Peggy of Laneburg; a special caregiver, Christine Dalton of Prescott; and several nephews.
Graveside services were held Thursday, January 4, in Laneburg cemetery with Rev. David Hampton officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
George Hesterly Scott
George Hesterly Scott, 81, of Prescott died Sunday, December 24, 2000, at Hillcrest Care and Rehab.
Mr. Scott was born June 6, 1919, in Prescott, the only child of George Wren and Bertha Hesterly Scott. He was an electrical engineer, retiring from Bendix Corporation in Kansas City, Mo., in 1980. Prior to Bendix, he worked for Art Electronics in Little Rock for seven years. He also taught at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville for seven years. Besides being a devoted husband, father and friend, he was honored to be a deacon at First Baptist Church of Prescott and enjoyed operating the sound system there for several years.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Reba Moncrief Scott of Prescott; a son, George M. Scott of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Darrell Garner of Aurora, Mo.; a brother-in-law, A.C. Moncrief II and his wife Tina of Searcy; five grandchildren, Bryan Scott, Shelly Thomas, Debbie Smith of California Marci and Dana Garner of Missouri and Andrew Garner of Texas; and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 2, at Shackelford Funeral Chapel. Burial was in DeAnn cemetery under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott.
Beth McAteer
Beth McAteer, 47, of Bodcaw died Saturday, December 30, 2000, at Christus St. Michael Health System of Texarkana, Texas.
Mrs. McAteer was born February 23, 1953, in Hope to J.W. and Norma Jean Bobo. She was a former school teacher with the Nevada School District, having received her masters from Henderson State University in English and history. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Hope. Mrs. McAteer was preceded in death by her mother, Norma Jean Bobo.
Survivors include her husband, Gary McAteer of Bodcaw; a son, Luke McAteer of Bodcaw; a daughter, Shannon McAteer of Bodcaw; her father and his wife, Rev. J.W. and Virginia Bobo of Monticello; a brother, Rev. Jimmy Bobo of Sheridan; a sister, Linda Reddock of Crowville, La.; and five nieces and nephews, Lydia Reddock, John Andrew Reddock, Destiny Reddock, James Bobo and Misti Bobo.
Funeral services were Monday, January 1, at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home Chapel in Hope with Rev. Bobby Ragan officiating. Burial was in Union cemetery in Bodcaw under the direction of Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home of Hope.
Horace Jones
Horace Jones, 93, of Prescott died Saturday, December 30, 2000, at Hillcrest Care and Rehab.
Mr. Jones was born October 9, 1907, in Prescott to Arthur Preston and May Felts Jones. He was a retried president of Christopher Oil Co., a member of the Church of Christ and an elder in the church. He was also a long time member of the Prescott Rotary Club. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his wife, Mae, in 1997.
Survivors include his daughter, Sue Jones Pollock of Prescott; two grandchildren, Cary and Scott Pollock; five great grandchildren, Cara Pollock, Maxwell Jones Pollock, Lauran Pollock, Will Pollock and Chelsea Pollock.
Funeral services were Tuesday, January 2, at the Prescott Church of Christ with Gene Cloer officiating. Burial was in DeAnn cemetery in Prescott under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott.
Artie Glass Hart
Artie Glass Hart, 100, of Hope died Thursday, December 28, 2000, at Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
Mrs. Hart was born February 19, 1900, in Arkansas. She was a member of Providence Memorial Baptist Church of Perrytown. Mrs. Hart was preceded in death by her husband and two sons.
She is survived by several nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 30, at Morris Chapel Church at Caney with Rev. Jim Cross officiating. Burial was in Morris cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Stamps.
Zonie Marie Johnson
Zonie Marie Johnson, 37, of Whelen Springs died Wednesday, January 10, 2001, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Hot Springs.
Mrs. Johnson was born March 23, 1963, in El Dorado to James and Shirley Schee Jr. She was a housewife. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Scott Johnson, in 1999.
Survivors include her son, Marion Jesse Ashcraft of Whelen Springs; two daughters, Tasha Ashcraft of Arkadelphia and Jennifer Webb of Hot Springs; her mother, Shirley Cooper of Whelen Springs; her sisters, Cherry Miller of Hot Springs and Renee Johnson of Gurdon; her grandmother, Mae Ezell of Arkadelphia; two grandchildren; three step children; and four step grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Saturday, January 13, at Morris cemetery at Caney under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott.
Pauline Lillian Sanders
Pauline Lillian Sanders, 82, of Prescott died Thursday, January 11, 2001, at Medical Park Hospital in Hope.
Mrs. Sanders were born March 3, 1918, in Hot Springs to William Hamilton and Mable Edith Bagwell Sanders.
Survivors include one sister, Lois Marie Riggs of Prescott; five nieces, Joyce Samuels of DeAnn, Betty Beavert of Dallas, Texas, Carolyn Brown, Edith Shomo and Barbara Sanders; three nephews, William R. ‘Buster' Riggs of Texarkana, Texas, Coy Dean Sanders and James Sanders.
Graveside services were held Saturday, January 13, at Pleasant Ridge cemetery near Prescott with Gene Cloer officiating. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
Gerrie Suzanne Craig Griffin
Gerri Suzanne Craig Griffin, 23, of Prescott died Saturday, January 13, 2001, at University of Arkansas Medical Center in Little Rock.
Mrs. Griffin was born August 22, 1977, in Texarkana, Texas, to Gerald and Nelda Snell Craig. She was a housewife and member of Bethel Baptist Church in Hempstead County. She was preceded in death by her father, Mr. Gerald Craig.
Survivors include her husband, Sammy Griffin of Prescott; one daughter, Cheyenne Griffin of Prescott; her mother, Nelda Craig of Prescott; three brothers, Lindell Craig of Gurdon, Wally Craig of Prescott and Toby Craig of Prescott; two sisters, Robin Cutchall of Fouke and Lynn Harris of Delight; and maternal grandmother, Ora Snell Avery of Hope.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 15, at Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home Chapel in Prescott with Rev. Bill Christian and Rev. Glen Chambers officiating. Burial was in Bethel cemetery under the direction of Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
Jesse Roy Steed
Jesse Roy Steed, 73, of Prescott died Saturday, January 13, 2001, at St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana, Texas.
Mr. Steed was born October 26, 1927, in Pine Bluff to William and Oda Steed. He was owner/operator of the former Liberty Valu-Mart Grocery Store in Prescott. Mr. Steed was a member of the American Legion and an active member of First Church of the Nazarene in Prescott. He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Steed.
Cherishing his memory are his loving wife, Dolly Dawson Steed of Prescott; one son, Roy Steed of Springfield, Va., one daughter, Nan Steed May of Murfreesboro; one brother, W.E. Steed of Pine Bluff; two sisters, Dorothy Mooney of Pine Bluff and Joyce Earnest of Rison; four grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
A memorial service of celebration was held Monday, January 15, at First Church of the Nazarene with Bro. Phillip Hull officiating. Graveside services were held Monday afternoon at Memorial Park cemetery in Pine Bluff under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene in Prescott or to your favorite charity.
