Ellen Bobo
(August 24, 1939 - December 12, 2012)

Ellen Martin Ohls Bobo, a longtime resident of Arkadelphia, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at her home in Troy, Ala., after a long illness.

Ellen was born Aug. 24, 1939, to Moritz Alexander and Boulware Martin Ohls. She graduated from Arkadelphia Senior High School, and received her bachelor of science in education and masters of science in education degrees from Henderson State University. Ellen taught kindergarten and first grade over her 40-year teaching career. She taught in the Memphis School District and worked until retirement at Oaklawn Elementary School in Hot Springs. Ellen loved good books, good food, and socializing with her friends and family. She also enjoyed going to plays and musicals, and had a witty, dry sense of humor. Ellen was active in the Arkadelphia Philharmonic Club, Colerean Club, Retired Teachers Association, Woman's Library Association and the Clark County Historical Association. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Arkadelphia.

She is survived by son, John Timothy Bobo; stepson, Chris Bobo; stepdaughter, Melissa Bobo; and six grandchildren that brought great joy to her in later years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Buddy Bobo. .

Relatives and friends are welcome to join Ellen's family at a memorial service at the First United Methodist Church in Arkadelphia on Thursday, Dec. 27th, at 10 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Clark County Library.

John Ross Benson
(February 18, 1948 - January 31, 2015)

U.S. Veteran
John Ross Benson age 66 of Hot Springs Village, AR died Saturday, January 31, 2015 in Hot Springs. He was born February 18, 1948 the son of John Calvin and Billie Schlenker Benson. He was owner and operator of Dent Magic Auto Repair. John was a U. S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors include one son, Bill Benson of Hot Springs, one daughter, Lee Ann Benson of Austin, AR, his mother, Billie Benson of Arkadelphia, two sisters, JoLynn Todd and her husband Nicky of Arkadelphia and Kathy Green of Donaldson, three grandchildren, Brianna Lane and Calvin and Jenny Bond.

No services are planned.

Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 223 Rosa L. Parks Ave., Suite 301, Nashville, TN 37203.

Lovice Mazola Garner
(August 5, 1924 - June 6, 2012)

Lovice Garner age 87 of Benton formerly of Arkadelphia died Wednesday, June 6, 2012 in Bryant. She was born August 5, 1924 the daughter of the late Robert Allen and Rettie Isabella Hardy Peek. Lovice was a retired seamstress with Oberman's Manufacturing in Arkadelphia. She was a member of Pine Street Church of Christ in Arkadelphia and was attending Salem Rd. Church of Christ near Benton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray J. Garner; two brothers, Lual Peek and Leamon Peek.

Survivors are two sisters, Lora Peek and Loice Peek both of Benton and one niece.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, June 9th at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia. Burial will follow in Jones cemetery at Amity. Body will lie in state on Friday at the funeral home. No formal visitation will be held.

Rea Marceil Penney
(May 28, 1919 - April 30, 2012)

Rea Marceil Miles Penney, age 92 of Arkadelphia, Arkansas passed away on Monday, April 30, 2012 at Twin Rivers Health and Rehabilitation in Arkadelphia. She was born May 28, 1919, the daughter of C.W. and Pearl Birden Clay in Hydro, Oklahoma. She grew up in Garber, Oklahoma and married Kenneth G. Miles, Sr. in 1937. To this marriage was born two sons and four daughters. Rea, known to some as "Marcy", was an excellent Christian Mother, Sunday School Teacher, Insurance Secretary and she received her LPN License later in life to fulfill a lifelong calling.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Harry Clay and Clinton Clay; her husband of 56 years, Kenneth G. Miles, Sr. and her husband of ten years, Elmer Penney of Arkadelphia; one daughter, Carolyn Zuniga; and one son, David Miles.

Rea is survived by one son, Ken Miles and wife, Betsy of Arkadelphia; three daughters, Jan and John Sears of Cordell, Oklahoma; Rea and Phil Pounds of Pflugerville, Texas; Darla and Mark Sears of Pocola, Oklahoma; one brother, Walter Clay of Liberal, Kansas; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Clinton Clay of Enid, Oklahoma.

Her beloved grandchildren include Steve Calhoun, Cindi Reese, Shelli and Troy Conrad, SuLyn and Darryl Wine, Kayla and Jeff Abernathy, Johnathan Miles, Scott Sears, Todd and Angie Sears, Matt and Christy Sears, Holly McComb, Josh and Renee Pounds, Ryan Pounds and Lindsay Sears. Rea is also survived by nineteen great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews, numerous friends and relatives.

The funeral service will be held at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home at 10 AM Thursday, May 3 and will be led by Rev. Drew Smith. Graveside services will be 11 AM Friday at Memorial Park cemetery in Enid, OK. The family will receive visitors following the service at the funeral home. The family offers a special acknowledgement to the Administration and Staff of Twin Rivers for their loving, professional care and treatment of our Mother. Memorials may be made to the Cedar Grove Baptist church.

Clifford Lawrence Knighten Sr.
(July 13, 1936 - September 2, 2011)

Clifford Lawrence Knighten Sr., age 75, of Arkadelphia, passed away on Friday, September 2, 2011 in Arkadelphia. He was born July 13, 1936 in Glenwood, Arkansas the son of the late William Andrew and Evie Emmalene Widner Knighten. Clifford was a retired installer for Automatic Electric Co., a U. S. Marine veteran and a member of Third Street Baptist Church. He formerly attended the Assembly of God Church where he enjoyed directing the choir for several years.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-four years, Emma Beth Fletcher Knighten; two sons, Clifford Lawrence Knighten Jr. and his wife, Susan of San Antonio, Texas, Kevin Wayne Knighten and wife, Lisa of Minneapolis, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Rex Knighten, Benjamin Paul Knighten and wife, Sarah, and Grace Ella Knighten; two brothers, William Lamar Knighten and wife, Martha of Odessa, Texas, Larry Wayne Knighten and wife, Jean of Fairfax, Virginia; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 6th at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Greg Lathem officiating. Interment will be in Pike City cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.

Carl Wayne Muse
(January 19, 1954 - May 23, 2011)

Carl Wayne Muse, age 57, of Antoine, died Monday, May 23, 2011 at his home. He was born January 19, 1954 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of Fred and Bobbie Sue Knipp Muse. Carl was the manager of Midas Auto Service in Hot Springs. He was a member of Antoine Baptist Church and a highly decorated U. S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Muse and one son, Joshua Wayne Muse.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie Muse; two daughters, Shelia Hendrix (Eric) of Antoine, Arkansas; Amanda Tompkins (James) of Blevins, Arkansas; two sons, Robert K. Muse (Sarah) of Delight, Arkansas; Shane Muse (Tonya) of Austin, Arkansas; two step-sons, Chris Stone (Courtney) and Chase Stone (Erica) all of Delight, Arkansas; his mother, Bobbie Sue Muse of Jeffersonville, Indiana; three brothers, Fred Muse (Carolyn) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Robert Muse (Lynne) of Marysville, Indiana; Kenny Muse (Kaye) of Frankfort, Indiana; two sisters, Rebecca Worley (Ron) of Indianapolis, Indiana; Margie Hackler (Greg) of Greenfield, Indiana; eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, May 27th at Antoine cemetery with Bro. Larry Bloomfield officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Antoine cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Thursday at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia.

Pallbearers will be Bud Goodwin, Randy Alexander, Robert Horton, Mark Buhrow, C. E. Lockwood and Pat Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Karl Kohler and Jerry Sarver.

Memorials may be made to Vietnam Veterans of America.

David E. Standridge
(July 20, 1962 - March 14, 2012)

David E. Standridge, age 49 of Bismarck, Arkansas died Wednesday, March 14th, 2012 at his home in Bismarck. He was born July 20th, 1962 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was a member of Lake Hamilton Baptist Church in Hot Springs, Arkansas. David was an engineer for Union Pacific Railroad. David also had a degree in graphic design. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Freddie Mae Dilbeck and Elijah and Zazel Standridge of Mena, Arkansas.

He is survived by his loving ex-wife, Lisa Standridge and their three daughters, Candace, Madison, and Dannon Standridge and one grand -daughter, Karol Standridge of Bismarck, Arkansas; His father Elton Gene Standridge of Gurdon, Arkansas and his mother, Joann Cauley of Mena, Arkansas; His sister, Julie Dickerson and brother-in-law Terry Dickerson of Bismarck, Arkansas; also two nephews, 6 step brothers and sisters and a host of family and friends.

Visitation will be held Friday night from 6:00 – 8:00p.m. at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 17, at the Lower Big Fork cemetery in Mena, Arkansas. Brother Terry Coleman will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Terry and Nicholas Dickerson, Wayne McMillian, Paul Sandgren and Randy Goad. Honorary Pallbearers are Ricky Wells, James Henderson and Jake Dickerson.

James Edney
(October 9, 1950 - January 12, 2013)

Earnest James Edney Jr. age 62 of Emmet, AR died January 12, 2013. He was born October 9 1950 the son of Ernest James and Mary Lee Houston Edney. He was a retired mechanic for the Arkansas State Highway Department and treasurer for the Swamp Riders Motorcycle Club. He was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis Jean Edney and a sister Annie Sue Horskamp.

Survivors include one sister, Barbara Stewart (Ray) of Arkadelphia, one nephew, Ernie Horskamp and three nieces, Shannon Stewart, Lorraine Horskamp and Mandy Bunn.

Graveside funeral services will be 2 PM Tuesday, January 15th in the Smyrna cemetery with Rev. Tommy Nash officiating. There will be no formal visitation.

Memorials may be made to Arkansas Children's Hospital, 1 Children's Way Slot 61, Little Rock, AR 72202-3591.

DeAnna Lane Patterson
(June 21, 1975 - July 17, 2011)

DeAnna Lane Dunkelgod Patterson age 36 of Arkadelphia passed from this life on Sunday, July 17, 2011 at Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia. She was born June 21, 1975 in Arkadelphia, the daughter of Carl Henry and Janet Delane Reynolds Dunkelgod. DeAnna was a graduate of Arkadelphia high School and attended Manchester United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her father.

DeAnna is surivived by her husband Larry Douglas Patterson Jr. her mother Janet Dunkelgod of Arkadelphia, her brother Trey (Marsha) Dunkelgod, father in law and mother in law Larry Douglas & Millie Patterson Sr. of Arkadelphia, brother in law and sister in law James and Betty McWhirter of Hampton, sister in law and brother in law Tammy and Buddy Sims of Arkadelphia, nieces Taylor Madison and Chloe Delane Dunkelgod, Destinee and Dustin Sims, nephews James and Chris McWhirter Jr . special friend Barbara Bettis.

A celebration of DeAnna's life will be held at Welch Funeral Home on Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM with Rev. David Smith and Rev. George Whitney officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until service time Wednesday.

Honorary pallbearers are J.T. McGhee, Troy Rogers, Don Deaton, Ronnie Stephenson, Donnie Stephenson, David Long.

Memorials may be made to Clark County Humane Society.

Barbara Jean Priest
(October 13, 1927 - July 26, 2015)

Barbara Jean Priest age 87 of Arkadelphia died Sunday, July 26, 2015. She was born October 13, 1927 the daughter of John and Viola Fowler Getty. She was county coordinator of the Senior Companion Program and a member of Al-Anon in 5 counties for 36 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Jessie Priest, a brother, Douglas Getty, two sisters, Edith Kleinstuber and Jackie Morton.

Survivors include three sons, Jeffrey (Tammie) Priest of Bismarck, Jessie (Teddie) Priest of Sparkman, and John Mark Priest of El Dorado, one daughter, Janis (Harry Wagner) Skaggs of Ft. Smith, one sister, Ada Amine Juglowski of Malbourh, CT, 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held 10 AM Sunday, August 9th at the pavilion at Arlie Moore Landing on DeGray Lake with Sylvia Tate officiating.

Barbara's family asked that this be a celebration of Barbara's life. Anyone wishing to bring pictures, mementos, stories to share, readings, remembrances, etc. please feel free to do that and be a part of the celebration. After the celebration there will be a pot luck lunch so bring something to share. Also, there are picnic tables in the pavilion, if you need different seating feel free to bring that as well.

At a later date, Barbara's cremated remains will be interred next to her husband at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Hwy. 8, Arkadelphia AR.
