Biographical And Historical Memoirs of Pulaski, Jefferson, Lonoke, Faulkner, Grant, Saline, Perry, Garland And Hot Spring Counties, Arkansas

THELMA RUTH MORRIS DOUGLAS, daughter of Homer A. and Margaret Mae (Jacques) Morris was born September 22, 1916 in Verona, Missouri, and died May 28, 2004, at her home in in Green Forest, Arkansas, at the age of 87.
On March 26, 1935, she was united in marriage with John C. Douglas and to this union five children were born. Ruth was a member of the Green Forest Assembly of God Church for many years. She was also a loving wife and mother and was a school teacher in her early years, having opened the Ward School in 1935. She also taught at the Rule and Clearwater Schools.
She is survived by her son, Homer B. and his wife, Mary Douglas of Bellevue, Nebraska; three daughters, Christine and her husband, Jimmy Hale of Green Forest, Arkansas, Charlette and her husband, John Peterson of Hoisington, Kansas, and Brenda and her husband, Darrell Gabbard of Corpus Christi, Texas; her great granddaughter that she raised as her own daughter, Tani Cantwell of Green Forest; two sister-in-law, Arvilla Douglas and Mildred Morris; two nephews, Melvin Morris and Charles Owsley; one niece, Jerry Nell Anderson; a son-in-law, Harold Wheatley; fourteen grandchildren; and twenty -four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; one daughter, Lorene Wheatley; two grandchildren, Lesa and Michael Hale; her brothers, Eldon Morris and Troy Morris; one sister, Susan Lorraine Morris; and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at the First Assembly of God Church in Green Forest with Rev. Billy Burris officiating. Interment will be in the Pickens Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.

LARRY CLYDE DAVIS, a resident of Berryville, Arkansas, was born August 27, 1961, in Montclair, California, a son of Bobby Gene and Betty Sue (Davis) Davis. He departed this life Monday, June 7, 2004, in Berryville at the age of 42.
Larry was a musician.
He is survived by his mother, Betty Davis of Berryville; one brother, Randy Davis of Berryville; one sister, Lori Davis Phillips of Berryville; one nephew, Chris Williamson of Charlotte, North Carolina; one niece, Jessie Phillips of Berryville.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Gene Davis.

Charles Daggett of Berryville, Arkansas, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, in Berryville. He was born July 2, 1917, in Shelby, Nebraska, to Charles Orville and Grace Daggett. He moved to the Beaver Dam-Grassy Knob area from Long Beach, California, in 1968. He was a Brickmason by trade.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Daggett of the home; one brother, Jack Daggett of Apple Valley, California; and one sister, Dianne Carr of Kennewick, Washington.
The family will host a celebration of Chuck's life at the Beaver Lake Starkey Pavillion on Sunday, June 13, 2004 at 6:30 P.M. Friends are cordially invited to attend.

JACQUELINE JEAN COLLIER, a resident of Holiday Island, Arkansas was born August 22, 1932 in Sabetha, Kansas a daughter of Robert and Mina A (Nichols) Maynard. She departed this life Friday, May 7, 2004 in Berryville, Arkansas at the age of 71.
Mrs. Collier was a member of the Holiday Island Community Church and an educator.
On December 21, 1952 she was united in marriage with Bobby Dale Collier who survives her. She is also survived by a son, Michael Robert and his wife Connie Collier of Merriden, Kansas; three daughters, Janet and her husband Jerry Jesky of Kansas City, Missouri, Kathryn Leigh and her husband David Heininger of Arizona and Sara Phillips of Topeka, Kansas; several grandchildren, several great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, David Loyal and Jeffrey Alan Collier and one brother, Robert Maynard.
Memorial donations may be made to the Flint Street Food bank, 33 North Main, Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

ORVIL E. CLARK, a resident of Berryville, Arkansas, was born December 11, 1934, in Boxley, Arkansas, a son of James H. and Delma (Armes) Clark. He departed this life Wednesday, June 9, 2004, in Berryville at the age of 69.
Orvil was a poultry farmer and he also drove a propane gas truck for many years. He was a 32nd degree Mason, receiving a Grand Masters Membership Award in 1990. Orvil served as Master of Ashley Lodge #66 in 1970, 1980, 1986, 1989, and 1990. He was District Duputy Grand Master in 1997 and 1998, and he received his Pillars of Solomon Award in 2002. He was also a member of the Kings River Scottish Rite Club in Berryville, 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason in the Valley of Fort Smith Lodge, past Nobel Grand of International order of Odd Fellows in Springdale, Arkansas, and was a member of the Eastern Starr. Orvil was a veteran, serving with the National Guard where he was trained as an electrical lineman. He loved playing the fiddle, country music and southern gospel music. He attended the Towering Oaks Church in Berryville.
On June 24, 1957, he was united in marriage with Joetta (McCollough) Clark who survives him of the home. He is also survived by two sons, David and his wife, Rhonda Clark of Springdale, Arkansas, and Dwayne Clark of Des Moines, Iowa; his daughter, Janet and her husband, Randy Brown of Fayetteville, Arkansas; his mother, Delma Clark of Springdale; two sisters, Myrtle and her husband, Charles Davenport of Springdale, and Reeva Clark of Springdale; two sisters-in-law, Ruby Clark of Springdale and Imogene Clark of Independence, Missouri; his partner and nephew, Eddie Clark of Berryville, Arkansas; two other nephews, Harvey Clark and Newell Clark; his niece, Susie Ratterree; five grandchildren; many other relatives; and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Clark; and two brother, Millard Clark and Melvin Clark.

WILLIAM (BILL) BRADLEY CASH, a resident of Berryville, Arkansas was born June 11, 1960 in St. Louis, Missouri a son of Lloyd and Shirley Jean (McGill) Cash. He departed this life Sunday, June 20, 2004 in his home at the age of 44. Mr. Cash was a cabinet maker. He is survived by his son, Jeremy and his wife Yolanda Cash of Berryville; his daughter, Tabitha Cash of California; three brothers, Lloyd and his wife, Ivy Cash of California, Barry Cash of California, and Bruce and his wife Carrie Cash of California; four sisters, Barbara and her husband Angelo Gallo of California, Belinda and her husband, Tino Vasquez of California, Bridgett Mattos of Illinois and Robin Cash of Illinois; three grandchildren, Nathan Allen Green, Brookelyn Kay Green and Colton Tyler Ladewig all of Berryville; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Bryan Cash and one sister, Robin Martin.

AUDREY THELMA BONHAM, a resident of Kimberling City, Missouri, was born October 16, 1906, in Viola, Missouri, a daughter of Denton Isaac and Nancy Hannah (Downs) Smith. She departed this life Thursday, August 5, 2004, in Kimberling City at the age of 97.
Mrs. Bonham was a homemaker.
She is survived by her son, Gene Bonham of Shell Knob, Missouri; two daughters, Donna Swofford of Shell Knob, and Alene Swofford of Blue Eye, Missouri; two sisters, Lois McMinn of Prineville, Oregon, and Maxine Carey of Coffeyville, Kansas; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oran David Bonham; her son, Vancel Bonham; her daughter, Wanda Bonham; a brother, Hosea Smith; and one sister, Mable Smith.

DORIS HOWARD BAUGH, 27, and her daughter, SANTANA MARIE HOWARD, age 6, residents of Berryville, Arkansas, departed this life Friday, August 13, 2004, near Berryville. Doris was born June 5, 1977, in Huntsville, Arkansas, a daughter of Gary Miles and Loretta Mae (Birchfield) Howard. Santana was born July 3, 1998, to William F. and Doris Marie Baugh.
Doris was a homemaker and Santana was a student. They were members of the First Assembly of God Church in Berryville.
On October 3, 1999, Doris was united in marriage with Billy Baugh who survives them of the home. Other survivors include: her children, William Lee Baugh and Ashley Nichole Dacheff both of the home; her brother, Rebel Miles Howard of Green Forest, Arkansas; sisters, Lori Mae Holland and Deanna Malina Grassman both of Berryville; parents, Gary and Loretta Howard of Green Forest; grandfather, Delbert Howard of Berryville; several nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles; other relatives; and a host friends.
Santana is survived by her father, Billy; siblings, William and Ashley; her paternal grandfather, Edwin Baugh of Berryville; maternal grandparents, Gary and Loretta Howard; her great grandparents, Frieda Rebecca Baugh, of Berryville, Ruth Johnson of Lubbock, Texas, and Delbert Howard; several aunts, uncles, cousins; and other relatives and friends.
They were preceded in death by their maternal grandfather (great grandfather); and their paternal grandmother (great grandmother).

LESTER BALDWIN, a resident of Berryville, Arkansas was born May 3, 1916 in Friend, Kansas a son of Wesley Beldon “W.B.” and Ethel (McKee) Baldwin. He departed this life Sunday, June 27, 2004 at the age of 88.
Mr. Baldwin was a farmer and a member of the Wesleyan Church in Syracuse, Kansas.
On November 24, 1937 he was united in marriage with Martha (Thompson) Baldwin who survives him. He is also survived by three sons, Robert Dean and his wife Sandra Baldwin of Jasper, Arkansas, James Baldwin of Bothel, Washington, and Gary and his wife Janice Baldwin of Cleveland, Tennessee; three daughters, Carolyn Baldwin of Berryville, Arkansas, Sharon and her husband Larry Walters of Indianapolis, Indiana and Elaine and her husband Robert West of Berryville, Arkansas; a brother-in-law, Victor Horning of Syracuse, Kansas; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one brother, and four sisters.

MARY (ROSE) ORTIZ AYERS, a resident of Berryville, Arkansas, was born September 15, 1923, in Moore, Texas, a daughter of Joe and Hermina (Munoz) Ortiz. She departed this life Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in her home at the age of 80.
Mrs. Ayers worked for General Electric in California before her retirement. She volunteered at the St. Johns Auxiliary in Berryville and thrift shop in Green Forest, Arkansas. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Green Forest.
She is survived by three sons, Gene and his wife, Barbara Aguirre of Berryville, Arkansas, Freddie Aguirre of Berryville, Arkansas, and Robert Aguirre of El Paso, Texas; her daughter, Rosie Garcia of San Antonio, Texas; sixteen grandchildren; forty great grandchildren; a step son, Steve Ayers of Fontana, California; a step daughter, Connie Ayers of Bentonville, Arkansas; two brothers, Joe Ortiz, Jr. of Demmitt, Texas, and Johnny Ortiz of DeVine, Texas; three sisters, Alberta Bernea of Lytle, Texas, Lupe Ornelas of League City, Texas, and Minnie Guererro of Houston, Texas; several other relatives; and a host of friends.
She was united in marriage with Rex Ayers who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Hermina Ortiz; two sisters, Annie Martinez and Alice Martinez; and two daughters, Emma Guerra and Rita Cortez.

PAT ARNOLD, a resident of Holiday Island, Arkansas, was born June 27, 1923, in Center, Kentucky, a daughter of George T. and Okla (Clark) South. She departed this life Saturday, June 12, 2004, in Holiday Island at the age of 81.
Pat worked in civil service and was a clerk typist. She had lived in the Eureka Springs area for 17 years and was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Golden, Missouri.
On December 9, 1972, she was united in marriage with Alfred (Tony) Arnold who survives her of the home. She is also survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William and Nelta Ballinger of Rogers, Arkansas; her grandson, Michael Alan Ballinger of Brunswick, Georgia; her great grandson, Travis Ballinger of Brunswick, Georgia; her step son, Michael Arnold of San Antonio, Texas; her step daughter, Deborah and her husband, Mike Brodie of Universal City, Texas; a step granddaughter, Megan Brodie of Universal City, Texas; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Okla South.

JUDY A. SMITH, a resident of Holiday Island, Arkansas, was born July 10, 1938, in Peru, Indiana, a daughter of Walter Earl and Dorothea Ilene (Grepke) Mills. She departed this life Thursday, April 15, 2004, in Springdale, Arkansas, at the age of 65.
Judy was a homemaker. She was member of the Holiday Island Baptist Chapel, volunteering her time for church functions and projects. Judy was an avid bowler and took part in many community events.
On June 17, 1975, she was united in marriage with Richard K. Smith who survives her of the home. She is also survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Shari and Rick Klingshirn of Etna Green, Indiana, Beth and Jerry Whettstone of Akron, Indiana, and Pam and Jeff Prater of Rochester, Indiana; her son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Cheryl Harris of Akron, Indiana; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Maggie Mills of Holiday Island, Arkansas, and Steven and Linda Mills of Batesville, Indiana; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several other relatives; and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Dorothea Mills; and one sister, Shirley Romine.
A service in Indiana will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in honor of Judy A. Smith to Holiday Island Baptist Chapel, 14 Stateline Drive, Holiday Island, AR 72631.

TRACY ANN HAMMOND, a resident of Green Forest, Arkansas, was born November 5, 1966, in Chicago, Illinois, a daughter of David and Sharon Sue (Asbury) Hammond. She departed this life Friday, April 16, 2004, in her home at the age of 37.
Tracy was employed by Tyson Foods in Green Forest.
She is survived by her two sons, Brien Clinton and Drew Clinton both of Murphysboro, Illinois; a brother, Patrick Hammond; a sister, Erin McAnday; two nephews; three nieces; several other relatives; and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

LOUIS CLAUD EVANS, a resident of Berryville, Arkansas, was born August 16, 1921, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, a son of Benjamin and Beulah (Ammons) Evans. He departed this life Tuesday, April 20, 2004, in Berryville at the age of 82.
Mr. Evans was a lumber grader. He attended the Assembly of God Church in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Mr. Evans was a veteran, having served our country with the United States Army during World War II.
On April 22, 1946, he was united in marriage with Ozelle (Boyd) Evans who survives him of the home. He is also survived by three daughters, Barbara Jean Evan, Beverly Ann Evans, and Sharon Louise Evans all of Berryville, Arkansas; one brother, Gordon and his wife, Shirley Evans of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; two sisters, Agnes Johnson of Eureka Springs, and Ruth and her husband, Earl Wynn of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a brother-in-law, Paul Trammel of Eureka Springs; two sisters-in-law, Martha Evans of Catoosa, Oklahoma, and Edith Boyd of Eureka Springs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Beulah Evans; four brothers, Lonnie Evans, Troy Evans, George Evans, and Arvle Evans; and two sisters, Lucille Worley and Eeva Trammel.
