Jeanie Carter
August 9, 1931 - May 7, 2014

Jeanie Carter of Hot Springs, Arkansas passed away on May 7, 2014.

She was born Norma Jean Dolan August 9, 1931 in Crossett, Arkansas to Norman and Ocie Boykin Dolan.

Her formative years were spent in Crossett and Hamburg.

She then moved to Little Rock and later met her husband, Roger, there.

She was a long-time member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and served a number of years as bookkeeper and secretary to the Rector.

She taught poetry to the first and second grade students at St. Luke’s Day School and the Day School was very dear to her heart.

Jeanie was predeceased by her parents, a sister, Donna Dolan Gates, and her step-mother, Tessie Nash Dolan.

At the age of four, her mother died, and her maternal grandmother reared her and her infant brother, Jack, for many years.

At the age of 45, she took a Creative Writing class with Dr. Ken Cook at National Park Community College.

It was here that her passion and career as a poet began.

She was a member of Roundtable Poets of Hot Springs and the state and national Poetry organizations.

She was a volunteer for several local organizations and enjoyed helping others.

She was an avid reader and belonged to the Serendipity Book Club.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 49 years, Roger Frank Carter, two dearly loved step-children who became her own, Dawn Groover and her husband Joe; Roger Alan Carter and his wife Tammy; grandsons Justin and Peyton Carter, Riley and Will Groover, and a granddaughter, Jena McNeill, all the 'apple of her eye'; two brothers, Jack Dolan of Springfield, Illinois and Frank Dolan, his wife Martha; and a nephew, Barry Dolan, all of Crossett AR.

Her two best feline friends, Ezra and Eliot, gave her many years of affection and occasional poetic inspiration.

She had a good life, loved many people and liked a whole lot more.

Her life-long sorrow was that she couldn’t sing in tune.

She’s hoping that will change when she gets to her heavenly home.

Funeral services are at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Rector C. B. Baker officiating.

Memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Episcopal Day School Scholarship Fund.

Bobby K. Riley
December 20, 1993 - May 11, 2014

Bobby K. Riley, 20, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014.

He was born December 20, 1993 in Texarkana, Texas.

Bobby is survived by his parents, Bobby C. Riley and Janice K. (Sherman) Hamblin; one brother James D. Smith of Hot Springs, Arkansas; one sister Stacy M. Johnston of Plain Dealing, Louisiana; grandparents Bobby R. and Vicki C. Riley; one uncle, Kirk F. Riley all of Hot Springs and one aunt, Janice Taff of Memphis, Tennessee.

Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home.

Service will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday May 16, 2014 at Bread of Life Church, 2475 E. Grand, with Bro. Gary Lee Garrett officiating.

Burial will follow in Walnut Grove cemetery.

Pallbearers include Greg Laird, Jason Collins, Bo Garrett, Terry Donaldson, Dylin Abernathy and Charles Waltman.

Bobby loved the Lord with all of his heart, and his second love was working out daily at the YMCA.

His greatest hero was his dad.

Nyla Christians
July 27, 1924 - May 11, 2014

Nyla Christians was born July 27, 1924 near Everly, Iowa.

She attended school in that community and attended AIR in Des Moines, Iowa.

Later she became deputy clerk of Clay County, Iowa.

She married James Christians in 1953 at the 'Little Brown Church.'

They raised three sons, William, Robert and Bradley. William passed away in 1993.

Nyla leaves behind her husband, James; two sons, Bob and his wife Mary and Brad and his former wife, Carolyn; five grandchildren, Jennifer Hyde (Matt), Jared Christians (Hayden), Benjamin Christians, William Christians and Margaret Amy Christians; three great grandchildren, Whitley, Emily and Kate; brother, Curtis Runkle (Betty); and sister-in-law, Marcella Runkle.

She is predeceased by her parents, Clyde and Mae Runkle; brothers, Francis and Russel Runkle (Fay); and sister, Lorraine Sommers (James).

Nyla was active in the community and was a master flower show judge for many years.

She was past president of Village Pines Garden Club, Chapter CH of the PEO Sisterhood and Designing Women Study Group.

She was a member of Village United Methodist Church, The DAR and Questers.

Nyla served on the POA social committee for two terms and the resource development committee at Good Samaritans where memorials are welcome.

Thomas Ray Quarles
October 20, 1943 - July 16, 2014

Thomas Ray Quarles, 70, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014.

He was born October 20, 1943 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to the late Leonard and Elizabeth (Sorrells) Quarles.

Thomas was a Christian and a member of First Baptist Church in Camden, Arkansas.

He and Frances loved camping on area lakes and Tom was considered around the campsites as 'the camp chef'.

He also loved hunting and fishing and displayed a green thumb when it came to vegetable and flower gardening.

Tom served in the US Air Force for eight and one-half years and served his country proudly in Vietnam.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Carolyn Coniglio.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Frances Quarles and son Lance Quarles both of Hot Springs; daughter Sherri Nickolson (Nick) of West Virginia; brother Buddy Quarles (Jane) of Texas; sisters Ann Wade (Glen) of Hope, Liz Woodard (Raymond) of Waldo and Joyce Delk (Richard) of Magnolia and grandchildren Geoffrey and Katelynn Nicholson.

A graveside memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Morning Star cemetery with Brother Alton Dorey and wife officiating.

Robert John "Bob" Grady
August 23, 1929 - March 17, 2014

Robert John 'Bob' Grady, 84, died Monday, March 17, at Advance Care, Mercy Hospital, Hot Springs.

Born August 23, 1929 to Ralph John and Dorothy Mercedes Anderson Grady in Euclid, Ohio, he was an NROTC graduate of the University of Mississippi and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1956.

When he returned from duty in Korea he resigned his commission and began working for Hewitt-Robbins (Litton Industries) in Charleston, West Virginia.

Bob later worked for the company in Passaic, New Jersey; Sandusky, Ohio; and Hartford, Connecticut.

Following his departure from Litton Industries, he worked for American Air Filter for 20 years in Louisville, Kentucky, until his retirement to Arkansas.

Bob is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Margaret Blackwood Grady, son Robert E. Grady (Laura) of Lexington, Kentucky; daughter Patricia Calvin (David) of Fishers, Indiana; daughter Jacquelyn Grady of Ocala, Florida; son Timothy Grady (Linda) of Hurst, Texas; son John Grady (Laura) of League City, Texas; granddaughters Lindsay Dotzlaf (Nate) of Fishers, Katie Grady of League City, Kelli Howie (Dan) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Nikki English (Anthony) of Ocala, Sara Holmes (Jeff) of Fishers, Eileen Grady of Lexington, Dori Grady of Lexington, and Colleen Grady of League City, and grandson Sean Fitzpatrick of Ocala, and great grandchildren Charlotte and Harper Dotzlaf, Rowan Sanders, Aidan Grady, Jennsen English, Adella Holmes, and Rori Mara Howie.

He is also survived by his sister Colleen Grady Kyle of Concord, North Carolina.

A home owner in Hot Springs Village since 1980 and a resident since 1990, Bob was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, an avid golfer and country-western and swing dancer.

He and his wife have been active members of several dance clubs in the area.

His irreverent sense of humor will be missed by family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 199 Barcelona Road in the Village, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 22nd, Fr. Neil Kaminski and The Reverend Deacon Deborah Blackwood celebrating.

Arrangements are being made by Caruth Village Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Holy Trinity Memorial Fund, the Salvation Army summer camp or Toys for Tots programs.

Cecil Floyd Timbs
(September 18, 1947 - January 4, 2012)

Cecil Floyd Timbs, 64, of Royal, Arkansas, won his battle with cancer and went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 4, 2012.

He was born September 18, 1947 in Hot Springs, Arkansas to the late Alonzo & Lillian (Price) Timbs.

He was a member of Vista Heights Baptist Church.

Cecil was a loving, caring husband and father who enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, taking cruises, Dr. Peppers, cheese burgers, and weenie sandwiches, but most of all he loved to spend time with his family.

His children refer to him as 'Daddy Extraordinaire'.

He is preceded in death by three sisters, Juanita Bradford, Rachel Davis, and Shirley Dugan.

He is survived by his wife Marie (Frazier) Timbs; son Eddie Young; daughters Dana Harris and Tish and husband Todd Tucker, all of Royal; brothers Henry Timbs, Lonnie Timbs, and Harold Timbs all of Hot Springs; sisters Viola George and Janette Oliver, both of Hot Springs; grandchildren Brenden Rice, Baylee Rice, Cody Harris, Jarrod Young, Ryan Young, Scotty Young, Nathaniel Young, and Dylan Kimery; and 4 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a very special nephew, Keith Kimery and his wife Shannon.

Pallbearers are Mark Landrum, Tony Timbs, Kelly Timbs, Bobby Timbs, Steve Timbs, and Jeff Landrum.

Honorary Pallbearers are the K-Tech staff and the staff of St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital 4-West.

Visitation will be 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday.

Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Saturday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home Chapel with, his Father-in-Law, Rev. Henry Frazier officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Grove cemetery.

L. C. "Bob" Bodemann
(February 27, 1927 - January 1, 2012)

U.S. Veteran
Louis Charles Bodemann, Jr. known as Bob Bodemann died at home on Sunday, January 1, 2012.

Bob was born February 27, 1927 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Louis Charles Bodemann, Sr. and Nella Stolfa Bodemann.

He served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946.

He graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Petroleum Engineering.

He married Wanda Sanders of Tulsa Oklahoma in 1951.

Survivors are his wife of sixty years, three sons, Steve Bodemann and his wife Mitch, Mike Bodemann and his wife, Peggy, Don Bodemann and his wife, Kim, and one daughter, Diane Bodemann and her husband, Tom Cellers.

Surviving grandchildren include: Erin Bodemann McCarley, Keri Bodemann Forrester, Maggie Bodemann, Carolyn Bodemann Hall, Brian Bodemann, Julie Bodemann Goodwin, Scott Cellers, Jackson Cellers, Gretchen Cellers, Stephanie Cellers, Claire Bodemann, Marcus Bodemann and Isaac Bodemann; great grandchildren include Clara McCarley and Cate Hall.

Also surviving first cousin Kathleen Estes of Denver, Colorado.

Bob spent his early years in Oklahoma City.

After the service and college he worked for Tenneco Oil as a Petroleum Engineer in Houston, TX, Oklahoma City, OK, Denver, CO, Casper, WY, finally settling in Iola, Kansas, as an independent oil producer.

To be closer to their children and grandchildren, Bob and Wanda moved to Hot Springs Village in 1998, and finally to Hot Springs in 2001.

His interest included coaching his sons' baseball teams, playing softball and tennis, serving as a Boy Scout Leader and later singing in Barbershop Quartet.

He and his wife were involved in community theater in Iola, performing in numerous musical productions.

Bob loved life, he represented fairness, kindness and justice as those round him would attest.

Special thanks to Dr. Bill Sorrels, Dr. Fred Divers, Dr. Joe Howe, Dr. Stan Josef and all the helpful staff at each of their offices.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the ACE program, Lakeside High School, 2871 Malvern Avenue, HSAR 71901; Our Promise Cancer Resources, 133 Harmony Park Circle, HSAR 71913; Charitable Christian Clinic, 133 Arbor, HSAR.

Visitation is Thursday from 5-7 at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home.
