Anita Patricia Popp Palazolo
July 28, 1931 - February 23, 2013

Anita Patricia 'Pat' Popp Palazolo, 81, a resident of Hot Springs Village for over thirty years, passed away February 23, 2013.

She was born July 28, 1931 in Crosstown, Missouri to Arthur and Mary Triller.

Pat loved cats and anything feline.

She enjoyed playing cards with numerous pinochle groups and was the creator of many wonderful home cooked meals.

Pat also enjoyed travel. Her true passion was her family; in particular, her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; husbands, Richard C. Popp and Dominic Palazolo; and granddaughter, Rachel A. Popp.

Pat is survived by sons, Richard A. Popp (Karen) of Firestone, Colorado and Douglas J. Popp of Memphis, Tennessee; daughter, Pamela L. Tielens of Memphis; foster daughter, Julie R. Viereck (Dennis) of Walnut, California; loving ex-daughter-in-law, Lesa Popp Schmall; grandchildren, Kristen A. Henson (Josh), Kylee N. Popp, D.J. Viereck, Mary Jo Ratacca; great grandchildren, Jack P Henson and Joey Ratacca; and loving companion of eight years, Jerry Quick.

Interment will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Calvary cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee.

Local memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Caruth Village Funeral Home.

Arrangements are under the care of Caruth Village Funeral Home.

In lieu of her favorite flowers, yellow roses, memorials may be made to Arkansas Alliance for the Mentally Ill (AAMI).

John Frankin Cox, Sr.
May 10, 1942 - February 20, 2013

John Franklin Cox, Sr. of Hot Springs Village went to be with his Blessed Lord peacefully Wednesday morning, February 20, 2013.

John's love for Jesus was strong.

He read his Bible daily for years, which gave him and his wife great comfort and encouragement.

While in California he volunteered to run the food closet for his Baptist Church for over 10 years.

John was born in Tulsa, OK, the son of Glenn Malcolm Cox of Houston, TX and Myrtle McCabe Cox of Harrison, AR and the youngest of four siblings.

The family moved to Placerville, CA when he was a child.

John was a competitive athlete, from being a star football player for Christian Brothers HS in Sacramento to winning tournaments in both racket ball and golf throughout his adult years.

His sports buddies remember his good-natured teasing.

After retiring to Hot Springs Village, he and his wife were avid golfers.

They were also active in the Townhouse Association.

John was a proud Marine, serving his country in Vietnam, after which he graduated from the University of California Santa Cruz.

After working in finance, John built the largest Farmers Insurance Agency in the California Central Valley in Carmichael.

He was top sales agent for a number of years and a member of Farmers President's Council, Championship and Toppers Club.

John is survived by his wife of 16 years, Carolyn and two children, John F. Cox, Jr. an engineer in Fort Worth, TX and Toni Megan Cox an ESL teacher in San Francisco, CA and his sister, Glenda Ann Drennan of California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Joseph Cox and sister, Linda Susan (Suzie) Cox-Harlow.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Caruth Village Funeral Home, 4635 North Hwy 7, Hot Springs Village, AR 71909.

Inurnment will be in Placerville, CA in the spring.

Donations may be made to Our Promise at the Genesis Cancer Center in Hot Springs.

Mildred Regina Bittle
February 24, 1935 - February 25, 2013

Mildred Regina (Zientarski) (Bettencourt) Bittle, age 78, was ushered through the pearly gates of Heaven on February 25th, 2013 after her short fight with cancer but long battle as a dialysis patient.

She was at home, peacefully surrounded by her loving family and with the caring hands at Odyssey Hospice.

Born in Chicago, IL on February 24th, 1935 Mildred Zientarski was daughter of Frank & Helen Zientarski.

Her siblings Chester, Harry, Edward, Richard, Freddie, and Delores all preceded her in death.

She married early to Leroy Bettencourt.

This marriage produced 3 devoted and loving children; Leslie (Bettencourt) Turnage (Scott) of Hot Springs Village, AR, Michael Bettencourt of Hot Springs, AR, and Brian Bettencourt of Arlington Heights, IL.

Later, she married 'The Love of her Life' John C Bittle.

At that time she welcomed her stepson John (Patti) Bittle of Downers Grove, IL into the family.

In 1973 John and Mille left the big city life behind and moved to Hot Springs, loving the country life here.

Taking an early retirement she was really able to enjoy all that life had to offer.

Traveling, gardening, camping at the lake, going to the casino and hosting family gatherings brought her the most enjoyment.

Mille will forever be remembered as a compassionate, generous, classy, fun, strong willed woman by all of the many lives that she touched.

Her husband John preceded her in death just over a year ago.

In addition to her children & their spouses she leaves behind 6 doting grand children; Samantha (Turnage) & Trent Nuckolls of Hot Springs Village, AR, Elizabeth (Turnage) & Darby Rhodes of Hot Springs, AR, Emily Bettencourt of Arlington Heights, IL, Matt Bettencourt of Arlington Heights, IL, Jonathon (Michele) Bittle of Downers Grove, IL, Amy (Bittle) & Nick Buono of Plainfield, IL.

Also missing her are 5 great grand children as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Her faithful companion Stormy is missing her also.

The most important thing in life to Millie was her family, she sacrificed whatever was possible for the well being of her family.

The celebration of her life will be at 11:00 am, Monday, March 18th, 2013 at Caruth Village Funeral Home, 4365 North Hwy 7, Hot Springs Village, AR 71909.

In lieu of flowers a donation in Millie's name can be made to your Local Food Bank.

Jeffery Dwain Chavis
March 18, 1959 - February 20, 2013

Jeffery 'Jeff' Dwain Chavis, 53, of Hot Springs, went to be with his heavenly Father on February 20, 2013 when he lost a 20-month courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Pine Bluff to Myrtle Ann Godfrey Chavis and the late Van Dyke 'Sonny' Chavis, Jr.

Grandparents Gertrude and Dwain Godfrey of Dumas and Selma and Walter Van Dyke Chavis of Pine Bluff.

Jeff was a graduate of Pine Bluff High School, and he received his B.S. in Construction Management from the University of Arkansas.

Jeff married the love of his life, Amy Montgomery Chavis, on July 19, 1986.

As their love for one another grew, so did their family.

Jeff adored their three children, Jake, Justin and Jacy Ann Chavis.

Jeff loved spending time with his family and friends.

He was an active member of Lake Valley Community Church.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, listening to music, and digging in the dirt with his backhoe.

Jeff is survived by his wife and three children; mother, Myrtle Higgins and stepfather Charles Higgins; stepfather, Roy D. Smith and stepmother Betty Smith.

Other survivors include brothers, Walt Chavis and wife, Nicole of Hot Springs Village, Bruce Chavis and wife, Tauna of Bryant, and Barry Chavis; his mother-in-law, Sherry 'Nana' Montgomery of Hot Springs; and his father-in-law, Andy Montgomery of Millersville, Missouri; brother-in-law, Andrew Montgomery and wife, Michelle; uncles and aunts, Phil and Sandy Chavis and Jimmy and Gail Cobb; many nephews, nieces, cousins, and a multitude of friends.

He is preceded in death by his father Van Dyke 'Sonny' Chavis; his brother, Clay King Smith and his grandmother, Selma Chavis.

A memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Lake Valley Community Church.

On a beautiful day in the near future, Jeff’s family will scatter his ashes on Lake Ouachita.

For anyone wishing to honor Jeff’s love and devotion to his children, friends of the family have established The Chavis Children’s Fund at Summit Bank in Hot Springs.

Charles L. "Chuck" Cornish
April 17, 1938 - April 16, 2013

Charles L. 'Chuck' Cornish, 74, of Hot Springs Village passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2013.

He was born April 17, 1938 in Graham, Texas to the late Ronald and Louise Cornish.

Chuck retired from the U.S. Air Force and then began work for FedEx.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed deep sea fishing.

He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.

Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Marko Cornish of Hot Springs Village; son, Charles L. Cornish, Jr. and wife, Barbara of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Rhonda Crawford and husband, Marty of Blytheville, Arkansas; grandchildren, Jeffrey and Kristen Cornish of Dallas and Logan and Madison Crawford of Blytheville; aunts, Pauline Eden of Woodson, Texas and Jo Scott of Graham, Texas; and numerous cousins.

Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at Caruth Village Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Fort Sam Houston National cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to be made to the American Heart Association.

Lynn A. Miller
September 4, 1933 - April 16, 2013

Lynn A. Miller, 79, of Hot Springs Village passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2013.

She was born September 4, 1933 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Harold and Felicia Olson.

Lynn was a registered nurse and retired with over 35 years of service.

She had been a Village resident since 1995.

She was an avid golfer and was a member of the Lady Duffers.

She also enjoyed playing bunco. Lynn was very active at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and was a member of the Ladies Guild and was in the choir for many years.

Lynn was a Friend of Bill.

Lynn is predeceased by her parents and her husband of almost 55 years, Denison C. Miller.

Survivors include her three sons: Rob Miller and wife Anita of Columbus, Ohio, David Miller and wife Karen of Grand Blanc, MI and Tim Miller and wife Jane of Minneapolis, MN; ten grandchildren: Christian, Anna and husband Aaron, Brett, James and wife Courtney, Andrew and wife Jenn, Rachel, Samantha, Jack and Grace Miller and Jennifer Hawk; and great-grandchildren; Kaylee, Zoie, Riley and Alexander Miller and Lily and Ryah McAdams.

Memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Caruth Village Funeral Home.

Interment will be in Forest Home cemetery in Milwaukee later.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
